My boyfriend grew up with this series. I would never play the game but the story sounded great. Being a researcher, I immediately went to UA-cam and searched as many 40k lore videos to explain it. Out of all the ones I watched, Leutin's were the best I'd seen. The intro, graphics, details and voice were amazing and I was hooked. Now, my boyfriend and I have conversations about the characters. I agree with another post, you should be part of writing a 40k series. Seriously though, well done.

But you are right, Leutin is the best of everyone I've encountered on UA-cam. And except for some editing needed in the scripts to avoid repetition, it is all very professional. The Emperor could repair machinery with a single touch, or he knew that you turn a machine on by hitting the on button rather than praying to it and slathering it with incense and "holy" oil.
Probably something like matter to warp energy transfiguration. He probably knew how it worked, then transmuted its broken form back into a working form.
I love the idea that there are 'broken' Titans, STC's and god/Emperor knows what else that have entire Temples full of Tech Priests devoted to venerating them in the hope that one day they will bless them with their mechanical prowess and meanwhile there's an on/off switch on the side which is set to "off" and covered in sacred baubles. With how the Imperium works, this could actually be the entire issue for half of their lost technology XD
They only did this because there was the possibility of an attack on Terra which they where ill-prepared for, so attempting to retake mars where the value of mars was its factories and was in such a state that these factories would not produce any goods for 100s of years. The cost/benefit was not there. They did loot forge cities for power armour but took notable losses which showed they could ill afford to retake the world. Even though they could more than likely take the world back particularly when there where loyalist cities still holding out.
I don't even play this shit but these videos are so good. It's insane how in-depth and broad the lore is, I love hearing about the history of this universe.
My friend got me into 40K by just telling me lore for hours on end during a road trip to keep me awake while driving about three years ago. Since then, I've been watching a shitton of these videos and reading the books. Probably won't ever play the game, but I just love this universe to death.
The lore is the best thing about the game. If you don't play it, you can always enjoy the near endless lore and backstory. I have to give maximum props to the writers. They've been building an entire universe for decades.
It sounds silly until the dishwasher gets mad that the inferiour fleshlings have stopped paying it its due obedience for the work it does and massacres the entire household.
They don't simply "pray" they insert consecrated commands into the debug menu of the machine that they don't really understand anymore. The incense is there to show reverence etc. They do basically what old people do when they are fixing computers :D
I cannot WAIT to watch this!! Luetin, your 40k videos are some of the highest quality videos on UA-cam, and that is no exaggeration. You make it so fascinating with such a cool atmosphere. Thank you for all the hard work!
Dont mean to piggyback but I always wanted a lead into this verse and its lore. It is good that there someone who can present this lore in a coherent digestible manner. Beyond Great Work!
Ngl I loved the games but I didn’t get the lore. I looked up vids and soooo many other youtubers are fucking boring. Luetin has the highest quality and best warhammer vids hands down. Got me so into the universe I love every vid and every minute of them. Love binge watching these
We believe the Emperor is the Omnisiah, hooked up to all of those machines, His Spirit has no other place to go than thru the Virtual World and across the Stars. His body shines as a Physical Beacon from the future and a Spiritual Beacon from 0AD in our past. The Emperor of Mankind is, was, and is to come now and forever. So be it.
The Mechanicus is actually really interesting from the perspective that they sorta half emulate some of the ideals of some greek philosophers and even later theologians around the idea of a "divine logic" of sorts. That the rules and forces of our universe (basically physics) are the single and greatest truth there is and is by proxy proof of divine will. And that we can only gain an understanding from a deep study of it through mathematics. Which reflects in the Mechanicus in that they worship technology and by also sorta logic as a vast force that weaves through everything. And on a certain level they arn't wrong, both machines and biology function on the same physics as everything else, just measuring down the exact lets say the "blue prints" of a human is Emperor only knows how much more messy.
Isaac Newton comes to mind as a religious man that also studied alchemy and tried to invent the philosopher's stone. It makes enough sense, if a god exists, then the laws of physics are the creation of said god and the study of them is, by extention, like reading the bible, the Koran or prayer
I have a co-worker that got me started into this. We sell merchandise from WH and he is listening to the stories; I found your channel and yours is the best introduction to this world. I am totally into this now, not so much the games, but the stories are amazing. Thanks for your work and effort in putting this out.
"Okay, so this Emperor guy comes along and claims he will respect our religion and our autonomy, but I don't trust him because he's an atheist. Now his son, who is clearly in service to some pantheon of dark gods, which goes against my belief in a single Machine God, is staging a coup and making the exact same promises as his father. Yeah, I can totally trust him." ... I'msorrywhat?
@@danieledstrom5777 Much easier to relate to someone who believes but hasn't heard your version, compared to someone who knows your version but rejects it.
I think that there may have been a bit of the ol' "do as I say, not as I do" going on in the old Mechanicum. The ones who were open to advancing their personal knowledge and power turned traitor over bribes and left behind the fundamentalist "Follow these rules or die, no exceptions." types at the end of the Heresy.
The maschine spirt is a always depressed ki which does not want to do anything without the right rituals to cheer it up. So they will never be motivated again to evolve themselves or do something themselves. Like marvin from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
machine spirits are ai but there very limited ans simple in comparison its like how mass effect defines a AI from VI which the machines spirits seem to be virtual intelligences
@@wilmagregg3131 what we now have is AI, smartphones, video games, computers, traffic lights, the electricity grid, etc. all run on it. So it's a bad distinction. Not to mention that the 40k universe did not present the real divide between weak and strong AI with the story of the men of iron hunting at a sentient revolution of weak AI. And though that's impossible that means that any weak AI should have revolted by then. Hence why it makes no sense.
no i mean the spirits used b the mechnicum as operating systems are ai but of small animal intelligence and no capacity for higher thought or growth my example is the machine spirits of titans that adopt wolf like traits but never have anything near thoughts of art or self or self improvement
@@wilmagregg3131 what you describe is a strong AI. there's nothing stopping it from gaining sentience at that point, especially after millennia of operation and self improvement. Hell a decade would be enough.
Luetin09 this is some amazing work mate. You're professionalism and detail is astounding. I have told my 40k mates about you and they're all now subscribers to your glorious channel. Looking forward to your next video lad.
I read somewhere, I forgot where it just stuck with me, that the Men of Iron and other machines turned against humanity because the Eldar wished to remain the most advanced species not wanting to share with one as young as Humans so they deliberately did something that caused the event. They made the world a worse place at lest twice, perhaps such could be a topic for another presentation?
Think you're right, Eldar and humans dont absoutely hate each other as a whole race but want to out do each other and think of the other as lesser therefore still fight etc Also some humans are bred thinking all xenon are evil therefore they class elder in the same bracket as other xenos I'm new to this thi
Only just past the Men of Iron part, and I just have to comment: I've seen in several places (including some of the W40k-focused channels on here) that the rise of the machines was not a big event. And I just CAN'T agree with that. Even before I learned in this video of the planet-destroying technology that they had, it's pretty obvious that a civilization integrating AI and technology so heavily into daily life would be absolutely devastated if the machines suddenly decide to go to war. Sure, it might not have been a long war, compared to the 41st millennium's ongoing slaughter, but even a short war can be significant and devastating.
well I never am one for getting things perfect, but all I can say about it though has shown it to be a massive event that absolutely ruined humanity so yeah.
I don't even remember who may have said it, it might've been a long time ago. But still, it could be that someone said it who didn't really understand what the 'bots were capable of. And there's waaaaay too many vids on Warhammer 40k here to start sifting through them one by one in short order. XD
@@Luetin09 What I don't get is why the Emperor didn't step forward right then and there to prevent that collapse. Why allow so much to be lost forever, and 5,000 years of living in squalor and ignorance amid the ruins?
So, without a centralized group to record the history, much would have been lost. The Emperor had not yet revealed himself, so the details of such events would be woefully missing from mainstream history. For example, history textbooks about American history are largely lacking the finer details of the Manifest Destiny period. Some books remain, but these will in centuries to come fade into obscurity and the history forgotten. Remember, if the event was hugely catastrophic, writers would be concerned with eating and warmth rather than books and knowledge. This is the same process which deprived men of their technological progress. In 40k, we are only beginning to claw our way out of a centuries long dark age. The Renaissance is not yet to come, and when it does I expect history will be more available and lore plentiful.
@@IrishCarney it's my headcanon that the emperor who is pretty much a walking talking stc database just let the age of strife happen waiting for the perfect opportunity to do the greatest power grab in the universe.
I would say these are the most thrilling, thorough and high quality lore videos for Warhammer 40,000 I have ever seen in my years in Terra. You do a excellent job at immersing me into the the universe, I feel like I’m listening to a codex or servitor read me ancient texts of humanity and it’s amazing ❤️
A servitor? Did you mean to compare the videomaker to a lobotomized cyborg with no real agency, merely reading the words of a text verbatim at the whims of the master that chopped out their personhood?
If you are interested to see how the game is played, the best channel I could find is Tabletop tactics. They break down abilities, weapons, troops, game modes, and other aspects before the start of the game. It is very cool to watch in action.

Despite some arguing that, "40k is in High and Low Gothic, NOT Latin!" I agree. We should standardize grammatic or etymological conventions in 40k to Latin until 40k has the ability to conventionalize itself. What if, like Tolkien's Middle-Earth, the writers had contructed the language of the universe first, then the beings that spoke them, followed by extensive and intricate geneologies? Then any deviations from Latin would be too legit to quit. And THEN we could tell people who say, "uhhh, guess the writers never took Latin cause, its supposed to be '-icus' here, and '-icum' there" "Uhhh, I guess YOU never took Gothic..."
It's just a latinish language because they needed some dead language. Neither is low gothic actually english (or the observers language in general), nor is high gothic actually latin. Both are stand-ins so the outside obsever can understand anything at all.
I think it is pretty clear that High Gothic is not supposed to be actual literal Latin. In our real world Western context, Latin sounding words give the impression of an ancient and venerable language. So these Cod-Latin words in the text are just meant to stand in, to the reader, for the ancient high prestige language of High Gothic. In the same way that standard English is meant to stand in for the vernacular Low Gothic. The English used obviously has to use the correct grammar and vocabulary so that the reader understands what the hell is going on. But there is no need for the cod Latin to follow the real grammar and vocab of Latin so long as the reader gets the general impression of Latin and its associated connotations. In terms of what this means for how we should pronounce what we read, I would say the general approach would be to just make it sound as Latin-ish as possible, but not to get too bogged down in precise detail.
@@basstedson It is true that civilisational break down is how High Gothic becomes Low Gothic. But I am not sure how this relates to the OP’s comment about us using Latin vs fake Latin in the English language texts. I mean, in the real world, Latin has already “broken down”, or evolved, into several different Romance languages, so I assume you don’t mean the reason incorrect Latin is used in the books is because by M41 Latin has broken down? I’m a bit confused…

I'm building Anacharis Scoria and then I see this video.... perfect! Thanks so much for this 👍🏻 By the way, I liked your use of the short section of Holst's Mars, Bringer of War in the intro ;)
Not only is your content incredibly articulate and the best in Warhammer 40k youtube, but I find it extremely engaging. I deeply enjoyed watching all your videos when I discovered them, but sometimes I'm playing games and I would like to have them play in the background...yet I find I actually can't. The work you put in to the presentation itself I find to be so strong, I end up actually feeling it a waste to merely listen to it. Your video format and meticulousness alone is spectacular. That's pretty nuts.
Don’t forget, the Caban surprisingly used its incredible Machine Spirit/AI to cleanse an entire forge temple clean of Scrapcode in mere moments around the time when the Chaos Forces were entering the utmost edge of the Sol System.
Man, I’m so happy I found your channel. I knew nothing about 40k before I started watching your videos but the way you describe things and lay it out got me hooked. I now know so much more about 40k lore and am hungry for more. Love listening to these videos as I fall asleep
This is my second viewing of this and I think it is the finest 40K lore video on the net. The picture quality as well as narration is top notch and the research behind it was very good. Good job!

I can say with confidence that your lore videos capture the epicness and the scale of this universe like no other! awesome work man, THOROUGHLY good stuff! I think I've watched your videos on the Emperor of Man and the Betrayal of Horus about 10 times each and they do wonders for my creativity, it's like a condensed audiobook :D
I was hesitant to watch your older videos, since most youtubers improve over time. I was pleasantly surprised by the continual high standard of information, production(especially audio) and pacing of the storylines intertwined. Kudos, you have my appreciation!
I enjoyed the switch from Holst’s “Jupiter: Bringer Of Jollity” to “Mars: Bringer of War” at the beginning. Especially the fact that the hopeful strains of Jupiter sounded so fragile as played by a music box, only to be snuffed out by war. Very appropriate for 40k.
Hey luetin09 thank you. These amazing story’s and outlines are what I like most. Even more than most the GW books. During hard times this/ your videos have gotten me threw. The time you invested doing pictures with it is so appreciated. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen asleep to your voice taking me on this journey , then me waking up to your voice 12 videos down hahha . Thank you. You have helped more than you know. You have helped more people get into the 40k universe than anything ! This has been my favorite part of 40k for years . I listen to audiobooks but always come back to these .
I like the idea that Machine Spirits are automationed systems combined with proper power rating and circuit type. Like trying to use a wire rated to 2ohm on a circuit rated for 3ohm would anger the machine spirit, but it actually just makes the wire overheat and melt. Or if you accidentally put an electrical surge through a built in computer in a vehicle your cruise control could go out.
They wouldn't do jack shit. The inquisition as fanatical as they are understand just how god damn important the mechanicus is to the preservation of the imperium. It also wouldn't be the first time the inquisition tolerated heresy either. Considering how some inquisitors literally enslave daemons for some of their missions I wouldn't ber surprised the if the inquisiton just ignored the truth and continue to let the mechanicus do what they want so long as they still provide weaponry and supplies to the forces of man.
This is, for me, one of the best videos I have watched. I love the amount of time and effort you put into your videos. This 40k series has been amazing. Your attention to detail and professional narration really makes this great. Long may it last! Mechanicus Deus

So the emperor killed a dragon in mellinum 2. So probably about 500-1000 years ago in reality. I love how it's made so the he could have been a dragon slayer or god from actual mythology.
No shit. Why point that out? I watched the video, you know. I was just saying that I like how he and his actions are based of actual real life mythology.
Anti-Federalist 1776 'Head Canon' is basically picking and choosing, accepting and rejecting elements of the universe to build your own vision of the larger story. Universes like 40k, Star Wars etc have a massive sprawling universes with decades worth of material. A lot of that material refute/contradict each other making it hard to nail down one cohesive story. For example Star Wars official canon portrays General Grievous as inept and cowardly. I'm not a fan of that so I reject that part of the story in favour of the non-canon 2003 Grievous where he was a lightsaber collecting beast who went 1v6 against a group of Jedi including 2 masters and utterly destroyed them.
Anti-Federalist 1776 It's not 'making shit up' it's replacing existing pieces you don't like with other existing pieces that you do. I was just replying to a four word question. I'm not getting into a debate with an overly aggressive nerd about shit I don't care about. Fuck you and good day.

[see's Luetin09's new 40k Lore vid thumbnail] Well who needs sleep anyway! Great video, ever since you mentioned the Tech Priest of Mars in your Imperium of Man videos I've been itching for an in-depth explanation of what and who they are. The more 40k lore vids I see, the more of a fascination I have to learn more. Don't care if it's 2 in the morning, it was worth it.
I've read so many Warhammer novels over the years and have watched a lot of Warhammer Fantasy/30K/40K vids and I thought I knew all of the good channels and to be honest I didn't think anyone could impress me anymore the way you just did. Great video! Love learning lore about this universe. This is extremely gonna help me as I am starting to play some of the warhammer RPGs. I do a ton of roleplay but as a game master and a player I have been trying to get my foot into this world and videos like this make that job a lot more easier. Though I still have much to learn I appreciate the time and effort you put into this video and clearing up many questions I had at least about the adeptus mechanicus and mars. As a player a tech-priest as my first (and only) character so I love knowing more about my people. As someone who will hopefully game master soon I also got a few plot hooks from this video I could pull on. I also looked up some of the new terms and people you mentioned and expanded my knowledge that way as well, though you were pretty thorough with everything. Thank you, and keep up the good work! :D
I feel like this show affected me a lot as a kid without me realising it - if you want to talk about story pace. I've never been a Warhammer guy, one of my mates is and he lent me some books a few years back with Ragnar and Horus Rising. I'll be honest, I thought they were very poorly written, but perhaps that's just me and my penchant for pontificating. But these videos that explore the universe that's been created in a more intellectual and immersive way have got me utterly captivated. I know this comment just basically shat all over some peoples obsession, but this guys videos are actually getting me into something that I previously considered to be a simple board game. That's gotta be worth sumthin right?
Anytime I watch one of your 40k videos that discuss the fall of man due to the separation of planets and imports, I'm reminded of the fall of Bronze Age Egypt. So much so that it starts to make me think that Games Workshop used the fall of Bronze Age Empires as the template for the Dark Age of the Imperium. Bronze Age Egypt government was excessively centralized and once that central authority was lost, it became impossible for the simplest things to function. As an example: even farming no longer functioned as farmers were instructed what and when and how to plant their crops. Farmers didn't have the knowledge themselves of how farming functioned, it was all controlled by centralized authority.
Thanks for all these great videos! I have always been interested in WH40k and these videos have been super fun while recovering from surgery. I'm going to pick up and try painting a tech priest as soon as I feel better!

It's funny to note that these intances of "praying" is literally just reading the damn manual. Applying consecrated oils is simply lubrication.

And THEN we could tell people who say, "uhhh, guess the writers never took Latin cause, its supposed to be '-icus' here, and '-icum' there"
"Uhhh, I guess YOU never took Gothic..."
It's just a latinish language because they needed some dead language. Neither is low gothic actually english (or the observers language in general), nor is high gothic actually latin. Both are stand-ins so the outside obsever can understand anything at all.
This misses the point entirely, humanity was so broken by the age of strife it's language fell apart .
Lol
Tolkien still uses Roman months to count how many full moons there in a year.

I keep listening to this one over and over again while studying for my EE and CS finals. I think it's fitting.
"Green Ultra-Violence" just sums up the Orks perfectly.
This is, for me, one of the best videos I have watched. I love the amount of time and effort you put into your videos.
This 40k series has been amazing. Your attention to detail and professional narration really makes this great.
Long may it last!
Mechanicus Deus
I am 20 videos into this series (62 in the playlist right now). I cannot get enough! Keep them coming, this is the best stuff to listen to while I am working :D Also, suggestion for a video, how the the WH40K video games fit into the lore, what they get right, what they get wrong, etc.
Arthur, King of the Britons slew a dragon at one point.
@Anti-Federalist 1776 All of the above = Head-canon. :3
Thanks for posting these. I've never played Warhammer 40k but I'm having so much fun just going through all of these lore videos. Really great stuff!
Never ever played the game but yday in a warhammer shop I held my own talking about all of luetins knowledge. Awesome
This was a pretty long video *BUT* such a dope one to watch. Thanks for putting all of the work you did into this, Luetin, this is a fantastic story to listen to (and watch)
"Angry chap, calm down later."
lol
Like that, but not like that
People say that, I say, “Read til the end of the book.”
Just got off work (11pm) and decided to get on my computer to check my work schedule for tomorrow just before I go to sleep. Schedule says I have to wake up early for work tomorrow... [see's Luetin09's new 40k Lore vid thumbnail]
Well who needs sleep anyway!
Your channel was a pleasant surprise. Paused halfway through the vid to write this. ...thank you!
I hope all of your vids are as good as this one.
I just got into Warhammer purely as a fan of good lore and this channel has been monumental in catching up on all the stories that are in existence. Big ups, GW should definitely be cutting you paychecks.
The EMPEROR Blessed you For your time and your Work , Emperor Protect- Cuos DEA Esta 😎.
I'd like to imagine that the "rituals" they do consist of just flipping the buttons/touching the screen.
Down a shot every time Luetin says "catastrophic".
Luetin getting into semantics for the entire first 5 minutes lol
Luetin! Lord have mercy, this is good stuff. Good pacing, excellent.
I feel like this show affected me a lot as a kid without me realising it - if you want to talk about story pace. I was really young when it was on tv, but the way he tells these stories is really excellent. I am not a religious person btw, this just happens to be something that I watched when I was a kid I think I just enjoyed the stories lol ua-cam.com/video/kXiQVbaG6po/v-deo.html
Your voice is very relaxing and you do the lore justice. Keep it going!
I seriously spent several minutes wondering WHY WOULD THE MECANICUM LARGELY CAMPAIGN SEARCHING FOR "STDs" lol
It's pretty easy to find THOSE.
Belesarius cawl has hep c
To satisfy our one desire
So they have an excuse to removes their songs and replace them with the most powerful of Martian technologies. The CyberDong.
@@CornCarson super hep C more like
I had payed like 2/3 40K games on all my life, but i've been hooked to this lore videos for months now!!
LT by far has the best lore. He puts alot of work into it. Cheers LT
Okay, but when did they build the Gundam Frames to fight the rogue Mobile Armors?
Amazing content - best on UA-cam! Get more content up as I have nearly watched all the 40k stuff.
Thank you for producing amazing lore videos. Can you do Sisters of Battle?
I swear this series is the best thing to put on when painting miniatures.
I wish there was a channel that did Real History videos half as well as you do Fictional History. Great stuff as always.
There are many. The Historian's Craft is one of them.
Will you give us the toasters we were promised?
No
@@organicmonkfish *binary screeching*
@Dennis Young Even rarer! We will consider this.
What is the date of manufacture? Some of the older models are quite shoddy.
Thanks for all these great videos! I have always been interested in WH40k and these videos have been super fun while recovering from surgery. I'm going to pick up and try painting a tech priest as soon as I feel better!
