    This week I got this ebay message from a purchaser who bought a microphone in a Plastic package that had never been opened:
    "This item is not the correct item as described in its packaging. This item has a Microphone from a different manufacture. Item delivered is not as described and different than the packaging it was delivered in. I am requesting a full refund."
    Following your good advice I got back to him with the following two messages:
    "No problem. Sorry about your concerns. Go ahead and process the refund through ebay, send the item back, and we will issue the refund after we receive it."
    And I followed that up with this one:
    " I should also mention that we follow the common practice of videoing the products that we put in our packages, and any returned items are compared to the items in the video before processing the refund. Thanks and sorry again about your concerns." So far . . no word back for one week! Thanks for your help!!

    What a fantastic post!! I learn something new every time you make a post!! I just past my first year as a reseller and I have watched all of your videos and sometimes more than once. I love the secure password tip!! And the tax tip. I’m decluttering my house and have not had to go out to source yet. I downsized my home when my hubby died and didn’t want to do garage sales. So I am puzzled about taxes. I talked to a couple of tax people but they had no idea about reselling. So now I have some one that understands reselling!! Thank you more than you know. I’m 81 and live in Waco. So glad to know there are other resellers in Waco. Wish we had a club or some way to communicate to bounce off ideas or information or questions.. looking forward to your next “lesson “. 😅

    Took a digital photo course on a cruise ship many years ago. The teacher described accidental genius, taking several photos and picking the best. It's a great concept that has helped me greatly over the years.

    I listened to this ALL and its everything, the sourcing part i even replayed. This is a video ill have on to help keep me motivated as well and remind myself the hard work that goes into this. I sometimes *recycle used* priority packaging, in a pinch. *Not the new or unused stuff.* It may not be completely obvious to the buyer that it's actually recycled (depends on how observant and/or judgmental they are), but I just hate throwing away good packaging material regardless of the source. I don't get a lot of it though, so it doesn't happen very often. I've reused the bubble mailers in place of bubble wrap, and turned boxes inside out in order to get a little more use out of them. I returned all of my surplus free priority boxes to the main office, rather than throw them away.

      This brings up a brilliant question. I've wondered if that's OK. It should be. It makes sense. But I wonder what the rules are and if they are enforced.

    Love listening to your advice Scot. Even 5 years in, these are good reminders. For time off: I am changing gears in my biz, shifting away from used goods and into WS. In this process, my biz slowed dramatically. For now I have weekends off and loving it. So much time to spend with my kids.

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  2 місяці тому +1

      The downside to things slowing down is that you make less. The upside is that you have time to breathe and decide what you want tomorrow to look like. We are in the process of changing up things, too. I still love the incredibly rare and valuable items. BUT, I need to incorporate more items that have a higher sell through rate.
      I'm convinced that when we stop learning, we should just stop doing this.
      By the way, I've noticed you've been doing more educationally-oriented videos. I love it. I still think you are just about the most creative videographer in our niche.

    Yes, get out of the house go exercise, go for a walk see the sun 🌞 it’s kind of weird because some of these sellers have a lot of time but then they don’t actually get out even though some people are working like a full-time job and they wish they could be outside. You know that kind of mentality, so yes you’re right move your body take those breaks GET a MASSAGE 💆‍♀️

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  2 місяці тому

      I'm super guilty of it myself. You get in a groove and work until your brain and body just quit. When, in reality, your brain and body both last longer if you are getting enough movement during the day.

The lady who bought it was 100% a reseller. She told us that's what she was doing. She probably got 5k. GOOD FOR HER! I still got what I wanted. She just had different connections.

      That size is VERY hard to ship reasonably through the post office. That's one I'd ship through UPS. You run into what's called "Dimensional Weight." In other words, you won't pay for 6 pounds. You're going to pay for a bunch of extra pounds because of the size of the box.

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  2 місяці тому +1

      You still get the same number of "free" listings each month. You don't accumulate any additional fees unless the number you are listing plus the number that is renewed exceeds the free amount. How many you get free depends on whether or not you have a store and which store if you do. If you do not have a store, I think it's 250 per month between new listings and listing that are renewed. After the 250 it's about 35 cents each.

    I have listed a few music albums. I clean the album, sleeve and take detailed pictures. But the most time consuming part is, I listen to the entire album and determine if there are any skips. If i can repair the skip, i describe where it was on the album. I charge more for my time but less than the new released or remastered album. It is worth it?

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  2 місяці тому +1

      It truly is a matter of how you want to spend your time, the value of the album before & after, and whether or not you enjoy the process.
      Before I started UA-cam, I had a LOT more time to spend repairing items. Some items, like hats, I enjoyed the process enough that it didn't matter if I just made a lot more doing it. I simply don't have the time to do that anymore.

    I notice some sellers have incredibly low shipping fees. Are they eating that cost or are they using a 3rd party service that gives them shipping discounts?

    • @TheChaChingKing

      Some sellers include the cost of shipping in their item cost. So, if I sell a video game for $15 and $5 shipping, the shipping is $5. Another seller might sell the same game for $20 with free shipping. Obviously, they aren't actually shipping it free, it's just cooked into the cost of the item.

      It's a question that LOTS of people have. Definitely not just you. Check to see how many are listed. Then, look at how many have sold. If there are 50 listed and 50 sold, that's a 100% sell-through rate...which is terrific. If there's 50 listed and only 5 sold...10%...that's awful. If there's 50 listed and 500 sold...it will sell just about as fast as you get it listed.
      Sell-through rate is king!
