I heard someone say the other day " Neil is your favorite drummer's favorite drummer." Really puts things into perspective. Long live the legacy of Neil Peart!
No drama. No drug issues. No in band fighting just 40 years of brilliant men doing rock and roll the way it is meant to be. Thank you guys and Neil, rest easy my friend.
Apparently, their lead guitar player was more humble than any other bands lead. The bass guitar and drums are featured right along with the lead. The lead has his moments, but he never seems to steal the show. Geddy's work on bass is more technical than most, and the drums, well most everyone knows how special he was.
I think the fact that it’s three members and that Alex and Geddy grew up together had a lot to do with them staying together and being so happy together the whole time.
No because they occupied a space in time in-between hard rock and techno metal. That time has come and gone but there are many great great bands that have built upon their sound, but they are still the grandfathers of tech or math metal.

We were amazed first time we heard them, listened to them all through high school and still enjoy their sound up to now. I just turned 57 years young and this music brings back so many incredible memories. It is our youth, our diverse taste in music and Rush being at the top of that list. What an incredible, talented band and some of the best memories that came with it. RIP Neil and may your legacy of music and songs go on forever, the timeless and ageless sound that lives on.
A girlfriend introduced me to Rush in the 1970s . I was hooked and never left them. Sadly the girl didn't last. Now 2024 still listen to them....Neil sadly missed
There really was a different dynamic with these 3. Not only were they band mates in one of the greatest bands EVER, it was obvious that they were also best friends. That really showed when Neil took his time away after losing his wife and daughter. Many other bands would have bailed on him and found another drummer. They supported their brother in his time and waited for him.
Like when Alex goes over to Neil as if to say, "hit that little 16th again." And Neil does. It was a blast watching these guys mature, yet stay the same. Long live some good headphones.✈
Whenever I went to a Rush concert I knew that my money was well spent. Always 100%. Very few bands live up to the talent and professionalism shown by Alex. Geddy and Neil.
Me too. Took my little brother. Wife couldn’t find a sitter. He was all into hip hop. He was mesmerized. Couldn’t believe the amount of music coming from 3 guys.He actually asked me "Are they really playing?". He was hooked. My wife was pretty much the same. You see Rush again. Yeah she came with me. Again amazed at the music. Yeah she turned on to Rush.
You ever notice that they always started at the exact time they were supposed to? I saw them maybe 15 times and you could set your watch by when they came on.

Yep, just thinking that too, his life was about to be thrown into turmoil. Reading on his website, it sounds like he had a very beautiful relationship with his young daughter, Olivia (his daughter with his second wife, Carrie). She sounds like a very, very bright and creative teenager. My heart goes out to her and her Mom. So sad that Neil is no longer with us, though of course he is still with us, having left us so much. My pain is that growing up in Australia, for me RUSH didn't get a mention over here. I loved listening to music in the 70s and onwards and RUSH drew a mental blank....i might have heard some songs but nothing comes to mind. Move forward 40 years into 2019 and i decided to look up "good" drummers ( myself a keen drummer but not very good) and a guy named Neil Peart pops up with Tom Sawyer and the rest they say is history. The passing of Neil is very sad to me, but in the past year I have been able to overdose on all of RUSH's songs. After it was announced of Neils passing 3 days after, I basically haven't stopped listening to them. These three are pure masters.
Absolutely hated Rush literally up until Neil passed; some of my friends were posting some of Rush's deeper cuts (mostly from the later years when Geddy's voice wasn't as irritatingly shrill as it was from 1973 to 1980) and I was blown away by how fantastic they were as musicians and how deep and empathetic a writer Neil was. "The Pass" put me over the edge, what a devastatingly compassionate and well written song that is. I love them as much as I do the Dead and the Stones now.
Still watching……all these years later & nothing makes me smile quite like seeing these 3 guys…….do what they do best. Neils been gone almost 19 months & ut still hurts. I have a feeling it will hurt for a very long time!! RUSH FOREVER!!!!!
What a beautiful, brilliant, cosmic anomaly that these 3 human beings came together at a moment in time to create such art. I give thanks in perpetuity for the majesty that is them!
Alex's face at the beginning when Geddy tries to hit that first high note fantastic 😜 that's the beauty of this band they never took themselves too seriously 👍
Man, this was back when they could still rock the songs and the vocals. RIP Neil. You rocked the hell out of the world and left it a better place for your existence.

Definitely one of my favorite drummers, incredibly virtuous, will live forever in our memories because of the great legacy he left us in his percussions, rest in peace Neil Peart.
Não sei do que eu gosto mais: das músicas excelentes, da técnica impecável ou do fato dos 3 caras serem amigos por mais de 30 anos. Acho que essa é a parte mais legal do Rush. Eles se divertiam pra krl tocando juntos
I consider about this time (1997) Rush was really in their PRIME. Every body was healthy, Geddy still had his voice and they were just really good at their craft by then. I guess I saw about 3 or 4 of their shows and they never disappointed. I had tickets for the last show in Dallas. I didn't know that they were retiring. I had tickets but I had to work for like a week and a half straight right before the concert and I was really tired and didn't go. Had I known that it was the very last show they would ever do in Dallas Tx I would have made an all out effort. One year 4 of my friends and I went on a Rush Pilgrimage so to speak. We started out seeing Rush in Dallas Tx. Then drove down to San Antonio Texas( Buda) for the next night's show. Then over to Houston Tx for the next show then came home. There was a day in between one of those shows I don't remember which. That was back in the partying days. That was a hoot. Pretty expensive to if I remember correctly. Best Band Ever!! GOAT
At 3:19 minutes into the clip Alex and Neil make eye contact and the both smile...and I believe they say to each other isn't this great to be able to do this for a living...I still can't watch and not shed a tear knowing it is over and how the world has changed since Neil is gone....a very sad, sad, sad, place without him...see you in the next world don't be late...
The first concert I ever saw was 2112~ I've been a loyal fan for how many decades now? Never mind- let's not answer that :) When I was at the Roll the Bones tour in St. Petersburg, FL, I was sitting 3 rows from the stage in front of Alex and when they played this song- (one of my favs and there are so many) I stood and gave him the hand sign for love and he mouthed "thank you" to me and then proceeded to play the solo in front of us- I named my son after him
Best band ever, been listening to rush since 1975 I'm a brother from Detroit and my neighbors thought I was crazy haha my heroes rip mr.Peart I only listen to them everyday for the past 45 years lol
I'd never seen this video until tonight -- though I know the song by heart -- have for 40 years. Will miss Neil and Rush forever. I'm just glad he left us such a great musical legacy....
Nowadays the only real, valid use for UA-cam is to remind us how great we had it when Rush could still come to your town and show us what REAL MUSICIANSHIP was. So glad I can tune in here and watch the Professor and his two brothers rock the world. I will forever cherish the two times I got to see them live (Power Windows and Signals Tours) and am so glad I can always turn on UA-cam and recall some of the best days of my life. Love you guys! By the way, Message to Geddy and Alex: If you are ever in the Atlanta Georgia area you are welcome to come to my house for a meal (Lots of wine included of course) and a jam session with a wannabe drummer and bassist!
I love reading accounts in these comments of the Joy RUSH has blessed their fans with almost as much as listening to the band’s music. To be sure, reading accounts from like-minded fans while listening to the music of RUSH is a whole other level of joy.
Just a fabulous band. Quality layered music that never ages. Sadly I never got to see them live..big regrets. I have been listening to RUSH for over 40 years
They sound phenomenal here. Imagine just a few weeks after this, Peart's world came crashing down around him. RIP Neil Peart. You will always be missed.
Man, I was just looking at some photos of "The Band" and came upon the last picture at the last concert after the last song ever played taken from behind as they waved at the crowd "Neil in the middle", had to set it as my background screen and come here to watch some Rush "Live".... What a privilege it has been to be a part of this for the pass 40 years best years of my life thanks to the 3 amigos'.
The heart of a band, beating, lost. I am sorry for the suffering Neil must have endured, and the pain that his family and friends must be feeling. I wish them strength and comfort. R.I.P Neil Peart, you gave your family, band mates and fans, music that will never be forgotten.
I was born 5 weeks before this show, and that shows how much RUSH evolved and got better with time, just like wine. So sorry Neil had to retire, but he left a hell of a legacy!
This was my very first RUSH show. It's possible you can see me in one of the crowd shots. It would be my last for about 10 years tho. Saw the Time Machine, Clockwork Angels and R40 shows all in Toronto. But this show was special because it was outdoors and my first.
The dynamic feeling and expression of passion that Alex generates from the solo in this piece is absolutely incredible. These guys have a unique radiance in their sound...
During the Test for Echo tour. This was one of many that I saw, and every show was brilliant. It's been said many times - Alex, Geddy and Neil were the best of friends, playing music in the greatest band ever, and having the best time. I got goosebumps at every show I saw. There will never be another band like Rush. God bless Alex, Geddy and the Peart family. We miss you Professor.
I remember the first time I saw these guys on "Don Corsner Rock Concert" back in the 70s, I was soooo impressed!! Geddy Lee was a major reason I stuck to playing bass.... And need I say more about the late great, drum God; Mister. Neil Peart.... Love you guys...
I feel very lucky and fortunate that when I heard this band for the first in 1977 listening to Cygnus X-1 that I had enough sense to make them my favorite band. How lucky were we all that we got to listen to and see them in concert for so many decades while multitudes of other bands came and went or changed members. It blows my mind that from the time I was a 13 year old teenager that my favorite band made music and toured for the next 38 years. I miss them but will always be grateful for being the soundtrack of my life. I know I’m not the only one that feels that way either.

Harry Ballz I’m the Same. If I would have really got into rush . I would be further along
RIP Neil Peart
One of the true greats of the Prog genre.. RIP
@@KoMDraegast One of the true greats of every genre
@Fred Jaminson yes
We all gotta go someday but I was hoping that someday was still many, many days away. RIP Neil...thank you for decades of great music
You can really see the chemistry and how much these guys love each other such a terrible loss
Awesome musicians and awesome people.
RIP Neil Peart. Your music lives on as the best percussionist ever
Been to 14 Rush concerts, this music is beyond amazing and will Live forever
Alex's face at the beginning when Geddy tries to hit that first high note fantastic 😜 that's the beauty of this band they never took themselves too seriously 👍
This was the "Test for echo" tour, i saw them live in Quebec city on that tour. One of the best show ever!
Neil, Rest In Peace. It will be close to impossible for any other drummer to carry on your legacy.
My condolences to the family and Rush.
When music, was still music. Real talent, great arrangements, great vocals.A real band.
Still find it difficult to wrap my head around Neil’s passing. I can’t imagine how his family feels....even Alex and Geddy.
Here we are in 2021 with this super Band! Since the 70's... regards from Brazil.
Man, this was back when they could still rock the songs and the vocals. RIP Neil. You rocked the hell out of the world and left it a better place for your existence.
They were always able to do that?
@@superslayerguy Until the very end, not sure what this Sarge is talking about but it isn't the truth
@@superslayerguy Oh, you haven't listened to Geddy sing in the last 10 years, I see. It's okay. You can discover that here on YT. Just search on here, man.
You win the dumb comment of the month and it's only the 12th.
@@Roof_Pizza it only seems dumb to someone who cannot comprehend it.
Wonderfull... Rush is my life. Miss u, guys, and miss u, Neil!
I saw these guys 21 times, hemisphere tour was my first time and every tour after all in st.louis mo. Even got neil's autograph. I sure do miss their live shows. Thanks for the great years you gave your fans you are missed.rock on neil.🎓😃
Never was there more energy pumped out by only 3 guys. Never.

ZZ Top sounded great for just 3 dudes

NEIL THANK YOU FOR YOUR LIFE'S WORK IT WAS AMAZING RIDE!!!!!
It took me 30 years before. I understood what he was trying to say in these lyrics, don't treat us like we're superheros, we're just musicians. Better than 95% of them, but just musicians.
Lee's voice is so distinctive. Definitely pioneers of their own sound, Thanks Canada!!!🤘
Moving pictures was a masterpiece....still love it to this day
Definitely one of my favorite drummers, incredibly virtuous, will live forever in our memories because of the great legacy he left us in his percussions, rest in peace Neil Peart.
Não sei do que eu gosto mais: das músicas excelentes, da técnica impecável ou do fato dos 3 caras serem amigos por mais de 30 anos. Acho que essa é a parte mais legal do Rush. Eles se divertiam pra krl tocando juntos
One of the best bands,I have seen 5 times more than any other
The sound is so good. Amazing footage. Rush forever. What they did and do is timeless.
So Glad i grew up to this type of music 🤘..35 yrs later still gives me goosebumps.
Canada's greatest gift to us is RUSH and Hockey 👍
Its soon amazing, they were all such good friends and had fun bringing us great music! Thank you! RIP Mr. Peart, u are missed!
The first concert I ever saw was 2112~ I've been a loyal fan for how many decades now?
Never mind- let's not answer that :)
When I was at the Roll the Bones tour in St. Petersburg, FL, I was sitting 3 rows from the stage in front of Alex and when they played this song- (one of my favs and there are so many) I stood and gave him the hand sign for love and he mouthed "thank you" to me and then proceeded to play the solo in front of us-
I named my son after him
Hey look! Peart smiled! I saw it! Around 3:20, 3:25 or so :)
Best band ever, been listening to rush since 1975 I'm a brother from Detroit and my neighbors thought I was crazy haha my heroes rip mr.Peart I only listen to them everyday for the past 45 years lol
For anyone that has ever picked up a musical instrument , RUSH is an overwhelming experience .
Indeed
I'd never seen this video until tonight -- though I know the song by heart -- have for 40 years. Will miss Neil and Rush forever. I'm just glad he left us such a great musical legacy....
I still get goosebumps when I hear those opening notes.
Damn..that solo by Alex is perfect, the touch and feel, its not the most complicated but he makes it sound epic..has his own style and it is beautiful!!
I love reading accounts in these comments of the Joy RUSH has blessed their fans with almost as much as listening to the band’s music. To be sure, reading accounts from like-minded fans while listening to the music of RUSH is a whole other level of joy.
3 guy's who truly enjoyed each other's company. So rare R.I.P Neal.
Just a fabulous band. Quality layered music that never ages. Sadly I never got to see them live..big regrets. I have been listening to RUSH for over 40 years
Truly the best band in the Milky Way....
Maybe a few parallel universes too!
Hang Lee The best in THE GALAXY..
Yeah, maing, keep on smokin' the ganja.
within the constellation of Cygnus X1.
Drink the milk of paradise
Let's go professor, let's go. God bless you Neil.
RIP Professor Neil Peart
Goodbye Neil Peart, thanks for all the words & beats
Thanks for being a part of my life and allowing all of us into yours.
I to this day can not watch a Rush video without crying. The very first band I ever saw in concert as a kid. RIP Neil. I truly miss you.
This was my very first RUSH show. It's possible you can see me in one of the crowd shots. It would be my last for about 10 years tho. Saw the Time Machine, Clockwork Angels and R40 shows all in Toronto. But this show was special because it was outdoors and my first.
Great job
I love geddy!!!💖💖💖💖💖
You just can't beat Rush. A fan since 1976. Met them in Port Huron Michigan. Best day of my life
I love RUSH!! RUSH fans are the best!
Only Rush. They simply loved playing music together more than anything. Thanks for sharing it with us!
rush forever, always been one of my favs.
The dynamic feeling and expression of passion that Alex generates from the solo in this piece is absolutely incredible. These guys have a unique radiance in their sound...
Nonstop thunderstorm all day long today. Thank you for the final drum solo Neil. :-(
I was at that show. What an incredible night I will remember forever!
Never seen a band have so much fun playing for so many years.
44 years ago I discovered Rush, an amazing experience. Alex, Geddy & Neil: Thanks for your Music & Sincerity...
RUSH
Amazing band, for eternity...
My all time favorite band. Sad I’ll never get to see them live again; but happy I took my young son to their last two tours
I remember this day so well. What A concert to be at. First time at the Amphitheatre and hometown crowd. Always stellar!
I was at this show.
An amazing night
Love the little stretch from 3:12 Alex big grin and getting Glee and Neil to smile.
Happy Canada Day 2019....with our national treasure of music
Don't forget Triumph .
So sad today. My youth just died. Thanks for the memories Neil, you will be greatly missed
One of the best live bands ever. Period.
the subtle smile you can catch from mr. peart on rare occasions lets me know he enjoyed this as much as we did.
