I had a question. If you want to pull this mod off to do you need to purchase another lense? If so where can I purchase what I need to pull this off? I too don’t have any experience with modding and was wanting to learn. Thank you
i’m gonna do this for my gameboy color because this is the only mod i’ve seen so far that is so simple and easy also the changing of the brightness by tapping the sensor is so rad! can’t wait to do this myself :)
Ordered it and just did it . Looks amazing . I’m useless at doing there kind of things , but this was easy enough for me to do and the results are great !! Super happy .
Might get this, thanks for covering it! Sure, you can play GB/GBC games on the SP, but I always liked the the game boy color more and how more comfortable it is with it's design.
The white border on the green gameboy is just too much, I’m a firm believer that if you want the lcd to pop on any handheld device you need to have it paired with a dark border, it also reduces reflection off that surface while playing in the dark, but to each his own I guess.
Thanks for the video. Just ordered mine and excited to try out the mod. Just started re-soldering batteries and wanted to try a new thing with console mods.
@@IvanusPrime The screen that MadLittlePixel used is smaller than the original screen. There is another IPS mod, that is full size and the same size as the original screen. That's the one I will be using for my GBC.
@@TooFurious4 Not to mention the full size is as simple as this one. No soldering required, trim the shell (or buy a pre-trimmed one), just attach the screen to the ribbon then the ribbon to the gbc screen connector and here you go.
Glad I found this video! My mom actually dropped off my original game boy color from when I was a kid. Giving it a complete overhaul. Transparent black shell with orange buttons and this LCD screen!! Can’t wait!

Has anyone got a current link? Console 5 doesn't appear to carry this anymore. Was hoping I could find it somewhere and I'm not super sure what I'm looking for outside of the recommendation.
Hey just wanted to see if anyone can chime in as well. But I noticed on your unit and on my gameboy color. After doing that “mod” there’s like a slight ‘black bar’ at the top of the display. Kinda gives it the impression that the display is crooked? Idk if the bezel is supposed to look like that? But I only noticed it when I play on my Modded Gameboy DMG, and switch back to my Gameboy Color. That you really notice this ‘black bar’. If anyone knows please let me know lol. Maybe I’m just tripping, but you can notice it in your video at 5:25
I want to swap the screen in my GBC but now I'm worried about ripping the ribbon cable. I found a kit online with all of the necessary parts I'll need to do it. Now I'm worried I'll ruin it...
This even looks so much better than that awful one last year that had you looking at 3 or so bezels (the black bezel from the glass frame you're supposed to have, part of the plastic around the screen that the glass didn't cover, and then unused pixels on the screen). I think it's the one at 0:09... Yuck. This new one, much nicer! I also like how they cleverly replaced the fairly useless IR blaster with brightness control.
6:08 - Okay, so they could give you a glass piece that covers more of that unused top of the screen, but maybe that's just the camera angle playing a trick. Either way, still looks better than the 3 bezel monster.
I've been hitting up pawnshops for Nintendo handhelds. I recently was lucky to get not one but two Nintendo 3ds XL's. One of them is in good condition and the other is almost in the 8.5 grade spot and both have screen protectors but I'll be replacing all the screens anyway. But this pawnshop is literally buying these for $15 from people. I plan to spend a lot of time fixing these and making them into beasts. Their worth money now but will be worth more.
probably to compensate for something like maybe the pixel will look funny if it was bigger. like I heard the gba micro screen is amazing, but it is really tiny. I am guessing.
There is a lcd screen that the same size of the screen of the original gbc so no need to tape or get a new plastic in the front. well that's what i herd.
that site you got the kit from... where is this kit listed there... i mean this was 4 years ago... i assume they've just done away with any and all kits, cause there's nothing there anymore. where else can we find these? I replaced the shell of my Game Boy color with an amazing aftermarket shell. But in the process I think I cracked the screen. It no longer works, at least that's what I. Assumed. I bought a replacement screen on Amazon. Or so I think it was. It could also have been faulty for about $25. Also doesn't work so I feel like I'm out of options. Trying to figure out where the hell I can buy a legit. Good screen and that way. I know if it doesn't work this time, then I'm the one who fucked it up
Not a waste of money, you can get what you put into it if you decide to sell it... I'm highly considering doing this on the Gbc I just picked up to sell 😅

Buyer beware. I purchased this from the link Madlittlepixel posted. Definitely not an IPS screen. Color flips and shifts looking direct centered at it, have to tilt it back 30 degrees and even then color is off. I'm not retro perfectionist, but this is pretty shitty. I don't know maybe they gave Madlittlepixel an IPS screen and sold the junk screens to everyone else. Other than that it is good and easy drop in. I wouldn't have anything negative to say about, if it were not for the falsely stating that is IPS screen, when really it is 100% a TN screen, and not a good one at that. For the price and not an IPS screen, it isn't worth it. Still gave you a thumbs up though, cause your screen look fine to me, and as always good videos all around too.
Unclamp ribbon cable, take screws for mobo out, as you slide mobo out be mindful of ribbon cable and go with the flow. That ribbon is too short to be mounted or removed (safely)while mobo is screwed in. Also it's never a waste of money if it makes you happy.
