I'm still new to Warhammer 40,000 and I've been educating myself by bingeing these videos, just finished the 3rd Emperor of Man video in the playlist, so I'm not even close to watching this one yet, I just wanted to comment and say how much I'm loving all of your content! The Dark Eldar have a pretty valid reason, they don't torture and murder a lovecraftian cosmic horror gets their souls... I mean it doesn't make what they are doing a good thing or okay, but from their perspective, the lives of a few billion humans(who number in the countless trillions), hardly matters in the face of their own survival. Sorta like the Inquisition murdering a billion to save hundreds of billions more. If you were a person being tortured by the Dark Eldar or Virus Bombed by the Inquisition, I doubt you'd care about either ones moral justifications.

I am a little concerned luetin. Just yesterday I was looking into drrukhari lore and thought it would be nice if you made a video soon... I suspect xenos trickery at play.
It could be the regular Eldar subliminally giving you a warning, maybe its a Necron Tomb under your residence making you feel otherworldly, it might be the a broadcast form the Tau passing whispers of "the greater good", or ot could be echos of the legions of chaos saying " look who's more messed up than us".

I don't think it's ever stated that they wanted pain for themselves, if that were the case they wouldn't have had to kidnap people to torture them since there would always be people wanting more extreme torture performed on themselves willingly. This would explain why they wouldn't be into old Slaany torturing them all forever.
Once read a statistic about the internet, and it mentioned that around 60% of the WWW (dark web and the normal) is made out of porn-related stuff ready to consume. Somewhat 65% of the porn available displays violence against women in some way or form. Pedophilia and so on weren't mentioned because you can't just start looking for such sites, but it was agreed upon that there should be a shocking amount of it. Even in the most stringent of cultures, huge amounts of sneakily crammed in sex is present in literature (ancient Christian and Muslim poetry and fiction is hilariously packed with innuendos worded to technically be passable to the rage of their churches). Humanity is at its core perverted as all hell, with the real problem being that the perversion goes too far if no values are instilled. @maltheri9833 it is, but they hardly get to choose. unless you're born on a craftworld or as an exodite, your soul isn't bound to a soulstone or a spirit world. drukhari are effed from the day of their birth, and it only gets worse from then on
For those confused about Spirit Stones, did they exist before the Fall or after? Spirit Stones did exist before the Fall, its implied many of the Craftworld Eldar use these ancient stones. But since the Eldar could be reincarnated the Stones were more a curiosity then a necessity. But it does appear the pre-Fall Eldar could make Spirit Stones themselves. After the Fall all the Eldar lost the ability to make more Spirit Stones, so once the limited supply the Craftworlds took with them probably as historical oddities ran out. Future Eldar would need Spirit Stones from the Crown worlds. Its not explained if those are still pre-Fall Spirit Stones left on the Crown worlds or they the crystalized bodies of destroyed Eldar from the Fall, it maybe both.
At least with Chaos, you have a good chance of eventually getting the sweet release of death. The Drukhari will just archive you if they feel like it and otherwise keep you alive for long after you wished you were dead.
Like Bricky put it: You accidentally awaken a Necron tomb world. They immediately disintegrate you and you feel no pain. You get invaded by the tyranids; and while it hurts, you get a quick death. Chaos demons invade your world. They torture you for a bit, then rip you apart. The Drukhari invade. You hope for death. You don't get it.

Also on Audible I highly recommend for everyone “The Lords of Silence” - it’s a deep foray into The Death Guard and really pulls you into what it’s like for them. Of all the 40k novels and audio books I’ve read or listened to. It is by far the most unique writing.
Eldar are by far the most interesting race in 40k, such a shame they don’t get more love from the community as it would mean more novels and interesting law.
A new novel released recently focused on Lelith Hesperax written by Mike Brooks, it's very good and worth a read, I know I'm one year late but you never know, besides we get a good Eldar book once or twice per decade.

I think there was actually a term for something like that happening. Although sometimes it's scary how often that happens, and you start to think it's more than just a mere coincidence.
Once i thought, "hmm, wouldn't it be nice to take a dump now". Two minutes later i was on the toilet. The other time I was taking a walk and later found out my brother was taking a walk at the same time, in another country! What are the odds?? About 30 years ago i was born. Greatly done overview Luetin!:) On the topic of Drukhari psychic atrophy, there are some mentions (iirc Path of the Seer novel) that Eldar have a level of psychic empathy towards each other, at a subconscious level. My theory is that Drukhari having that part of themselves atrophied would mean they exhibit less or no empathy, which facilitates their horrible acts towards others...
taking into account their "cenobitian" attitude, I would venture in the opposite direction. Having a greater degree of empaty let them not only experience more extreme sensations, but also imagine way more efficient methods of inflicting pain and pleasure. Maybe they simply have gone so wide they can't focus it anymore...

Well, someone could probably make a decent argument for Hellraiser taking place in the distant past of Warhammer 40K and that the god, Leviathan, is just Slaanesh by a different name. As once a Chaos God is born it now exist across all space and time, like it was always there thanks to how the warp works. This would make the Cenobites something akin to Champions of Slaanesh or Daemon Princes, seeing as they were once just extremely perverse humans before seeking an audience with the god, Leviathan, desiring more pleasure and hedonistic experiences, before being elevated to what they are now... demonic creatures from another dimension.

Food for thought: low general birthrate for the Eldar may have to do with their nearly indefinite life span. Soul stone sorcery and advanced medicine aside: let's say every live birth had a margin of fatality, even a super low one like say .05% chance. While the risk is actually low Eldar females are incentivized /against/ having kids early in life since theoretically they have all the time in the world to do it and it's an imposition...
Every Eldar craves Slaanesh, the way a recovered addict craves their drug. When they die, their soul is not taken by slaanesh by force, but rather they are drawn to slaanesh willingly. They know what awaits them, but they cannot help themselves. Slaanesh is who they are, and they seek her with the dread and ecstasy of an addict seeking thier next high.

Luetin, I say this with the utmost respect, this is the best video you've done for a very long time, probably since your STC video. I don't mean this in a dickish way whatsoever because I'm a long time subscriber and probably watched and rewatched your videos dozens of times but I've noticed that many of your recent videos have descended into you essentially debating other lore "puritans" (so to speak,) about sources, semantics and everything becomes conjoined and very taxing to follow. I understand how difficult it is to create these long form videos and you have tread a very fine line between not padding your videos with filler and being scrupulous with the content you put out. I still click like and comment on those videos regardless because I want to support your channel and I appreciate the effort you put into creating them (even to the detriment of health at times). But this video, it's absolutely flawless. It's like your Emperor of Mankind/Grey Knights series. It's structured perfectly. From the start you get to the point, there's no fluff whatsoever and everything is explained so methodically. I can't emphasise enough how engaging you narration is. You have a gift in managing to blend lore with story telling so seamlessly. I just want to thank you and I hope you don't take my post the wrong way. You're the reason I even like 40k and whenever you put out a video I'll still go on it immediately and click "like" before I even watched it.

Excellent presentation! I never knew an hour and 33minute presentation solely about torture and depravity could be so interesting. Knowing your enemy is always good. Definitely the Hellraiser race of Warhammer 40k. The more I hear about Dark Eldar, the more I want to end them as swiftly as possible with the Asuryani. Warhammer 40k truly deserves an MMO with God of War style gameplay. As long as it focuses more on PvP warfare, lore and art, over grinding and bullshit gear gathering.
I know there’s one story out there about one time a band of Night Lords did something to piss off a group of Homunculi and they ended up brutalizing and driving the remaining Night Lords mad through their sheer horrors.

I didn't know much about warhammer before I found this channel. I had some friends who painted and plaid. But this story is so great sci-fi. Sometimes I put this in the background when I work or should sleep because the stories are so good.

I just can't wrap my head around how the weakest of the Chaos Gods could somehow lay claim to an entire race. If their souls burn so bright and their emotions are so much deeper it only makes that all the gods would be able to lay some claim to the Eldar. Their anger, ambitions, and desires would be of equal value.
The other three are far older and have been making moves of races for far longer. Simply put in the galaxy its not uncommon for most xenos cultures to have fallen to the worship of the chaos gods. In fact, the Imperium in the Great Crusade kept coming into conflict with many races who only in hindsight they would realize had worshiped the dark gods. Many of the races enslaved humans had the taint abput them and are moved around to new colony worlds. The Chaos Gods use them as a tool to infect the Imperium. They already have but there are still more to corrupt and there are still races yet uncontacted. This is something people temd to forget that the Chaos Gods mess with every race in the setting and only a few are able to recongize this or are immume/resistant to it. Most the galaxy might as well be written off as chaos tainted because in all likelyhood they are.
@@michaelhowell2326 the Eldar are believed to be naturally resistant to chaos in a way that's to much effort then it is worth. Likely done as a means by the old ones to protect them from the negative effects of using the Warp. Which even at that time was dangerous yo use.
@@michaelhowell2326 do remember that the more cruedly made Orks are heavily resistant to Chais corruption to the point its a rarity for them to fall. The Eldar had a lot more effort put into them.
michael howell Slaanesh is technically the most powerful but is still a teenager compared to the rest because everything that feeds the other gods also feed her.

The Dark Eldar have a pretty valid reason, they don't torture and murder a lovecraftian cosmic horror gets their souls... I mean it doesn't make what they are doing a good thing or okay, but from their perspective, the lives of a few billion humans(who number in the countless trillions), hardly matters in the face of their own survival. Sorta like the Inquisition murdering a billion to save hundreds of billions more. If you were a person being tortured by the Dark Eldar or Virus Bombed by the Inquisition, I doubt you'd care about either ones moral justifications.

For those confused about Spirit Stones, did they exist before the Fall or after? Spirit Stones did exist before the Fall, its implied many of the Craftworld Eldar use these ancient stones. But since the Eldar could be reincarnated the Stones were more a curiosity then a necessity. But it does appear the pre-Fall Eldar could make Spirit Stones themselves. After the Fall all the Eldar lost the ability to make more Spirit Stones, so once the limited supply the Craftworlds took with them probably as historical oddities ran out. Future Eldar would need Spirit Stones from the Crown worlds. Its not explained if those are still pre-Fall Spirit Stones left on the Crown worlds or they the crystalized bodies of destroyed Eldar from the Fall, it maybe both.
At least with Chaos, you have a good chance of eventually getting the sweet release of death. The Drukhari will just archive you if they feel like it and otherwise keep you alive for long after you wished you were dead.

A new novel released recently focused on Lelith Hesperax written by Mike Brooks, it's very good and worth a read, I know I'm one year late but you never know, besides we get a good Eldar book once or twice per decade.

On the topic of Drukhari psychic atrophy, there are some mentions (iirc Path of the Seer novel) that Eldar have a level of psychic empathy towards each other, at a subconscious level. My theory is that Drukhari having that part of themselves atrophied would mean they exhibit less or no empathy, which facilitates their horrible acts towards others...
taking into account their "cenobitian" attitude, I would venture in the opposite direction. Having a greater degree of empaty let them not only experience more extreme sensations, but also imagine way more efficient methods of inflicting pain and pleasure. Maybe they simply have gone so wide they can't focus it anymore...

Food for thought: low general birthrate for the Eldar may have to do with their nearly indefinite life span. Soul stone sorcery and advanced medicine aside: let's say every live birth had a margin of fatality, even a super low one like say .05% chance. While the risk is actually low Eldar females are incentivized /against/ having kids early in life since theoretically they have all the time in the world to do it and it's an imposition...
Every Eldar craves Slaanesh, the way a recovered addict craves their drug. When they die, their soul is not taken by slaanesh by force, but rather they are drawn to slaanesh willingly. They know what awaits them, but they cannot help themselves. Slaanesh is who they are, and they seek her with the dread and ecstasy of an addict seeking thier next high.
Since they MADE Slaanesh without even trying, that's not such a big surprise.
Blatantly untrue? The entirety of Eldar society (of all subraces) is based around escaping Slannesh.

Luetin, I say this with the utmost respect, this is the best video you've done for a very long time, probably since your STC video. I don't mean this in a dickish way whatsoever because I'm a long time subscriber and probably watched and rewatched your videos dozens of times but I've noticed that many of your recent videos have descended into you essentially debating other lore "puritans" (so to speak,) about sources, semantics and everything becomes conjoined and very taxing to follow. I understand how difficult it is to create these long form videos and you have tread a very fine line between not padding your videos with filler and being scrupulous with the content you put out. I still click like and comment on those videos regardless because I want to support your channel and I appreciate the effort you put into creating them (even to the detriment of health at times). But this video, it's absolutely flawless. It's like your Emperor of Mankind/Grey Knights series. It's structured perfectly. From the start you get to the point, there's no fluff whatsoever and everything is explained so methodically. I can't emphasise enough how engaging you narration is. You have a gift in managing to blend lore with story telling so seamlessly. I just want to thank you and I hope you don't take my post the wrong way. You're the reason I even like 40k and whenever you put out a video I'll still go on it immediately and click "like" before I even watched it.

Excellent presentation! I never knew an hour and 33minute presentation solely about torture and depravity could be so interesting. Knowing your enemy is always good. Definitely the Hellraiser race of Warhammer 40k. The more I hear about Dark Eldar, the more I want to end them as swiftly as possible with the Asuryani. Warhammer 40k truly deserves an MMO with God of War style gameplay. As long as it focuses more on PvP warfare, lore and art, over grinding and bullshit gear gathering.

I didn't know much about warhammer before I found this channel. I had some friends who painted and plaid. But this story is so great sci-fi. Sometimes I put this in the background when I work or should sleep because the stories are so good.

I just can't wrap my head around how the weakest of the Chaos Gods could somehow lay claim to an entire race. If their souls burn so bright and their emotions are so much deeper it only makes that all the gods would be able to lay some claim to the Eldar. Their anger, ambitions, and desires would be of equal value.
The other three are far older and have been making moves of races for far longer. Simply put in the galaxy its not uncommon for most xenos cultures to have fallen to the worship of the chaos gods. In fact, the Imperium in the Great Crusade kept coming into conflict with many races who only in hindsight they would realize had worshiped the dark gods. Many of the races enslaved humans had the taint abput them and are moved around to new colony worlds.
The Chaos Gods use them as a tool to infect the Imperium. They already have but there are still more to corrupt and there are still races yet uncontacted. This is something people temd to forget that the Chaos Gods mess with every race in the setting and only a few are able to recongize this or are immume/resistant to it. Most the galaxy might as well be written off as chaos tainted because in all likelyhood they are.
@@Xo-3130 I get all of that, but a species as so widely spread out as the Eldar could only fall to one of the gods if they are so emotional.
@@michaelhowell2326 the Eldar are believed to be naturally resistant to chaos in a way that's to much effort then it is worth. Likely done as a means by the old ones to protect them from the negative effects of using the Warp. Which even at that time was dangerous yo use.
@@michaelhowell2326 do remember that the more cruedly made Orks are heavily resistant to Chais corruption to the point its a rarity for them to fall. The Eldar had a lot more effort put into them.
michael howell Slaanesh is technically the most powerful but is still a teenager compared to the rest because everything that feeds the other gods also feed her.
