I once took my macbook into apple because of a weird noise coming from my fan when running. The people at the genius bar suggested that the noise could only be repaired through the replacement of other internal parts that added up to over $600. Long story short, I watched a few videos on DIY macbook repairs, bought a replacement fan for $7 from ebay and fixed the issue within 3 days of the first initial noise. The knowledge at our fingertips via the internet is insane. Oh and apple said they would have my laptop back to me within 2-3 weeks.
The heater blower motor went out on my '97 Ford Explorer. Ford wanted around $470 to replace it. I found a rebuilt motor on eBay for $40, then found a video on UA-cam describing the tools I'd need and showing me how to do it. 20 minutes watching the video, and 40 minutes doing the actual replacement. I'm no mechanic, but I got it done. Well worth the time. Now, I wouldn't attempt something more complex, but these simple tasks I would highly recommend doing yourself.

Astro Allen, it's the sort of nerve tick that makes him charming and relatable for people who haven't erased their humanity by replacing it with vanity and hardcore adherence to group standards.
When Linus said that you can legit die from touching the exposed power supply, he wasn’t kidding! I had an older iMac come to my repair shop and I forgot it was still plugged in, and when I was removing the cables, I accidentally touched the power supply and in an instant I thought my heart stopped. My finger was slightly burned and hurt for a week. Please be careful when doing this
I was taking apart my stereo amp and accidentally shorted a massive capacitor with my screwdriver, luckily i was using a screwdriver which most likely saved my hand for a week.
its been long, since this happened, but I love so much how these two collide in this video, how upbeat is Linus vs how Serious is Louis, both of them amazing guys, love them both.
Literally the CBC report featuring Louis, where the Apple store wanted to charge $1100 for a bent pin on the screen cable, or $500 when the technician failed to plug the battery in all the way.
The Forge Master Lol I seem to remember Louis bent the pin back and had the whole repair done in like 90 seconds and said something like "unless we had to replace the cable we wouldn't charge you for this" 😂
+Carewolf not marketing. They spend their budget suing Samsung and all the other companies in their business. Hell didn't Apple even try to sue themselves a few times?

Rossmann is one genuine sob that I'd recommend to anyone that enjoys anything PC/Apple repair. To make things even easier if you HATE apple, you'll love Rossmann.
Pro tip: When re-screwing into plastic or aluminum : Turn the screwdriver counterclockwise until it "clicks" to make sure you are in the original threads or you risk recutting threads and stripping/breaking the standoffs.
Also. PATENT: Apple. But yes, when you break it down to the actual components, Apple did not develop or design shit. They probably outsourced the pcb too.
@@s4rg380 That is very likely yes. And even if they designed the PCB themselves: It's not gonne be magically 5000 bucks xD And the board probably gets manufactured by Foxconn anyway.
My favourite thing about Linus and Louis's relationship is that it started with Linus sharing some lay mans information that wasn't technically correct, Louis talking shit and then Linus using the shit talking as fodder for a video. Linus then turned up to Louis's shop to get him to show us how to do the thing properly then kinda just adopted Louis the way extraverts who aren't easily offended adopt snarky introverts as friends and Louis has been swept up for the ride. It's benefitted both channels and it's pretty funny.
If apple made a car: Customer: "Hey, I have to change my oil" Apple: "Oh yeah, you need a new engine and that will $10,000" Customer: "Oh no, nevermind I can change it myself" Apple: "You're not supposed do that yourself, doing so will void the warranty"
it's ok, we just soldered it all for the V2 so the customer won't have to wonder what he can do or not. And because we love our customers, we made a cute proprietary fuel plug so you can only refuel on our store's parking
+hpneptune -- Yep, Louis is like the heart surgeon who replaces your bad heart, watches the new one start beating, and says, "Great! It's working! You folks can close him up -- I'm outta here!"
Perkins it's actually pretty standard for the lead surgeon to only open you up and fix the issue then leave the stitching up to the secondary surgeons or nurses. Though they don't just go "I'm outta here" unless there is another surgery to be done.
well the way you talk about a heart surgeon, it seemed to imply that doing that wasn't normal procedure. Sorry for thinking you didnt know that, when your message implied you didnt.
PinKushin it could either be a good thing or a bad thing, on one hand our master heart surgeon did the hard work of making sure the patient stays alive and his heart is working and leaves his team to the east part of closing him up, but on the other hand it could also mean that our master heat surgeon just made sure the patient had a heartbeat and left the operating room with no further consideration of the patient.

i love the dichotomy between hyped linus and chill louis. its hilarious
Why is everyone saying that Linus was being a rude host? This is clearly just banter, like when he was calling Rossmann "not a real technician" that's because he technically doesn't have certifications. Rossmann taught himself all of it and prides himself on doing a better job than the "technicians" that botch simple things. Rossmann jokes about it himself, like do these people not know who Rossmann is?
A "real technician" is the one who gets the job done. Papers and certificates don't mean godd**n shit. Linus MEANT not "Apple certified".
Absolutely. The fan boys are just looking for anything at all they can say.
No sense of humor.....must be americans who are easely offended if he\she hears a fart on mount Everest....
Banter, which obviusly makes Luis feel very unconfortable. Not nice at all, even if Linus dident intent it to be like that.
@@Chillypuwn To be fair, he always looks uncomfortable.
Oh and apple said they would have my laptop back to me within 2-3 weeks.
damn...
Good for you
Self repair is the smartest choice... As long as there is tutorials

@@lordfarquad2479, it is very funny. Ironically enough, it is not that funny when you are sheeple.
Besides the fact that it is socketed, they still treat the logic board as a single unit, so it may as well have been soldered, in which case someone had to be fired for implementing sockets.

Pro tip: When re-screwing into plastic or aluminum : Turn the screwdriver counterclockwise until it "clicks" to make sure you are in the original threads or you risk recutting threads and stripping/breaking the standoffs.
I mean, that's just best practices for any screw into any material.
Pretty sure I invented that though
I do this with anything that uses threads. Doing the little counter turn so the threads seat right before actually screwing down is a lifesaver.

So in 20min you did yourself the first time? Apple cannot train their technicians to do this to support their own product in months?!?
I'm so glad that there are people putting up against apple and their nonsense, thank you linus I like you
Exactly. I think its just someone dropped the ball on creating official protocols to handle RMA and distribution of parts for this particular unit.
Probably longer than 20 minutes, but definitely within one filming session. Totally agree with you though!

PinKushin -- Haha, thank you, Captain Obvious.
well the way you talk about a heart surgeon, it seemed to imply that doing that wasn't normal procedure.
