- ANTIQUE SHOPPING IN MANCHESTER// Hi there, We are back and are so so excited! We hope you all had the best start into 2020! We enjoyed our break in Germany and being with our families but we also missed this amazing community. It's our happy place!
Yesterday we went to Manchester to check out some amazing places for vintage/antique shopping. It was a wonderful day although we didn't find what we were looking for, we had such fun. Make sure to check out the links to the shops if you like to visit them yourselves. Hope you like the video.xx

Les malles, valises et cantines de l’antiquaire sont fabuleuses. Et puis, dans les années 70/80, en France, il y avait des boutiques Laura Ashley qui proposaient ses robes longues tellement romantiques en Liberty....... Merci de nous avoir montré, toutes ces belles choses.
The hunt,for just the right thing, is part of the fun. When you finally find what you want you'll be glad you waited. I have that 1st Laura Ashley book you saw. I got it for $1 at an estate sale here in the US. I like to get old decorating books. What's old is new again!

Happy New Year to you both! That's the problem here in British Columbia Canada; so much large furniture in the few antique places we have left, and hardly any small stuff. I do have that Laura Ashley book, the 2nd one shown with the same cover! I feel old. I bought it brand new. LOL! I still have it because it's so reminiscent of the 1980's, one of my happiest decades. I got married back then, bought a house, and had our one son. I look forward to all your new adventures.

Hi Kirsten! Have you ever been to an antiques auction? There will be one near where you live and you could pick up the most amazing bargains! After all, that is where the dealers go to get their stock, and then sell it on at a profit! Most brown furniture is practically given away and you can make it look very stylish by painting it yourself with chalk paint - it’s really easy! Plus there will be everything else you are interested in - mirrors, pictures, rugs and usually masses of old china!

Oh there is. Nothing that makes my heart beat faster than an antique shop! We visited Manchester but missed this area. Couldn’t carry too much back home, I did buy some old books though! 😘🥰😊

I was born and bred in Levenshulme. The building you are visiting used to be our Municipal Town Hall. We lived five minutes walk away. It used to be a very pretty place when I was growing up there in the 1960s. Looks very run down now. I still love it though and look on it as home. Thanks for the upload! Xxx

It is overwhelming because it seems to be floor to ceiling ..isle after isle..but totally agree when you are looking for a certain item best to wait. It's always disappointing when you can't find what you want on a shopping trip. Happy New Year Kirsten and Jorg! I love antiquing in England. Many of the villages in the Cotswolds were filled with wonderful antique shops but unfortunately many of them have gone to online shops. I highly recommend antique fairs especially in London. Kirsten I bought the concealer and cream blush you recommended by Glossier. I love it so thanks for that. On another note....have you been to Stamford? It a beautifully preserved historic village with a fabulous hotel called the George. If you haven’t you must go and stay there. And please make a dinner reservation for their restaurant. It’s fabulous! 😘 Mary Jane in Virginia

Some interesting shops. We love browsing through antique shops, it’s one of our favourite pass times and we’ve bought some very interesting stuff over the years. You never know what you’re going to find! Hastings Old Town is interesting and so is a Rye where we used to live. We also enjoy Bargain Hunt and love Antique Roadshow. Thanks for sharing.
It’s true, NJ, that’s exactly what it’s like...☺️. Antiquing in the States is much the same. Some areas like the Eastern seaboard are much richer treasure troves then some states more than others. Love Manchester, went there once during a university interview when I lived in UK, lovely memories...can’t wait to see your upcoming travels..you mentioned you may be visiting some southern places..My UK family home is in Buckinghamshire, lots of beautiful places to see ie Roald Dhal museum, the windmill in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie, stunning views from Coombe Hill, Bekonscot the first model village,, gorgeous Waddeson Manor and many quaint spots where movies/TV series were filmed here too such as Malifacent, Midsomer murders, Rosemary and Thyme to name a few! Would be lovely to see home from here in the US with you two being the most amazing tour guides! Thankyou

My husband and I went to Los Angeles for Christmas to visit my son and his family. Because we were taking the train we decided to drive down Redding CA where the station was and spent the night before our early departure at a nicely remodelled, slightly modernized and trendy 50's style motel near the station - the "Americana Modern Hotel". We enjoyed our stay and I "Kirstened" (videoed) the room for my sisters, they loved it, though my videos were only 20 seconds long, ha ha!

Wonderful places, we have some like that near me. I could spend days and a lot of money! I have to be quite harsh and only visit when I really NEED something! Or I come home with too many lovely things. I hope you find what you are looking for soon as I completely agree you need more road trips to visit all the other vintage stores and markets we have. I was going to say come visit Kent, my neck of the woods. If you haven't been to Canterbury yet, I think you would Love it, visit Canterbury Cathedral, it's quite magnificent. Also, Hythe has some lovely antique shops...Folkestone's creative quarter, art galleries, lovely tea rooms along 'The Old High Street' has some lovely shops, and 'The Harbour Arm' is a bustling matropolis now with antique fairs, live music, art galleries, jewellery making workshops there in the summer...You never know, I might bump into you both if you decide to visit 'The Garden of England' as Kent is known. Rye is a beautiful fishing town with lots of Antique shops too. I do hope I've not bombarded you hehehe :-)

@@KirstenJoerg Hehe, you better get proficient in bending time ⌚ When my son was a little Angel boy of 5 (22 now 😊) I would take him to Canterbury Cathedral a few times a month to light candles, when we got home after he first shared with me lighting candles for loved ones, he suggested the next time that whom ever we choose that we imagine them together and send them love light from our hearts 💕 and so our regular jaunts began. How darling is that 😇 I'm not Christian or of any religion (nothing against those who are, full respect) but churches and cathedrals are a place of peace and beauty to me, oh the architecture is so amazing...In kindness Shaishannah 😊

It's so amazing to me how you have so many people watchers from the USA! I am from the USA but moved to England in 2006. And fingers crossed I will be making my DREAM come true this year and opening my own tiny antique/vintage/art and design shop! Maybe both of you can come and see me!
