I was very naive when I bought a beta for my daughter several years ago. Everything I bought for it, including its tiny little plastic "tank", was marked as being specifically for betas so ofc I thought I was doing right by the little guy. I really didnt put much thought into it beyond that ...at first. But after we had him for a while, I started to realize just how sentient and intelligent they are. I was amazed to see such a big personality in a little fish. It was super endearing the way he would start to dance and jiggle whenever he saw me walk into the room. He lived a relatively long time for a beta I assume partly due to my diligent cleaning of his tank every couple of days even though I now understand how grossly inadequate it still must have been. It saddens me to think of him now that I know what I wish I had known back then. But even more than that, it really angers me that the very people who design products to house and care for these animals are systemically manufacturing torture chambers for them instead and marketing them as adequate and proper. Thanks for doing what you can to educate people about it!
I did my research and went to buy a 3 gallon tank. The lady in the store asks me "what fish is it for?" I told her it was for a betta and she immediatelly showed me a selection of those small "bettariums". I just turned around and said that it was too small. Also it is really unsettling that they will sell basically any animal to you without asking if you know how to care for it.
one bad store in your region with uneducated employees doesn’t mean they’re all that way. i work at a chain pet store and animal care is top priority. we actively refuse to sell fish and companion animals if we think for a second they won’t be given a home with proper care and stimulation.
Thank you for not completely bashing the stores themselves! I work at a big chain petstore and I myself even turn customers away from many of our products because they are not suitable for the fish.
No they don’t want that, I am a petsmart employee and I can tell you with 100% certainty that we don’t want any fish or animal to die. We always strongly encourage shoppers to get better things for their fish and give them tons of tips on how to keep fish. We also won’t sell fish if they are going in a small tank. I had a guy want to to but am angel and a shark in a 10 gallon and I flat out denied them. We care about our animals.
Fuzzy Yetti snails, growing out plants. I don’t agree with corporate selling them, but I can’t do anything about that. No one ever buys them, thank god. We are there to steer the customers away from that stuff. We help the animals by informing the customers of stuff they should be getting.
I used to have a betta when I was 6, and you guessed it, it was mistreated and stressed. Tiny bowl, dirty tank,... But recently I researched about them and realized how intelligent and personable they are. I learnt from my past mistakes. My new betta, Obi, is living in a 5 gallon, filter, and plants. I love him so much haha
I always buy the babies & the sick ones! I have had 19 so far. I nurse the sick ones back to health. The shortest life span I had was 3 years and the longest 5 1/2 years. They all have their own personality, I just love getting to know them💜
All those lil teeny-tiny "tanks" & bowls are good for is a home for a pet moss-ball. And that 1 gallon bowl kit, all I would keep in there is a couple of moss-balls & 1 snail. And if I really really really had to have a fish, then one of those fake silicone fish. Also, it's a MYTH that bettas like small spaces cuz they live in puddles. *face-palms* I can't tell you how many people have told me that & that it's true. *shakes my head* Also LOVE the color of your new car!! My family always throws a handful of change in a new car, so that you always have gas money & good luck with the car. Since I can't do that, I'm throwing some virtual coins in! :D
Bettas are only found in puddles during the dry season, when the water levels are low, but normally they fill up right away due to rain or humans filling it up. So the short answer is: STOP PUTTING BETTAS IN SMALL TANKS
Kira Bowie I have been doing betta research for a while now, so that when I get my betta I will be ready to take care of it. I wanted to get a filter for my tank and I told the guy that I had a 10 gallon tank, he was surprised when I told him that, and then he became concerned and tried selling me a one gallon tank because, “they live in small ponds” and “they love small spaces” which made me really angry because no fish deserves to be treated like that.
I heard bettas get nervous if they're in HUUUUUUGEEEEEE tanks because they feel like they can't hide or something? So just don't put them in like 55 gallons or something.
Sooo a couple of weeks ago I walked into pet smart because I wanted to get my nephews new kitten a collar. I walked past the beta fish and saw all the female bettas were basically dying and if not already dead. The male bettas were thriving though! Now you can probably blame it on how emotional i was feeling that day... or not ... I have NOOOO idea what compelled me to do this but... I bout them. ALL. All 8 females that were alive. I quarantined them for about a week and added them to a 20 gallon tank. They seem to be doing extremely well but I care for them so much now I don’t want to mess this up! When I tell you this video is coming in STRONG for me lol you have no clue. Thank you for posting this. Looking forward to the second part on what to buy for my tank. Officially subscribed!
Thank you for this video. I'm attempting to foster a sick betta back to health, after he was underfed and left untreated in a pet store. He has fin rot, a fungal infection, and a mild case of Popeye. I'm very new to betta fish and got him so he could get some actual treatment. I accidentally bought the wrong food (the flake food you showed in the video), and almost bought the wrong tank decor. We need more cautionary videos like this.
I only have 5 gallons I feel so bad for my betta but my mom thinks it’s too expensive :C at least it’s better than a 1 gallon tank and soon I am also gonna buy actual plants for the tank soon, because the plastic plants aren’t good for the betta fish. For some reason my betta only likes the plants that hurt him though
My aunt is getting a betta next month. We went to the pet store today, and bought a 6.6 gallon tank with some tap water drops. We’re also getting live plants and dirt for the flooring. So even though I don’t know much about fish, we’re doing everything right.
2:52 I feel so called out, lol. My grandmother bought this for her betta, and once I took over care, I moved him to a 2.5 gallon tank. That one became the 'hospital' or 'I'm cleaning your real one, hang out in here for a while' tank.
2:38 my friend’s sister has two of those “tanks” for her two bettas (she get them for Christmas from her parents) and they literally filled the “tanks” HALFWAY WITH GRAVEL. So the bettas have barely two inches (tall) of water to swim in. I have no idea how they’re still alive after 6 months of living in that cramped space. I’m not blaming my friend or her sister, I’m blaming her parents. They should have done their research before buying that. Not to say I don’t make mistakes with my own betta. I recently placed a rock with an anubias super glued to the top of it. I wasn’t really thinking about how the rock was dangerous for my betta since it has sharp edges. She now has three scrapes from the rock. I removed the rock from the tank. I’m currently treating her wounds with aquarium salt and I’ll start adding bettafix once I’m sure the wounds aren’t infected. Also, does anyone know if bettafix is safe for nerite snails? I have a nerite snail in my betta’s tank and I’m not sure if it’s safe...
hmm i am not sure, but if you're worried about your snail, maybe quarantine the snail while you use the bettafix and then wait for the bettafix to cycle out
I had a betta fish and now I know that everything I was doing was so wrong I had those tanks that you showed that bad and the toys I got were so sharp and the rocks were colored I had the purple and blue rocks that you showed
@@ashlynnthompson1282 well, it depends on how large it is, and you'll only be able to have 1 betta max, preferably no other fish mates. But personally, I'd say 2.5 as a bare minimum
That pink castle you picked up caused major ammonia issues in my tank. I removed it at the suggestion of another fish keeper and within two days the ammonia was gone.
Wait… what??? My pH levels keep showing up as too high. I don’t have that pink castle, but I do have this little blue ball thing that they can swim through. I wonder if that’s what’s causing a rise in PH level?
When my boyfriend was like 7, his parents bought him one of those split tanks and two Male bettas. One jumped into the other side because it must've been stressed and poorly taken care of and they killed each other when in the same side. It's so sad the way bettas are treated 😥 everyone I've ever known has had them in a vase.
Thanks for this! Reminds me of the video I made about betta fish. People are so misinformed when it comes to betta care. Oh I bought that tank the long half gallon you should for my betta it’s used as a hospital tank and you actually can plug in a heater. I put the small mini heater in there since it’s a temporary hospital tank it works great! Great for hospital uses only! And between tank cleanings. Though it’s sad someone would buy that and think it’s ok. Hate seeing stuff like that marketed saying it’s great for you fish.
After watching this I had a panic attack and ran to my Betta tank to fix all the wrongs. Here I was at 11:30pm (23:30) screaming because I couldn’t get rid of the pointy sides of my Betta’s hide, and ended up knocking in the pointy ends with a random rock I had, and filing down the remaining edges 😬
Thank you so much exactly a year ago today I rescued my betta from almost dying he had no color left and now he’s a beautiful blue betta! Edit: “rescued”
What did you use to heal your betta ? My male betta I think over ate. He still looks good as far as fins, body etc. But he’s starting to sit in the corner of the tank. I have a feeling he’s starting to get sick and I want him to survive. Thx
Aca Lover hey!! So to see if they over ate they stomach should be a little bloated and if they did overeat fast them for 3 Days (so don’t feed them) it won’t hurt them. If that doesn’t work get some peas search up on yt how to prepare peas for bettas and feed your betta it if it’s still sick do a salt bath. Hope this helps!!
Mary Fernandez ThankYou Mary. I will try that. He still swims but seems his balance is off. No fin rot, no scales protruding. He wants to eat all the time..some people tell me to feed once a day, others tell me 2x a day. He is in a tank with platys. I only feed a bit in the morning and a little bit at night..Can platys go without food for 3 days as well? Thanks so much
I live in Ireland so coming across bettas are pretty rare, at least to my knowledge. I can't believe they keep them in little containers on the shelves :(( brilliant video btw!! This is super informative
Flaring is good for your betta. You wouldn't want to have that mirror in the tank full time. Allowing them to flare for a minute or so a day is beneficial, think of it as stretching.
Yes, however like you said having it in your tank full time isn't good. There are also other times and ways your betta will flare where having the mirror isn't really necessary :)
Your walmart has such a better fish/pet selection than mine here in NC. Wish we had that much of a fish/tank/supply aisle. The other store is laid out exactly like ours here though lol. Thanks for the tips&great video👍
It really is sad that the pet stores really don't have the right things for small pets it's been an upheaval lately for the rabbit community over it as well thank you!
I used to work at a chain pet store and thankfully, most people looked at bigger tanks for bettas or myself and other employees were able to steer them away from anything less than a 2.5. Our 3.5 was on sale a lot so it was cheaper than all the other “fancy” mini tanks
I was babysitting and they had their beta fish in a mason jar. Literally bought a tank with the kids and the parents were like wow I didn’t know they swam like that! Like 😩😩😩
I just came across your video today and I think you're freaking awesome. I've been keeping fish for 30 years (I'm 42 and started at 12) and I agree with everything you said. We keep mostly Flowerhorns now, which are just giant Bettas personality wise. They're our water puppies just like well cared for Bettas. If I had one piece of advise for people who don't want to follow your advise, short fin Bettas can handle the artificial decor (and live longer in general) than their long finned "pretty" counterparts. Unfortunately, they still need at least a 5 gallon with a heater and filter to do that. Bettas don't live in tiny puddles in the wild. They live in massive rice fields. I'm proud to see the next generations of fishkeepers are doing such a great job of being ambassadors to the hobby.
Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I am going to get my first Betta this week and I need to take out some of the decorations. But luckily I do have some live plants. I am so excited about my new fish. Thank you again!
I bought my adult son a beta. I got his a 5 to 10 gallon tank. We got him things to rest on and silk pants some real ones also. The heater came with the take. He's been living 2yrs now. Floating logs are good also.
I’m a huge animal person and have had at least 15 beta fish in the past. I agree with most of these things but I will say the minimum for a beta fish is a 5 gallon tank. One of mine is in a 10 gallon and the other two females are in a 30 gallon tank (along with around 15 rummy noses)
Am I the only one who gets relaxed watching betta fish videos??? I have 2 betta fish I love them and I got them last year! I've heard a lot of the shared divider betta tanks are awful because the fish can sense the hormones of the other fish and then can also get past the divider if its not secure !! This is a great and helpful informational video thank you!
I got my betta fish (twin half moon tail thing) from petsmart like 2 days ago, and I've been comforting him for a while now, he's now learned and doesn't flare up at his reflection. he's a pretty snazzy one. and for the tank it's a 20gal topfin starter kit with a heater and a filter which the fish ultimately loves. at first it was hard to get him to eat, but after some hours if I chop up the already tiny flake, he will infact eat :) I change the water partially every 3 days and sunday's (today) is when I change 25%-30% of the water and left the water conditioner in- he's happy, colors are vibrant and confident :)
Thank you thank you. I think you probably saved my fish. I've had this made up for 3 months and he just was getting so sick and I thought he was a goner. I bought a filter that about an air stone then I bought a heater and and I bought a snail. I bought a sucker fish. I kept taking out of the big tank putting them into his little tank I bought medicine I bought treatment for the water. He would seem to do better in the little tank I put them back in the Big tank. But when I think it was is you mentioned in your video about stones that had paint on them!!! As I was getting ready to put him back into the large tank again I was cleaning it and I started to look at the glass stones and realize that some were faded meaning that paint was coming off I guess as I was cleaning the tank they would bang on each other maybe and break off the paint. I had two different kinds of glass stones but I think they both had a coating on them so I took everything out. And the next day for the first time he got to the top he swam around and he had a good lunch!!!! 😊 Thank you
I truly appreciate all the folks that take the time to make these videos cuz this is my first time as an adult trying to take care of betta fish and really if later on down that line fish in general. I don’t think I’m doing a 100% perfect job but I think Im doing ok. I want to try to get both my betta to 5 yrs... they both have their own 5 gallon tank cuz of videos like this. Maybe if I move Ill get them both 10 gallons.
I had a betta fish named shoji I bought him because I thought he was sad and I would make him “happier” I put him in the bowl that was longer than it was long and no filter heater or plants all he had was one hide out which was plastic. And of course I fed him the pellets from Walmart he lived for over a few months but anyway of course I regret it but now I’m getting a new one to show shoji that I learned from him and I won’t let another one go through the same thing as him 👍🏼
I don’t go to gymnastics anymore because of this: one gallon, split into 4 puzzle pieces only giving each beta 1/4 of a gallon and they were sitting at the bottom doing nothing and no fliter as well
The pink tank with the divider that you showed I actually had that for two male beta fish in there and they both passed away in the air because it was so bad one of my beta fish ended up dying two weeks after I got them because of stress
Thanks. I just got a beta a few months ago and bought silk plant that was very smooth but it did have a couple sharp bits on the plastic down the center I didn’t notice as the vine and our beta fins are a bit beat up. We bought plants but they all died. I CANNOT find any tank decorations to use. All of them had some kind of sharp spot. Can you do a video on what’s SAFE to buy. Out Berta is in a 10 gallon tank with two snails which is great. Our Betta only attacked the snails once. Thanks again
Thank you for making this video! I just went into my garage and I was about to put a new future beta into a small fish bowl then I found my old 10 gallon tank and then I watched this video! I'm now cycling that tank for the new beta. I always buy only beta so I can save them from bad environments like those little cups they put it in. I do have a question if you could respond. I was wondering that if I bought a female beta if I could put other fish in it?
I did a little bit of research before buying my brother a betta plant and thank god I did. I kept seeing 10 gallon tanks were recommended, but I went with a 5 due to space in my house. Also, I naturally got live plants because I hate plastic, and I’m thankful I did. The betta we got was about to die until we got it and it’s more colorful and healthy.
Good video. The tiny betta tanks are the worst. I have a betta. Have only had him for a month. He is a Delta Dumbo ear betta. I researched the best tanks and products for a month before deciding to get one. I did buy a 5 gallon tank. I have two live plants and two silk plants in it. I also have the floating log and silk leaf hammock for him. He looked pink in the little cup at the store. Once he was acclimated to the new tank water I placed him in his new home. He hid at first, then explored. He actually is red! The heater keeps the water temperature at 78°. I think the correct water temperature and more room really helped. I also added a nano sponge filter with an airstone inside. He gets an excellent pellet diet most days. He also gets brine shrimp and dried blood worms for treats. He Loves his tank!
This is why I want to work at a pet store. I’ll be able to educate people and make money knowing that I sent the animal (s) to a good home where they would thrive💗
I've trialed over 10 different kinds of betta pellets. Aside from live food, the second best is atkinsons betta pellets. I woudlnt use anything else. They re the perfect size for betta mouths and don't increase in size much after soaking. Tasty too
I love the face mask. Great video! I don’t have a betta yet but this video helped me understand them better. I have 2- 75 gallon cichlid tanks and a 40 gallon eel tank!
1. Aquarium 5 gallons or more. 2. Filter right size for Aquarium (has on the packages easy) and box of filter replacement pads 3. Heater (same as filter for size of your Aquarium) 4. Use natural Gravel (not colored rocks pink, black, blue etc) 5. Rock has good hiding places make sure entry ways not sharp or cut your betta. 6. Use live or plastic plants for more hiding places. Get a betta hammock (looks like a leaf betta love resting on them) 7. Food ( feed size of its eye 2-3 pellets betta food micro sized pellets and blood worms) 8. If have a betta (male or female) in a 10 gallon or more he/she can have some other fish tank mates: Cory, neon tetras, black neon tetras (not be confused with other black skirt tetras (aggressive)). * When choosing a betta better get one doesn't have long fins and tails because they can only be in a tank alone since the long tails make it harder to move. Not sure why but that's what I noticed when gotten Bettas before.
I have a 3 gal tank with a betta named Hudine. He’s as happy as can be, because my tank has all live plants, a floating log, a smooth (I checked the inside) rock hide, a very gentle filter, and a Indian almond leaf that is very healing to fins if they ever do get damaged. I know his tank is small, but I keep up with cleanings and taking great care of him. I do research of literally EVERYTHING. He now feels much happier, out of his cramped, little cup he was in in the beginning.
What to buy: 3 gallons at the VERY least, 5 to 10 gallons is the best. Get a filter, make sure the flow isn't too strong. Get a natural substrate, stay away from puke colored gravel. Buy real plants! Do some research and find out what is easy to grow in the substrate you select. Make sure the light isn't blasting on them 24/7 but enough to grow the plants. Love♥️
The pet store I went to told me to keep my betta in the same cup it was displayed in. I cant believe the words he told me, I just left and bought a bought new 50 liter tank , since iam planning to bring a female betta with some plants. I saved up few months ago just for buying these. Later I discovered my betta had ich and the other two 50 liter tanks got ich too. They are under treatment, but I really cant imagine how poorly they were treated before. No betta fish deserves this treatment.
If you live by a river, lake, or ocean like I do you can always go out, get some driftwood. AND BOIL IT! Make sure you boil it it’s super important don’t get any bad bacteria in your tank!
Hey, I’m new to fish keeping and I’ve been binge watching your videos. I was just wondering how you can get fish and instantly put them in a new tank (after acclimating) don’t you have to cycle the water for about a month?
my friend has a beautiful fish thats in this little tiny bowl, shes had it for i think over 3 years and literally forgot it existed but when i spend hundreds of dollars mine dies in a week :(
This is great love!!!! I am a Betta fan and I had some trouble with the last one :( I think it was definitely our water. THIS worst product of this video to me and is also barbaric HATE TWINSIE TANK! what the heck? People are crazy for fighting! The fish would be tryng to kill each other 24-7 at the divider, how stressful for the Betta!
All these sharp rough painted decorations and plants would be bad for any type of fish actually...like goldfish would rip their tails & fins on all this junk too. This stuff is cheap and people buy it because its colorful. So glad you made this video.
To be honest, I have my betta in a 1.5 gal bowl while I’m living at school ^^’ I’m moving out in about 2 months, and plan on hopefully getting a 5-10 gal planted with heater and filter and everything else to spoil him. It’s gonna be such a sweet moment giving him his new tank ^^ I do upkeep the bowl though, so he does good.
At first I thought 1 gallon was okay for a betta. So I did my research before getting a betta fish and I got a 5 gallon tank with a filter and with gravel and got the plastic plants but they were super super soft. And I got him (TieDye) his own little pirate ship! He loves his tank and sometimes he will rest on his ship! 😊 btw not hate this video helped a lot!!!
Thank you so much for educating people! Bettas are one of the most neglected animals imo, even over here in Germany. And personally, I think a nice 10-Gallon tank with beautiful life plants and such a majestic fish looks much better than a plastic bowl with a sad, dull and stressed Betta. So not only does your Betta highly benefit from it, you do too! They will look more vibrant, be higly active and most of the time even really interactive with you, live longer and you will have your own little piece of fantastic looking nature at home! I'm just surprised that they seem to be more expensive in american pet stores. Which is good, it will discourage impulse buying.
This is super helpful I’m just getting into fish keeping and starting out with betas so seeing this is super useful and interesting thxs for the vid! Can wait to see what can be use in a beta tank
Thank you for sharing. I am getting my tank ready for a betta and I just bought a wicked cool decoration but a lot of sharp edges. That's going back for sure. Thanks for the info
I know exactly where you were in the second store because everything you touched, I touched and put down. I have 6 Bettas and I don’t do plastic plants in any of their tanks because even with the awesome filtration mine have those plants get nasty. People just think Bettas are easy peasy but they really aren’t just a fish.
Hi, just came across your channel as I'm researching before getting a betta fish..very good information, I'm looking forward to watching the other videos about betta care....by the way loving your car...I have a Hyundai kona 1.6t 4x4 in the UK....keep up the good work!👍
It always baffles me who designs these tiny tanks. Betas may like more enclosed spaces but not have ZERO option to actually swim! I have a 10 gallon tank just getting set up and until its 100% done I won't be adding the betta. This will be my first one so I've spent months researching everything. Thats the main thing, research!
Omg the last plant you said that are like knifes... Mine goes in that exact plant all the time! I thought he had fun rot but maybe it's from that stupid plant!!
I like this Chanel because all of my Bettas died so soon I wanted another one so I started to research about them through this channel and I know lotta rly everything about bettas now thank you
I’ve been thinking of putting my beta fish in my 37 gallon front Bowtank with my pleco and some tetras should I do it or if I do do it what do you recommend that I should do to avoid aggression problems
It's nice to see people online try their best to educate potential betta/fish owners on proper husbandry, but as someone who works at a pet store, most people just don't even seem to care. :') I've been able to point a few people in the right direction a few times, teaching them about cycling and the recommended tank size, but then I get yelled at by management for failing to make a sale. The system is rigged against fish I swear. False marketing has led to a naive, ill advised consumer market and the bettas are the ones that suffer because of it.
POSTING THE “What Items TO BUY” VERY SOON!! I didn’t expect the like goal to be reached so quickly 😓 THANK YOU!
Thank you now I’m gonna get new food for my bettas and a new one! + Live plants Because you recommend them.
Plz do it! I bought everything that are betta friendly!
You should buy African dwarf frogs !! They can go in a betta tank ! I have then I think you would like them.
Omg thats the exact place ik it im sure about this
Was it PETSCMO?
I was very naive when I bought a beta for my daughter several years ago. you're a good person :)
It’s good that you kept him happy that’s all that really matters 🤗
It is funny what you said about their personality though, because whenever I look at her it seems like she is glaring back😂
How long did he live? Bettas live about 5 years
I had my beta till he passed away. He lasted me a good 3 years I believe
I did my research and went to buy a 3 gallon tank. The lady in the store asks me "what fish is it for?" I told her it was for a betta and she immediatelly showed me a selection of those small "bettariums". I just turned around and said that it was too small.

Even 3 gallons is too small, absolute minimum is 5 gallons
20 gallon will be best
Eh, I bought the 2.5 gallon for my betta. It’s better than the little plastic bowl it came in. It would have died in it anyway.
Thank you for not completely bashing the stores themselves! I work at a big chain petstore and I myself even turn customers away from many of our products because they are not suitable for the fish.
a Wal-Mart in NY stopped selling fish completly because of abuse
Over here in Canada I have never once saw fish in my Walmarts and I lived in different cities
i’m pretty sure they stopped selling in all of us! peta sued them i think :)
Same in Tennessee
I remember my Walmart did take good care of them like a beta in a single tank yeah it was 2.5 some say it’s small but it’s a lot bigger then cups
OMG NEVER NEW WHAT THATS CRAZY
They want the fish to die so the customer will come back to buy another one.
Fuzzy Yetti on no I’m getting a beta though
how do you know
No they don’t want that, I am a petsmart employee and I can tell you with 100% certainty that we don’t want any fish or animal to die. @@Jaspberries815 I'm not talking about the employees. What's the point of stocking those tiny 0.5 gallon or 1 gallon containers.

I always buy the babies & the sick ones! I have had 19 so far. I nurse the sick ones back to health. The shortest life span I had was 3 years and the longest 5 1/2 years.
They all have their own personality, I just love getting to know them💜
Miracle work thank you I feel bad for leaving the sick ones on the shelf😢
I can’t stand to leave a sick one I bought my Betta because he looked miserable so I just don’t go in fish stores or ima have like 5 10 gallon tanks.
*shakes my head*
Also LOVE the color of your new car!! My family always throws a handful of change in a new car, so that you always have gas money & good luck with the car. Since I can't do that, I'm throwing some virtual coins in! :D
They do love small spaces though, but those small spaces in nature are like 5+ gal which is why you should keep them in 5+ gal

Please go check out Fish For Thought
Alli Lanini I’ve actually been OBSESSED with that channel lately haha it’s been like my fish bible. Thanks!
I’m here with my betta in a heavily live planted 10gallon lol
SAME THOUGH AND I HAVE 2
I only have 5 gallons I feel so bad for my betta but my mom thinks it’s too expensive :C at least it’s better than a 1 gallon tank and soon I am also gonna buy actual plants for the tank soon, because the plastic plants aren’t good for the betta fish. For some reason my betta only likes the plants that hurt him though
@@aprillee7027 5 gallons is probably the best size for a betta.
My aunt is getting a betta next month. We went to the pet store today, and bought a 6.6 gallon tank with some tap water drops. We’re also getting live plants and dirt for the flooring. So even though I don’t know much about fish, we’re doing everything right.
@@aiaproductions9319 make sure u cap the dirt with a thick layer of sand so it doesn't make a mess
I have a nerite snail in my betta’s tank and I’m not sure if it’s safe...
hmm i am not sure, but if you're worried about your snail, maybe quarantine the snail while you use the bettafix and then wait for the bettafix to cycle out
Actually, the gravel might be what is keeping them alive. Place for nitrifying bacteria to grow. Unless they are sterilizing it, idk.
I heard Bettafix was actually bad because it contains tea tree oil
I had a betta fish and now I know that everything I was doing was so wrong I had those tanks that you showed that bad and the toys I got were so sharp and the rocks were colored I had the purple and blue rocks that you showed
Its so sad that people abuse betta fish good job on educating people about them!
MobileGamingGod i think it is abuse. the fish gets visibly sad scared and lazy
@Luke Skywalker99 I think 1.5 gal is okay as the minimum tbh
@@ashlynnthompson1282 well, it depends on how large it is, and you'll only be able to have 1 betta max, preferably no other fish mates. But personally, I'd say 2.5 as a bare minimum
@@hokipokithecactus9101 I did some research I thought 1.5 was good but I decided it’s not and I’m getting him a 5gal
@@ashlynnthompson1282 thank you, 5 gallons is probably the best size. I want to get my betta a 4 gallon minimum tank.

Good
After watching this I had a panic attack and ran to my Betta tank to fix all the wrongs.
Omg thank u for saving that betta life😊
What did you use to heal your betta ? My male betta I think over ate. He still looks good as far as fins, body etc. But he’s starting to sit in the corner of the tank. I have a feeling he’s starting to get sick and I want him to survive. Thx
Aca Lover Is there a filter if so it might be too strong
Thanks so much
Not a beginner fish keeper, watched this just for entertainment, gotta say it made me smile seeing you go out of your way to educate people :) liked!
Planet Fishness what happens if the tank shows reflections?? The tank my sister has doesn’t have a mirror but it does show reflections
It says o ly a bit at a time ⏲️
You can flare your betta by using a mirror 30sec a day.

Like 😩😩😩
i- couldn’t they have just had a bigger bowl that’s so sad
Thank you so much for doing that. It makes me want to cry seeing so many in tiny little tanks not fit for shrimp, much less a betta.

This video is so good for new beta owners!! Great video, Kayla!

Omg u need to show me what type of plants are good!! My betta and I are bored of the plain tank 😂
If you don't want to deal with live, go to a pet store and feel the silk aquarium plants. Some of those should work.
And some little hid thangs my betta loves them

I’m getting my beta fish tmrw! I’m so happy, and thank you so much for making this video, because this helped me know, what not to buy! Thanks!!
I've heard a lot of the shared divider betta tanks are awful because the fish can sense the hormones of the other fish and then can also get past the divider if its not secure
!! This is a great and helpful informational video thank you!
Congrats on your engagement! I also love your betta videos
Thank you! More betta videos coming soon 😊
Yay!!!! Thx sooo much for responding btw!
I haven’t watched you in 3 years...all the memories are coming back 😌
U sure? This comment was made in 2020 and she joined in 2018 that would be 2 years Lmao stop the cap
😊 Thank you

And of course I fed him the pellets from Walmart he lived for over a few months but anyway of course I regret it but now I’m getting a new one to show shoji that I learned from him and I won’t let another one go through the same thing as him 👍🏼

Ohhhh my gosh. I watched you during covid, I think, on my school youtube account. AND YOU WERE RECCOMMENDED ME HERE I NEVER REMEMBERED YOUR NAME
Wow I still remember when I subscribed you only had 407 subscribers and now you have 49k wow good job
Most likely yes, just watch her temperament tho! All fish are different
“Twinsies betta tank” lmfaoooo
Some people may use the twin tank to breed / accoustom two fish together. It is not meant to be a permanent tank.
That tetra tank in walmart, the 1.5, thats what I have curently for my betta. I am saving up money for a ten gallon set-up.
1. Aquarium 5 gallons or more.
2. Filter right size for Aquarium (has on the packages easy) and box of filter replacement pads
3. Heater (same as filter for size of your Aquarium)
4. Use natural Gravel (not colored rocks pink, black, blue etc)
5. Rock has good hiding places make sure entry ways not sharp or cut your betta.
6. Use live or plastic plants for more hiding places. Get a betta hammock (looks like a leaf betta love resting on them)
7. Food ( feed size of its eye 2-3 pellets betta food micro sized pellets and blood worms)
Just make sure you know what type of wood you’re getting because it can make the water toxic
this vid is so useful♥️♥️ good to see awareness being raised to the proper care bettas need
Hey, I’m new to fish keeping and I’ve been binge watching your videos. I was just wondering how you can get fish and instantly put them in a new tank (after acclimating) don’t you have to cycle the water for about a month?

I feel the worst thing you could get for your bettas is probably something like the waterfall 3 betta system thing.
Your right all those terrible plants. I have decided to just keep it in the plastic cup.

All these sharp rough painted decorations and plants would be bad for any type of fish actually...like goldfish would rip their tails & fins on all this junk too. This stuff is cheap and people buy it because its colorful. So glad you made this video.
I didn’t get notified for this video! :(
Aw that sucks. UA-cam sometimes does that unfortunately :/
I wasn’t listening properly and I heard “Better video” but in actuality it’s “Betta video” 😂
This is super helpful I’m just getting into fish keeping and starting out with betas so seeing this is super useful and interesting thxs for the vid! Can wait to see what can be use in a beta tank

I know exactly where you were in the second store because everything you touched, I touched and put down.
Yeah feel it and see because sometimes bettas look like they have an infection or something but it’s really just damage from decorations unfortunately
I like this Chanel because all of my Bettas died so soon I wanted another one so I started to research about them through this channel and I know lotta rly everything about bettas now thank you
I had two fish who hated each other so we separated them
I’ve been thinking of putting my beta fish in my 37 gallon front Bowtank with my pleco and some tetras should I do it or if I do do it what do you recommend that I should do to avoid aggression problems
And don’t worry about the common pleco this is only a temporary grow out in the future I will definitely upgrade them to a 75 gallon
OMG WAIT..... FIANCE?! OMG CONGRATS!!!!
Thank you!! :)
