Back with another look at the madness of 40K I'll try and get a couple of small bits out the start of this week as theres some new revelations that I want to talk about and also I have a question for you guys thats going to lead into YES the 3rd part of the Chaos Origins series, which I will be working on soon. Thanks for the big support as always more on the way very soon.
On the bright side, they tend to be unendingly calculating with how they use it. They probably won’t blow out Sol like a candle or squish Holy Terra between their fingers because that would likely boost chaos, and that would likely fuck over the Necron a bit.
@@georgg.5730 Nid truly are interesting in that regard. Orks sure grow large armies, but that is pretty much nothing compared to nids ability to turn biomass into living weapons. That's an interesting theory, that perhaps the imperium is actually 3 distinct civilizations. The mechanicus, the imperium, and the remnants of the men of iron who act as machine spirits unbeknownst to the other two. Equally as lost and diverted from their past as humanity if not more so. 40k never ceases to amaze me in the depth of it's world building.
I think that was by accident. It seems to me that lore was almost an afterthought. The overarching theme is original and very fertile. The fleshing-out of the universe had a weak and bumpy launch.
I'm hoping to see the Shadow In The Warp be mentioned by the Tyranids as it's a very powerful, if indirect, weapon that simply never gets any attention and I would love to see it more detailed so others can learn about how truly damaging and dangerous it is
How does the Shadow in the Warp work? It's not a like nulls because the nids are affected by nulls in the same way as psykers. So (and excuse the rough analogy) is it like negative numbers to normal psyker positive numbers? Like an opposite force the destructively interferes with normal psi force? Kinda new to 40k so apologies if it's a dumb question.
@@somethinglikethat2176 I'm not aware of any source that explicitly explains it, but it may exist, I don't know a lot of lore. From what I remember from 5th edition books and codices, they just say that the hivememind's warp presence is so great that it distorts the warp in a way that makes communication impossible.
@@somethinglikethat2176 From a very basic version, and I may be wrong here as it's been a few years: The Shadow In The Warp (I'm just going to cal it the Shadow from here on) is a null zone that follows the Tyranid hive fleets through space. It makes warp travel almost, if not, impossible through it by all races that use that method of transit. it makes it so the Astropathic Beacon is not present for Navigators to 'lock onto' also and totally disables all forms of astropathic communication within it's sphere of influence. The Tyranids can still travel freely through this as they don't actually use the warp as is described in @Luetin09 's videos detailing as such. This blanketing of space is done by the Tyranids Hive Mind and their psychic presence to control the Hive Fleets, even though the directing force may be many light years away. How rapid that communication/direction is transmitted is unknown as in, is there signal lag or is it instant via some unknown method? There are so many questions regarding the Hive Fleets and how they operate and organize at a galactic level (see Hive Fleet Behamoth and Kraken coming in at outer disc of teh galaxy and Leviathan taking the galaxy from 'below' and by the looks some of teh minor fleets are also hitting slightly from 'above' the galactic plane). The Shadow will also send most psychers eventually insane if they spend enough time within it due to the pressures of the Hive Mind as well as sometimes amplifying Tyranid and Genestealer hybrids powers though that was mentioned in some really old fluff somewhere so not too sure if that's still a thing? Now what I meant as it being an indirect weapon is it's teh ultimate 'salt the earth' thing. Warp transit is impossible in this Shadow, however it doesn't go away when teh Tyranids move onto another feeding ground or are wiped out. It persists for an unknown and, as far as I'm aware, unspecified length of time. Basically making even a victory against them a loss as the system is basically buggered for rebuilding, resupply or evacuation at a reliable level. The ships simply are unable to translate correctly or at all into the system, basically sealing it off from the rest of the greater galaxy, for better or worse. There are races that do not use the warp to travel, like Necrons and I THINK Tau so they would be basically unaffected by this. Interestingly these are the two races that are psychically dead too. Lots of stuff to detail and I feel worthy of a mention and the long term damage would be much greater than that of almost any other weapon around except Chaos and even then that's questionable as a Hive Fleet only has to enter the Sol system to basically turn off the Astronomicon for a period, win or lose. Then...hello Dark Age Mk2. The Imperium is no longer able to travel reliably in teh warp and literally trillions die, worlds burn and the Imperium basically collapses. Choas to do that must WIN in Sol and take Terra, they Tyranids simply have to show up in sufficient numbers...oh and Leviathan is pretty close to Terra too...sooo...
@MonsieurHiroshima I never mentioned any harm to the Emporer, just that it would blanket the Astropathic Beacon and if not snuff it out for a time, it would mute it's effects and make Imperial warp travel much harder and perilous. This also proves teh point that it needs more details. And yes, Nids travel sub light using Nautilus scout ships to find prey areas for the fleets to travel to. The effects of this damage your describing was in teh 5th edition codex IIRC..or possibly 4th? But yes that is correct, the mere presence of them in system fucks teh system up. Maybe then not just the Shadow being a topic but the Shadow and Tyranid presence in system would be a better one, doing them both as they are kinda one and the same, can't have one without the other so to speak? EDIT: And yes with teh Tau they are psychicly 'dead' thus have zero understanding of how the warp works and have very very little impact on the warp itself and use another means of space trasite (which I can't remember as Tau are my least favorite race so I kinda just gloss over their finer points)
I always preferred the idea that the Eldar was created for the purpose of creating the Eldar Gods, who were the actual weapons the old ones wanted, and that the Eldar themselves were just an intermediate step. To me this nicely ties into why they were so well suited to creating a Chaos God.
"The Golden Age of Mankind has come and gone" Why I love 40k. The sense of mystery and the ever ending possibility of there being something bigger badder meaner out there.
Makes you wonder why E didn't lead them when they were at their peak. I have two theories; 1) he actually did but couldn't prevent the fall and the Imperium is attempt 2.0 2) they were far more enlightened and scientific so one glowy boy stepping up to become a super-dictator wasn't received that well
@@boooster101 if Mankind was experiencing a golden age of advancement and prosperity then why would Big E feel the need to step up? Humanity was doing fine without him. He didn't step up when Humanity was prospering, he stepped up when Humanity needed a shining light to guide them through the darkness
@@PyrusFlameborn They've completely retconned the Emperor from being this enlightened leader. He's basically just some guy named Neoth who took a bunch of stuff everyone else did, was a total jackass to everyone, and got killed off. He was just some loser perpetual until the unification wars, where he didn't even unify the whole planet. The Horus Heresy and Soege of Terra books pretty clearly outline that his only ability is he is a good psyker, everything else was either someone else's work or a lie
A favorite weapon of mine is the archeotech nanyte blaster, from what i understand it is a regular sized pistol that shoots bullets containing nanytes (nanomachines) that disintegrate anything they come into contact with and has the potential to cause a chain reaction from one target to another. It's a favorite of mine because unlike most super weapons that are the size of warships and giant citadel space stations, it's just a dinky pistol in the hand of some oily tech priest. I remember reading some lore where an ancient tech priest used a nanyte blaster to completely eradicate a full terminator squat that was out to get him. Like imagine that, A FULL TERMINATOR SQUAD. Unless you are a demigod or something close pretty much nothing can stop that force, well except for that one oily tech priest and his dinky pistol.
The humans in the dark age of technology sound incredibly powerful, could they have eventually have surpassed the Eldar in tech had things not gotten so effed up?
Can't remmember exactly where i read but they actually did have a fight with the eldar but got curb stomped, like horribly but there not much more information about it from that. There is an interesting theory that dark age man made the pariah gene for the purpose of helping the next fight against the eldar. As for surpasing i'll post something i put up earlier "it is interesting, you could say the necrons were masters of the material universe, eldar the masters of the immeterium where as the humans, while not as powerful in either field but strode a great line between in. I have my own personal theory that the reason the Mechanicus abhors xenotech from a philosophical level is because of this dichotomy. when you worship knowledge and the gathering of it something that leads to technological dead ends, only material or only material it makes sense you'd teach your peoples to despise that. It also goes to another teaching they have, the knowledge of the ancients is not reproachable, they saw the limitless potential of melding both material and immaterial tech." so i think given enough time humankinds unique tech could of been the equal to, or surpass both but alas they were cut down before they could achieve it, even if it would of taken hundreds of thousands of years to do it.
@@boone4077 eldar had 60 million years and there tech handed to them i doubt they innovated much just mastered what they had human built from scratch and we only got that perspective from the eldar so it kind of biased
They did surpass them... we built time travel ships and AI which the Eldar didn’t... it’s just unlike them, the humans were not singularly directed, or organised. We were more about exploration and trade etc. Didn’t even have a unified military or government.
Super vague as to how powerful Dark Age of Tech Man was. But humanity was so powerful at that time that both Orks and Eldar had treaties of peace with them. Also the Eldar had some mind blowing technology, they had these giant factories that could fabricate warships with warp energy and make armies en'masse. (It got corrupted by chaos though).
I was thinking the other day, where's all the floating space debris from 40+ years of battle between empire and the rebels in SW. You'd think systems would be dangerously soups of lugnuts and scrap hurling around at speeds that would smash through anything. Instead, Warhammer has this reality. It might even be a colossal abandoned ship. Or fleets of them. Litter is damaging everywhere. We can't even leave our planet now without these worries.
The interessting part of the Blackstone-Fortresses for me was always that they kinda look like the 8-pointed Star of Chaos when they are "open". It would think it's just a coincidence or that the Design was made first without consulting the Lore for it. About all the Weapons presented here though, the coolest for me is the STC - Dark Age - Weapons/Technology. Somthing that is meantioned is that the old Human Federation or whatever it was called, had contact and treaties with Xenos. This leads me to belive not all of the Ideas that went into it are from Humans, but also Aliens.
i don't think the 8 pointed star is a emblem of "Chaos" as much as it's an emblem of the immaterium. Chaos uses it because they are the immaterium made manifest.
God if that church was looted by the traitorous scums then I hope they'd manage to hide the relics as well. Because if they did, then those would be a vital importance for the restoration of our great emperor.

compared to the other horrifying dark weaponry, mankinds dark age tech is the most creative and insane weaponry compared to stuff like the eldar or necrons have. the other races seem to stick to their best discipline for their most devastating weapons but human tech seemed to combine the best advantages of multiple disciplines at once
it is interesting, you could say the necrons were masters of the material universe, eldar the masters of the immeterium where as the humans, while not as powerful in either field but strode a great line between in. I have my own personal theory that the reason the Mechanicus abhors xenotech from a philosophical level is because of this dichotomy. when you worship knowledge and the gathering of it something that leads to technological dead ends, only material or only material it makes sense you'd teach your peoples to despise that. It also goes to another teaching they have, the knowledge of the ancients is not reproachable, they saw the limitless potential of melding both material and immaterial tech.
@@boone4077 actually the necrons mastered the immaterial as well, they just cant use it the same way. The necrons basically have mastery of all the technology of the necrontyr, c'tan and old ones on their side. They even created the dolmen gates to allow them to use the webways which normally can only be accessed using psykers. Necrons in the lore are hands down the most powerful faction. Not a single other faction even comes close. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the tabletop.....
@@zanplays5308 good info didnt know about the doleman gates, been quiet a while since i looked at necron tech. My main factions drukhari and their techs just plain bloody weird and esoteric eith explinations ranging from "we think they got it via" to "i dont know torture machine goes brrrr". Mandrakes are particularily weird
@@boone4077 yeah drukhari tech is weird but theirs is definitely one of the most interesting. I love the whole alchemy theme they have to them. Ps. Another bit of necron tech that shows their mastery of the immaterial is the pillars. They raise these pillars that surpress the warp in a very large radius. Apparently if they raise and activate enough of these pillars, they have the power to completely severe the warp from the material universe which is also the goal of some dynasties. It'll be interesting to see if their plans mske it to fruition as the entrie 40k universe would basically become a post apocalyptic world where no one but the Necron and T'au are uneffected and even that is questionable as the T'au fast travel by bouncing into the warp. Not sure if they'd still be able to after the pillars are raised. I'm curious of your thoughts on this.
I remember my reaction the first time i saw the Impirial Fist Phalanx eat a black stone fortress "WAIT THATS THE PHALANX I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A SHIP" Battlefleet Gothic armada 2 was amazing KADIA NEVER FELL
in the lore both of them are in fact even larger and stronger. Obviously, the game has to scale down stuff to, you know, BE PLAYABLE. However, the simple fact that the phalanx can take a hit from a PLANETARY DESTROYING SUPERWEAPON and shrug it off is a testament to the sons of dorn
Rogal Dorn did’t build the Phalanx, it is another Dark Age of Technology Relic. I think he just made it function again or something though, can’t remember.
Ema Russo Yes the Phalanx is a DAOT relic but the Imperial Fists still haven’t managed to make it fully operational. A big part of it it’s still non operational because the knowledge is lost on how to make it work.
28:54 " The celestial Orrey is perhaps the last of the Truely powerful relics from most ancient history" That is very optimistic even for Humans standardts XD
I worked out the real world energy of just a single standard issue imperial cruiser macro cannon using some numbers I'd worked backwards from some references in BFG to calculate. The bore on a macrocannon is about 50m. Assuming a roughly spherical shell of something like iron this gives a mass of about 45,000 tonnes. The macrocannon shot fires up to 40km on a matter of seconds (about 2.5% the speed of light). When you put this together (ignoring relativity which is reasonably for 2.5% the speed of light) you get a power output for each macrocannon shot of about 10^21 Joules. Roughly the total solar energy that his the earth in an hour or ten times the total petroleum reserves of the planet.
@@somethinglikethat2176 He's literally Rambo, just a fair bit more badass. Catachan jungle fighter hero. It's been well over a decade since I played the board game, but from what I remember, you could plop him down just about anywhere because camouflage master, he had a gun that could one-shot (darts dipped in Catachan neurotoxins) almost anything and when you were done with him, just remove him from the table (i.e. he slipped back into the undergrowth and exfiltrated without leaving a single trace). No points awarded to the opponent. TL:DR unkillable super assassin.
I didn't get the corruption of chaos until I read fulgrim, the arc following the remembrancers showed the sneaking subtly of it, simply seeing a beautiful place that had a measure of chaotic energy caused them to slowly descend into total insanity in their efforts to show that beauty in their artworks
The book "Fulgrim" ABSOLUTELY blew my expectations away and started my reading the Horus Heresy from Book 1 onward. The detail and expert writing FULLY brought me to and into the 40k universe. I've been a fan ever since.
That Necron Orrery sounds fascinating and terrifying. I’m glad the Necrons are so calculating and careful, otherwise they would’ve tried to blow out Sol like a candle, and wound up boosting Chaos in the process.
Honestly Luetin, you have become the voice of 40k narration for me. I would honestly listen to you narrate 40k audiobooks, your formal and quick (but not too quick) speech combined with your ability to create visual depth with descriptions is exactly what I need when I want to hear 40k, and as much as I love the books Audible has almost all of them on there, but I feel the narrator's were chosen for their deep gruff sounding voices when yours is much more pleasing on the ears. You should honestly try and link up with Audible to do something like that Luetin, I know I and many others would purchase your narrations.
I think one of my favorite wargear from the table top for being stupidly strong in the lore is the Tachyon Arrow. Would be fun for a small segment in the next episode
Sir I can’t tell you how much I look forward to your videos. I don’t play the game but you make the lore so much more interesting than it already is. If it wasn’t for you I would have never found my love and curiosity for the 40k. You’ve given me hours of entertainment from your content alone, not counting all the info I look up after hearing your videos. Thank you so much.
How about greenskins weapons? The fact that their weapons grow in strength with their WAAAAGH makes it quite strong. Just look at the war of the beast and the war moons or WAAAGH! Gratzdakka and his PSI Gargant (like the Psi Titans of the imperium made by the emperor himself)
This is why I love warhammer 40k. When you described the timephasing blackhole STC weapon, I was simultaneously laughing at its absurdity and just feeling in awe!
I give this video a thumbs up before I have even started watching it. For I saw the title, “40K's most insane & powerful weapons”, then I saw it was 45 minutes long. And then I saw that subtitle that says “part one”. Perfect, just perfect.
these badass videos are getting me through stage 4 quarantine in melbourne being stuck inside 22 hours everyday isnt that bad if you still have warhammer 40k
I also remember when the D weapons had the "remove the model, the warp doesn't care about your stats" rule and I think you could just lob the damn thing out to see if it drifted close enough to delete a model in the earlier editions before that but its been many a moon and I may not remember perfectly.
I've been doing 10 hour drives between redding california and san diego california for business and your vids have been a god send. Love that this channel has gone full 40k, when I started you were still doing battlefield stuff and I've never played that before lol.
I always thought an Astarte forgetting their past life was more of a side effect of their transformation than a deliberate act. It was never explicitly mentioned as being part their transition except for the Grey Knights.
Chaos corruption cover-up Am I the only one picturing then scene from the naked gun with Leslie Nelson standing in front of the exploding fireworks factory saying nothing to see here, everything is completely normal, and nothing to see here ( as chaos lightning and bolter explosions are going off in the background)
The Webber is the most insane... because it's insane that anyone ever uses non-lethal force in a universe as horrendous as 40k. (Heck, it'd make more sense as a Dark Eldar weapon used for slave-gathering!)
Once again, sir, well done! I enjoy the little bits of lore you add to add more prominence to each weapon. The STC's in general are such a wide and fascinating subject, it's hard not to have them on the list. Keep making these! You've found your purpose for the Emperor!
I would imagine to most, the forces of 'chaos' aren't even referred to as such. Because that would validate them, giving them power. To most they would be little more then brigands and rebels, whos corruption and alien contamination serving as proof of the imperial propaganda.
I find the aspect of the chaos corruption cool where the affected ones doesn’t recognise that they are corrupted like in the Book „Mephiston revenant crusade” you should read it it’s really interesting.

One has to wonder how the other Eldar were reacting to seeing the Mon-keigh destroy their allies with the Speranza's 'fuck around and find out' tier weaponry.
they were in an isolated part of the galaxy, with the eldar winning the battle and the eldar ship wasn't even destroyed, it was met again later in the series and the only damage it had was in the sails
Luetin09 I'd love for you to go through some of the interesting stories and lore of the different astartes groups (Ultramarines, Salamanders, White Scars, Space Wolves, etc). I know it would probably take a lot of time, but I'm sure all of us would love it! Keep up the fantastic work!
The fact that the ship is called the Hope (Speranza) really tickled me. Haven't heard of a lot of these tbh so it's really interesting to hear! good work as always hon
Another simple weapon is "will of the emperor". This is so widely interpreted by a wide variety of people with all kinds of power that can lead to the death of millions.
"The Daemon has many forms. You must know them all. You must tell the Daemon from his disguise and root him out from the hidden places. Trust no-one. trust not even yourself. It is better to die in vain than to live an abomination. The zealous martyr is praised for his valour: the craven and the unready are justly abhorred." The First Book of Indoctrinations
"Smash the Like button if it were the face of Dorn and you're an angry Iron Warrior" was the motivation I needed to go about my day. SIEGE! SIEGE! SIEGE! SIEGE!
Man, I wish the Esperanza phenomena happens back later on the current course of 40k lore and stories. Imagine what happened to the Esperanza happened to The Phalanx, Emperor knows that would be beyond amazing.
I remember having a lone-surviving wraithguard one-shotting a full strength greater demon of Khorne off a 6. Lost the game but I always remember that moment of awesomeness. I'm also reminded of Dire Swords and how they had a similar effect.
I rember an instant where a lone guardsman of my oponent singlehandedly fucked up my greater demon of khorne in meele. Third edition.. good times haha xD
I've always enjoyed the absurd weapons of each universe, be it an RPG system, Tabletop Game, or so on. I've seen systems that have had weapons that wouldn't just destroy the world as is, but it in the past for the past few hundred years, or another that would coat every single bit of a surface with a maelstrom of energy that would shred it without any chance of dodging and would simply shred the target, and then another which is a death star the size of a light humvee which is a land vehicle. The idea that someone would design anything with this much power and effects just amazes me, to the point that I just question why anyone, including myself, would make these and then finding the reasoning behind its conception.
thanks for bringing me into the 40K world. I've read about 12 books in the last few months, more or less on the back of watching some of your videos...(and.... maybe astartes...). I'm a sucker for good 'lore,' I can't believe i've taken this long to discover 40K
In defense of the change to D-weapons, it's a silly change when looked at in a vacuum, but it makes a lot more sense when you consider the fact that it''s part of the eldar army of all things - you've got a weapon that can feasibly oneshot anything in a hypermobile army that could fairly easily position a squad with said weapon(s) just about anywhere they wish, instantly deleting a given target before (most likely) getting shot in the faces 700 times. It's an ideal weapon for alpha striking, which is a tactic that GW has been steadily trying to discourage over the years, because it kind of kills the fun of the game when you're halfway through turn 1 and you already know you've lost.
I’ve noticed that tabletop/lore comparison. Like how a Necron warrior who is described as being incredibly well protected, with armour that could easily shrug off bolter rounds or lascannons. And then they have the same health as an Imperial Guardsman, and will get one-shot by basically anything
Lore daddy back again with a great videa, thank you ! And yes, list Videos are amazing, especially when you take your time to talk a bit more about the respective topics!
I would be remiss not to convey my gratitude towards you and your channel. From what I remember from 5th edition books and codices, they just say that the hivememind's warp presence is so great that it distorts the warp in a way that makes communication impossible.
@@somethinglikethat2176 From a very basic version, and I may be wrong here as it's been a few years:
The Shadow In The Warp (I'm just going to cal it the Shadow from here on) is a null zone that follows the Tyranid hive fleets through space.
The tyranids are the key to destroying chaos

Can't remmember exactly where i read but they actually did have a fight with the eldar but got curb stomped, like horribly but there not much more information about it from that. 28:54 " The celestial Orrey is perhaps the last of the Truely powerful relics from most ancient history"
That is very optimistic even for Humans standardts XD

Man, imagine if the Imperium had the Celestial Orrery - it'd be a mighty empty galaxy, huh?
Might work if Tyranids win the war.
This is the best channel to paint to.
thanks for bringing me into the 40K world.
