After Neil was devastated by the deaths of his wife and daughter in separate instances, they put the band aside for two years and made sure he had time to recover. Pure MUSICIANS to the CORE! 110%!! I read some interview with Geddy & Alex that Niel played concerts with blistered, cut hands plus having an inflammation on his feet playing on "bloody stumps and barely able to walk!" We will never see anyone like him again!
Hey Scott like everyone since I heard the news I've been listening to their music and reading all the comments from the short and sweet to the long and winded but I think YOU nailed it My Friend,.
I was introduced to Rush in the early mid 80’s, they definitely are talented and kick out a sound I just don’t like it much, the police trio kicked out a more intelligent rock sound for my money. Even today, everyone knows the police, but only rushes know rush. There’s a reason for that.
Brandon Tyler: Love Your Comment! When my son, who is now 29 was in Jr. High & HS, I told him I would not allow Rap to be played in the house if I could hear it. He could listen to Rap, but had to have head phones on! He obliged. I turned him on to classic R&R and he is a total classic rock&roller. Over the years we have seen Boston, Styx, Kiss, Tom Petty, Steve Miller, Peter Frampton, ZZ Top, David Knopfler, AC-DC and others together. We try to make two to four shows a year. We saw RUSH in Houston on their last tour. We agree it was in our top three list of best shows! & I we totally love this video! ~To paraphrase your awesome comment: Dad: Turn this Rap off son! Son: Why dad? Dad: Cause we have bigger speakers and MUCH BETTER MUSIC downstairs. Saber :--)
1st LP I ever bought was Rush 2112. I was 15 yrs old. I bought it at Tower of Recods Sacramento Ca. 1977. 2nd LP was All the Worlds a Stage. I took it home and started to learn the songs. I still play some of them today and I am 61. RIP Professor What a mucial heart break. Guitar was my first love.
I respected them above all else. However I am kinda happy they were not truly main stream popular...made me feel like I knew something that not many others did.
Well they did make the rock and roll hall of fame. In the music industry they are very well respected. As for the general public I like the face that they never got to mega star fame levels.
I am always intrigued when somebody says the band or an individual does not get the credit they deserve .... by whose standards does one make this observation? What more does one expect them to have? Not to mention the arrogance of assuming to know what people deserve..
This has become my favorite bit of live Rush. It is so incredibly tight, and ending with The Spirit of Radio really does it for me - if you're having a bad day, that song will lift you up. If you're having a great day, that song will somehow make it an even better day, and live...it just really, really works.
Now that is a bit much, he may have been the best behind a drum kit, but he didnt cure cancer. If being an entertainer is your idea of benefiting the human race then ok i guess.
Grew up in the 70's, had every one of their albums. One of THE greatest arena bands of ALL TIME. And just saying, Alex Lifeson is one of the most under rated lead guitarists in history. He is rarely ever included in the "top 10", "top 50" "top 100" lists and that's just stupid. They didn't call Neil Peart "The Professor" for nothing and Geddy Lee was the indisputable voice of Rush but also one of the greatest electric base players that ever lived. He and Chris Squire were so close it was crazy. There will never be another group like this ever.
layzer80 Completely amazing. I do not know how 3 people could all be so unbelievably gifted and somehow found each other. I sometimes wonder if they are even human. It's like watching that one athlete that you know you will never see the likes of again in your lifetime.
A month later and it's still tough to swallow. I think the reason it stings so much is it was totally unexpected as no one outside of his family and close friends knew he was sick. I understand his reasons for keeping it quiet and can't blame him.
This was a great concert -- July 2004 / White River Amphitheater; remember it like it was yesterday and hard to believe almost 20 years ago. Greatest band ever. RIP Neil Peart.
All the Worlds a Stage was one of my first albums. I've been enjoying Rush since the mid-70s when I realized what music was...they invented "Progressive" rock. Unbelievable talent, lyrics, etc. RIP Neil.
Three intensely intelligent musicians ran into each other and created this masterpiece band. One in a zillion. Saw them many times, often by myself just to soak it all in. I LOVE you Rush. Miss you so very much Neil.
Like a few bands so much talent and gifted everyone and you end up with a power house of music lyrics that are priceless like zeppelin black sabbath just to name a few
Me too !!! I went to a few shows alone and in the 1990's drove to Sacramento from Sonoma County without a ticket hoping to find one in the parking lot. Some dude comes up to me and asks if I want to buy a ticket. Then a black guy with dreads asked me the same question and I bought a ticket from him for $20 bucks, and the white guy asked me, "You're gonna buy a ticket from that guy ?" It was TENTH ROW in the center !!!! I'm the guy who made the Geddy Lee for President '92 bumper stickers that I sold at the Mountain View show and it covered the cost for my ticket, and all my buddies who came with me.

Brings tears to these now 51 yr old eyes to know that these 3 will never be together like this again. Here is to Neil and all those great songs and most of all, memories we will have with us for all time to remember him, and this great band that was never 1 person any bigger than the band itself. A true brotherhood for the ages. Thank you guys, I have been a fan since I was just a five year old when my older brother brought home the first RUSH album back in 1974. It has been a wonderful journey..
I too am 51. Found Rush in 82 on Signals. And like a fire it burned so bright....47 live shows and I saw my 47th in my 46th year of life. Was hoping to get one for every year for a long time.. Alas....2020...and no hope of a "one last time". Got my tickets for Neil's Lifetime Celebration in Canada and my guess is they won't let me in to go to it in October.
I'm now 58 and haven'd these guys in a few yrs. I've got goose bumps!! What a treasure they were and in many ways, still are. I was in 6th grade when I learned of them. Music can bend time better than Star Trek.
I agree 100% His real talent like the rest of the band , is in his exactness. You watch other bands screw up their songs because , they say, they are tired of playing it the same way. Bull!! they probable forgot how. Not these guys, their perfect.
The credit he deserves are all those guitarists that emulate him. Rush has influenced many generations of musicians. They never gave a FUCK about critics/awards. Long time fan that absolutely agrees with your post.

I'd followed Rush since the early 80s and they grew to be my favorite band. So much complexity in both music and lyrics. Got every one of their albums plus concert videos. FINALLY got to see them live on their Clockwork Angels tour and it was the best concert I have ever seen (probably forever). They were on stage for 3 hours. Will never forget it. Fantastic talent and Neil Peart is the best drummer all time, in my opinion. RIP Neil and thank you as well Alex and Teddy!
One of the most underrated bands on earth. Saw them in Leeds Queens Hall 1981 ish. Neils drum solo was amazing, He must have 10000 bits of equipment and he hit every one of them RIP
Saw them about that time, think it would have been Leicester De Montfort Hall. I remember Neil's kit was four sided and closed behind him when he'd sat down. He had a freakin walk-in drum kit. And yes he hit every bit, a lot!
Three great technicians building musical monuments. Forever to stand tall amongst all others. Thank you for the decades of music and creativity boys. It’s meant a lot to me.
It would live on better if you supported Rush's official UA-cam page. They have monetization and would go to support the band. Now you are just supporting some random guy
@@marvinflatt6947 listen to each player for a week straight and then if you still feel the same then ok, yes Ginger is top five but only one can be #1.
One of the best thing about Rush to me is that they never stopped evolving or trying new things. They never restricted themselves to one sound or style. The words "Rush doesn't do that" weren't in their vocabulary. They dabbled in metal, prog, reggae, new wave, synth rock, and anything else that tickled their fancy, and somehow made all of it sound like Rush. Not everyone liked everything they did, but few other bands had their curiosity or versatility, and because of that, their catalog is one of the most diverse in recorded music.
that is a sign of a truly great band look at zz top same three guys for 47 years they do what they want when they want and don't give two s%$#s about radio play same with rush.
What I love about Rush is that they did things their way regardless of pressures from record labels, fans, agents or anyone else. They said fuck it all, we're in this for ourselves; if you like what we do, that's great, but if not, we don't really care because we genuinely love it and that's all that matters. That is the way to live your life.
I remember drawing the RUSH logo and the Rush star on my books in High School (class of 79) took my daughter to see them in Hershey about 10 years ago telling her that Hannah Montana wasn't going to be her first concert. And she was going to see the best drummer in the world. She loves Rush to this day. RIP Neil.
That’s insane! RUSH is so great live! Their body of work is so big that they are one of only a few bands that could even create such a great intro and still have tons of music left over to play. Will always love these guys!
My favorite 5 bands of all time..Rush, Queensryche, Pink Floyd, Scorpions and Iron Maiden....need I say more? I saw Rush twice, Scorpions and Iron Maiden once each. Rush always took the cake. Can't wait to see Neil Peart play the drums again when I leave this world and move on. Each of these bands were not only incredible musicians, but their lyricism actually said something, every song.
WOW, that was the same tour I was introduced to Rush…1974?? 75?? I actually have a poster from that show…ticket prices were like $5.50 per! Kiss headlined…never again was that the case!
Same here! I was about 16 when I studied Rush music. I learnt playing drums listening to Kiss and Rush :) This is so cool! Even more, THE Canadian Rockband recording their 40th anniversary tour in Frankfurt Festhalle, Germany. Makes me happy. This venue was my second living room for many years. So much legacy, for the location and the band as well. Perfect fit. I'll never forget the sadness I felt when I learned that Neil passed away. It was like the day when Freddie passed away. What a loss....
I went to see them at Nassau Coliseum back in the late 70' early 80's ( friends & I felt like we were old men) we were listing to them from their 1st album & we are all in our 60's now.
I'm 54 and only just discovered rush because moving pictures tribute band came to my local music venue. Wow. Glad I went. Love the moving pictures, and now love rush!
Rush, man what a band, one of my all-time favorites. Thanks, guys for many memorable years of listening to your music. Special hats off to Neil Peart, without any doubt the best drummer ever, he'll always be remembered. Now he's with Selena.
Perhaps technically sound isn't the right category to put them true. But they are three musicians that can singergize extremely well and create a very full and lively music. Or did at least. And they are very good in their art.
Need to respond! Best ever for them? Got to see them four times, every show was to perfection sound wise. Their intro to Trees & a few others blew you away! Will always continue listening over and over, never gets old.
All these years later and this is still my favorite concert I have ever attended. The intro really got the crowd fired up. The crowd in Charlotte absolutely exploded at the first note of Bastille Day. Guess I'm not the only one who enjoys the deeper cuts that don't get much play in concert or radio.
To put it into context, there’s good rock bands who are tradesmen, there are great rock bands who are craftsmen and then there is Rush, master craftsmen, they are in a league of their own. Being in Australia I never got to see them live, thank goodness for the posted videos.
Remember: This was only *3* dudes! Each one a master musician in his own right. We will never see the likes of this again except in recording. I'm not glad that I'm not a kid anymore, but I'll trade that for being old enough to have seen Rush live three times.

I’ve been a Rush fan for 40 years, the more I listen the more I appreciate Alex Lifeson, very underrated, and I don’t think you will see musicianship in 3 artists as you will in Rush anytime soon...
If you listen to his evolution of playing and style over the years, it's incredible. I dont think I've heard any guitarist evolve like him. His guitar playing across the board is amazing but on PRESTO its mind boggling. Cheers!
Perfection on stage people. Virtuosos at every turn. Absolutely perfect. Amazing band and people. A kid that grew up in the 80s and living this band along the way.
Rush is as far from underrated as you can be. The amount of hero worship these three recieve is astounding and they are cited as sources of inspiration by successful musicians crossing multiple decades.
I never saw Rush in a big stadium, The biggest venues were the Kitchener Auditorium, and the Guelph arena. They also played "Caress of Steel", my favourite album at the Stratford skate rink, my home town. After that, I moved onto Marc Bolan and David Bowie. Now at my age I look back. It is wonderful to watch the 3 lads so comfortable with themselvea and just enjoying themselves and their music. Neil Peart, as well as Alex and Geddy are true top of the mark. RIP Neil. K
Caress of Steel is my favorite too. I heard it was one of the least popular. My favorite era of Rush was the first 4 albums and the first live album. Seen them many times before they headlined. Good times good music
Who is that Kimjreis? Cos Stratford is my home town and I saw them there too and KW as well. Haven't lived in Stratford or Canada for that matter since 1981, but also saw April Wine at the Colosseum on Britannia St.
The 'greatest'...really? It is great, but the 'greatest'? Have you (or I or others for that matter) heard all possible 'contenders'? I suspect not, and that is not me being derogatory but rather acknowledging that it is probably an impossibility to have heard ALL alternatives great pieces.. It is also in my view that the 'greatest' is quite a subjective determination so I have come to realize that because I have not heard all possible alternatives AND because my tastes are somewhat eclectic then I am unable to state that one piece in particular is the greatest. All I could reasonably state perhaps is that one particular piece is the greatest that I have heard. For my part there are plenty of great pieces, ranging from some of Neil Young and Crazy Horse's masterful performances (Cortez, Down by the River, Cinammon Girl etc) to Yes (with Starship/Yours is No Disgrace/Wurm) to Humble Pie's I don't need no Doctor and then on to Richard Thompson's nearly 14-min Calvary Cross (my personal favourite). I just enjoy as many of these musical gems as I can before my time is up.
One XMAS I think it was 1977 with all the cousins huddled in the coolest cousin’s basement bedroom in Scarborough he introduced us to RUSH. He had just seen RUSH at Cedarbrae SS and I remember him saying “ I saw this band called RUSH and they are fantastic “.
We have had 45 great years of this band and fortunately, we can listen to their albums and watch their videos until we die. Imagine those few in the18th/19th century who were lucky enough to see/hear Mozart or Beethoven perform. No radios, videos, cd's back then. The whole world gets to hear and watch Rush forever in HD stereo.
Beautiful, this man was a true artist. A thinking man that wrote deep lyrics that still resonate with me at 52 years old. But that was not enough he became one of the most complex drummers to ever exist. Neil you touched my soul brother. Thank you for the art. So saddened to hear of your passing. You were a beautiful human
I am the same age as you, 52. Neil was such an inspiration to me and all the years growing up with Rush as my all time favorite rock band. He may be gone but my memories will forever last in my soul and mind forever.
That's kind of one of Rush's tricks when playing live. They like to disguise what song is coming up next. If you're familiar with Rush's music you heard a bunch of different songs there before they launched into Spirit of the Radio. What I love most about this video is how clear the sound is. You can really hear every instrument and especially the drums. Well done!!

I'm still amazed that so many RUSH fans don't know that besides all that great drumming, Neil wrote nearly ALL the lyrics.

I was introduced to Rush in the early mid 80’s, they definitely are talented and kick out a sound I just don’t like it much, the police trio kicked out a more intelligent rock sound for my money. Even today, everyone knows the police, but only rushes know rush. There’s a reason for that.
I can't believe it either! But you are off on a journey that will lead you to places you never imagined existed! Enjoy the ride my friend!

Love Your Comment!

1st LP I ever bought was Rush 2112. I was 15 yrs old. I bought it at Tower of Recods Sacramento Ca. 1977.
2nd LP was All the Worlds a Stage. I took it home and started to learn the songs. I still play some of them today and I am 61.

I had gotten my hands on "All the World's a Stage" first and soon after found "Hemispheres" on an album rack and melted.🎸🔊

There will never be a band like RUSH in my lifetime.
Three great musicians and friends performing at the highest level for four decades. Not recognized to the degree they deserve!
I respected them above all else. However I am kinda happy they were not truly main stream popular...made me feel like I knew something that not many others did.
Well they did make the rock and roll hall of fame. In the music industry they are very well respected. As for the general public I like the face that they never got to mega star fame levels.
This band more than makes up for Nickelback and Bieber.
No comparison
I am always intrigued when somebody says the band or an individual does not get the credit they deserve .... by whose standards does one make this observation? What more does one expect them to have? Not to mention the arrogance of assuming to know what people deserve..

This has become my favorite bit of live Rush. It is so incredibly tight, and ending with The Spirit of Radio really does it for me - if you're having a bad day, that song will lift you up. If you're having a great day, that song will somehow make it an even better day, and live...it just really, really works.

Right on. I played guitar and sang in a Rush tribute band years ago, and the technical difficulty level was off the charts.

there is nothing like when something becomes a part of you - whether it is a bass, drums, ... a paintbrush, a skateboard, a bicycle, etc, etc,
One of the best thing about Rush to me is that they never stopped evolving or trying new things.
It's one of the reasons I love Rush. If I want to hear something in nearly any rock-related style there's at least one Rush song that covers it.
that is a sign of a truly great band look at zz top same three guys for 47 years they do what they want when they want and don't give two s%$#s about radio play same with rush.
Fuck yes! RUSH!!!

I remember drawing the RUSH logo and the Rush star on my books in High School (class of 79) took my daughter to see them in Hershey about 10 years ago telling her that Hannah Montana wasn't going to be her first concert.
This is the greatest fucking eleven and a half minutes of live rock n roll ever!!!!!!!!!! RIP Professor Peart.
agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes!!!!!
Listen & learn !!....timeless magic !

The greatest band ever. Had been a few years since I saw this and it brings tears to my eyes.
Three over talented guys smashing it. The musicianship is off the scale. Such a loss we'll never see them again. RIP Neil. Your missed.
And no air play on the radio.Rush rules !
Mike M my father in law is Canadian. He doesn’t know who Rush is.
@@lyndondow1040 klos in southern ca still plays them. sadly the radio has been ruined by one company clear channel owning more than half the stations.
@@eh3253 well art is subjective but we are blessed that we know who they are.
I am the same age as you, 52. Neil was such an inspiration to me and all the years growing up with Rush as my all time favorite rock band. He may be gone but my memories will forever last in my soul and mind forever.
I've been fortunate enough to see & hear RUSH perform live and I still have my 2112 Album from when I was a teen!
They never disappointed when playing live. Absolute masters of their craft. The apex in my world.
Rush is more than a band. They embody a philosophy of being true to oneself. You feel it in every song, and this is why their music is timeless.
Dahmer lived his best life.
A true force of nature.
And very genuine and kind people to boot.
The best rock trio ever! So glad I was able to see them play live a few times. So sad that it's over. Thanks for the memories guys! RUSH FOREVER!
RIP Neil Peart you will forever be a legend
That's kind of one of Rush's tricks when playing live. They like to disguise what song is coming up next. If you're familiar with Rush's music you heard a bunch of different songs there before they launched into Spirit of the Radio. What I love most about this video is how clear the sound is. You can really hear every instrument and especially the drums. Well done!!
Rest in peace Neil you was and will always be a amazing man sitting behind the drums
