Interesting thing I noticed a few while uploading the video, the Gameboy was released in North America on July 31st 1989. 31 Years ago in a few days! Would you like to see some more mods in the future? I'll try to not ruin the devices in the process
I love all the sounds of clicking, stickers being pulled up, plastic being popped apart, scrubbing, screws being driven in, etc. It's not really ASMR but it's enjoyable and oddly calming. IMO music just ruins it; it's distracting, and 99% of the time people just use the same old public domain songs you've already heard a million times.

And get some fresh air into yourself, dammit! People really are living too much online nowadays. And it's messing our brains up, and our relationships. People need to live life first-hand. Even though it's annoying and hard work, where staying in is nice and warm and easy, and you can have the world brought to your couch. The last few decades have seen a terrifying decline in real life, and a surge in virtual, pretend life. And "virtual" doesn't just mean "computer", I mean fake, ersatz, relationships that are "as if" relationships, "as if" it was real, as if they were there in front of you, but they're not, and that makes a difference. Being near people physically makes a difference psychologically. People tend to edit and narrate their life stories differently, to people who weren't there and didn't see it. Anyway... I really adore how much work you really put into your videos. Great job ^_^
Old electronics: we used 6 commonly available screws to keep the entire case together and it hold up for 30 years and some Japanese boy's sweaty hands. New electronics: we use glue, screws with security heads requiring special tools and crapton of "warranty void" contraptions. You are lucky if your device will work for the entirety of warranty time. Repair? Are you crazy? We will swap the whole thing and worry about recycling later.
Old eletronics: Found in the forest after for 20 years, eletronics still in working order save corrotion of terminals. Can be easily opened and almost every component is switchable. New eletronics: Barely last until the end of warrant. Use screws designed by aliens and almost nothing can be replaced. Apple products are even designed to not be.
@@TheGuyFromHawaiiHiGh Yeah, screen that literally has layers that need to be glued together to work properly. Rest was easily accessible. I had a Gameboy colour as a kid and I can't even begin to describe how much I would have adored that backlight. I remember trying to play my GBC in the back seat of the car at night on the way home from places we'd gone trying to hold it in the street lights as they passed long enough to see what what happening 😅 Never worked very well
Aw man now I wanna try fixing an old Gameboy pocket I have laying around somewhere last I saw it it didn't turn on and there's an annoying black spot on the screen probably corrosion and screen burn is my guess.
I lost it when you threw your foot on the table wearing your gameboy socks and took out your game cartridge from within the sock. I absolutely loved that, your videos are amazing
You mean angling the screen to harness the power of any light coming in under your bedroom door from the hallway at 10:30 PM every night for a few years until backlights became a thing to see your game wasn’t enough?

The fact that this man can make me watch an almost 30 minute video about a console i never owned being filled with components i have never seen and getting cleansed with substances i have never heard about makes me realize how talented he is. Keep doing whatever magic you're doing
You’ve never heard of hydrogen peroxide? Wow.
The "Ducktor" said all repair costs get put on his bill! 🦆💰
*RIMSHOT* 😄🤣
well, it’s a bit on the beak but it works
Hahahahaha
This guy is the one person that needs to survive the coming apocalypse, he will be our only chance to reboot civilization.
And 8-Bit Guy
That's cause most people skipped the trade skills skill trees
That’s if we get attacked by killer Gameboys.
Isn't that what we are in right now???
At least civilization as we know it for sure lol
No offense human's but I am glad that I don't have to listen to talking or a loud background music.
I agree.
Me too
cringe, but agree
Cringe role player but I agree completely. It’s so peaceful.
Ye I agree, ignore the hate btw :p
Does anyone else find the sounds in these videos immensely relaxing? I swear I can fall asleep to this!
It’s so terrific to see old-school tech being made operational once again; especially game systems 🕹👍
"The front is slightly yellowed."
The front: Looks like it can hide in a tangerine pile.
"There is some corrosion on the terminals"
The terminals: are the color of the statue of liberty
i did not think it was white and just yellow with dirt on it
I thought the same. That front looks as yellow as Homer Simpson.
I thought the shit was yellow fr
I thought it was yellow and yellowed more
Shows a completely yellow front, description: "The front side is slightly yellowed", shows completely corroded terminals, description: "Battery terminals have some corrosion", never saw that much hope and optimism...
Honestly with the horrors he’s seen, this was light damage.
it looked like someone has been blowing smoke on that thing since '96
expert pure, i Love that, this is pure Wizard.
When i was 19 yrs old, i began to modify consoles.
And I am stunning when i See this Love to Detail.
Master Peace, Dude :-)
The music takes me back to my elementary days 🤣 I remember watching Pokémon when it first came out - I was in 5th grade, age 11! Got a game boy color and bought the red edition 🥰. I’m 34 now and my daughters play with my old cards & gameboy color. Super glad I kept it all!
The only problem I see here is you were a red edition person and not a blue edition person, which was clearly the best. :D
ShredPenguins hey back then I didn’t know Lol
Jay-Z Twin lol yes let’s
"Was I a good Game Boy?"
No, you ARE.
Nice
Let’s all just take a moment and realize the duck has the cleanest bill ever
Does this mean he has a clean bill of health? 🦆
@@tim-burrr
Stop
Clean bills of health aren't all they're _quacked_ up to be.
Thanks for this. I cleaned mine out and now it works with batteries and no more buzzing!
Man, you're making me love my major. This is both asmr, relaxing and useful, putting to practise what online education struggles to show.
I'm curious, what's your major??
@@ubetaromilktea Telecommunications. But the first year we were studying common subjects for engineering. What's yours?
I had a Gameboy colour as a kid and I can't even begin to describe how much I would have adored that backlight.
I remember trying to play my GBC in the back seat of the car at night on the way home from places we'd gone trying to hold it in the street lights as they passed long enough to see what what happening 😅
Never worked very well
I have one as well!
It's an atomic purple game boy color.
Im a 2000er kid so i litterally never saw one of this clean.. thats amazing
Aw man now I wanna try fixing an old Gameboy pocket I have laying around somewhere last I saw it it didn't turn on and there's an annoying black spot on the screen probably corrosion and screen burn is my guess.
@@someguy2297 yeah go for it!!
I'm also a 2000s kid but I was also just poor
This guy is straight up the toy repair man from Toy Story
Best comment :D
BROOI THOUGHT THE SAME
Indeed
Scratch, scratch, ding, pops, blings... Real restoration "music"! Thanks for no words!
That "GO! SUBSCRIBE!" from Pikachu was flipping brilliant. Made me lol 😂

Totally...
Same
💥😡
That's what got me to subscribe...
The way this guy handles the keys makes me feel like I'm watching a surgery expert in the act...
I lost it when you threw your foot on the table wearing your gameboy socks and took out your game cartridge from within the sock. I absolutely loved that, your videos are amazing
The game cartridge that was in his sock was Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition.
I would have killed for that backlight when i was a kid 😂
You mean angling the screen to harness the power of any light coming in under your bedroom door from the hallway at 10:30 PM every night for a few years until backlights became a thing to see your game wasn’t enough?
@@jayhenry3146 yup
Would you still kill now?
There was also a thing you could click it on and then you had light.
@@jayhenry3146 i would sneak the big dolphin torch we used to keep for power outages into my room so i could play it in bed lol
The ducktor is the duck with the most cleaned teeth ever!!
The Ducktor is the only duck with teeth. ^^
The ducktor's teeth have been brushed to non-existence.
This "ding" sound when you turn on the game box is literally my childhood
Skill, knowledge, patience and love made this $2 to $200, great job
The ducktor: **exists**

reddit wholesome keanu chungus moment
Kinda creepy to me not gonna lie.
"Some more rare Japanese kids hand sweat," had me rolling.
Lmfao me too
Later to be replaced with American Sock Leg Sweat when the cartridge was put back in.
That's commonly happen to everyone. That's true
Alright bro it wasn't that funny.
that shit wasn't funny
Deadlines at work have been super stressful. Happy I discovered your stuff! Laying down and watching your vids after work have really helped ease the stress. Big ups my friend!
Awesome video! Love how you also clearly outline everything you do and cross-reference other relevant videos in the description. Keep up the good work!
Me: "Oh a yellow GameBoy, how cute !"
- "The front side is *slightly* yellowed"
Me: _wait_
I know dude. I thought "slightly yellowed? My guy, that shit is brown!"
How do you write in diagonal
@@asrieldreemurr5300 If you mean italics, you need to bracket the word(s) with a line, like this one: _ Just be sure to include punctuation after the word within the lines, or it won't work.
@@whiterabbit75 ok_
I cant
"Slightly Yellowed."
Yeah that seems about right.
On the thumbnail I thought it was a yellow Gameboy Pocket that faded 😂
Its all those cheezies
@@DavidCurryFilms Me too. The Gameboy I owned as a kid was yellow, and it looked almost like this one if it had its colour faded 😄
Makes sense he's testing Pokémon Yellow, though B-)
Slightly yellow. Same color as his screwdriver case
What I love about this mod is that you're keeping the original LCD display. Good job
Honestly the most peaceful thing I've watched in a long time.
my guys got some of the shakiest hands in the game, yet he still solders like a champ!
It actually gives me hope, because I'm really into electronics stuff like this, but I have hopelessly shaky hands due to a condition I have. This video was very assuring. 😄
Soldering is like welding; it really ain’t hard, once you get the hang of it 💥👍
The solder joins leave a bit to be desired, a bit of flux and a clean soldering iron would go a long way to a really good join.
Well his solder tip looks like a nightmare… smh
Every decent technician knows the importance of clean tip…
It’s like a dentist with rotten teeth 😆
Definitely doesn't solder like a champ. Soldering iron tip was oxidized and so were his solder joints.
The amount of detail in this video is legendary. I love you.
Immaculate! I have watched this video many times and never tire of it. This is ART!
Your editing rocks! This whole experience you’ve created here is top notch. You’ve made a piece of art.
I’m pretty sure he has an editor who edit his videos lol
That "Ding" sound just get the dopamines going in my brain! 🤣 Childhood memories.
Yeah, sadly i lost my hearing after buying a PS 1 and 2 :)
Haha, same here. I think I yelled "YES!" when it finally dinged.

“You’re not going to die on me, damn you! LIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!”

Marvellous work on that poor little Gameboy - Thankfully you gave it the love that had been denied for far too long by its looks.

This isn't really a restoration channel. It's an ASMR channel.
Actually, it's a restorasmr channel.
He restored it didn’t he... and he does that for every video doesn’t he .... just because he doesn’t speak doesn’t make it asmr
@@kingskicks1640 Asmr also involves talking. I think they meant like “he’s not talking and allowing the sounds to be heard clearly, and he didn’t put loud or obnoxious music over the video”.
@@holyroller67 asmrestoration?
asmr channels are fucking shit, this isnt asmr because he doesnt speak or put music in his videos. nor it says ASMR
Love seeing older tech get brought back to life like this quite brillant.
