What a goat. You make incredible games and devlogs to go with them, and have inspired me as a developer a lot as well. I’m working on my first proper game that I’m gonna release on steam in large part because you’ve been a great inspiration. The looks you’ve given me and others into your creative process have been endlessly helpful. Thanks so much for that and keep up the good work.
Im really glad a new game like this is coming out! There's been others like Jump King and Only Up and stuff but honestly a lot of these games just focus on the "hard" aspect of GOI but thats not what made it good, its because the movement was really fun, and you could really master it and feel in control, now with 40 hours in getting over it it feels totally natural to play, ill definitley be picking this up!
@@musiclassic1 That depends on what you find realistic. You don’t control every limb individually in peaks of yore, most of it is done with your hands and crampons. But they’re a lot of different obstacles the game throws at you like rocks you can only hold onto for a certain time or slippery rocks, even ice that you need to hold onto with ice pickaxes. There is also a permadeath mode, that restarts your whole progression on an individual save file separated from the one you normally play on. So while you could call new heights more realistic because it gives a better simulation of physics, peaks of yore at least for me just captures the feeling of climbing better since you always now you’re at risk of falling off if you don’t use a safety rope and see everything from the first person and for me that is more realistic. But as I already said in the end it depends on what you find realistic and what not.
Jump King is actually extremely well made though. Extremely fair, amazing controls, fun to play, beautiful art, the whole package. Games like Only Up and Getting Over It don't have any of those qualities really.
That's crazy, I was following you when you started the punch a bunch videos and had no idea you made this game too! You're really skilled dude nice work!
This is so coool!! It's been awesome to watch you going from your first game, to making this high quality of a game! The look definitely feels like Getting Over It, but it's different lighting and color schemes make it look a little more modern and clean
the game looks gorgeous and you are super talented and hardworking, your passion for games inspiring me more and more to stick to game dev and do better games
I honestly love this kind of behind the scenes, making of the game content. Especially for 'simple rage games'. Your comedic timing is also excellent, NGL i love it.
I think one of the best parts about getting over it was its narrator. Since your game lacks that and it would be pretty weird to just copy that, I think you need a different additional layer of originality to your game. Maybe with some dynamic, custom and original music library which should be as good as the game itself or maybe you could just add a completely distinct mechanic that makes the game more fun and your loss of progress more bearable. Otherwise it just feels like getting over it but without the narrator and people barely felt the need to not just ragequit after an hour with that game.
In my eyes, Getting Over It is a game about resilience in the face of adversity- but at the same time: a multifaceted commentary on the disposable nature of digital content and the devaluation of growth in exchange for instant gratification. But in his eyes, it's just "A difficult game about climbing" kill me
For me personally the most fun and interesting part of Getting Over It was more so mastering the controls than the meta commentary, and clearly that feeling is what this game is going after, and there's nothing wrong with that, and I don't really think it needs to base its design off of how it'll be compared to Getting Over It like you suggest. But I do agree that a dynamic soundtrack would fit this really well and definitely add to it, so let's hope it's in the game :)
Jesus I didn't realize you guys were so pretentious. ALTF4 and Jump King were also shown in the video and both of them are just rage games with no meta commentary.
@@LieroidI agree. The commentary was a fun part of the game for me but obviously it still was not the main focus. This game is probably pretty decent in its current state. But for newer players there isnt really any reason to purchase this game instead of getting over it. And for people that have already played getting over it, they have experienced this formula for atleast a couple of hours. So the original formula itself might not be enough to keep players engaged with a second game after all those hours. I think the solution for that is to introduce something new so that the regular climbing part of the game isn't the only thing keeping players from quitting or even tempting them to purchase it in the first place. I'm not saying the game is bad in its current state. Its just that I think it would sell better if it had a unique part of it along with the formula itself.
I love you, Pontypants. This video clearly shows the true reason why and how a person should develop games - not only for the sake of a result, but also for the process itself (it's equally difficult and fun), and through practice, lots of it.
This game looks brilliant and I loved how you explained how you came together, especially with the water physics.
Im really glad a new game like this is coming out! There's been others like Jump King and Only Up and stuff but honestly a lot of these games just focus on the "hard" aspect of GOI but thats not what made it good, its because the movement was really fun, and you could really master it and feel in control, now with 40 hours in getting over it it feels totally natural to play, ill definitley be picking this up!
try I Am Bread. it's not about climbing as high as possible, but I'd still consider it a climbing game
I would also recommend Peaks of Yore. It’s the most realistic 3D climbing game I know and also not as frustrating as getting over it.
@@juli7649is it more realistic than new heights?
The art in this game is beautiful
Amazing to see a year of dev compressed and delivered so succinctly. Beautiful presentation and a great use of Unity :)
I laughed at the water clip when the person was swinging his hands in unison. At 5:28
Already on Twitch top 10 !! Let’s go ponty congrats !! Well deserved, can’t wait to lose mine with this one .
That's crazy, I was following you when you started the punch a bunch videos and had no idea you made this game too! You're really skilled dude nice work!
Genuinely looks super fun! Good job on finishing the project :D
This is so coool!! It's been awesome to watch you going from your first game, to making this high quality of a game! The look definitely feels like Getting Over It, but it's different lighting and color schemes make it look a little more modern and clean
Just want to say that your game and the making of video is incredibly inspiring to a lot of people out there!
Great job and enjoy the success :)

This video is amazing. Love to see you share your process. Good luck with the release!
the game looks gorgeous and you are super talented and hardworking, your passion for games inspiring me more and more to stick to game dev and do better games
1:30 BOOTY
GYAAAAAAAAT
I put my face in it
Oh I'm buying this for sure. Love to see a getting over it inspired game, which I think you have elevated to a genre
I played your game to completion and I must say as a game design major, you inspire me! Well done!
11:11 what if you made those little red things cogs you can turn which raises the water up slowly would make it alot cleaner. anyway looks very cool
10:28 It did make me mad ✅
I honestly love this kind of behind the scenes, making of the game content. Especially for 'simple rage games'. Your comedic timing is also excellent, NGL i love it.
6:22 yeah I though of making water like it too but mine looking a bit strange is the right word
5:18 😂 true lol with the flailing
Congrats you made prince of Persia. 12:43
you got an entire game theory about your game
you made it, great job man!
14:13 basically every how2basic video
Yeah
I think one of the best parts about getting over it was its narrator. Since your game lacks that and it would be pretty weird to just copy that, I think you need a different additional layer of originality to your game. Maybe with some dynamic, custom and original music library which should be as good as the game itself or maybe you could just add a completely distinct mechanic that makes the game more fun and your loss of progress more bearable. Otherwise it just feels like getting over it but without the narrator and people barely felt the need to not just ragequit after an hour with that game.
Yeah it doesn't have that unique factor about it
In my eyes, Getting Over It is a game about resilience in the face of adversity- but at the same time:
a multifaceted commentary on the disposable nature of digital content and the devaluation of growth in exchange for instant gratification.
But in his eyes, it's just "A difficult game about climbing"
kill me
For me personally the most fun and interesting part of Getting Over It was more so mastering the controls than the meta commentary, and clearly that feeling is what this game is going after, and there's nothing wrong with that, and I don't really think it needs to base its design off of how it'll be compared to Getting Over It like you suggest.
2:35 nah getting over it was actually very unique
I love you, Pontypants. This video clearly shows the true reason why and how a person should develop games - not only for the sake of a result, but also for the process itself (it's equally difficult and fun), and through practice, lots of it. Thanks a lot. This is something I've known for long, but only after watching this I finally got it right in my head. Now down to work.

W9aahhahaho
I’ve played this a couple days ago !

The rocks would have fallen if it was Caseoh
For the godot devs reading this. It´s gonna be ok, we will have another chance...
OG Fan here (I was here when you made the announcement trailer). I'm glad you finally made it! You're an inspiration to me man, and I just wanted you to know that being an aspiring game developer myself
Good luck
Ohhhh! Finally it's here! So cool! It looks so much fun! Good luck with the release! :))))
So you're the one responsible for another lengthy Markiplier lets play...
Thank you! I've missed the multiple part series, cosy content to watch with my girlfriend 💙

8:20 - best part, hands down.
I love how you made the swimming mechanics of this game so realistic
