I had a similar approach to hoarding tech. I started early 80s as a mainframe tech engineer/bench repairer. I had everything I could salvage back to Apple, Tandy, Amiga, PC, PC1, XT, etc...including racks of working data centre servers, Cisco switches from 5000 series all the way down to entry level models and Routers such as the 7000 series. My home workshop rooms were cabled with serial and ethernet. I also had some of the other business grade machines such as the Altos and AlphaMicro. OS's such as PICK, SCO xenix, SCO unix, CP/M, OS/2, the dozens of DOS variants, Netware, UnixWare, SunOS, HP-UX, OS/400.
Then I got married, moved from technician to management, and sold/gave away most of my tech and still ended up taking 800Kg of "junk" to the recyclers.

I got one working, shipped the other to packard bell for warranty return. Sold one for $600. Over the years I kept all my upgrades starting around the first Athlon. Doesn't even fill a reach in closet. After watching this video might get an old one running capable of installing those awesome Jane's flight sims from the 90s.... still have them all! Will need a month to read the flight manual for Jane's F15.

@@lindabryant2695 Don't feel too old, I still use 8" floppy drives. The very first computer I worked on was controlled by a valve system or better known as a Vacuum Tube computer, that was programmed through a Hollerith punch card system. No keyboards or monitors back then, and any mention of a mouse in those days meant you had a definite rodent problem!! We all thought of each progressive upgrade or new system as being cutting edge. Of course the newer generations laugh at us, just like their offspring will do at them! PS, The early 5 1/2" drives had a capacity of only 160 KB (single sided), 360 KB maximum in low density and 1.2 MB in high density came later. You might be getting mixed up with the initial 3.5 Drives, they were 720k capacity. Guess after saying all that if you are as old AF, II must be older than F%&k!!! LOL Have a great day!!

@@lindabryant2695 Actually, no, it was probably either 360 KB (double density) or 1.2 MB (high density). The 3.5" disks were 720KB (DD) or 1.44 MB (HD). By the time I got my first PC (486 SLC2/66, 4 MB RAM, 200 MB HD and a CD-ROM!) in 1994, 5.25" was generally dead, but I actually got one for it later on just to run old software with. Having said that, my "beast" blew my dad's 286 IBM PS/1 that he had gotten 4 years prior out of the water 😂 (not to mention those Apple II computers I used in grade school with Number Munchers and Oregon Trail). I might have a PC with an 8 core processor with 32 GB RAM and 20 TB in hard drive space now, but I do admit to missing the old days every now and then...
