    Using 3 day shipping when first staring is the best. Why? Maybe you you don’t have the right box size, or packing materials, what ever. You have that handling time. But remember this one thing "under promise and over perform." If you ship the same day your item was purchased and send it off that day, the customer is always surprised when they get it early. Buy doing that you have over performed what was promised. And your reviews will reflect that. Of course packing properly and all that too.

    I wish we could give you some kind of award for making these videos. I had my 1st ebay sale today. A trading card. I made about 20 drafts of the listing because I had no idea what I was doing. I watched dozens of videos on how to post, how to ship, etc. When it sold TODAY i was terrified lol. I got to the customs form part of the sale, had no idea what to do. HS Tariff code?! WTH is that?

    I include free shipping, (and 1 day) I think it helps get a top seller badge, and if you get multiple orders you can really save some money. If shipping wasn’t included, for multiple orders people would expect combined shipping costs.

If you sell on other platforms I would love to see you show the differences with the shipping in each. They all are set up differently and it helps others to know the differences. I have a few things to add. If you're selling books/CDs/DVDs Media Mail is not insured (hence the lower rates). When I ship CDs I sandwich them in cardboard in a bubble pouch for extra protection. The plastic jewel cases can be broken. You can schedule a USPS pickup at your home online, except for media mail. If I catch my mail carrier when he gets here I just hand over smaller media mail in person. If you need shipping labels immediately the post office has the 8.5 X 11 double labels for domestic shipping and they don't charge sales tax as they're a federal facility.

    THANK YOU for another great video! Your explanations are always clear and helpful to so many! We live in the North Eastern US. I would love to try to come up with a flat rate for my items under 12oz but prices can vary so much due to being far from many states. I tend to get a lot of buyers from West Coast. Flat rate probably not an option for me? Appreciate your thoughts!

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  9 місяців тому +3

      That's definitely harder. You could set the flat rate at the CA destination. You'd always have the option of refunding the difference if it was way off. As long as that shipping rate wasn't so high that it killed your sales.
      Thank you for the kind words!

    I’m in Hawaii, so I’m already far from the US continent. I think flat rate (probably not priority) ground advantage makes sense. But I might do free shipping knowing my item has to include shipping. What do you think? This is scary, but I think you’re right - a little experience will lead to confidence. Thank you for this!

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  8 місяців тому +2

      If you do flat rate or free shipping from Hawaii, I'd probably use a shipping calculator and use something like New York as the destination. That should give you a number that's pretty close to as expensive as it would get. And, of course, compare the USPS Priority Flat Rate options, too. Use things like the padded flat rate envelope and see how much those would cost.

    Im about to start selling a pretty large collection of toys. I know I may be over preparing but ive spent a few months just planning out photos, packaging and storage. I decided to go with recording everything in a spreadsheet, documenting the photos, weight and assign everything a unique ID number. Ill add items to the spreadsheet as I photo and tag them with an Identifier. Ill pre pack immediately after photos are taken, match the ID number to the boxes and store my packed items in a tote so they can ship immediately when sold without having to pack orders on the fly. If people buy a bulk lot then I just put those smaller boxes in a larger box. Now I just need the time to implement any of that. 🤣🤣

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  8 місяців тому +2

      I'm just not that organized. LOL It would definitely make shipping easier. The only thing to plan for in this scenario is customer questions. If the packages are sealed and you have to take it out...that's a pain. I know from experience. So, when I do pack things up, ready to go, I never seal them anymore.

      Here is my most recent one. The process for creating a second account is no different that your first account. Also, I have spoken to eBay about whether or not creating a second (or third) account is an issue. As I understand it, there is no problem with it as long as it isn't being done to circumvent something like a seller's block or an account suspension.

    Thanks for the video. Does anybody ever come back to you and argue they paid to much for shipping? (Meaning you charged for 8 x 8 x 8 box, but you sent it in a 8 x 4 x 4 box instead and shipping was cheaper of what you charged them).

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  9 місяців тому +2

      No, I don't ever get that. I don't display the cost on the label. And, if the weight was the same, an 8x8x8 box doesn't cost any more to ship than an 8x8x4. The size of the box can make a box difference once you pass up one cubic foot, though. Probably the biggest reason I don't get that is because, if the charge was much more than the cost of shipping, I typically refund the difference without the customer ever having to ask.

I just started last month and i have concerns about shipping and how to print the shipping label. • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  3 місяці тому

      When you're first starting out, it so hard to focus on what didn't sell instead of what did sell. There's a reason those three items sold. As you keep listing and figuring out what works best for you, you will continually improve your own sell-through rate. Focus on continuing that learning process because it's more important than any individual sale.
      AND CONGRATS ON THE SALES! While others may still be thinking about starting, you've already begun!

    Love the video, great information. I was a seller 30 years ago. Now retired, I decided to unload some of the items I've collected over the years. I thought the best way to establish some good feedback was to first start as a buyer. I need some feedback on the feedback aspect of Ebay. I have paid for all my items within minutes of auctions completing. I have been "stiffed" on two of my purchases by the sellers not providing feedback. I believe this is being done to ensure they garner good feedback prior to issuing mine. I have only sold one item so far, but once the buyer paid, I immediately gave good feedback. I now have a policy as a buyer that I will not issue feedback on items until I receive mine first. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated, as are the thoughts of any other sellers willing to chime in.

Just to rack up my number of reviews, I'll skip a trip to the store for something I need and instead get it off eBay.

    The poly mailers.. how do you measure something like clothing which doesn't have a fixed shape??

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  8 місяців тому

      Generally speaking, I use the outside dimensions of the mailer plus the thickness. For example, for a 10x13 poly mailer, the first 2 measurements are 10X13. Then, I enter the maximum thickness of the package after I've inserted the item into it. So, a pair of jeans might end up being 10X13X4. A t-shirt might be 10x13x2.

I don't have a label printer yet, don't have any availability in this area, my sales are increasing have 5 packages to mail, was talking with eBay assistance who said I need to void label went into seller hub saw that it said no on QR CODE, don't have a store just senior wanting to be part time but can't get them to void label and give me a QR CODE 😢 I only have android phone to work with, have spent hours trying to figure out what and how to talk to assistant again. Don't have health or time for full time, I just want a QR CODE for my packages so I can mail them help. How do you void labels and do I have to do it for each one. I've been watching your videos for few days now and have learned a lot!! I'm new to Ebay selling and have encountered something I can't find a solution to... selling multiples of the same item with calculated shipping. I make soap. The soap comes in about 20 fragrances. Each bar of soap weighs 4.5 oz. When setting up the calculated shipping, it asks how much does one bar of soap weigh and the dimension of the package I'll be shipping it in. If I sell 1 bar of soap it gets shipped in a poly mailer weighing 5 oz. for XX dollars. If I sell 4 bars of soap it weighs 18 oz and gets shipped in a box. The 4 bars weigh more than the one bar. How does Ebay figure out the calculated shipping charge for the multiple soap bar order and charge the correct shipping fee??
    Thank you. If you can't respond, I certainly understand. I've searched Ebay's help but to no avail. Ebay shipping seems to be set up for singular sales, not multiples of the same item. I'll keep looking for an answer :)

      What I would do is up your charge for each additional piece in a way that covers the extra weight by the time you get to the 4th bar. If it's going to run 75 cents more for the 4th bar, raise each bar's shipping cost by 25 cents. Does that make sense?

Sadly, I am more confused than I was before. It tells me that a flat rate envelope 12.5 x 9.5 is 9.85. It also states that USPS Ground Advantage-Retail charges from $5 to $8 for under 1 lb (I assume this is for calculated). I am confused where the $5.99 came from. I am guessing it comes from experience of shipping things? Also, can you tell me the difference between retail and commercial? I can't find a definition of terms on the Postal Explorer. Let's say I ship an item and I pay for 12 ounces. But it actually weighed 15 ounces, and I had just messed up. I would have underpaid for shipping. By the same token, let's say the package was 12 ounces, but I accidentally typed 21 ounces. I would have way overpaid.

      Follow-up question: Who is catching the weight difference - USPS? Do they in turn charge or refund the difference to Ebay who then passes it on to you?

    New to shipping and a bit intimidated . So if I purchase my label through eBay store , does that label have a tracking number ?
    If so can I just drop the package (item sold) in the inside P.O. Box store ..depository slot opening by the Kiuock ? Instead off getting in huge lines to be face to face with po office attendant .
    My thinking the personal in the back working will pick all boxes in that slot and do the legistic of tracking !?
    Am I correct or not ? Thanks

      When you buy your label on eBay, the tracking is included automatically. Then, once you've printed that label, your package is ready to be dropped off at any USPS location. No waiting at all.

      Thank you sir ! That makes it more appealing ! Therefore you can drop it off at any time off day ! Avoiding the rush to the post office official time .

    I don’t understand where you get the cost you got for the price of shipping.
    Also I don’t understand of how to use the priority boxes you get from USPS. How do you figure the cost of does eBay figure that? This is so confusing because I don’t know how you can determine the cost of the box and packing when first listing the item. What if you weight the item with one box and when it comes time to ship you have to use another size? I still don’t understand why all these shipping policies either. Just makes no sense to me how to ship something.

      I know. It seems overwhelming. Shipping is a lot like driving. When you first get behind the wheel...it's a lot. But it gets easier and easier.
      I have a good idea what my items cost to ship just from experience. I've shipped enough stuff that I have a pretty good idea what it'll weigh and cost when it's ready to go.
      You CAN let eBay figure out the cost for you by using calculated shipping. If you use that, go ahead and have your item packed in it's shipping material before you weigh and measure it. Then, it'll be more accurate.
      USPS Priority is just a service that the post office offers. If you are using that shipping service, you can use the free Priority materials. There are two types of Priority materials. There are the boxes and envelopes that have to be weighed to figure out how much shipping will cost. And there are some "flat rate" ones that will cost the same no matter how much weight you pack into it.
      As far as using a different box and that changing the weight, I always round-up the weight when I'm shipping. So, if the box is slightly different, it doesn't have a big impact.
      I hope that helps a little.

    Do I have to go through eBay for my first class shipping or can I just go to the post office and purchase w/o QR code?

    • @TheChaChingKing
      @TheChaChingKing  6 місяців тому

      You can do that. You'll need to upload your tracking to that item as soon as you get home.
      But keep in mind, you're going to pay much more for every single label doing that. You get rates that are very close to commercial rates (big discount) when you buy your label through ebay.

    Quick question I am confused on flat rate boxes. Like I ordered some from usps but it looks way more expensive to use them rather than use other boxes and go by weight. How does this work? Like I could use a random box and weigh it and it ships for 7 bucks rather than ehatbit says on here for a small flat rate box would make it 10 bucks instead please help??

      @TheChaChingKing  5 місяців тому

      I think you are looking at it exactly right. Flat Rate boxes are not always a good deal. It really depends on the weight of the item being shipped. If it's not a heavy package, Flat Rate will almost always be more expensive. But, if you were shipping a weight set in a Flat Rate box, it would probably be a heck of a deal. A lot of people use them because it's easy, not because it's cheaper.

    Can you please give a link for box supplies? I know you linked the USPS but in a previous video you stated usps boxes are not to be used for resale. This is the one thing that continues to baffle me. Thank you.

      The USPS Priority boxes can be used to ship the items that you've sold. BUT, they can only be used if you are shipping with USPS PRIORITY mail service. You can't use them if you ship with Ground Advantage of another carrier. Just Priority mail. Hopefully, that's a bit more clear. If not, I'll try again. :-)

    I purchased a bicycle rack from Amazon, it arrived with no extra box. In the event I re-sell the bicycle rack on eBay, do I need to put that inside another box? Thank you for all of your helpful tips and information.

      If it'll ship safely, you wouldn't need to. I'm guilty of over packing things, though. I'd probably double it up.
