Can't believe it either. Maybe a whole new generation of young people will become Rush fans like me I'm a millennial and my Dad turned me on to there music.
What can I write at the passing of Neil Peart? What insufficient words can I transcribe that would ever capture and explain the contribution this band has made in my life? There are three bands who helped me survive my shitty, unhappy teenage years: Kansas, Styx, and Rush. The brilliant lyrics penned by Neil Peart were both philosophical, and deeply meaningful. Whenever my teenage self was distraught or confused, I could retreat to the solitude and sanctuary of my room, play a Rush song, and the dismay was soothed. Rush amazingly contributed to the man have become. My values, my ethics, my outlook on existence were powerfully molded by Neil Peart and his insightful, erudite lyrics. Neil, you now belong to eternity, but to live in the hearts of those you leave behind is to never die. Neil Peart lives on!

I posted this on another Rush video as well but since I love Rush and miss Neil and "Closer to the Heart""was the first song that made me fall in love with this band. I thought I'd post this here too..... When I was 14 I had Rush posters all over my room. Obsessed with the band and their photos. I'm 50 now and a a professional concert photographer who's been photographing 75-100 bands a year for the last 25 years.. A couple years ago, and for the first time, I got to stand 10 feet away from RUSH and photograph them live. . It was truly sublime and I nearly had a heart attack from sheer joy. I remained focused however and got some fabulous shots of the boys. Now I have my own Rush posters hanging in my office that I shot personally. Full Circle. Love you and thank you Neil, Alex and Geddy! RIP Neil, you will be greatly missed.
Hey Todd.. You must have captured some wonderful shot's hey ? I'm not a star chaser by any means, but I wouldn't be able to catch my breath had I been standing in your shoe's... Cheers from the Mountains of western Canada. P.S. It's Feb7th, 1:26pm and snowing like crazy lol good time to turn on some Rush.
Hell's bells. I'm not a fan of Barenaked Ladies and I've been trying to figure out for years who that fifth guy was! Thanks for the hint. Ed Robertson. Never would have figured that out without your comment.
I knew i was going to be here and start crying again. Such a gray rainy miserable sad day. I will carry you in my heart neil. Soaring across the heavens now like he did a drum kit! Put in a good word for me! His pain is over. I pray for alex and geddy. I cannot fathom thier sense of loss!
Hey Mike.,.. Sending you a warm serious hug from the mountains of western Canada.. We all feel the pain of the loss some worse then other's but in general, we all lost a wonderful person in life.
A very Happy 68th Gary Lee Weinrib. July 29 1953 North York, Willowdale, Toronto. Your bass playing is legendary. And so is Rush. Many, Many more Dirk..
I can't think of any other bands that have passed the test of time with flying colors like Rush. Every bit as good live, if not better! Gene Simmons said when they first toured together he couldn't believe how Rush would simply go back to their hotel rooms and read books after a concert. Perhaps that's the secret to their longevity-clean living.
Absolutely James I have seen their last 3 tours and they were just astonishing and I have been a fan since the first album back in 74. What a band Rock at it`s finest Love it Glenn Augustyn
I don't consider pot a drug. Alcohol is more destructive. I knew they smoked pot-just listening to some of Peart's lyrics on some of their concept albums my un-stoned mind still goes "Wow, man." Rush had every reason to continue playing and touring while some of these washed out rockers need to quite flogging a dead horse if they can't play the guitar solo's half-assed or even hit moderate notes anymore. I saw Eric Burdon try to sing 'House of the Rising Sun' a few years ago and it was awful and very sad at the same time.
Reading some of these post and all I have to say is Neil Peart isn't dead. His body may be gone but he is alive in his music, his friends, and all of us fans that absolutely love this band and his music he gifted us with.

End of an era when Neil passed. The first time I ever saw them I went to two nights running at New Bingley Hall in Stafford (UK). Each UK tour after I went to several shows, and by the late 80s/90s (once I could afford to do it) I'd go to every UK date they did. I miss that. But great memories. +Pia Nystrom Interesting question here. When did the drummer for Rush start wearing that cloth hat on His head? I think I should add that I think it's a very nice hat since I understand how that question could be taken the wrong way.
