How to install RWD RS-1 Monoshock for Harley Davidson! How does it perform? 🤔

- Walking you guys through the installation of a Russ Wernimont Designs RS-1 Monoshock on a Harley-Davidson 2018+ Softail (FXLRS). This shock is awesome! Russ Wernimont partnered with Walker Evans racing to bring you a shock that really performs! Did I mention it gives you an extra 1.5 inches 😏. I'm also giving you my first ride impressions of the new shock. Be sure to stay tuned till the end to see whether or not a Harley can power wheelie. I sure wasn't expecting the answer I got 😅.

love your set up, im going to do this shock on my fat bob too and want to get my gauge up on my bar too
Looks great! I ended up installing a Nitron R1 shock because with those you can get different length eyelets and the eyelets are adjustable by screwing them in or out.
So I have mine currently set up at the point where I haven’t needed to
shave anything off the frame. Probably about 13.5”

Nice video. I think I'll be doing this to my FXLRS. Also, you definitely need to adjust your belt tension after such a drastic change in the suspension. That's a pretty important step bud... Anyway, more lean angle, easier wheelies, more comfy. What's not to like?

Good vid mate. Im liking the way youre doing your own work. Im not overly keen on this one though. I'd sooner dump it down than raise it up but its all a matter of personal preference. Thats what makes Harleys cool. You can make em your own. Keep up the content bra!
Thanks, man! I totally agree, to each their own. For the type of riding I like to do, getting a little more lean angle and clearance is a must, but for a good lookin' cruiser their isn't much better than the LOW Rider S 😎

Form follows function. These mods aren’t done to be cool or “look cool” these type of mods serve a purpose for better performance.

There is no reason that guard had to be a chunk of metal. Those design decisions add up. Working on the new softail we noted that HD could have easily made the bike 30lbs lighter.

Which way do you turn the adjusting ring to add pre load? Clock or counter clockwise?

@@CassidyCarson im absolutely loving it dude, its an amazing bike, it already has a pretty great stock lean angle, i can really carve the canyons with a ton of confidence so i can imagine how much better the additional clearance is. The 114 is mind blowing tbh, so much torque so early in the rpm and the powerband is smooth. Ive only had it a little over a week and have already put 900 miles on it.

To get the gauges mounted up you need a bracket to put them in, and something to fill the holes in your dash. My bracket is from speed kings cycle. The only thing their kit doesn’t come with is the gaskets for the back of the gauges, but they lost the Harley part number for you to get from the dealership. As far as the dash block off plates, mine are from Hairy Customs, but the 31 state block off plates, or the ones from hardcase performance are also great choices! 👍🏻

What gauge mount do you have? Speed Kings? I have the same gauges and they have the silver trim ring. I see yours are all black. Looks like your gauge housing covers that silver trim ring. I like the all black look. Did you just add a cover over the top?
After you installed that monoshock did it move you closer to the bars at all?

Harley should have this bikes stock with taller suspension and decent lean angle and keep the classic low looks on the fat boy and heritage.

Great video. As said above, love that you do your own work. Personally, I'd never do this to my LRS. Makes them look awful. But that's the beauty of it, we get to build our rides the way WE want them lol. Keep up the good work bro.

Just installed my RWD shock last night thanks to your video! Did you need to fix your kickstand? (I honestly like the gangster lean lol) but if you do need to, what did you do to fix your lean?
I haven’t had to fix it yet but I have heard of some people having issues with it. I’ll probably add the extension block once I do my front end as well! Congrats on the upgrade, my man! Glad I could help!

Do you run any bags? I've got this shock coming for my fxlrs and I've got leather pros. Just wondering if you've had any issues with bags and this shock?

My rwd rs1 reservoir mount is like 1mm away from the sprockets side…. Is that normal

Why does no one in these suspension videos actually measure the eye to eye length of the old and new shocks?

Nice mod, agree the stock suspension is great on this bike, this mod is all about the extra lean I guess. Do you have Instagram mate ?
Yessir! Overall ride quality is better as well. Like I said in the video, the stock suspension isn't bad by any means, but this just takes it to the next level.

It gives you a bit more lean but it also makes the bike feel more responsive and it corners better. This is due having a bit less rake on the front forks and a shorter wheel base after installing a taller shock.
The other thing I did was I got a smaller front tyre put on (Avon Cobra) This reduced front wheel diameter by almost 0.75”.
All of that combined makes it very agile in the twisties
