- Check out how easy it is to install these fork cartridge inserts!! Were they worth it? I'm not sure yet, give me a few hundred miles and I'll tell ya! This install should be pretty much identical for a fat bob as well.

No fork tubes were hurt during the making of this video…
Great video bud thanks so much for making it…
I will be referring to it when I do mine
Glad to help man!! It’s messy and a pain in the butt but thankfully it’s a one and done operation
Glad you made this video. On my list of upgrades to do. Still waiting on my backordered rear shock, though.
Hell yeah man!! That sucks :/
It’s weird, I’ve been in the dyna gang since 2013, it feels like everything we did to our bikes is just repeating itself. Not in a bad way obviously. Just feels like déjà vu but with a different frame.
This mod ain't specific to dynas. I remember changing out fork internals to dirt bikes all throughout the 90s. Just a motorcycle mod.
@@LonerBoi88883 yea but I’m talking about Harley’s.
Shock and fork technology really haven't changed much over the last 30yrs. Especially with Harley's.
Yep. Kinda same crap different day. Only difference is how these inverted fits are setup but pretty much the same otherwise!
Legend makes excellent suspension components.
I’ve been happy so far. Huge upgrade for sure!
I felt the difference immediately with the Legends installed. Much more responsive and no dive on braking, or excessive extension on acceleration which is great. Cornering now feels much more planted and positive.
They felt too harsh for a few rides but then settled in and got much smoother
My bike did drop at the front by about 0.7” (18mm) so a bit of lean angle lost but I like the look of the front wheel sitting a bit closer to the frame and the new stance it gives the bike.
I have no complaints but it would be good to be able to adjust preload without having to take the forks apart again !
Yes for sure! And really?? I’ve not heard of anyone having their height drop. That kind of sucks man. I do as of now notice no brake dive anymore which is a huge improvement. I don’t really have any good corners enough to truly test how it feels dipping into turns where I live unfortunately. And I do 100% recognize the stiffer ride in general even at its lowest preload setting for me. It has not settled in after several hundred miles already and I got to be honest I am not loving it. If that’s the trade-off that you have to have to get good suspension then I am OK with it but I do believe just based on reviews I have heard from other more expensive front suspension set ups, that you can have the best of both worlds and have a smooth ride while still not experiencing brake dive
Good video Im thinking about upgrading the suspension on my bike next
Thanks ! 🤙🏼
Appreciate the vid and effort.
Thanks!
Hey bro, to pull the drain bolt you need the fork upside down. Then, pressing the inner slider inward in an attempt to compress the fork while you hit the drain bolt with a 3/8th impact. While trying to loosen the drain bolt your just spinning the internals with it. Downward pressure compressing the fork while you remove the bolt will lock up the internals and the bolt will come right out. A legit suspension vise will have a 360 degree pivot before the jaws so you can quickly flip the fork back upright and catch the oil in a pan!
Good to know man! Thanks!!
Dude as a fellow creator I know you put a ton of time into this upload prayers it does well for your channel ! Mad respect for taking this one and making a great video
Oh very much so!! Lol. Thank you man I appreciate that a ton!!👊🏻
@@RidinDad yeet yeet ! Keep it up maybe our paths will cross one day
Will do man! Never know. It’s a small world for sure man
Disappointed we didn't get to see you work the shaft on camera 😕 haha... Thanks for the video you definitely make tackling harley projects seem a lot more manageable!
Lol that video is on a different website! Thanks man!!! That’s the goal! 🤘🏼
Can we get a full review of this now the front and rear is installed
Absolutely. The video is coming. Want to make sure I have enough miles on it to actually review it. I do have a review on my rear suspension a while back. Not sure if you ever saw that one. I haven’t had much time to ride it u fortunately. Been on the lift at home doing a bunch of work to it plus my schedules been pretty crazy
Great video as always RD.! This will be my next project. Thank you for sharing. Let us know some feedback about this product after some miles please !
Absolutely man!! Review will come soon. Thanks!! 👊🏻
have you done a ride review yet. i cant seem to find any reviews on legend in inverted HD forks
Yes I have. I did a full suspension review with the legends and the rwd I have in the back
Do you know the diameter of the triple tree clamps the aftermarket ones are saying 49mm but that doesn’t seem right with the inverted forks
Someone should correct me if I’m wrong but the inverted forks are 43mm I believe. That being said on a traditional fork set up they are talking about what we have as the bottom. So just because our bottom is 43 I believe the top diameter might be 49.
this is correct@@RidinDad
When you ride around and take your hands off or left hand off at least, does it pull left? The dealer is trying to tell me that all Harley’s have a slight left pull due to the primary. If I go no hands it’s pretty instant, if I go only my throttle hand I have to flex my core and push my hand forward to keep the bike straight. It’s ever so slight but it’s really annoying I can’t just relax on the highway.
Not for me man :(
Mine does this
Is the diameter of the legends top cap the same as the harley fork tube? Wondering if it could be dropped all the way into the upper tree to get max ground clearance.
Yes it is. It sits flush from what I can tell. Probably can man!
@@RidinDad Good to know. Can't wait to see the review after you get some miles on them. Really thinking of getting them for my FXLRS. Great job on the video bro.
It’s comin soon! Thanks man! 👊🏻
Is there any chance you could measure the top cap on the cartridge and let me know how tall it is?
those are Suspension Technologies USA inserts. You're breaking my heart
Whaaaa??
Hi man! What size castle die did you use?
I don’t believe I used a castle die at all??? What part are you talking about exactly ?
I know it's been awhile, but I was wondering why you didn't go with the rwd rs-1F front cartridge?
Mostly price. And I wanted to see for myself if legends was actually worth it or not. I hear people trash them and people love them. I wanted to see for myself. And they’re not worth it lol
RWD doesn’t make 43mm cartridges for FXLRS inverted forks yet. The RS-1F if for 49mm forks. FXLRS are 43mm
I thought hey had cartridge inserts
Hi new sub, I have a quick question regarding the 2018 Fat Bob inverted fork seal and oil change. How much oil is required for each fork (stock)? I believe they use sam fork with low rider s. Thanks appreciate
Same oil yes. Are you changing the stock oil? If so I’m not sure. I’m sure a manual will tell you what the amount is. If you’re doing this setup it’ll be the same amount that I put in. Thanks for the sub!
@@RidinDad i dont have the manual book, and can’t find on google. I just wanna replace the seal and change the fork oil because leaking so bad. The spring and cartridge using stock. If you know the original amount please let me know, thanks
@dwisaputra9161 I don’t. Sorry. But you can easily find the manual for your specific bike on line. Most are free or you can buy a pdf or paper copy too
So how was the upgrade?worth it or try a different suspension?
They helped brake dive a ton. They feel decent overall but they don’t absorb stuff amoothly. Fairly harsh. For the money compared to what else is out there with a price difference I think it’s not a bad option at all but if I had to do it over again I would probably just wait and spend a little more and go with the race tech or the GP suspension inserts. They are more adjustable and I have heard better reviews overall for them
I've been thinking about doing this for months now. When they finally released their rear shock it put me over the edge just haven't quite ordered everything yet. Then I saw this and thought; It's time and guess what. That Jims 5831 socket seems to be out of stock EVERYWHERE. lol Looks like I'm stuck waiting now. :(
That sucks man :(. Maybe you can find it on eBay. Or a similar brand?Fingers crossed!!
@@RidinDad Checked eBay already, no go. I'll just have to wait
That sucks man! :( I thought about selling mine but it’s just worth too much to me to keep especially with hell out of stock everything is lol my luck is I will sell it and then needed for a buddies or something else I’m changing on mine and never be able to get it again lol so I’m gonna keep mine
Hey dude I’d like to pick your brain on this install.
I recently did the same thing and I’ve been trying to get a hold of legends for a few questions but they seem to never be available.
Is there a way I can dm you?
Absolutely man. Instagram! Link to my page is in my about tab on UA-cam
I have installed on my Fat bob 2018 it feels stiff and bounce on rough road.
Yeah not a fan at all. Stuff is ok and expected with an upgraded setup but the bounce is not good
Mine too
@@chip9832 I thought with some miles of riding it will brake in but did not.
Nope
Bike looks oddly familiar? 🤔
Nah man. You’re getting me confused with somebody else. I don’t even ride. I just take pics
If you must rip the whole bike apart. Is it really even a “drop in kit” anymore? I mean. All lowering fork kits are “drop in” unless you can stuff the springs in from the side.
Do you even know what you were talking about? Yes these are definitely drop in compared to the other kids. Do you understand how many components there are that are already pieced together in this kit? You could buy individual pieces or springs by themselves, etc., all of those require much more work than this. And what else would you like this to be for a more drop in explanation for you? Do you have to remove the oil to replace with new oil with anything you do, and you have to take the forks out of the bike to work with them. I don’t really think you have a good grasp on what a full pork internal job would require compared to this kid.
@@RidinDad I don’t know anything about “kids”. I was talking about kits. Don’t put “kids” in your forks.
Lol touché man
A new low riders ST is “real big” 🤔
What do you mean?
@@RidinDad you stated you may have something “real big” planned. I was guessing a new low rider ST is real big news
Lol oh hell nah man. I’m not a fan of the st honestly. Some good stuff but overall I prefer my one off style vs an off the shelf kinda thing. Also I have way too much crap in to this bike to trade it
Awesome video! wanna sell me that tool! Please?
Possibly yeah. Make me an offer?
Dam u lost a ton of weight
I did!
I can’t get the bolt back in the bottom to save my life.
Mine went in fine man. Is it not grabbing or just not reaching anything?
@@RidinDad I somehow stripped out the cartridge slider and the bolt wouldn’t grab, what a pain.
Gotta re tap it?
@@RidinDad considered it but with my luck it would have failed on me, bit the bullet and bought a new one from Harley.
As long as you got it rideable some how man 👊🏻
