There are WAYYYY too many betta fishs in pet/fish stores and they all stuck inside a tiny cup just wating to die... Thank you for giving them a great life!
@@Jona-hd2rp Than the cup, Rocket progressed well and was comfortable enough to build a bubble nest. You can nit pick every little thing but try to see it from the betta's perspective, he went from completely solitary in a dirty, useless cup to an open tank with plants, other creatures, delicious food, and a mate. Sounds like a pretty sound life if you ask me.
@@rossy2900 I think you don't understand: yes, he has a better life. But is it a perfect/very good life? No. And by the way: other creatures are absolutely not good for a betta. It belongs in its own tank without other Fish.
My mom got me a Beta at Petco in 2000. I loved that fish but wanted a little frog that looked like it had claws (I cannot remember what it was) and my mom didn't want to get it if I needed another enclosure. So she asked a workers if it was okay to put them together. He promised it was. Like a few days later...I wake up, get out of bed and go to check on my little friends. My little frog gutted my Beta. Just tore that fish up. It was horrifying as a kid. And I felt so guilty.
Only some fish dads lol others, like guppy dads for example will eat the fry. A lot of fish are notorious for eating their own fry. Bettas are such good dads though.
I love this. Bettas definitely deserve to live a nice life in a large tank with lots of room to swim just as any fish should. The only down side is when you “rescue” a Betta from a tiny cup in a pet store it only tells the store they should keep ordering more. The Betta trade is a very sad one. I’ve worked at pet stores and have seen how they get shipped. In teeny tiny little squared bags barely bigger than themselves with barely enough water to cover them and no room to swim. Sometimes no water and they’re already dead. I’m talking like barely 3”x 3” sealed bag. Of course most are already in very poor condition then they get placed into that tiny bowl and if they’re lucky they maybe get their water changed once a week. I wish more people could see how they are treated in the pet fish industry and could invoke changes. They deserve much better, they really do make for a nice pet and become very personable, as much as a fish can I suppose. Bettas have always been one of my favorite pet fish, and yes I have owned a few over the years.
Very inspiring video! My son picked out a black female betta and I post videos of her from time to time. It's not much, her 3 gallon tank, but it's definitely more than the cup we brought her home in! ❤

Just had a horrible thought. Do pet stores leave obviously sick and dying bettas on the shelf because they know some ppl will spend money to rescue them?
Unfortunatly, yes they do. A lot of bad pet stores will keep selling animals in bad containers and conditions as long as people keep bying them and its a real issue in certain places 😔
None of them in my area do that. They clean the beta cups and if they get too dirty they replace them. I know some fish stores that keep them in tanks only. Why would you want a fish youre trying to sell to not be visible.
Unfortunately some places do. I went to one pet store that had a "dead tank" filled with all the decaying bodies of fish. (Mostly goldfish). It had some stupid message taped to it trying to guilt people into buying their excess fish.
@@slothonmercury tanks might honestly be worse to house bettas because of how agressive they are. Males will literally kill eachother if they feel threatened
I'm glad my mom rescued so my beta fish, at first they all seem like there going to die but somehow she always saves them and at the end they look so happy and healthy^^
Bro this bettas fish life cycle is truly beautifull, im interested how Rocky is building his nest its just unic and different from other fish that laid eggs on a bottom of a river or aquarium
betta fish natural habitat that they evolved in were often puddles and oxygen deprived ponds, so bubble nests help provide more oxygen for the fry until they can stay near the top on their own and gulp air. Betta fish have a Labyrinth. They can breathe air. They gulp air from the surface when the water is low on oxygen. Fry labyrinth are not fully developed to breathe as easily so the bubble nest helps.
Thank you for using a 10 gallon, that's the smallest size tank a Betta should ever be in. People put them in tanks that are terribly undersized constantly. I add Indian almond leaves to Betta tanks, the tannins are good for them. My goal with fish is to recreat their natural environment as closely as I can, with tank aesthetics being seconday.
Long finned and older fish can do fine in a 5 gallon but yeah short Finns like to zoom around and they need 10 gallons but I will have 2 long Finns 1 will be in a 7.5 gal and 1 in a 5 gal

Wow..bettas are amazing! You did a wonderful job filming this and showing the process! I enjoyed the entire thing and it brought me both relaxation and comfort! ❤️
I used to use new baby wild guppy babies to feeder my bettas, especially when I was setting up for betta breeding. Females will eat the live food and then go into breeding mode. I got a bunch of bettas from my first breeding. Was very cool. I had 20 females and 5 males survive that first effort. All a pretty lavender with white fins. The adults had been a white female with red fins and a pale blue with white fins. This was before I started seeing that coloration in show bettas.
Thats a beautiful set up you made for Rocket. I'd call the female "Lady" from Lady and the Tramp. 😆 Don't let uppity people get you down. You rescued that fish at that moment from a deadly fate. Take care and GO ROCKET DAD!
Bubbles don't add O2...it's the surface movement caused by the bubbles that allows the gas exchange to take place. The idea of bubbles adding oxygen really needs to be expelled from the hobby altogether. I do love bettas tho and for anyone that is new to betta breeding and their behaviors, this is a cute informative video. Rocket looks so much better and tho I'm glad you saved him, buying from big box stores like that just helps them continue in their quest to mistreat all sorts of animals.
So are you saying that the surface movement allows more oxygen to dissolve, is that because the ripples and whatnot create much more surface area for oxygen absorption?
i feel like you are being pedantic. The bubbles cause the movement allowing the gas exchange to take place. Hence people say the bubbles add O2 to the tank. You are just being extra technical for no reason when they infact are effectively adding the 02
