  • Tour the Northwest's Vintage/Antique trading center with us in Centralia, Washington! Since 1986, Centralia Square Antiques has filled the town's 1920s Elk's Lodge/Hotel with quality pieces not often seen in antique malls. Antique and vintage advertising, signs and store displays are abundant here. Other highlights include a space filled with high-end 1930s Art Deco lamps, streamlined decor and designs by Bel Geddes; a wide variety of Native American basketry and jewelry. High-end costume jewelry, art glass, toys and quality carved American oak furniture make this a colorful and fun stop, halfway between Seattle and Portland in the midst of Centralia, Washington's 450-dealer antique district. USA Today ranked this among the top 20 antique towns in America last year, for good reason!

    At 17:45 ...the placement of the price tag was definitely thoughtfully placed. 😂
    Again your knowledge on basically every single item you pass while out and about is both admirable and incredible. Your channel isn't just fun, but extremely educational, without being too rigid or uptight about your info.
    A much enjoyed video! 🤗
    & I also must add, WOW! 👏🏻💕
    Look at your channel growing!
    You'll be growing quickly, I know it!
    (must resist my crude humor here)
    I'll be proud someday to have known you when you were at less than 100 subs. I feel like I can see you on television someday! ❤️ you'll be getting your UA-cam play button in the mail in no time! 😍

      Thank you!! That is such a great mall, it's where I got my start and it helped so much to learn where there was a lot of great stuff to see. I remember a boring history teacher who made it about useless memorization rather than talking story, I'll try not to be that guy!
      Centralia is a conservative town but I rolled my eyes about the pricetag placement (Although I guess that's "advertiser friendly"). Speaking of which, I filled in the blank on your resisted comment, came up with a dozen different things that all made me smirk 😆
      Very grateful to Misty at Thrifter Junker Vintage Hunter, she gave me a big shout out after binging on some of my stuff and the subs shot up a great deal.
      You are very kind and supportive to notice, you made me feel good about doing this early on and it's nice seeing people enjoying and learning! I'm learning as well (especially about tech stuff, I'm not such a natural in that area)
      Still really enjoying your vids very much as well 😁

    I has forgotten all about having to pay to use the rest room. Came flashing back. I’m 71 now and that was some time ago on the New York State turnpike. This was an excellent video covering lots of collectibles. Thanks for jogging my memory and for teaching me new things as well.

      Yes it's charming and the whole upstairs has been renovated into a ballroom and hotel like it was when built in 1920!

    That Art Deco collection was to die for! Funny, Dr. Lori’s prediction for what is hot for the 2020s is Deco because it is the 100th anniversary of Art Deco. I don’t always buy these hundred year cycles that determine popularity and values or even collectibility. I just see that unique and scarce MCM pieces are going to continue to increase in collectibility and value. The hard to get and high end of collecting should be coming. Collectors have the basic collection and now the knowledge of what is better! Just need more disposable income out there. We all are becoming used to the availability of cheap collecting.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  4 роки тому +4

      Wasn’t that a great grouping? I don’t agree with the hundred year cycle theory at all, given that Victorian lost popularity in the 1990s, while Arts and Crafts was peaking, only to go soft right when it hit the century mark. On the other hand, the best of any collecting category remains so, even if the overall trend for that category weakens.

    Wow!, a lot of interesting items there. There was a Depression Glass Hoosier sugar canister, at 17:07, a hen and rooster set at 19:30 - I have a billion +3 of those sets...a lot to keep clean, and an enamelware pitcher at 26:10. I have one of those, along with a bowl, I use as a pitcher and wash basin set, on an oak wash stand. The wash stand is a bit unusual. It has a side compartment, for the chamber pot, and another towel/washcloth rack, with two dowels, over the side compartment. The top drawer, in the main part, is a camelback. On to the next video...

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  4 роки тому +1

      That sounds like a really useful and interesting washstand! I’ve only seen one with multiple racks before and it was actually in Centralia Square, the mall in this video

      @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS 4 роки тому +2

      @@TheAntiqueNomad I do, indeed, use the washstand. It holds several of my odds-and-ends pieces, too...R. S. Prussia shaving mug, two old kerosene lamps, Vapo-Cresolene lamp... With three drawers, and the side compartment, it can hold a lot of stuff.

    Catching up on older videos....Comment about CorningWare and Pyrex. I think two different groups are responsible for the resurgence of it in vintage mkts...the kitchen collectors and those that do not want to use plastics because of its health issues when used for reheating in microwaves. There is no worry with CorningWare or Pyrex. The only issue with Pyrex is the newer stuff they made not being so cold to hot worthy in the oven like they used to be. There also may be a Made in America movement that is motivating people to buy vintage instead of cheap imports?

      I'm glad you're going back in time with me! I personally avoid plastic containers for food, we're always being told they're perfectly safe and then 20 years later we're told otherwise. That's why I buy the old fridge dishes

      @@TheAntiqueNomad Canada issued a ban 5 years before the US did.
      Years before the US finally issued a ban, there was a notice hanging in lunchrooms at the NIH reminding people not to use plastics to heat their foods in the microwave. They knew how bad it was but they were giving the chemical lobby a big break until they found something they could use. Disgusting.

    Cranberry glass gets its color from adding gold. Is it true that old cobalt blue glass got its color from adding silver? I heard this but nobody mentions it, so I wondered if it was wrong info given to me.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  4 роки тому +3

      Hi, April! Cobalt actually is the mineral used to get the deep blue color. Silver isn't used in glass production in any manner I know of other than as electroplate or overlay.
