The shoulders... for whatever reason the 90s sculptors really kind of dropped the ball on lots of figures by placing the shoulders too low. I looked at a lot of figures from that era, hoping to buy some, and can't get over how bad some of them are. A few have them so low they're practically down by what would be the base of the ribs. Street Fighter movie series Ken is probably one of the worst examples, but even something like the talking Cobra Commander mold has them just a bit too low. I can't understand why this happened, maybe a new sculptor came on board that didn't quite get it, or someone was doing it on purpose, but with the earlier figures sculpted just fine I can't understand why no one at Hasbro never caught the mistake. I want to say it's related to some of the gimmicks at the time, but even figures without those spring-loaded attacks have low shoulders.
Again, another great and informative review. I loved this figure when I got it in 1994 because it reminded me of the original 13. Just a quick question, the scene were you have the 13 saluting Colton what did you use for the background? It looks like a plastic mat from an old playset like the Mad Scientist Monster Lab. Any who, keep up the great work.
The background in my Blip.Tv review is the inside of a knock-off action figure carrycase. It's by Tara toys from 1984 called the "Combat Play Command Post and Jumbo Collectors Case".
I was able to snag a KB Ad back then. They had it taped to the shelf and I asked if I could have it. This figure is about the only reason I got any of the 1993-1994 figures because you had to have proofs of purchases rather than flag points to get him or the 12" figure.
I really should have mentioned that. It really looks bad in photographs, but not too bad in-hand. It was definitely the reason why I didn't pick up any of the other 30th Salute figures.
Nice when I got my 1994 Cobra Viper i got that order form inside the box but I eventually opened it :p I read the booklet and i wondered if the Joseph Colton figure was expensive in 3 3/4 inch and it was! O.O come on! this is the real G.I. Joe were talki'n here! :D
I dig the cheesy retroness of this Joe . I think I stopped buying Joes a year or two before 1994 . In 1996 I picked up a Kenner 3 figure G.I. Joe pack that included reprints of Snake Eyes , Lady Jay , and Shadow . It was mispackaged with two Snake Eyes , and no Lady Jay .

The thing I don't like about him and Action Marine are the low shoulders of that torso mold, looks so unnatural.

formbx257 Why did they use those shoulders for this mold?

you finally got gen colton , was it expensive? The one I got was around $20 after shipping.
It was a trade. I guess around $20-30 worth of figures and parts.
Some gen colton's I observed on ebay were as high as $50 - in pkg. Kinda steep.
that giant m-60 does look ridiculous, definatlly a fail in that area.
