You know, I just realized that Stanley and the narrator are basically glued together. If Stanley dies, the narrator goes with him, starting all over again. Even though that the narrator has the ability to restart the game, I don’t think he has the ability to stop Stanley/the player from dying. If you think about it in a certain way, none of them are in control of this situation.
I swear his sad voice hurt so much. It genuinely feels like hearing a puppy cry, the voice actor they picked for the Narrator is simply amazing, I can understand why everyone loves him so much (aside from his previous works), his voice and the way he express things so well even if you can't see the expression of the character is just amazing. Just his voice is enough to convey the emotions perfectly and I've seen many actors, even the one people consider the best actors do sad scenes and honestly it doesn't express as well as just his voice. It still sounds fake and acted while this one actually feels genuine.

I think the Narrator acts fairly in the Countdown Ending because he's punishing Stanley for his greed. While he does make fun of Stanley a bit in the Wife Ending, he did try to help by telling Stanley that his job is killing him. Also, since the Narrator was trying to guide Stanley towards the Freedom Ending, I don't think he wanted anything bad to happen to Stanley.
I never actually finished this section I was playing in a friends computer when i got to the Zen room for the first time And when i heard the narrator begging me to go back I went back into the zen room and chilled to the audio My friend fell asleep in the same room and i just decided to let the audio play for him to sleep and left the house So in my own little world The narrator is still in the zen room Feeling happy.
for anyone who can't mentally handle the ending due to it's suicidal themes and the Narrator's dialogue being obviously mentally painful for people who are still going through it there is an optional setting that allows you to skip Zending whilst still getting the badge for it
This game is absolutely brilliant. Spent 30 minutes in this ending because I kept coming back to the zen area every time the Narrator objected (skip button + not stanley endings broke my heart, I didn’t want to break his again) Every time I went back and forward again he would comment and that made me more and more sad. At one point I stayed looking at all the lights to make him happy for a while. I knew how it would end and honestly I would’ve been content with just staying there, as long as it took to keep him happy

Honestly, I feel like this ending perfectly represents the guilt that comes with suicidal ideation. It almost seems like it could a conversation between someone struggling with wanting to end their own life & someone else who deeply cares about them, blaming them for wanting to end things & begging them not to, because it would hurt them so so much. I don’t think people truly realize how many people hold on purely because they can’t stand the thought of hurting their loved ones, & I think the narrator really personifies that fear perfectly. It’s also kind of fitting that though you can delay it as long as possible, the only way to actually complete the ending is to keep jumping off the stairs, kind of reminiscent of how hopeless it seems for the person wanting to end it. It’s so poetic but painfully real.
I mean a did feel a BIT sad, but I was honestly kinda laughing all through it because I wasn’t taking this, or the entire game for that matter, seriously.

They probably need the context of (and likely need to experience) the rest of the game to understand it. Yknow, if you hear of a character dying in a game, its not really that sad if they don’t know or care who they are. Now, your favorite character you’ve watched grow through arcs and become the person who they are, through toil and triumph and downfall, it was them that died. But now it matters because you understand who that character was and is.
So this is the third ending I got to the game, I’ve never felt more guilty over a disembodied voice. Props to the devs and the narrators VA but did you really have to hurt me so much?
"Stanley? Can go back to the other room? Can you do that for me?" That's an amazing "kid tugging the parent's shirt" type line delivery, it's like a perfect voice of someone giving puppy eyes

3:12 this line, this TERRIBLE line. It wasn't in the original, why the hell did they felt the need to add it? Was it such a necessary change to all of a sudden switch the narrator's personality from devestated and distressed to a scolding nanny? It ruined the whole ending for me.
I think it wasnt a neseccary line , but it wasnt bad either , its meant to mean that the narrator is trying to regain control, quickly collecting himself , do what hes meant to do being the narrator
the narrator is incredibly manipulative he obliterated Stanley with an atomic explosion, crushed him with massive metal pistons, trapped him in a shallow hole for eternity, mocked him about never seeing his wife again, pushed him into a harrowing existential crisis until he died, gave him an emotional support bucket that actually helped, only to try persuading him into destroying it in the bucket destroyer and now, he’s guilt-tripping Stanley into staying in a light room with no exits, essentially trapping him forever, leaving jumping off a staircase repeatedly as the only escape, all while pretending he lacks the power to simply remove the staircase from the room
you can skip the ending if you have content warnings enabled, if you reach this part in the game you can hold F to both skip the ending and complete it without needing to see the Narrator being absolutely depressed
I want a 24/7 stream of staying in the dorm just to make him happy. His voice is heart breaking
