      Do you know any knowledge on the rate at which plants like moss balls can absorb ammonia? Definitely agree don't want too many plants on the surface re gas exhange. Plus it blocks out the light.

      @@unusualaquariumecosystems5805 Moss balls grow very slowly, so in reality, they probably don't absorb a lot of ammonia. Fast growing plants tend to absorb a lot more ammonia.

      Hi @GirlTalksFish I am planning to set up a community tank with 1 betta fish, 15 Neon tetras, 3 The Trumpet Snail and 5 bronze cory catfish. Do you think a 20-gallon tank would be large enough to keep them happy?

    You're right about bettas interacting with the plants: I had one in a tank with a lot of crypts, and he was always swimming the leaves and stems, popping his head out to look at me as if to say "I am a great jungle explorer." :D

    I just subscribed to your channel. You are great at explaining the how and why things work. I am setting up my first ever aquarium with live plants. I only have a small amount of room to place an aquarium. I bought a 5 gallon tank. I am going to put a Betta in it. I do believe I have over planted it though. It looks very jungle like. I hope my fish friend will be okay when I get him. At this point, I am cycling the tank. Once the water parameters are correct, I will be adding my fish. I am extremely happy that you did the video about setting up a sponge filter. I had watched several videos from Aquarium CO-OP about filters and made the decision to add a sponge filter. Once I received the filter I realized , I didn't know how to set it up. Thanks to you, it's up and running! Thanks again.

    Great video. I use anubias broadleaf in my betta tanks. I also put some of the pothos in the tanks. My fish use the pothos leaves as hammocks, all I can see at night is the tips of their tails hanging off the edge of the leaves. The leaves do eventually start to rot, but it takes months, and then I just replace them with new leaves from the mother plant.

    Excellent video; very informative. I just bought a betta and am keeping him in a Fluval Flex 15 (with 2 Endlers and a mystery snail). I noticed that he is often lying in the substrate under plants or sometimes in them. I was concerned about this until I saw your video. I guess bettas are lazy fish. I often see any of my community fish hanging around the bottom among plants, but I rarely see them on the substrate or lying in the fronds like the betta does.

  • @tanyavs1
    @tanyavs1 4 роки тому

    Interesting! I also removed the moss balls and hornwort from my betta tanks because no betta I've had interacted/enjoyed either plant. I have a decent carpeting of littorella uniflora and my betta loves to lay on top or squeeze between plants. They root really well, so he hasn't lifted any and I can vacuum over them no problem. I had ONE plant, with five leaves and it looked completly different when I bought it. It died back, in fairness it was in sand, so when I moved it to Tropica soil, it took off and covered two of my tanks! Tropica soil is so light it's really easy for runner plants to propagate. It's actually a really nice replacement for the non-aquatic mondo grass I got duped into buying early on!

    How long should I cycle a new planted tank before adding my betta and tankmates? I'm 15 and I want to start a planted betta tank. But all the research I've done and videos I've watched have said to cycle the tank for a couple months before adding the fish. I plan to cylce the tank for at least a week to get the Nitrate and PH levels safe. But should I wait longer? I also want to put in a couple snails to help with algae growth. And I was thinking about a small 6-7 school of Ember tetras. I could really use some advice, tips, or just info. Thank you!

Or should I just stick with fake ones until I get the hang of things? Great video by the way!

      Hi there ! If you worry about tackling both live plants and a fish, I would recommend lucky bamboo. They’re just the cute little bamboo shoots people often put on their desk at office jobs. You can totally submerge them and they do great, to the fish it’s like being in a life size bamboo jungle and the bamboo with help with the nitrate levels in the water (:

    Irene, I had no idea you had your own channel. I need to get my wife to start watching your videos. We are about to setup our first Betta tank. We got just got a 14 gal Aqueon frameless cube (about 15 inches on each side) from Petco for half price! Anyway, I know we want to avoid Amazon Sword and we have some Windlov Java Fern in another tank we might move over to the new tank, but what is your opinion on regular Java Fern for a Betta?

    Are the glue and the plant fertilizer safe for the betta fish? I'm new to aquascape here.. :) Thanks a lot for your tips, anyway. Very detailed and easy to understand. Wishing Soundwave a good health and happy life always :)

      I know this was an old question, but in case anyone else is wondering, the gel formula of superglue, Gorilla Glue, etc is safe and easy to use. Here's a good forum discussion about it.

    I have a hornwort, it was the only thing I could afford so I brought it, and the employee at the shop said it’s nice and soft for fish. It grows seriously fast and the seeds have spikes, not very sharp to my betta fish but he knows to avoid it, I do add other stuff for him to play with so yea

    Do you need a special grow light for these plants or is ambient light from a window across the room? We do have a led light, bur irs just a regular light, not a grow light
