Such a helpful video! It's a little advanced but for people having trouble getting the item color accurate using their phone, they might want to know they can set their color calibration easily using a grey card. Scott, I have an attention to detail in most everything I do, and I try to incorporate that into any items that I list for sale online and you are correct, "pictures do sell your items" and it amazes me how many photos on listings that are out of focus from sellers.

Hey Scot: Another great video >> One thing I would add would be to take as many photos as eBay allows, currently 24 photos are allowed. I take photos of an item that I would like to see if I were looking for the same item, I look at other seller’s listings and I will try to outdo any competition that I might have on the same item with better and more photos. Good photos take a while to edit and crop, the more photos the better, because most buyers will only look at the photo and not read the description. All photos are taken with my phone/camera, I will then upload all the photos on to my PC to start the editing process. I use two set ups with multiple lights to help eliminate shadows. Of course, I will prep the item by cleaning and something I will use polish to make it stand out. I sell a lot of vintage vacuums. Many times I will also upload a video showing the item working, this is by far the best way to show the buyer that I have tested the item and the does work correctly, I try to keep videos under one minute.
100% great advice. I completely agree with trying to create a superior listing. I think it helps sell items and keeps them sold. A really clear listing keeps the buyer from being surprised. As a side note, I worked for a brief time after high school repairing vacuums. 😆

Amazing Insights and a very informative video, I would love to know your insight when making listings about a rug, what should be taken care off and different angle photos of a rug
Rugs are tough! LOL Depending on the size of the rug, I have the best results when hanging them on the wall flat. It allows be to get back and take really good photos. I have a wall large enough and that's the key. I'll see if I can't include something like this in an upcoming video.
I'm interested to know more of the workflow - Do you create the listing from the same phone, or do you transfer the photos to a PC? Or, do you transfer to a PC and pull the photos from a cloud service (like Google Photos) that is synched to the phone? That would make a good sequel to an excellent starter video.
Thanks so much! I usually take pictures on my phone and transfer them to the computer. I haven't done a video on it because I'm not consistent. 😆 Sometimes, I upload directly from my phone. I could maybe make a video on how many different ways there are.
Hey Scott! Thank you for everything, from shipping, to pictures and packaging. I appreciate you! Could you do an update video on including shipping in the item with free shipping and things to watch for? Still learning but im enjoying having my own store! Made a few sales already!
Informative video. What are your thoughts of putting a carousel video in one of the picture slots since I have twenty-four to use? Currently, I use my Nikon D7200 DX-format DSLR camrea with an Foldio3 Light Box with blue tooth controlled Foldio3 Smart Turntable along with an extra Halo-Bar Set, Or use my Samsung Galaxy S23+ Phone? Which setup do you think will work the best? I used my Nikon + Foldio3 setup for taking photographs of my Geckos and Boas that we sold at our online store.
With the significant compression that eBay uses when the pictures are uploaded, I don't know that the average buyer will see much of a difference in the end product. It'll be there, but will it be noticeable for the person looking at a reduced image on a 720 monitor? My Nikon is an older one. It's a D3300. It'll still crush most phone cameras. I love the light box and a turntable. I use a turntable for some of my Amazon review videos. If it's just as convenient, use the better equipment. If it creates a lot of extra work, use your phone. I use my phone. One the first question, I haven't tried to upload a carousel picture format, but I love the idea.
@@TheChaChingKing I keep my small photography studio presently set up in one of my unused rooms. Doing this it allows me the ability to shoot any time I'm ready. Thank you for your input. I guess I will shoot at a lower 1080 settings. What about a short 360-degree carousel video?
Thanks. What kind of overheard light bulb ya'll be using ya'll? 100w or soft light? Plus, should the overheard light have a glass cover, or should I remove it and have raw unfiltered light? In conclusion, thank ya'll for ya'lls videos!
Thank you!! Please do make another video, It would be helpful for me. Yesterday I was unable to crop on the eBay app. Thanks so much for all you do for us!! Brenda
Another thing to consider when cropping. eBay compresses the pictures when you upload them. So, if you upload and then crop, you'll lose a lot more detail than if you crop on your phone/computer and then upload.
I shot a lot of the footage with a Samsung S22. When you see me taking pictures with my phone, my wife recorded me on her phone...which is also an S22. In my office, I filmed with a Sony ZV-1. I have a Blue Yeti microphone mounted to an adjustable swing arm on the wall. Not perfect sound, but good. I also use an Aperture Amaran 60D light with a large lantern on it in my office.
And tips on how to get your phone camera to take proper pictures of black/blue/gray shirts, especially when you get close up? I find my camera can't get it right unless I'm zoomed way out. If I get close, the colors get wrecked.
UGH...I used to fight that SOOOOO hard. My solution was a better light and a better phone. I use a Samsung S22, if that matters. And I'm using a NEEWER 16" light ring. Still, if I have NO natural light, blue is the hardest color for me to photograph.
Oh boy....clear glass is SOOOO tough. It's so tough. You get the best results with a light box. You really have to eliminate shadows and have a background that disappears. But clear glass is not something I'm an expert with.
Truth be told, I haven't played with it enough to use it yet. I've seen others using it and it is really promising. I can absolutely think of some items that it would really benefit.
Yes. I lay one down and lean one against the wall. Or, in this case, the one in the back is being held in place by the drawer on the back of the cabinet.
Thanks for so much valuable information. It's worth considering that you can lose color quality, pixel count, and overall photo quality with apps that remove backgrounds or create collages. Therefore, their setting should be checked before extracting the modified image. It is best if it is a setting that matches the original or average Ebay requirement. If the images are uploaded to Ebay with the maximum number of pixels, the quality may work slower for some buyers because it requires a certain quality of the Internet for download speed.
Black is SO tough. Too much light washes everything out. Too little light and every detail disappears. I have the best luck with black when the background isn't too bright white. Too white and the camera tries to adjust to that...killing the black. Black really benefits from tons of natural light and a slightly off white background. It's a balancing act for sure.
Try an experiment with your ISO settings. One black shirt + 3 different settings and then decide which is best. Then with that best setting, experiment how closely your lights are to the shirt. You can change angles of the lights too. I promise its worth the hassle because black clothes are so popular with buyers. But I still hate photographing black so I stick to higher $$ items.
I have had Neewer lights since I first bought lights. Ring lights throw a lot of light and you can take the picture through the center of the light. This is an affiliate link for a good one. You could just look on Amazon if you don't want to use an affiliate link. amzn.to/3EvH9GT
Ugh...dark colors are really, really hard. You need two good lights. LED panel lights with adjustable temperatures. Or...really good natural light. But it's tough.
As long as you have a clear shipping label, it really doesn't matter. Shoe boxes tend to not be very strong, so I wouldn't ship something fragile in one, though.
Hello, I just discovered your channel via this video. I am embarrassed to admit this, but I thought, since it seems like we use similar photographing techniques, maybe you could tell me what you think about the speed that I have in listing. Because I am pretty frustrated by it. I’ve been doing this for a long time - not making a living off of it - but I do know what I’m doing in general on eBay. BUT I had a batch of utensils that I was working through much more slowly than I thought, so a couple days ago, I decided to time myself. I like to take photographs and then immediately list. If I don’t do that, I seem to forget things and have to go back and look at the object. So when I timed myself, I got 3 utensils photographed and listed in one hour. Eek!! The next day I timed myself and got 4 done. And I felt like I was working at a pretty decent speed through the whole thing. Is this incredibly slow, as it seems to me like it must be? And if so, do you have any tips just off the top of your head, or something I might be overlooking that’s making me going at a turtle pace? If not, that’s OK. But I am just kind of curious if that seems really slow to you. Thanks, haha!
You got 3 photographed and listed in an hour? That's not fast...at all. BUT, that's about how fast I list. I am of a different school of thought that most eBayers. I have never focused on speed or efficiency of listing. I have ZERO desire to crank out 50 listings a day. I have built my entire business around increasing my average sale price without drastically increasing my item cost. I think I've focused on that far more than most people. My thought process is that I'd rather list 5 or MAYBE 10 items a day that are worth around $75 each than I would figure out how to list 75 $10 items a day. So, instead of developing processes that maximize every step, I've tried to study to maximize the value of every dollar I spend on inventory. If you follow me in Instagram, you probably noticed a recent sale of mine. I bought a box of old soda cans for $10. They sold for over $2300. I made enough on them that I was able to go find the people who had the garage sale and give them more money. Bottom line. If you are interested in increasing your listing speed, I'm not the best guy to help. And Melody is slower than I am. LOL Our entire business is focused on studying what sells and learning how to make more money with less investment of time and money. :-)
Being a perfectionist is a real problem...sometimes 4 hours fly by doing research, photos, listing lol back to photos, more research etc, it's hilarious. And that's for just one item😂
My samsung phone does not photograph some colors accurately. It has trouble with some blues and aqua especially. I spend a lot of time editing those photos to get the color accurate. I just bought a point & shoot camera on ebay to hopefully solve this problem. Accuracy is important for customer satisfaction.
Ive been a buyer on Ebay since the early days. This is just FYI but I wont buy things that have floor shots - and I can guarantee there are more than just me who are like that. Its just the idea that I find problematic. Ive had the usual people chime in with how clean their floors are.....well, its the gravity problem. Everything gets sucked down to the floor. Even after they have been freshly sterilized (which nobody does). Im not saying this to condescend - Im saying this to genuinely be helpful bc theres many things I wanted on Ebay that I passed on bc of the floor shots.
I don't think there's anything condescending in your comment at all. And I don't disagree with you at all. I'd be shocked if there aren't others that feel exactly the same way.
I use a chopstick to point out flaws, rather than my finger. Just an idea! Great video! Thx!

@@TheChaChingKing yeah I have a S23. I fight blues and blacks all day long.
Do you have tips for photographing clear glass and reflective items?
Oh boy....clear glass is SOOOO tough. It's so tough. You get the best results with a light box. You really have to eliminate shadows and have a background that disappears. But clear glass is not something I'm an expert with.
thank u uncle great tips!!!!!!
How do you feel about the new AI feature in PhotoRoom? Are you using it? I kinda' like it for my main/opening photo.
Truth be told, I haven't played with it enough to use it yet. I've seen others using it and it is really promising. I can absolutely think of some items that it would really benefit.
Wow - what a great and concise video that will help a lot of people! Love the tips.
Thanks so much!
Great content! Thank you 😊
Glad you liked it!
How do you use foam board? Two together?
Yes. I lay one down and lean one against the wall. Or, in this case, the one in the back is being held in place by the drawer on the back of the cabinet.
Yes. I would like to see your photos. I plan to start selling part-time. I have an Android phone. I can't afford an iPhone at this time. Thanks.😢
I use an Android and have NO desire to switch to Apple.
100% agree. More and more I'm convinced that a really clear photo is more important than a really pretty photo.
How about ironing if it's wrinkled? That would be a good one!
I could probably do a "prep" video at some point.
I struggle with purses. That would definitely help me!
Photographing black clothes is my biggest problem 😢
Black is SO tough. Too much light washes everything out. Too little light and every detail disappears. I have the best luck with black when the background isn't too bright white. Too white and the camera tries to adjust to that...killing the black. Black really benefits from tons of natural light and a slightly off white background. It's a balancing act for sure.
Mine too. Sometimes they look black but most of the time the photos are inconsistent. I use an iPhone. Any advice is appreciated
Agreed, none of my black clothes sell! And I’m not a great photographer but I do use white backgrounds and a photo app. Black is so hard!
I don't sell blk ya'll
Ty for ur video
If I don't have a place that has adequate lighting for shooting what equipment should I get?
I have had Neewer lights since I first bought lights. Ring lights throw a lot of light and you can take the picture through the center of the light. This is an affiliate link for a good one. You could just look on Amazon if you don't want to use an affiliate link. amzn.to/3EvH9GT
Wonderful. Thanks for all your educational content!@@TheChaChingKing
Sir, you Rock 🤟
Shoes! Can you do a video on how to photograph shoes?
I can do that!
can you show how you do photo room?
I probably could. I'm not an expert at it, though. I think it'll do a LOT more than what I ask of it.
What brand and model android phone do you use? I'm in the process of trying to decide which one will be best for photos?
I have a Samsung S22. It's been great. I may update it soon because my son's friend needs a new phone. I'll pass mine down to him.
@@TheChaChingKing Thank you for responding so quickly, that was a very big help! All the best!
I believe you said that you use your Samsung Galaxy S22 Phone. Is it an Ultra / + or just the regular one. Thanks.
Just the regular one.
Do you have a link to the “inshot” app you mentioned?
I don't. I found it in my app store on android.
@@TheChaChingKing thanks!!
Your shirt 💣
I'm having problems with dark clothes, it doesn't get the color right. What do you think I should do?
Ugh...dark colors are really, really hard. You need two good lights. LED panel lights with adjustable temperatures. Or...really good natural light. But it's tough.
@@TheChaChingKing any recommendations?
Asa far as led lights? I know they have come a long way.
Hey Chachingking! I was wondering if you knew if its allowed to ship just a shoe box with stuff in it. Or does it have to be an actual box?
As long as you have a clear shipping label, it really doesn't matter. Shoe boxes tend to not be very strong, so I wouldn't ship something fragile in one, though.
4:50 How do you avoid creating a shadow on the items you photograph?
Overhead lighting really helps. Natural ambient light is also key. That's why it's so important to try different areas to see what works best.
I would love a photo list
Hello,
I just discovered your channel via this video.
@@TheChaChingKing ok. Thank you for the insight!
Being a perfectionist is a real problem...sometimes 4 hours fly by doing research, photos, listing lol back to photos, more research etc, it's hilarious. And that's for just one item😂
PS: Scott you are the best❤
Very interesting!
Heard anything about the Florida resellers are doing
I haven't talked to any personally. On the few videos I've seen on UA-cam, things seemed ok.
Please show best way to photograph long pants.
My samsung phone does not photograph some colors accurately. It has trouble with some blues and aqua especially. I spend a lot of time editing those photos to get the color accurate. I just bought a point & shoot camera on ebay to hopefully solve this problem. Accuracy is important for customer satisfaction.
I have the S22 and it's been way better than the S9 Active it replaced. My old one had the exact same problem you've described.
Love your shirt! 😂
Thanks! $1 at the Bins. :-) I don't know what I'll ever do if I have to pay full price for a shirt.
@@TheChaChingKing Same! I've learned so much about fashion bc of reselling, but I'm still a T-shirt and jeans kinda gal.
Really great information. Also, you have a great t-shirt on. Long live the walking dead.
It had some brilliant storylines.
What's on his shirt?
It's a compilation of The Walking Dead characters.
