Hi, I’m sorry to bother you with this question but I don’t know where to turn. You’ve helped me so many times in the past I’m a seller on eBay and I sold something that I cannot find. I want to refund the buyer. How do I do that?
First, send the buyer a nice note and let them know what's going on. If you have something similar, but better, offer them that at the same cost. If they don't want anything else, you'll have to cancel the sale and refund them. Go to the Seller Hub and find TASKS. In the TASKS box, you should see orders waiting to ship. Open that. There will be a little down arrow just to the right of the item that you can't find. When you click on that, CANCEL ORDER is one of the choices. Keep in mind, eBay dings you for that. So, you don't want to do that very often. I'm sorry that's happening. 😞@@user-ci6uw7of6n

I retired at 62 I'm heading towards 63 doing this so I can work for my self the wife still has a full-time job and is helping with the computer we both encourage each other. I've been struggling with homelessness off and on since 2016 when my autistic husband went to prison. I was working full time, but last May I found out that due to lack of food I have a critically low iron level. I no longer have the energy to work with children. A lady I clean for allows me to live in her storage room while building my ebay business. I'm using my knowledge of toys and what children like as my starting point. I wasn't selling enough to keep my store open, so I'm binge watching informational videos like this one to see what I can do to improve and succeed. I'm not a quitter, but I'm really tired from the journey.
I'm versed mostly in comics and a bit in books (I'm Italian), but if I can be of help with some "across the pond" suggestion I'd be glad to help. I have been selling at intervals to offset expenses as I am trying to set up a job on my own, but I think that with full dedication it's always possible to succeed using eBay, although fees for us overseas have become crazy high and pretty much kill sales of any object under $20.

I've never hidden the fact that we spent a large portion of my childhood homeless. For me, the only option was to keep moving forward. I had lots of days where I seemed to take more steps back than I did forward. But, after a lifetime of the struggle, I'm moving a little easier. But that fear of homelessness has never left me. It's a driving force.
I'm not a newbie to reselling, but boy have I experienced many obstacles that have kept me from succeeding. I'm not failing, but I'm not where I want to be. Sometimes it feels like everyone is playing in a certain arena and I'm not part of it. I never, ever quit and this video is an excellent reminder to keep going until I make it happen. I've made every single mistake here. And, I probably haven't made all of them for the last time. But I'm way further along than I was.

Best of luck with your journey, im planning to get 20 items to resell and listing 1 or two a day so the algorithm gets time to see the consistency and place me in a higher standing. I heard many reseller say the first few months can be hard but consistency is key . Also, don't forget to add a thank you sticker, card, or even a handwritten note to thank the customer for beginning your journey , this will also help with feedback and rating which is very important to get started off .

Just list 1 good thing. And have yourself set up for 2 day shipping because it will help your anxiety. You can get the sale and take your time. No pressure. List easy to ship stuff first. One at a time you can do it. It's like cooking or any other hobby.

It can be overwhelming. I send everyone over to @notyourdadscpa He's a tax professional and I REALLY recommend getting someone like that to help you get things set up right.
I need to surround myself with some poeple who want to buy something. Ebay and other market places are tanking right now.
Ebay is blowing up right now for me, but it's been slow. In my case, I just have better stuff right now. But it is ALWAYS a good idea to diversify.

The video I've given the link to here should help. But, you don't have to open a formal business to start selling on eBay. If you have an eBay account, you can just start. I would recommend talking to a tax professional, but you will be operating as a sole proprietorship automatically. Again, a tax professional can make sure you cross your Ts and dot your Is. The hurdles to entry into this as a job are really, really low.

Scott and Mel.. I was notified by eBay that I'm now a TOP SELLER! Yeah! It's taken me a year, as I started in Jan '23 but really it was Feb when I started after getting set up. Still not where I wish to be, but I'm thrilled AND it was because of YOU that I am here! I've followed your advise and it's paying off. Congratulations to you!!! Seriously, ALL the credit is yours. I have many videos with over 100,000 views and the vast majority of the viewers haven't listed their first own yet. I believe they can and will if they want to, but they haven't yet. YOU are now top rated. It's pretty clear to me who should be patting themselves on the back. Spoiler alert, it isn't me.
As far as paying for 6 months at a time for a channel membership, I am not aware of a way to do that. UA-cam takes the same percentage either way. And, I'm beyond humble that you would want to. Truly.
Scott: I signed up for the week trial which they'll charge me at the end of the week. I can't find a photo straightening tool, a hue adjustment and I heard that it doesn't work on a laptop, Most use it from their phone. Many that I've check out use the phone for editing, heck I don't even text. Surely, what I'm on trial for in Photoroom isn't the Pro or paid option, and I don't know how or if I can access it. Thanks for sharing your expertise through your videos. I have a question. I have a couple different eBay accounts I've used for buying. The account in my maiden name has more feedback than the one I created since getting married. Will it matter (tax docs, etc.) if I use my account with my maiden name for selling? I started a new account because I couldn't figure out how to change my name as owner on my old one when I got married. Thanks a bunch?
I'll preface this by saying, I'm not a tax guy. I wouldn't think using an old account would create any issue for you. And you should be able to update your account, too.

Templates are probably a good thing if you list similar items often. I sell such a variety that I've never created them... even though they would probably help
@@TheChaChingKing I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. Well, we do list a lot of similar things, especially right now selling Christmas ornaments, shiny Price in German ornaments. And I think that’s probably what I was thinking too. However, after Christmas, I will be listing multiple types of vintage things like Pyrex, old toys, and many other things so I may just keep this in mind get started on one before Christmas next year and see how it goes for the time being without a template.

These advices are correct in general, but I do not see them particularly aimed at eBay. It's clear that discovering a method that works for you implies an attitude of confidence and an individuation of objectives and gradual steps, but from the title I expected something eBay-specific.
I think that's fair. Almost everything on my channel is centered around eBay. Ands, that's what I was thinking about when working on the video. But this one probably has a broader reach and would be applicable to other ventures.

Hi, Scot. I'm a university student and recently started selling on ebay as a side hustle, and I'd like to ask you for your advice , given your experience. I have already used several times the trick of selling similar and ending the original listings, and I do notice a spike in views when I do that, but should I still do it if an item has observers? Or should I be patient to not lose on a possible sale? Thanks for your very informative videos, you really boosted me into getting on ebay!
I wouldn't worry too much about losing watchers. If you've sent out offers to watchers and it didn't sell, your watchers aren't buyers. End and relist if that's working.

random question..what if you were given someone else's ebay liquidation and you want to unload it to a ebay reseller? where do you find the ebay resellers?

How long did it take to sell your first item and what was it? What was your experience?
In 1999, when I first sold on ebay, I sold some mesquite lumber off my lumbermill. Everything back then was done on 7 day auctions. So, my first item took exactly 7 days. I contacted the winner. He promised to mail me a check. So, I went ahead and shipped him the mesquite without waiting. A few days later, I got his check. I always used to ship as soon as I had contact with them. Didn't get scammed once. Ask me if I'd do that today. 😆
Right after typing this I made my first sale, tried out media like DVDs and found some super good priced board games. Hopefully games sell faster

Between the new $600 dollar tax rule and ebay fees its just not worth the time and effort anymore to sell on ebay. This is only my opinion, i encourage anyone willing to put in the effort to give it a shot

So frustrated here with eBay...One of "those" customer claimed a pair of jeans was not as listed, but the photo they sent showed the same as a listing photo. We have to accept returns, but they sent back with the seams ripped out.
Clearly don't have to refund that, right? She consistently persisted, so we contacted eBay & were told twice we were correct (obviously). She contacted eBay, and they took the money from our account to refund her. We appealed. They sided with her, saying it couldn't be proven that she did this. We are top-rated sellers and have been for years. Anyone have an idea of what to do?
That's truly flawed. It's rare, but eBay does just flat out get it wrong sometimes. If you've already appealed, I doubt that there's much that you can do at this point. Still, I would reach out to eBay for Business on Facebook and let them know they were not returned in the same condition you sent them in. I don't know that it will help, but it can't hurt. I hate that for you. I really do.

There are several benefits to having a store. And those benefits change depending on the store. For us, I love being able to run a sale. Here's a video that helps you decide if you want/need a store.
