My betta passed away today, and I found out he had fin rot. I am really sad because it turns out he cut himself on his favorite decoration and then it got infected. I'm trying to do extra research before even thinking about getting another fish.
I am a first time betta owner and I did MEGA research before I even agreed to buy one. I slowly built up to a 30 gal from a 3 gal. I use live plants only for the safety of my fish and the added benefits the plants give the water quality. My betta (Maui) now lives with a community of 5 white cloud minows, 2 guppies, and a slew of amano shrimp (they mated lol). Maui initially would get a little aggressive with the white clouds but they would school and retaliate until ultimately he decided to just leave them alone. My tank has been successful for 3 months now!
Glitched_ Revolver plants are incredibly easy to take care of to be honest. Amazon swords, java fern, and moss balls are easy and some of my favorites.
Well, the first thing you need to know is that this video is wrong about needing an air stone. Bettas, like gouramis and paradise fish are labyrinth fish. They take gulps of air from the surface and absorb it through a special organ called a labyrinth membrane. This is why bettas can survive easily in tiny, rice field puddles with extremely low oxygen levels in the wild. All you need is either a HOB filter, or just do 25% water changes 3 - 4 times a week. If you have a HOB filter already, it's probably better to use that, because even though air pump and sponge filters are cheaper, the bubbles might agitate the surface too much and disturb the betta. They are more delicate than gouramis.
i had bettas in a bowl growing up (not saying it was good, i use a 3.5 gallon now) and yes they weren't very happy but they didn't die because of that.
Here's a special note that not enough people mention about 7+ gallons tanks: make sure that the tank is LONGER than it is tall. Bettas thrive in shallow water and thier swimming patterns reflect that. A tall 10 gallon is not going to provide them with as much easily reachable space as a long 10 gallon tank. Another thing to remember is that bettas must be able to reach the surface of the water so they can breathe properly. An oxygen source in the water does NOT replace thier need for air, as they have a labyrinth organ which breathes from the air and not the water. Bettas need to be able to use both thier gills and thier labyrinth organ.
PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH!! me and my mom went to pets smart to get food for my bearded dragon and ended up buying a beta fish. We didn’t make ANY research at all. We ended up knowing that it takes a lot of responsibility’s for that little fish . But now my beta fish is happy in her tank with her plants and hiding spots:)
Omg this was me exactly. I went to grab food for my bearded dragon and saw the cutest betta and i felt like he should be mine so im gunna pick him up tomorrow. However my fams had them and i been researching all day to do it correctly for when i pick him up tomorrow
At first I thought you were going to point out why an air stone is unnecessary for a betta, but then you went on about bearded dragons. So, I'll just expand on your first sentence with some more relevant info. As I said, you don't need an air pump/stone for a betta splendens. They don't use gills as adults. They have a labyrinth membrane and gulp air periodically from the water's surface.
Thank you very much for these tips, which were very helpful. If I may add something that should be done, it would be to use live plants rather than artificial ones. Not only are they less prone to injure your Betta while also offering protection, but they help create something of a biosphere for your tank. Live plants, including moss balls, absorb many of the waste products emitted by your fish, produce oxygen, promote the slime coat protecting your fish, and provide other nutrients for the tank. They also reduce the need for water changes, promote healthy bacterial growth, and just make the fish feel safer. After seeing the immense benefits of having live plants versus artificial ones, it's inconceivable to ever go back. Well done and keep up the good work!
Before my friend moved to Canada, she had a Betta and kept it in an empty peanut butter jar... how do I know??? She told me. I got really mad and named a lot of stuff she did wrong
Anni fish Gallery !! Her parents won’t let her eat any more pets and idk why but she wouldn’t listen to me no matter how many times I would tell her... thanks though
I’m pretty sure that correct. Bettas are Asian fish and therefore likely have a more Asian pronunciation to their name. It would sound mostly like Bae-tah, with almost a pause between the two syllables.
My Paradise Betta is in his 40 gallon breeder tank, cycled, planted, with some Danios, shrimp and a few Corys. He's the freaking King of his Castle. Makes me sick and sad to see how these gorgeous fish are treated, like they're not even living creatures.
I've never heard of a paradise betta. A paradise gourami, yes, but not a betta. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I do wonder if you're getting it mixed up. It's easy to do, considering both bettas and gouramis are labyrinth breathers.
So when I was young, I always had 2 bettas and each of them would have a 2 gallon, I named some: Freddy, lucky, Leo, rainbow, etc. now when I got my most recent bettas, Blue and Scout and some neon tetras, I had a 10 gallon starting up. I kept Blue, my first betta of the two in the 2 gallon while the 10 was starting. I put Blue in the 10 gallon and got another 10 for a future betta, which was Scout. now I am planning on a 50 gallon for schooling fish. :) oh and I have these cool shells washed out nice and a fish school building with a plant (not sharp but it looks like it is), and now I have a happy betta family! :D feel free to check out the accounts I made for my bettas
I'd be careful about using real shells in a tank - they do break down over time and can add too many minerals into the water causing it to become "hard water"... unless you're going to be keeping fish which do best in hard water, or you really need to add more minerals to the water for some reason (such as if your water is too soft and lacking minerals), otherwise that might not be the best decor idea.
I'm not sure about how well I'm taking care of my betta and I'm trying to find out how I can make stuff better for him. This helped me figure out some stuff I had missed, thank you!!
Love your energy! You’re so chill and make your videos easy to understand. Oh and thanks for just jumping right into it. I hate waiting 10 min to hear what I came for. You da bomb guuuurl!
You can also take a spring water bottle (20oz) and cut it in a way that you can attach it to the filter to catch and slow the flow of water back into the tank. Works great!
My Betta lives in a 5 gallon. I only clean/change the water once a month. He has a heater, and a sponge filter with an airstone in it. It's a planted tank. Monet loves his silk leaf hammock. He also enjoys swimming through his floating log. Sometimes, he rests in his log.
@JELLYtoad i'd say that 5 gallons is fine. 10 is ideal but 5 is just alright for a betta :) i used to have a betta in a 5 gal before i upgraded to 10. i think if they're a first-time owner then 5 gallons is best to start with.
Thanks this is very helpful I bought a betta last week and I’ve been watching u for 2 yrs now and until last week I decided to buy a betta tysm for the advice!
I have 3 female Bettas living together with 6 neon tetras and 4 leopard Cory's and my tank couldn't be more chilled out. Occasionally they will stay away from each other or one will hide but most of the time they swim together. I'm also upgrading to a larger tank and going to do a fully planted tank to get those benefits from that (I have 55l now and upgrading to 75l)
I have 3 Bettas that have lived nearly 3 years. I bought all from Petco. I made many of the mistakes listed here. However I corrected my Betta practice by putting them into an aquarium with heat a small bubbler. In a 10 gallon tank I did this one year ago. I am about to buy another Betta soon and am glad I watched this video.
Great vid! Only thing I would emphasize is water changes. I would say you can get away with monthly water changes if your betta is in a tank 5 gallons and up. AND if your tank is CYCLED. Please do not set up a brand new tank and add your betta and not do a water change for a month. Yes they’re small but they still produce ammonia. And since there’s no beneficial bacteria established, the ammonia will build up and potentially kill your betta. Some might say “hey he looks fine, and the tank isn’t dirty...” test the water and make sure. Again monthly water changes are completely possible but be aware it’s not something you can do right away. The best way to keep your tank healthy and cycled is with plants! Research some that are low maintenance and add them to the tank. Moss balls are a great option. Anubias and Java fern are great too because you don’t need to plant them in substrate. Plants are good because they absorb toxic ammonia and nitrites. Plus, natural plants are cheaper than those sharp plastic one they sell at pet stores.
Thanks! For you advice!! We have a question… bought all the items you suggested and currently waiting for the tank to filter. How long do you think this will take?
Thank you! 😊 Once everything is in the tank and it’s running you’ll want to start the cycling process. The suggested wait time to add fish is a few weeks as it takes time for the bacteria and anonimia levels to all balance out. There are many different ways to cycle a fish tank and Aquarium Co-Op has a great video on the nitrogen cycle and different methods to check out (ua-cam.com/video/vur3JIfoEtk/v-deo.html). Congrats on your new tank! Let me know if you have any other questions! ☺️
my mum impulsively bought 4 bettas, two males two females, I have to now look after them on my own and we have one tank for two females and they seem to be getting along well and I'm saving up for two tanks for my two males (The two males are currently in two different tubs). This video has been hella helpful and I'm glad I didn't listen to the person working there saying a tiny little bowl would suffice as a good place for the bettas-
for the males get a 10 gal and get a divider so they’ll have enough space, make sure the dividers have small holes (not big enough for them to see eachother) so u only need 1 filter (unless ur fine with buying 2) you can also get a 6 gallon and they’ll be ok but a 10 gal is better
Careful about the two females, it’s not quite enough to form a betta sorority yet. Eventually, they might turn on each other, even if they were fine for months earlier. That was unfortunately the case for me.
I too had once used a small bowl for my beta and it died. On research I realized the Things to be a smaller tank, stress and definitely no heat regulations (which they do need strictly if its a smaller tank, basically if it is placed near higher air circulation area in the room).
My betta started in a 2.2 gal tank because it was all I could afford but as soon as I got my paycheck I brought him a 10 gal tank and he was extremely happy , my other betta is currently in another 2.2 gal tank and today I’m gonna buy him at least a 5.5 gal tank because every fish deserves to have enough space . No matter how big or how small .
Can you make a video with the best filter systems? Comparing some good ones versus some that are not that great, your videos are very helpful, thank you!
I have a blue marble male betta that i got recently and I named him Coelacanth, after the prehistoric ((still alive today)) 8-finned fish. Every time i come into the room he swims around and is excited to see me! He's so adorable and friendly, I just want him to have the best. Thank you so much! This helps.
My betta got himself stuck in a cholla wood piece while I was at work, and died. I think he was probably hunting down a black worm or maybe a daphnia, and got himself stuck. It was apparent that he was trying to get out of it :( he was bent around inside the wood. It was very traumatic and I will never put cholla wood in a betta tank ever again.
Sorry about your betta. Looks like he drowned. Bettas and gouramis are labyrinth fish and need periodic access to the water surface in order to breathe. Hope you have better luck with your next one. They truly are beautiful fish.
I got my first beta and your video is what showed up when I was doing research. I’m so happy(: I have live plants and a moss grove. I am so thankful for your video. I hope he lives a very long life.
@@gab1jansen if your fish is colourful and pretty then it's a HE, not a SHE. Female bettas are quite plain looking. Only the males are bright and colourful. And your betta will be fine. Look up how they live in the wild. They sometimes get stuck in tiny puddles in rice fields only inches deep and survive quite fine.
I just got a betta and I’m really confused if it’s happy or not like it swims around, ears , has beautiful colors but like it doesn’t interact with me... idk if it’s stressed
Watch out for: - Loss of color - Stress stripes, which are pale horizontal lines across his body - The way he moves his fins: Stressed Bettas tend to want to make themselves smaller than they are, they´ll keep their fins very close to their body and not stretch them.
I love you and your channel I am a new tank owner I have owed bettas before but now I have Everything now and really enjoyed it as a in-depth hobby and pet
My sister has a beta fish with a 6 gallon tank for himself his name is Fish flakes and we are getting a fish today and getting about a 4 gallon tank not a bowl though is that good?
I just got my betta last month and he was in a fish bowl for a week only and I fed him every morning and night we moved him over to a 20 gallon tank with a filter and a heater he now has tank mates and lots of room to swim
@@opalqueens7462 you will wake up one morning to a dead fish, im speaking from experience. i had mine together and they seemed fine. they do fight when you dont notice and even when things seemed great i woke up to dead fish cuz all it took was one fight. it couldve been over territory, who knows but dont fool yourself its just in their nature to be aggressive.
Could you please make some videos about how to use bacteria and cycle your tank? And also like, showing how to do the water changes how to feed them? I really need one about how to feed them cuz in some parts I've read that you should feed your betta like 5 times a day the amount of food they can eat in 5 minutes (which I've been doing but I don't know if its right) and I'm really confused now :c BTW my betta is in a 5 gallon tank with some tank mates, plants and 2 small trunks to hide in. It's my first betta tank but he seems to be really happy
i can help! cycling a tank takes patience first off. I use the shrimp method were you put an uncooked shrimp in your tank and let beneficial bacteria take care of it for 2-3 weeks. There are tons of other ways though if your not interested in that. You might be over feeding you fish. Bettas will continue to eat and eat so i would only feed how much they can eat in 1 min instead of 5. If you use pellets i would use 1-2 pellets twice a day. Last off a 5 gallon is great for a betta, but it might be too small for extra tank mates. A snail and betta would the the most i’d put in a 5 gallon. You aquarium seems really nice btw!
@@livy2177 OMG thanks!! This tips are really useful, I'm going to feed him less and look for a bigger tank then. And also the shrimp thing sounds cool. Thank you so much!
I think another mistake made with bettas is not knowing the difference between fin nipping & fin rot. Which leads me to another one, not knowing when & what medicine to use. As someone who has come across this issue several times with my bettas, I am suggesting this. I have a female that I a treating for dropsy (week 2, dropsy has subsided but she still has something). I couldn't tell if it was a problem or if she was just fat as she has been fat (eating too much, she eats the snail food too, little pig) or if it was becoming a problem till she was completely swollen & pineconing.
Hey, do you know why my bettas are dying? I gave them a variety of foods (frozen, fresh, pellets , tablets) I do weekly small water changes (maybe like 20% )the have a planted tank with plenty of space and their water levels are fine but they keep dying do you know why?
Try a different pet store. By my university the pet smart was taking care of the fish oddly. I had a ADF and a betta die within less than two weeks. Prior to this year, I had a betta veil tail male for a little over two years. I knew it wasn’t my doing. It was something else. Even some of my friends who are experienced with fish care had their pets die suddenly. All were from the same petsmart. Never had a problem with that particular store until this year so I’m not sure why.. Just maybe try a different pet store than the one you’ve been going to to purchase fish.
@@metal__medical1238 i have tried all the petstores in my area (i live in australia so there are different ones) and i have even tried from breeders , im rlly lost but there is one more i could try, but all my other fish always seem to do fine so idk, but thanks
@@zxrzFC are you using one of those evil airpumps and airstones which unnecessarily, and violently agitate the water surface? Most fish really don't need these things. As long as your filter output is agitating the water surface a bit, enough oxygen will be injected into your tank via gas exchange. But bettas and gouramis don't even require this. They don't breath oxygen through the water like other fish. They take air from outside of the water and absorb it through their labyrinth organ. If you had a wildly bubbling and thrashing water surface, that can definitely stress and kill a betta.
Hello, I was wondering if you know about Glofish? I’m new to fish tanks, I just bought a small 3 gallon and placed 3 Glofish in it. Do you have any advice or ideas for me?
Goldfish need a MUCH bigger tank!!! Get a bigger tank. They need around 20 gallons each, they cant get enough oxygen. 3 gallons is not okay. I hope you have a filter? And you use fish water conditioner for the water? Goldfish arent the easiest fish to take care of.
I'm buying my first Betta today for my 5 gallon tank I've been researching and setting everything up for awhile now. Can't wait to get him I hope he likes the tank I put alot of money and time into it lol
I have a betta and he is in a bowl with big rocks i feed him a very little amount everyday at 9:00 he likes to hide in rocks do you suggest I get some type of plant
I keep 1 male beta, 2 female beta, about 20 ángel fish, 5 corydora, 1 pleco, and 5 flying foxes in a 65g tank. Everyone’s doing fine, no diseases, no hostility, just a friendly, 100% planted environment with many places to hide. Beta fish can be kept in a large community tank, just make sure you choose the right mates and feed them personally because of course, bigger fish need more food.
I only have to add water that evaporates as needed. I have a bottom filter and use flattened marbles on the bottom so the crap can fall through easier and get sucked up by the filter.. It has a wide waterfall like return that is virtually silent and is non anxiety to the fish.I have 2 small round bubble stones in as well behind my plants. I am hoping to start trying breeding soon
I was at a pet store to get cat shampoo and seen a bunch of bettas in these teeny tiny little plastic containers and they didn't look healthy at all. Today, I caved to save one. Unfortunately the only thing I could find to tank him in was a 2 lt tank kit for bettas. I was amazed at how people think these small tanks are okay permanently. I got it just for temporary use to get him out of the small container until I get him an ACTUAL tank suitable for my little guy to permanently live in. Thank you so much for sharing the information. Alot of myths and lies are on these cuties and its the reason they get sick and don't live long. I'm so excited to give this guy a good home he deserves 😊
Just bought a butterfly male betta, got him live plants, nice smooth hut, got a heater that he loves. But I am worried about the built in filter (Aqueon 5 gallon tank). I'm worried it's to strong and not sure how to alter it to make it a lighter flow. My betta isn't stressed but I can tell he doesn't swim where the current is its strongest
I need y’all’s help I went to a 99 cents store not to buy a tank but just to look around and I saw a 1/4 gallon tank and it was plastic and a warning sighn saying it might give you cancer 😭 please make sure no one buys it it’s a death trap for any living thing
It’s funny my friend came up to me and said dude my betta lived for three months it had a long life and I showed him my four year montage of my old betta Neptune
I just bought a very young betta today. I used to own bettas in the past but they were much older than the one I bought today. The one I bought is around 1-2 months old, she's very small (about one and a half inches big) but lively. Any tips for a baby betta? I have her in a small self filtering tank I plan to upgrade once she gets bigger because I didn't want her to get sucked into a filter by accident (according to online pet product reviews it happens a lot to bettas specifically). She's a viel tailed betta.
@@alextea495 except it isn't? Really? Like the betta might be fine in optimum standing conditions but a filter makes it so so so much easier to get your beneficial bacteria colonies. And having a good oxygen balance will help aquatic plants and if your tank ended up w snails that you're trying to keep alive. Like. Think of the bacteria!
@@alextea495 like I don't think I'd put an airstone in if I was using a hanging filter (that introduces enough air on its own), but I do think a sponge filter is the best solution and that's what I use.
My Bo is in a 33 gallon long with 4 different kinds of tetras. He is super happy and is currently making bubbles. We do a 25% water change once a month with a cleaning of gravel.
I had my first betta when I was like 4 years old his name was swimmin I have two bettas now, I have a white one named angel and a purple one named cosmo, angel has a 10 gallon that he shares with 4 neon tetras, and cosmo has a 8 gallon bowl tank, I know that bowl tanks aren’t the best but it was an extra tank that i had and cosmo is purple which is rare, I think he has a great set up tbh Also can you plz answer why is my betta always in the corner of his tank angel is always in the corner, he doesn’t look sick and I have the perfect set up but he’s always in the back or in the corner.
Typically, you can use any sponge filter rated for your size tank (IMO) but you just need to find a great air pump. I’ve used Unicliffe 40 air pump in my 20 gallon tank as well as Hygger in a 5 and they have worked great for me. I would actually recommend Seachem Prime as a dechlorinator, I have used it for about a year now with my betta and it has always worked perfectly for me.
Im getting an 8.5 gallon tank to get a betta fish, im not a fan of the lid colour, would there be a way to recolour the lid safely to match a theme im going to go for(vulture/crow culture
Fal1 - Cult of Meatkinne I just noticed him acting different yesterday (lethargic then random jolting swimming) so last night/ this morning I got on the water treating/water changing ASAP. I really am hoping he is able to recover! I found food in the filter as well, I will definitely make sure to be more diligent about that. Thank you! How long was your fish showing symptoms?
Can you please tell me why my Betta fish is nose down, vertically up (like a headstand) after I changed out his water? He pooped while I was changing out his water, and then he just went nose down to the bottom of his tank (not flapping his fins, just looks like a headstand)
My fish shop that I go to, to get food and fish and plants and stuff only sell like 10 betta fish and each of the betta have their own 4 gallon tank with plants and the fish are always so friendly and healthy
they say small tanks aren’t recommended but the two I have, have been in one for a year and a half and they’re still good but I am wanting to give them more space and these tips helped, thank you
i currently have 1 male and 1 female and i put them in separate tanks, but if i put them together will they breed immediately? i heard that if they do breed then i need to separate the female from the frey and i dont really have the resource to take care of the freys if my bettas breed. so is it better to just keep them separate?
I have a 10 gallon tank for my hermit crabs and when they get to big for a 10 gallon I’m going to get a betta fish and put it in that 10 gallon so I’m doing my research
Ok, so one of my friends has a betta. She’s lost interest in it so she said she would give it to me. It’s in a jar. I want to set up the tank properly, but I won’t be able to filter and cycle the water in time. What should I do? If I switch out 50% of the water more often will the filter still get to a point where it will cycle correctly, or should I keep the betta in a tank I clean a lot and work on my bigger tank to get a good cycle?
Find a local fish keeping group on Facebook ect and see if anyone has cycled media you can have, that will jumpstart your cycle. Just make sure it stays wet and use a dechlorinator/ water conditioner before adding the media so the chlorine doesn’t kill the beneficial bacteria.
That percentage is too much, and could be stressing out your betta a lot. The most you should do weekly is 25%, and you filter should be good enough where weekly water changes aren't 100% necessary (like your tank is exploding with ammonia/debris)
I do similar in my 2x 5.5g betta tanks...except I change 35-45% once every week. My two betta boys are fine with this, so if your routine works for you and you don't see any clamped fins/tail, paleness (color loss & stress stripes), lethargy, appetite loss or illnesses in your bettas, and it keeps your water quality good and tank clean, then keep on with it.
I'll go even further and say that 25% every 2 weeks is sufficient. Even though you don't want high concentrations of nitrate in the water, you also want to have reasonably aged water for stability. And, if you have a heavily planted tank, even 25% once a month is absolutely fine.
I never seem to have enough water to clean it properly, what am I doing wrong ? I ended up keep topping it up sieving it and putting it back in till I get it clean then change water . Had my beta one year and he’s not been eating much last two days and seems lethargic . Checked his water parameters, they are fine . He’s in a big enough tank ,he has a sponge filter . His slime coat looks good and I can see anything wrong with him , he has Indian leaf in there , I’m at a loss . Have you any ideas , he’s swimming straight just seems lethargic. , I hope he’s going to be ok but I have a bad feeling . He’s normally so exited to see me, he’s coming to glass but doesn’t seem exited like he usually does 🥺🥺🥺
I have a very cute female betta I recently bought to keep the snail population down, it’s a nice 9 gallon tank with two otocinclus catfish (the third one died 😔) and 4 threadfin rainbows. She’s got plenty of places to hide and they all coexist together pretty well. She’s got a rather large area behind the plants to hide if she wants and she’s so curious. I’m so happy with her and my first ever tank.
@@michelel5772 I think she means the video has 12 mistakes about bettas. This wasn't a completely helpful video and some 'tips' were completely false. You don't need to aerate the water of a betta or a gourami. Look up labyrinth fish.
Sorority tanks can be done. You just have to be patient with it. We have a 37 gallon sorority tank. Heavily planted. Currently have 10 females, a high fin pleco breeding pair, 1 golden ram, 4 mystery snails, 3 red tetras (forgot their actual name), and 1 male. I wouldn’t normally suggest adding a male, but he’s our only one that’s super chill (we have multiple other males in their own tanks). Doesn’t really flare up at anything (mirror included, he just ignores it), which is the only reason he’s in that tank. Haven’t had any issues; but females will readjust their pecking order every time a new fish is added, so you’ll have to keep an eye on how everyone is reacting if new fish are added to an established sorority tank.
Any heaters you recommend ? I have a 1 gallon tank... also my fish fin are ripping i had a small piece of decor inside but it’s soft not ruff is it maybe because he’s cold?
My boyfriend literally bought a beta fish as soon as he moved to college and brought it over to my place for break and I could tell the lil fish wasn’t in the best environment. And he said he did his research but clearly not because he didn’t get the beta a heater or a big tank. So I decided to keep his beta here with me and now I’m doing my research to give him the proper care and the bigger tank that he will definitely get this weekend along with his heater and other necessities💜 thank you for the advice!!

@Firecracker CT yea but they didn't know
Use live plants , it is safer for Bettas.
Also if you don't have dechlorinator , use water that has been stocked for 3 or more days to put in a tank
Do 25-40% water changes every week instead of a larger one once a month, it's way better for their health, especially in smaller aquariums.

What kind of betta? I'm a fan of wild bettas

I showed this to my grandma and she said the little bowel I had is fine. I think I know why Posiden died-.
Same..
But i showed my mom, dad, and brothers
POSIDEN
RIP FLY HIGH🕊
i had bettas in a bowl growing up (not saying it was good, i use a 3.5 gallon now) and yes they weren't very happy but they didn't die because of that.
:D good!
Same lol
Did you research about your bearded dragon..

I just bought a 2 gallon tank for my Betta. Is that size okay?

You can also take a spring water bottle (20oz) and cut it in a way that you can attach it to the filter to catch and slow the flow of water back into the tank. Works great!

Love it
I have 3 Bettas that have lived nearly 3 years.

Thank you! 😊 Once everything is in the tank and it’s running you’ll want to start the cycling process. my mum impulsively bought 4 bettas, two males two females, I have to now look after them on my own and we have one tank for two females and they seem to be getting along well and I'm saving up for two tanks for my two males (The two males are currently in two different tubs). This video has been hella helpful and I'm glad I didn't listen to the person working there saying a tiny little bowl would suffice as a good place for the bettas-
Try to get a 10gallon tank for each gender in order to make It a sorority tank!
for the males get a 10 gal and get a divider so they’ll have enough space, make sure the dividers have small holes (not big enough for them to see eachother) so u only need 1 filter (unless ur fine with buying 2) you can also get a 6 gallon and they’ll be ok but a 10 gal is better
make sure the males don’t kill eachother!
Careful about the two females, it’s not quite enough to form a betta sorority yet. Eventually, they might turn on each other, even if they were fine for months earlier. That was unfortunately the case for me.
Way to go! I'm just finding this now and you said you had 1,400 subs and you're at 94k+ in a year, congratulations!

If he or she moves around and not just stay in one place then ur betta fish is healthy . And dont need to be worried about it .
Watch out for:
- Loss of color
- Stress stripes, which are pale horizontal lines across his body
- The way he moves his fins: Stressed Bettas tend to want to make themselves smaller than they are, they´ll keep their fins very close to their body and not stretch them.

Thank you for all the important information for caring for your pet betta(s).
Could you please make some videos about how to use bacteria and cycle your tank? And also like, showing how to do the water changes how to feed them?
I really need one about how to feed them cuz in some parts I've read that you should feed your betta like 5 times a day the amount of food they can eat in 5 minutes (which I've been doing but I don't know if its right) and I'm really confused now :c
BTW my betta is in a 5 gallon tank with some tank mates, plants and 2 small trunks to hide in.

Bettas are labyrinth fish. They have an organ that lets them directly breathe air, so in other words aeration isn't important.

i currently have 1 male and 1 female and i put them in separate tanks, but if i put them together will they breed immediately? i heard that if they do breed then i need to separate the female from the frey and i dont really have the resource to take care of the freys if my bettas breed. so is it better to just keep them separate?
Just make sure it stays wet and use a dechlorinator/ water conditioner before adding the media so the chlorine doesn’t kill the beneficial bacteria.
in a five gallon tank i like to do a 50% water change every week
He’s normally so exited to see me, he’s coming to glass but doesn’t seem exited like he usually does 🥺🥺🥺
my betta has a 2.5 gallon tank and he lived for 2 years
I have a very cute female betta I recently bought to keep the snail population down, it’s a nice 9 gallon tank with two otocinclus catfish (the third one died 😔) and 4 threadfin rainbows. She’s got plenty of places to hide and they all coexist together pretty well. She’s got a rather large area behind the plants to hide if she wants and she’s so curious. I’m so happy with her and my first ever tank.
10 mistakes .. Then puts 12 in the vid 😄
Yup and they were all helpful tips
@@michelel5772 I think she means the video has 12 mistakes about bettas. This wasn't a completely helpful video and some 'tips' were completely false. You don't need to aerate the water of a betta or a gourami. Look up labyrinth fish.
Question, I’m about to get a five gallon tank and the feeding lid, doesn’t have a flap.... should I get a new tank? Or is the small no flap okay?
Im early!!!
Yay!
Planet Fishness OMGZCAUYGDYUG YOU KEEP RESPONDING!!
Wish I would’ve watched this before my fish died 😔
Any heaters you recommend ? I have a 1 gallon tank... also my fish fin are ripping i had a small piece of decor inside but it’s soft not ruff is it maybe because he’s cold?
Lynn Bonica well that’s all i could afford at the time thank you
i have my beta in a 1 gallon (soon upgrading) !! but make sure you have a filter, a heater, real plants, NO fake plants.
@@izz5526 Fake plants are actually fine, they just have to be silk/soft ones.
@@lynnbonica4342 well he doin better now thank you
Im hoping you have a bigger tank now?
I love bettas I post videos of them as well! ❤️✌️
Good stuff Amy!
I’m a huge fan please respond
Hi! Thank you for watching!
Nice video, man. Informative with a small infusion of humor.
