The 4 Biggest TCA Mistakes, Application Warnings & Answers

  • Today I want to clarify some common questions about tca.
    TCA is a stronger acid used to chemically exfoliate the skin from the face or body.
    Not only does it cause a good amount of visible flaking but it also stimulates collagen, elastin and even glycosaminoglycans in the skin.
    It’s truly amazing.
    And with all things amazing… there are those of you that like to live dangerously -or adventurously --- and I want to go over some tips that will help you to get your best … and most importantly -- SAFEST results.
    platinumskincare.com
    #1 - How often can I do a TCA peel?
    Obviously, this is going to be based on what percentage you are applying, how heavy handed you are with the volume of solution, and how many layers have been applied. All THAT INFO is in your peel manual for easy access.
    On AVERAGE - Most people will do one TCA peel per month until their series is complete. I think this is an easy timeline to follow and gives you enough weeks of downtime to help with tissue generation from the acid itself - AND - it gives you a good amount of time to use your daily treatments easily.
    Of course, there are always exceptions, and if you are applying a light percentage such as the 7%, or only 1 or 2 light layers of the 13%, … you will be able to apply it again around the 2nd or 3rd week mark if you wish instead.
    Always listen to your skin though, and only move forward if everything is feeling perfectly normal and there aren’t any lingering sensitivity or irritations happening.
    #2 - Can I apply a stronger percentage of TCA on my neck and chest?
    Problems aren’t just local to our faces…. therefore, you should definitely apply your TCA to the neck and chest as well to get the best results. You don’t have to peel them every time you do your face - but you really should at least 1x every few months.
    The tricky part here is the neck and chest area. We are applying acid to it like it’s an extension of our face - but it is going to flake like the body part it is. And the body takes a MUCH longer time to slough than the face does.
    We always have those wanting to treat the chest with acids in higher percentages such as 30% like the rest of the body - but we really shouldn’t.
    Is the skin thicker than the face? … Yes, but only microscopically… and you will find that it is much more “reactive” than your face can be.
    A higher percentage can lead to a stronger response than you are ready for. That can be rashes, extreme erythema, bumps and itching to name a few. So remember it is always best to apply the same percentage as your face. And keep in mind … that because the neck and chest are “technically” body - they do take longer to slough, so never apply a peel more than 1x per month there.
    #3 - Does where I am applying the TCA affect how often I can do a peel?
    Yes indeed. The Face turns over very quickly. You have many follicles and the skin generally starts to shed in the first 3-5 days. Then it continues over another 4-6 days and you are all done relatively quickly. Super.
    Now… the body really takes a longer time to flake. We recommend applying TCA to the body no more than 1x per month. … why?
    Because the body can take upwards of 10 days to 2 weeks before it even STARTS to show any dryness or flaking. Then… it is going to take another couple of weeks to finish. Now we are looking at 4 weeks. Maybe 5.
    So, whenever you are treating the body - it’s a slower process. Be patient.
    This all leads me to my next and final question.
    #4 - Can I add in ANOTHER “milder” peel in between TCA peels every 3-4 weeks?.
    Can I do that? ….
    LOL… You can’t.
    It’s not safe. Instead of thinking about SQUEEZING IN a peel while you are in your allotted downtime, let’s turn the tables and talk about rotating peels instead.
    Get out of the habit of thinking you can only do your peel on a specific day. Instead do your peel, and wait the allotted time frame that our Manual suggests. At THAT point you can now apply ANY OTHER ACID that you wish.
    Let me give you an example.
    You applied 3 layers of a TCA 13 and 3 weeks have gone by. You are ready to do another peel.
    This time you want to do a Glycolic 50. OK. Go ahead and apply your 50. Now follow your recommendations on waiting. Average wait times are 1-2 weeks.
    Once that time passes - you can do whichever acid peel you wish. Whether that is the same one again or the TCA.
    Just remember to ALWAYS follow the recommendations of the LAST peel you applied.
    No trying to squeeze in peels in between peels. That leads to over exfoliation and irritation. You can’t rush a good thing. Downtime is important and necessary.
    You need to allow your skin all the time it needs to regenerate deep in the skin. Patience is key - even with peels.
    If you still have more questions - just reach out to us.
    We are here to help.

    I love rotating my acids, as your video taught me, "Keep Your Skin Guessing" & that tid bit of information has been effective in my skin care journey! Thx for all your great videos!
    I do have 1 quick question, During my in-between time of my peel schedule, if I start to feel or see a bump forming, I dab Salicylic with a qtip only on that spot.... Is that ok? It seems to be working at keeping skin clear & no reactions, but just thought I'd get your professional opinion?
    Thx again!

      Hi there. Yes! That is absolutely something great to do 1x only. I have mentioned that in other videos - I know there are a lot and I can't point you to them. But the 25% salicylic works excellent. CLEAR Benzoyl peroxide is another very helpful treatment.

    I just did my 1st TCA peel 13% face, neck and chest. 1 layer . I have frosting but it’s not even. I am done with the 1 layer till next time like you suggested.
    Does over lapping the area mean I have done 2 layers?
    Thank you for this information.

      There will always be a bit of overlapping as you work the acid onto your skin in a pattern. It's fine. Nothing to worry about. I would rather see some overlapping instead of you missing areas entirely. 😊

    Thanks for the great video on TCA! On some websites I am reading, it says that you need to dilute the TCA with water, this will make it have less side effects. Should I do this? Or just apply the TCA solution by itself, not diluted with anything? I am currently using a 15% solution. Thanks!

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  2 роки тому +3

      Adding water is exactly how you dilute TCA and many other acids. I don't think you need to dilute the 15% though.

    Hello- do you have a video or explanation about hyppigmentation that results from a TCA chemical peel and what to use to regain pigment? I am tanned skin middle eastern and lost pigment from a 15% chemical peel that was done impressionable without any pre treatment. I reached out to another dermatologist who told me to use vitix gel. Any thoughts? Need help plz !!!

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  5 місяців тому

      HypOpigmentation then? The lack of pigment. This can happen any time you get a strong inflammatory response. Bites, wounds, acids, needling, lasers especially! Usually, if you just treat it kindly, and let a few months go by - an acute issue like this will return to normal. Vitix is to treat vitiligo - which is when the skin's melanin is being targeted by their own body and the person starts to get white spots. I am not sure if this would help - but, it certainly could be a possibility if your doctor says so.

      Hello, these are products that we don't manufacture or use - so I can only give estimates here. LED would be fine at any time. No worries there. The other looks to be a microcurrent device. I would think it would be fine to use about 1 week after your peel. So, wait until it is done flaking and then go ahead *Unless their paperwork advises otherwise.

    I have a question jennifer. I am black and have acne scarring on my back and shoulder. I prepped my skin with fade bright and melanin inhibitor for six weeks. I also washed my skin with soap and water and then cleaned it with alcohol. I did not spot treat, I applied the skin peel 50 percent on my right deltoid (shoulder area). I waited a few days and saw no frosting and no peeling. I felt a slight tingling/warming sensation when I applied but just the area closest to the arm pit got dry and flaked a little. No peeling. Did I do something wrong? What would you recommend?

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  2 роки тому +1

      Hello. You applied a 50% what? Glycolic? TCA? We do not manufacture a 50% TCA... so I can not help you with that. What is normal though on the body... is a peel taking 30 days to exfoliate. Don't expect to see anything for a good 10-14 days.

    I see that aftercare often consists of using an ointment such as aquaphor.
    As someone prone to blackheads I worry about applying a thick grease to my skin. Can this cause clogged pores in your fresh new skin?

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  3 роки тому +5

      You definitely do not need to use an aquaphor after TCA. It is very heavy and occlusive. A non-comedogenic oil is best and some SPF. We recommend our pure Emu oil or our Essentials Healing Blend.

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  3 роки тому

      Hello. I don't know what a rejuvenating cream is. Does it have active ingredients like Retinol or Acids to help prepare the skin for a chemical peel? What is your skin coloring? IF you have ethnic tones pease prep with Fade Bright or a hydrqquinone type product to HELP prevent against PIH. TCA CROSS is done 1x every 5 weeks with a stronger TCA. 30 = white skin. 20 = dark skin.

    Hello I am new to your page and very much interested. I have a ugly tattoo on my arm and I wanted to know if this would help me lighten or even possibly remove it I’m a skin type 5 African American also is 20% or 30% best along with my fade bright an retinol and should I be diluting it ?

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  2 роки тому

      Hello. I highly suggest to avoid applying TCA 30 on that tattoo. *Not because it isn't used to lighten tattoos... but because it could cause PIH in your skin and then instead of just having a tattoo you don't like... you will have dark patches all over the area... OR light patches. This is something I would leave to the professionals. That ink is very deep. If you want to you can try some peels, but I suggest ONLY the TCA 13 or 20 ... after the Fade Bright for 2+ weeks first to help prevent PIH. Apply layers and remember that it will take 10-14 days before you Start to get dry or flake. The body is much slower than the face. It will be a month before this peel has completed. :)

    How do you know when you shouldn’t put on another layer after you have done 1, is visible frosting when you should stop?

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, if you see a solid white area that is visible frosting and that is where you would stop. However, if you see a spotted or light speckled frost....you can apply an additional layer if you feel you can tolerate it. Keep in mind that not everyone will see a frost. Start slow with 1-2 layers and work your way up overtime.

    Maybe I am being over zealous here but I need to ask your opinion on this: if I do the proper preparation (tyrosinase inhibitors) and precautions (sunscreen and avoiding direct sun exposure), is it still safe to TCA peel in the summer time? Love your products and the videos are really helpful! Exquisite costumer service :) If it wasn´t for all of that, support, I would never consider doing a peel at home :))

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  3 роки тому +4

      Hi there and thank you! We try. There are many that do peels in the summertime. And since many states (and countries) are warm and sunny all year long - they do as well. The SPF coverage is your biggest necessity. That and a large hat or good clothing coverage are mandatory. Follow those rules and you will be just fine.

      We recommend starting with TCA 13 for the face, neck and chest areas. TCA 20 can be used on the body if you have a darker skin tone. If you have very light skin....TCA 30 can be used on the body. Make sure to pretreat for 2 weeks with Fade Bright if you have a medium or olive skin tone or darker.

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  2 роки тому +1

      Hello. Are you currently applying lighteners to your skin? Hydroquinone and alpha arbutin are the best 2. These are generally going to take care of any PIH you have. **If they used a really high percentage and your skin is ethnic (olive or darker) then there are times where it could be permanent don't fret yet though. Give it some time to be treated with your daily topicals. Milder peels like mandelic and lactic are also helpful. I would think you are OK for a Co2 laser... but you might need to wait another week. Ask your technician that either performed the CROSS or is going to perform the Co2.

      Most likely you used a retinoid/retinA too close to your application .. or, strong acids/did a scrub... We need to stop all of that 4-6 days prior to a TCA peel.
      Nonetheless... You have plenty of time. While those areas received a DEEPER peel than you anticipated - generally this will just flake right off. Brown coloring is just dead skin. Keep it hydrated well with the Serum and some Aquaphor until it flakes. 7-10 days to complete the sloughing process. :)

    What will happen if someone with fair to medium skin tone uses tca 30% peel on dark stretch marks without melanin inhibitor or any kind of pre treatment? Will it have good results even.. and will the side effects that may occur go away or be permanent

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  3 роки тому

      I would Absolutely any skin type can get PIH... so, no matter what that is always an option. If you have darker skin it jumps to a much higher probability. Using the inhibitors bring you back down to the regular potential of a lighter skinned person. I would generally suggest it if your skin is olive toned or darker to be as safe as possible. *Yes, the hyperpigmentation can be treated -- basically with the same thing you would have prepped with. It can take several months to go away though.

    I picked my skin after tca and it's now red and it irritates me dur to inflamation, I applied petroleum jelly on it to keep it wet and my skin type is fizpatrick 4, will that cause hyperpigmentation? What should I do to prevent hyperpigmentatio due to picking of skin after peel

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  Рік тому +1

      Hello. It is possible that this could hyperpigment. SPF 50 is mandatory. If your area remains PINK for a couple of weeks, the treatment is 1% hydrocortisone to even that back out. If it gets darker... then you will need to use a melanin inhibitor (like our FAde Bright or something similar with alpha arbutin or hydroquinone) for a few weeks.

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  2 роки тому

      Hello. Ok, you are referring to PIH or Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation. That happens when ethnic skin isn't generally pretreated with a melanin inhibitor. You can see why in this video: www.platinumskincare.com/tca-peels-on-dark-skin/ and also see the treatment in this video: www.platinumskincare.com/so-you-ended-up-with-pih
      Basically the treatment is the same as a prep would have been. Melanin inhibitors such as Fade Bright and retinoids daily. SPF 50 always to protect against more. Stay ON a melanin inhibitor if you are wanting to do another peel that is stronger in the future. Preparation is so helpful.

    Hey, I want to place an order for the TCA peel, I've watched all your peel videos and even went through your answers to questions people left in the comments. I'm slightly confused on the frequency of the peels as in some answers you have said the following about the application of the TCA :
    Aim for 2 peels per week with the Tca 13% applied (1-3 layers).
    Start with the 13% at 1-2 layers your first time. Then, in about 2 weeks do your next one with 1-3 layers *working your way up to 5 *if you wish.
    Hello. You will only apply your TCA in ONE session... not over the course of days. Leave this go and next month when you are going to do another peel.
    Are you meant to do the TCA 2x a week, every 2 weeks or 1 a month? as the answers are inconsistent. Thank you

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  2 роки тому +1

      Lets simplify this. Most are applying at least 2 layers when they do a TCA peel.. do a peel 1x a month only.
      The 2nd one looks to be an answer to a question where someone wanted to apply tca over a course of multiple days. That is NOT how tca is applied. It is during one session.

      Generally we do not suggest things of this nature. Blades/shaving and then acid. Or Microdermabrasion and then acid. Your first treatment is removing layers of skin - so no matter what you do afterwards - it will be more HARSH than you are expecting!
      If you are finding that you have done both on a client many times and you think their skin will be OK with it .. you can test it out with a very LIGHT acid. Maybe Mandelic 22 or 40, as they are the least inflammatory acids.

    • @PlatinumSkinCare

      That was WAY too strong for you to apply on Asian skin. Not rinsing isn't even the issue - as TCA is self-neutralizing. The issue it that is VERY irritating and causes a lot of inflammation. That inflamed skin will get PIH. Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation. Asian skin is very prone to this. Start using a melanin inhibitor immediately and avoid the sun and use SPF 50 for sure.

      TCA = 30% being strongest. Even though the % is less than 1/2 .. it is not even comparable.

      You could. We suggest trying to keep the skin clean though. A tinted SPF would be the best option for allover color. Eye makeup and some blush -- no problem at all.

      We do not recommend apply TCA to full body in one session. For example.....apply to the arms one week and then the next week apply to legs etc. Do not do too much at once.

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  3 роки тому +1

      YES! It can cause PIH in skin tones that are olive or darker. We need to use a melanin inhibitor prior to doing a tCA to minimize the likeliness of that happening.

      Generally TCA is very helpful for scars - as is copper. I would suggest SuperCop 2x for scars and the TCA CROSS method for depressed scars. If you are just speaking about MARKS/PIH... then any of the peels will help. Jessners would be excellent as an option.

    Good day!
    I just got done with my 40% glycolic acid peel ( at 4 minutes ), and got very very light micropeeling, and barely any results after 14 days. Question: how long should I wait to do a 20% TCA ( I usually do 3 to 4 layers every 2 to 3 months, and those give me great results ). I am 34 years old, fair skin, and working with hyperpigmentation and a bit of texture. Thank you in advance!

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  2 роки тому +2

      2 weeks is plenty of waiting time after Glycolic. So go ahead and do your TCA 20% but be sure to wait at least 4-5 weeks after a TCA to use any other peel.

    Mam tca 25% is not frosting in my skin

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  Рік тому

      Ok, 1. The goal of a TCA peel is not to "frost". It can happen... but, you do not just keep layering until the skin frosts. Be sure you understand that. See this video: www.platinumskincare.com/understanding-tca/
      I don't know where you got your TCA 25% from. Did you dilute it from our 30%? This page has dilutions and how to correctly do this: www.platinumskincare.com/how-to-dilute-acid-peels/
      Now... depending on your skin coloring, TCA 25 may NOT be the best option for you. Did you work up to 5 layers with the next lower % BEFORE moving to this one? If not - you need to cut that in 1/2 and start LAYERING. This is how TCA gets its power.

      Hello. We manufacture a 30% TCA that can be used on the body 1x every month at 1 layer only. You are using a stronger acid than we recommend.... but I would suggest waiting at least 5 weeks or longer.

I mean that’s a whole other animal to start examining the skin on my body- I mostly try not look at it so I have no idea what kind of “imperfections” we are even over here peeling but the thought of it stresses me out! Dear Lord! My unclothed body parts are like the sun- I just squint, avert my eyes, run, and try not to look directly at it! 😂

    Is it good to use 25%TCA for scar marks on the face? especially for man skin

    • @PlatinumSkinCare
      @PlatinumSkinCare  3 роки тому +2

      That is just fine. We like to use the 30% on the depressed scars - though it really depends on your skin's coloring as to what is too strong -- or will cause pigmentation issues. If your skin is ethnic toned then you need to pre-treat with a melanin inhibitor for 2-3 weeks before applying a strong acid like that. Watch our TCA CROSS video if these are the kinds of scars you are dealing with.

      I highly suggest Fade Bright (or hydroquinone) daily with SPF 50 every single day. A lactic peel (mild) or a Jessners peel (stronger and layerable) would be two good options to help remove some of the darkened skin.

      You can definitely do the 15%. I would suggest 2 layers. Make sure you are also using SPF 50 every single day - or this is all for naught. A melanin inhibitor 2x per day (like our Fade Bright) will also be very helpful. Daytime,.... just apply FB and then top with your SPF 50. Night time,... FB and then Retinol .20. That is a simple and effective regimen for your pigmentation. Then your peel monthly. *Jessners is another stronger peel that is very helpful for pigmentation.
