I give many thanks to Dr. Jason Fung. After reading your book I felt I finally cracked the code for why I felt my full button was broken. That book is saving me in my retired years now. I implemented fasting in my lifestyle along with a ketogenic food management program starting Feb 2022 and now I am 100 lbs down in weight.
You lost weight because you were eating less and burning more so you could eat a good amount on fasting but you lost weight actually through diet and exercise
Dr. Fung saved my life. No exaggeration. Years of trying a variety of different diets, some under the guidance of doctors(!), my weight went up yearly. I ended up approx. 70 lbs overweight. (Think 225 lbs when a healthy weight is 115 or 125 for my height.) I came across Dr. Fung after trying Noom and seeing the same thing I'd encountered in previous diets. *Intentional Feasting* (what I call Intermittent Fasting) is my new *lifestyle*. Started IF in June of last year and I'm 35 lbs lighter. For the first time in over 3 decades I ended the year at less weight than I started. No more dieting. Just the ease of not snacking between meals. Changed my life. Thank you, Dr. Fung.

Thank you Lewis for this talk with Dr.Jadon Fung.I started following him as I'm on my journey for better health and weight loss. I am changing the way I was brought up especially around food. 👏💐💕
Another brilliant guest.I am so grateful to Dr. Fung after watching and listening to him for a long time I went on intermittent fasting and lost so much weight feel much healthier as a result of that.Lewis you are the greatest watching your show is so educational thank you all you do for people the best show ever without a doubt.❤
Jason is one of my all-time favourite health experts- it's always interesting to hear what he has to say. And Lewis-- Man, you have the innate ability to ask the questions we didn't even know we wanted the answers to. So insightful, So intriguing the answers incited from your questions. Out of all the people I've ever seen giving interviews, including Oprah, Barbara Walters, Ted Koppel, etc.. Lisa Bilyeu and you are simply the best. I just see a level of engagement I don't see --to the degree-- from the others as you bring. Thanks!! : D
I like the hosts background. I love all of Dr. Jason Fungs videos the ones in his office or the ones he has with a planned media clip. All of his information is saving my life.
After WWll we in hungry Netherlands received swedish whitebread to fill the empty stomaches. So people got sick: they needed nutrients which were not in that bread.
So true! I accidentally found out after my cat passed away last year, I lost my appetite completely. I wasn't able to eat for several days and got lightheaded. I had to go to work. The only food that was halfway appealing was bland food. Steel-cut oatmeal with berries and a little peanut butter was on hand. It took me a long time to eat a bowl...so filling. I drank a ton of water too. I ate nothing else except oatmeal and raspberries with a tbsp peanut butter. It energized me. Had it 2-3 meals a day and water or black coffee or black tea. On the 4th morning after starting oatmeal, I woke up and felt happy for no reason, euphoric in fact. I told a friend who said you're in a fasted state due to eating nothing for days followed by about 500-600 calories a day for another few days. That sounded about right...hadn't been sleeping, was stressed and fatigued. My cat's death was still there but I was feeling better. I spent the next 5-6 weeks eating oatmeal because I felt mentally clear and high spiritually, not hungry, weak or tired. Lost 16 pounds. Finally I said I should eat...so I added mixed salad greens and raspberries and 2 tsp apple cider vinegar+1cup cold water with a few walnuts. I did this for a couple days, then added steamed veggies like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, then salmon, ground turkey gradually.
Thank you Dr Jason Fung, 2 years ago I was in a deep flare of mast cells activated syndrome, recently moved to the US and hadn’t found a specialist yet. Therefore by myself for surviving. Gained 60 pounds in 6 months. Angio oedema was severe, my O2 saturation was very often around 80. Watching his videos made me understand the benefits of lowering my insuline and my inflammation. Not only did I lose these 60 pounds, but also lowered all my symptoms of food and synthetic fragrances sensitivity triggering my anaphylactic shocks. I am wondering why we don’t find more papers on mast cells activated syndromes and ME improving on low carb diet. As a certified osteopath I am trying to motivate persons in groups (FB), difficult without the support of experts and physicians. Thank youuuu for your huge expertise and motivation!
Thank you so much for this interesting interview. I am so glad I was in a time when we didn’t have access to process foods. We were poor and we ate out of what we grown in our garden. We ate meat once a week and it was liver with lots of vegetables. So now in my 40s I still continue to eat like this and my children as well. They do snack do, but they eat mindfully and try to be consistent. But with so much food it is hard for our children to stay healthy. I do hope we find a solution for this world wide problem.
Great interview, Lewis! There are always these nuggets that you can find in interviews even if you are hearing the information again. I didn’t realize that you would have less insulin levels raised in the morning, then at night. Fascinating.
I am day 110 lost weight struggle to walk think I was sick from being overweight and over medicated on blood pressure pills. Riding inside bike starting my short walks thanks love both your chats has helped me soo much changing habits eating green clean lots of low carb. Using my fitness pal app is the best too thank you love fasting doing 16/8 sometimes 18 other day 12/14 mostly 16
I don't have much weight to lose but fast daily, eating one meal a day. I have a very physical job but still have bags of energy (I carry it everywhere i go 😉) and my body doesn't have to cope with digestion while I'm working. I am also freed from the chore of making lunch to take to work. It's a win-win-win!
So much commonsense yes we did eat less in the 60’s and 70’s and we didn’t eat sugar laden foods, sure we had cordial, cake and biscuits but they were a treat and chocolate was Easter or Christmas. We have become a consumer society and it’s affecting our health in so many ways. Thank You thoroughly enjoyed this.🍉🥑🍳
Great content gentlemen, I'm unable to give 2 hours of my undivided attention to your video, so I might have missed it, but I didn't hear about the importance of sleep. Intermittent fasting has been working for me for a few years. I sleep better if my eating time ends closer to bed time. Each person should do what works best for "you". Keep trying until you figure it out.
That book is about origins of cancer. What u need is very low carb ans eliminating sugar. I am a cancer survivor, the book is interesting but it won't tell you how to fix yourself if u have cancer.
You might also check out the interview with Dr. Goldhammer. There is a specific clinic here in California that deals with fasting and helping those with cancer. I will definitely say a prayer for you and your husband.
I have just started the cancer code it is gripping. Jason Fung has a way of explaining the whole dynamics of cancer in a way that makes it accessible to anyone who has no medical background. I wish more medical people were like him instead of the mysterious white coat wonders who dont feel there patients warrant explanation or clear precise information.
Dr Fung's discussion is absolute pure knowledge explained simply and crystal clear. Just one little inaccuracy regarding the fact that when you skip a meal or two or begin a prolonged fast, your body does not tap directly into your stored fat.... it draws energy from your glycogen storage for several days. Infact... when I begin a prolonged fast, it takes me time, even more than a week to fully pull out energy from my body fat and during those days, I have very low energy and quite some hunger. It takes time for me to really start producing ketones. It's NOT after 3-4 days for everyone. Thank you for the great interview. Greetings from Italy and Happy New Year 🥂🍾
Thank you for all the advice. From 110 kg to 81kg and my hba1c from 9.9 to 6.6. I dont have cramps at night anymore. I can walk fast. I feel so light. I do 18/6 and OMAD. I still cannot do 36.
I am a lazy person, and quick feeling cold, but the moment I come up from the chair I feel less cold, and while doing something you do not think about the cold nor about food. So, I give myself a stump on the butt (not really) and say: I should not be so lazy, and promise something nice, like an apple, a puzzle, a serie-episode (after 4hours of biking). Do be friendly to yourself. Smile, and be proud and thankfull for any succes.
I like what Dr.Fung was pointing to: circumstances causes change in habit. A relative recently asked me how is it DNA of humans are more oriented milk fat than fruits. I gave a lot of thought and realized that humans were not accommodated to fruit sooner because it is only with machinery and slavery were we able to clear large tracks of lands and proceed on the road of very high fruit production and consumption. So availability of fruit in large quantity relative to availability and DNA adjustment to milk fat has been recent. Consequently we are more adjusted to milk fat, strange as that seems.
Avoid carbs for as long as possible BEFORE your fast. During a fast, you need electrolytes. The body does require these during this time. Try to make sure you take magnesium and potassium every day, and take about 1/2- 1 full teaspoon of sea salt everyday, as well. You can divide this up throughout the day, and just dissolve it in your water. Good luck on your fasts!
Thanks a lot Lewis for a great interview Dr Fung I love you my energy is back since 2018 you are an amazing researcher 💜🧡❤️💙Scientist without complicating science Yes IF & OMAD is the answer

Today is day 99 of my fitness journey and I have lost a total of 22 pounds. I was originally 228 pounds and I am now 206. I hit the gym no less than five days a week and I continue to eat healthy every day, no cheat days! After while, it became easy (as if I was on auto pilot) and I did not think twice about going to the gym or what to eat. Just try not to complicate the process. Once you start seeing results and you prove to yourself that you are disciplined, it’s all about consistency from there on in. I posted a few videos on my channel about my journey, and I post daily on my Instagram, and I hope to inspire others! Omar
@@melissaholder4231 keep working hard and don’t look back! The first couple of weeks might be tough but once you fight through them and start seeing results, you will feel absolutely amazing.
I was 20 in the mid 70's, and all my friends and family and I were like stick insects. We spent our whole lives out side, ate 3 home cooked meals a day, (nothing processed) & walked everywhere & drank water. We were heavier however than our stick thin parents and grand-parents. Things have certainly changed since then. Enormously so.
One thing i come across a lot is people assuming that the body is independent from thought and emotions. Also, not all bodies are the same, nor does one size fit all regarding dietary needs. What also needs to be addressed is that extra weight does not always equal dis ease or is caused from diet alone.
Vegetables are nutrious and good fibre. Eliminate all packaged foods..look up glyciemic index and load. Avoid some veg but eat plentiful salads and greens
I was a teen during that time & there are a few issues. One they changed the food pyramid from 6-7 helpings of grains to 11. Then fat free became a thing, they got the coconut oil out of movie theatre popcorn, but another big issue is women started to go to college in droves & in the ‘professional categories’ accounting, law, medicine rather than secretary, hairdresser etc & with mom working she did not want the kid playing outside, they would get into trouble. So the kid is inside, & now microwaves are in everyone’s house so instead of the kid eating an apple or maybe even a sandwich if it’s a teen boy, now they’re eating micro popcorn, pizza etc. and no one to remind them what a serving is or they had enough. The three meals & 2 snacks came abt in the 80s when the premise was the process of eating/digestion raised your metabolism. But as a skinny kid & teen if I ate 1500 calories it was 300 breakfast, 400 lunch, 500 dinner & two 100 cal snacks, you were hungry & you needed the snack because you weren’t taking in enough calories at the meal to get you to the next meal
I'm on 24 hr. intermittent fasting, I found that after about a week of only eating every 24 hrs. it becomes easy to fast. I don't know why but it becomes very easy to go 24 hrs.
Due to my work I eat only once a day by time constraints. I used to eat so often in school but now I work I eat once a day and I don't miss the mealtimes at all. Once a day is just fine, I have no hunger for a second meal. It really works, the body settles into the habit and all of a sudden it's no Biggie, where someone eating 6 times a day would imagine us to be constantly starving.
Great interview. I would like to know Dr. FUNGS opinion on fasting for female hormones. I am following Dr Mindy Pelz for fasting for hormones. (FAST LIKE A GIRL) and would love his view on fasting, and women x love these doctors that continue to question the mainstream narrative and stay open to learning. And sharing this much information for ABSOLUTELY free. Wow. Thank you Dr Fung.
I was told as a kid if i did not want much for tea but wanted sweets later, i would have been told if i could not eat all my tea if could not have sweets....
I, Baked Some Wing Dings Honey Garlic Parmesan I, also added some Different Herbs to it. I, Had a Bottle of Ice Mountain Water and a Cup of Fa¡r Life Milk 1 Lime Jello with Pinnaples.1 Cup of V-8 1/2 Tsp of Sea Salt and Lime. Do You, Think I, ate to much?
Back in the day I remember if I had a fresh loaf of bread out of the oven and I had some garlic butter available I would consume the whole loaf....I wonder what my blood sugar number was back then.....
@lewishowes I want to address something that society puts on parents here. Children today spend more time inside on phones and games. Yes. But we do not have a society thar creates a safe outside play environment. When a child can get stolen and murdered by the man who delivers your packages you can't feel safe letting them be outside. And they begin to hear of this stuff too so they turn to the inside on their own choice as well. They don't want to go outside after a while. They are addicted to their routine of phones etc. The parents get blamed. But we also have terrible grandparents who are so self involved they don't even call these kids. Many of today's families are living far from the hometown village and are very isolated. Instead of constantly blaming the kids and the parents we need to address the causes not just attack the symptoms. Mom of 2 out.
As a parent I'm not going to take the risk. When you wake u0 to hear the news that a child the same age and gender as your own has been murdered by a pedo you just don't say: I will roll the dice, that won't happen to me.
Ummmm you're blaming society are you not? Grandparents etc...? Maybe figure out how to get your kids exercise. Have them join fav sports teams, or ballet if you have girls, keep them active. Go on hikes with your kids, go camping, go bike riding together, go on walks together. If your worried about danger leaving kids outside to play, then be outside with them! Problem solved. If grandparents aren't calling, have you addressed it with them? Maybe have your kids call them once in a while.
I'm curious.. is there an age when it's too young to IF? Children probably should be eating more, no? I completely understand all these principles for adults, but how should we feed our children? Also, I'm in my 50's and play aLOT of tennis and other activities. I don't have any issues skipping breakfast and sometimes lunch, but I'm constantly hungry late in the day/ evening... should I increase food intake while IFing?
Depends. Type 2, yes, it is ok to fast. In fact, those with T2 can reverse their diabetes by fasting. But if you're on insulin, you'll need to check with your Dr. Going too low can be deadly.
Very Informative! It’s very sad to see so many obese children. Unfortunately not everyone can afford nutrient dense food. Processed food equals sickness and early death.
"Unfortunately not everyone can afford nutrient dense food." THAT is a HUGE part of this -- the food deserts (that some corporations create ON PURPOSE, with healthy food even more expensive in the one grocery store, let's say, in the less "well-appointed" neighborhood) ... where it's almost like eating healthily has become a LUXURY
Hi Barbara, one of my friends had this issue and was exploring L-carnitine and L-glutamine supplementation, so maybe you could speak to your doc about those options (they're also super affordable), kindest, Dave
We lose hair due to shock.(diet changes, seasonal, etc) How long have you been doing the IF etc? Usually the hair loss slows down once we adjust to lifestyle change. Mine did. Now I'm back to normal. Maybe get your nutrient levels checked? Increase protein--add in collagen/protein powder- may be what will help.
Ansel Keÿs....promoted the idea of cholesterol causing heart disease this notion turned into fat....so we started with a low fat diet... But actually our body needs fat.... doesn't "need" sugar
Fasting tires me out & weakens me Doesn’t pump me up No greater mental clarity, less than I am usual which is not good Yes: Lots of water Quality salt thruout the day Potassium and magnesium I don’t sleep any better either (insomnia)
Dr. Bernard has so many medical themes to convince us on carbs and no protein, eggs or dairy. Yet I can have Cheerios with milk. I’m so confused. I’m eating so many mixed diets. Just not donuts. I’m back on bread and so confused. Please help.

Thanks!! : D
Thank you so much for your feedback 🙂
I'm on day 5 of a 14 day fast. First time I've ever tried this, so far I feel great!

Jason Fung. Enjoy listening to this wise man.
So glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate you for listening. 🧡
I like the hosts background. I love all of Dr. Jason Fungs videos the ones in his office or the ones he has with a planned media clip. All of his information is saving my life.
Thank you so i much for inviting this genius dr. I really appreciate it Lewis. ❤
After WWll we in hungry Netherlands received swedish whitebread to fill the empty stomaches. So people got sick: they needed nutrients which were not in that bread.
Dr Fung is brilliant!!!❤
Absolutely!
Best quote…”The mental clarity of STARVATION”❤😊
Eating has become so much more rewarding since IF. There is so little in the world that I can control, at least I can control when I eat!
I don’t need weight loss but help with my overall energy level.
You're welcome,thank you for watching🧡
Emotional eating is huge in our society
Jason makes so much sense and the science easy
Great interview, Lewis! There are always these nuggets that you can find in interviews even if you are hearing the information again. I didn’t realize that you would have less insulin levels raised in the morning, then at night. Fascinating.
To me, salmon , brie cheese and wine are comfort foods :)

Just come off. a 28-day Fast/Detox and I have been doing this for a while I realized that the first three days are the most challenging.
Day three is the worst! But after day 3, wow amazing willpower

Listening to him gets me back on track. Recharged. 😊
Thank you!
Amazing interview; informative, exciting, doable, and positive ! My husband has Cancer and I will get the Cancer Code ASAP.

He is jem of a person.. Great interview many thanks
Infact... when I begin a prolonged fast, it takes me time, even more than a week to fully pull out energy from my body fat and during those days,
I have very low energy and quite some hunger.

I am fasting but I was hung up on calories in calories out. This is understandable thank you.
Love Dr. Fung! Thank you!
Thanks for being here!
Question-how do we deal with nausea and stomach pains in the morning when trying to fast?

It is SAD when you have to worry about getting GOOD FOOD to eat Growing up I didn’t have to but now I have to too much evil to deal with now

Its a full time battle against the clever ways Processed Food try to maximise sales.
Definitely your environment ...this is why we gain weight during the holidays. Alternate Day Fasting is saving my life!!
One thing i come across a lot is people assuming that the body is independent from thought and emotions. Also, not all bodies are the same, nor does one size fit all regarding dietary needs. What also needs to be addressed is that extra weight does not always equal dis ease or is caused from diet alone.
Really love this interview. Great questions…great content. A brilliant guy.❤
@53:09 potatoes are not a refined carbohydrates. Only so if made into chips and fries etc
There was very little mention of vegetables and fruits which are both carbs but do have fiber and I would like to know more about that subject
Vegetables are nutrious and good fibre. Eliminate all packaged foods..look up glyciemic index and load. Avoid some veg but eat plentiful salads and greens
Choose berries over bananas oranges etc 10:15
My comfort foods are healthy foods.
Fantastic interview
I'm on 24 hr. intermittent fasting, I found that after about a week of only eating every 24 hrs. it becomes easy to fast. I don't know why but it becomes very easy to go 24 hrs.
Due to my work I eat only once a day by time constraints. I used to eat so often in school but now I work I eat once a day and I don't miss the mealtimes at all. Once a day is just fine, I have no hunger for a second meal. It really works, the body settles into the habit and all of a sudden it's no Biggie, where someone eating 6 times a day would imagine us to be constantly starving.
I agree 💯
How do I manage intermiiten fasting once I achieve my ideal weight

Their loss but they may come around later in their lifetime. They will learn it later if not now
As a parent I'm not going to take the risk.
Thanks!
You're welcome,thank you for watching🧡
How can you fast safely if you’re diabetic or it doesn’t matter if your diabetic? 14 hr fast is safe for a diabetic to follow.
Depends. Type 2, yes, it is ok to fast. In fact, those with T2 can reverse their diabetes by fasting. But if you're on insulin, you'll need to check with your Dr. Going too low can be deadly.
I think people know how they live. Just don’t care about themselves anymore.
Sorry. Not true. My daughter feeds her kid healthy foods, and they eat less garbage, no cereals, etc and they live cheap. She shops smart.
How do I stop the hair loss
I love the diet I have lost 33 lbs. But the hair loss scares me
Thanks barb holton
Hi Barbara, one of my friends had this issue and was exploring L-carnitine and L-glutamine supplementation, so maybe you could speak to your doc about those options (they're also super affordable), kindest, Dave
Are you eating enough protein?
@Barbara Hilton…I eat all kinds of nuts. Walnuts, pecans, pistachios & almonds…Biotin helps! Also take a high quality cod liver oil. Good luck.
Did you have your tonsils removed?
We lose hair due to shock.(diet changes, seasonal, etc) How long have you been doing the IF etc? Usually the hair loss slows down once we adjust to lifestyle change. Mine did. Now I'm back to normal. Maybe get your nutrient levels checked? Increase protein--add in collagen/protein powder- may be what will help.
Ansel Keÿs....promoted the idea of cholesterol causing heart disease this notion turned into fat....so we started with a low fat diet... But actually our body needs fat.... doesn't "need" sugar
