- Hey everyone, we're reuploading our review of episode 12 because there were some visuals missing from the original. This was a mistake on our part and we apologize for it. We'll do our best to keep this from happening again. Thank you for understanding.
Our review of episode 12 of Netflix She-ra and the Princesses of Power where we finally meet Light Hope. This episode answers some of the questions we've been asking over the course of the season (emphasis on some). This episode was a lot of exposition. It was nice to finally get some world building but it could have been spread out throughout the season instead of all dumped into one episode.

Another thing that bothers me about Swiftwind is the change made to his voice. What made the original voice of Swiftwind so memorable wasn't just how gruff and deep it was, but the fact that this deep voice was coming from such a noble and respectable-looking creature. It's the opposite of the alpha dog from Up: an intimidating design with a silly voice. The juxtaposition created makes the situation funny and memorable. But new Swiftwind's voice is too high pitch and annoying, especially when he preaches on about horse liberation.
There's that...and with the way horses sound in real life, a gruff voice DOES make a little sense. XD
That horse is the worst part of the show
@@SuperCosmicMutantSquid Yes. I know people have joked about Swift Wind's voice, but, to me, he sounded pretty much how I would expect a horse to sound if it suddenly started talking.

So Swiftwind has a Link to Adora and senses she's in trouble in a temple with no one around other then a hologram, but wasn't concerned about her when she was unable to fight in Ep.6, being stalked by Shadow weaver in Ep.7 or dangling from a very steep Cliff side in Ep.8.... Yeah....
Gee, who would have thought apologizing consistently to someone whose actions got them into trouble would make them learn nothing from it. I also don't think it's wise to promote a person who was too busy being obsessive over someone being with another which jeopardized lives and resulted in the capturing of both- and allowing said person is having some illness and hasn't any control over her powers and could possibly be put into a situation such as a battle. So her mother goes from over-protective to pretty much neglectful and reckless. I'm sure it's a good idea to let someone with the flu gallivant around, certainly exhuming energy in a weakened condition won't exacerbate it.
She-ra brings all the princesses together... How much you wanna bet, at some point in the 2nd season, they show Catra is a princess, and she goes good as they just completely erase Catra's entire character of being pretty much for conquering and pretty much being a villain and pretty much has Hordak's blessings?
Again; we see Shadow weaver, something that throughout most of the show was shown intimidating, beaten in mere moments. I iterate; How am I supposed to find the hoard a threat? The 2nd in command is pretty much pathetic and beaten by a pudgy contorl freak and her own underling, while the soldiers; these elite footsoldiers of an evil empire are scared off by bead wearing hippies with leaf fans. Murky and Lurky from the 80's Rainbow Brite are more badass then them....
Also nitpic; but Adora's sword is so much smaller on her back, it has looked like a large broadsword, but now just seems like a normal long sword and in some cases even smaller. I' shouldn't be surprised, it's obvious a lot of this show is slapped together.
I mean when light hope show the hologram of the other princesses I noticed one of the princesses had a tail which could be a bit chunkier catra? gosh the animation is so inconsistent and bad...
The one time they remember the sword can morph, and it's by pure accident.
Obviously Noelle was top notch in their "Bad Script Writing 101" class...

Teacher: No problem, just dump all you want people to know in the last chapters, that'll fix it for you and will make people understand what you wanted them to know...

The show might want to portray Queen Angela as overbearing, but it really doesn't work in context. She's portrayed as a stereotypical mom worried that her little girl is growing up, but this isn't what's really happening. This is a war. How could anybody not expect a mother to be constantly worried about her teen daughter going to war. Maybe if Glimmer were hyper competent it may have been believable, but so far, Glimmer has been nothing sort of incompetent. Angela has absolutely every reason to be overprotective of her
Hmmm, reminds me of another slightly recent animated thing where they tried to paint the rightfully concerned guardian as wrong because their little shit head of a kid was being dumb.

Wreck-it-Ralph 2. Vanellope and Glimmer are basically the same character and Angela is in the same position as Ralph except with everyone getting on Ralph for being 'toxic'.

It begs the question: how was Glimmer made commander to begin with? She doesn't act like she's had any form of military training and, as you've pointed out, she's really incompetent. I don't get how a mother, rightfully overprotective or not, would place her daughter in such a position of power. Were none of the guards competent or well-trained enough to occupy that role instead? Seems odd that, if the Queen worries so much about Glimmer, she'd just put her in the army and, on top of that, give her such a high rank.
I dunno. I haven't watched either this show or the original. Do you happen to know why this happened? Or do they show some reasoning behind this later?
Honestly you two are the voices of truth. I'm particularly mad about Mara, the previous She-ra, because the Light hope just remembers her for her mistake and we'll never see her perspective, she was probably very guilty for what she did.
What Iif instead of the Light hope, a fragment of MARA inside Adora's head was the one that explained Adora the She-ra backstory.
It would have made a lot of sense if She insisted on her not going back to her friends because she would still feel guilty and want Adora not to make the same mistake.
It would be interesting to have an ep. or two from Mara's perspective
ed:Also yeah! Having Mara talk to her, because she's had a similar experience. It would be emotional, because we know she just wants to help and is full of guilt, then Adora has to leave by the end.

Wow...... I used to like Glimmer but I didn't realize how much of a brat she is
same here, she is just the "cotton candy girl" in every series that is a bratty spoiled child but anyway she is in a high position of power and a "strong woman"

The queen is always a pet peeve for me, like, if they just made her Glimmers sister, their relationship might make more sense. Like a Nani and Lilo relationship.
I feel like the whole show was trying to emulate other shows instead of trying to be its own thing. I've seen all these scenes and plot beats in ATLA, Voltron, and other shows like them. She-ra and the Princess' of power has no identity of it's own, its the younger sibling trying to imitate its older siblings and failing to see why its older siblings did what they did in the first place.
Honestly this show could’ve used the exposition in like, Ep. 3.
whole season should have been lore building, and less Catra as portrayed by Noelle Stevenson.

Lighthope is clearly infected with a Trojan virus if she believes that Adora is better off breaking off contact with the world and not interfering, especially when all of Etheria is crumbling.
I remember thinking that since the original She-Ra was a spinoff of He-man that became its own thing after. That the new She-Ra was going to be a spinoff of the recent reboot of He-man and like the older one become its own thing and hold its own merit. After watching this series really made me miss the 2002 He-man lol

I feel like they are going to make Light Hope a practical bad guy in this series. Like, I get what they are going for as an Avatar -like show of Adroa being the long line of others before her to keep the balance and there is an adult figure that teaches the young hero about their past, powers and the balance of their world, as this feels very similar in that aspect. But this show fails even on that concept as we never see Adora actually struggle with her powers outside of almost being controlled by robots. We never see her curious about her position in life or even questioning if she can do this job. And this does not paint Light hope in a postivite view either as it seems she is forcing her to stay - just like Shadow Weather would have been like; where as with Ang (sorry for the bad spelling) did have a monk that was there for him, the monk also warned him about being too attached to the world/people near him so he can unlock his full strength because of his status as the Avatar might leave him vulnerable for attack but Ang still goes off to save those he loves; not disregarding the monks teachings but doing something impulsive to save the one he loves shows his growth. Adroa never has the same level of growth that they are trying to emulate. And the most grading part is that they are STILL making adult figures look like they are the bad guys forcing the teenagers to listen to them but in reality the teenagers are perfect as they are and don't need adult advice. The only adult figure that gets at least some positive character development is Queen Angelica and yet it is barely and she still gets no respect from Glimmer..... ugh!
I get that the message of doing what is right and following your heart is a good message, but this episode just was too muddled with exposition and annoyed character moments and Adora holding the "blame/idiot stick" just hurts anything good the last episode might have had for me. But I really like your review.

Youre right on point, i wish the "serialized" story plot about catras past, and what the first ones are from ep 8-13 started much earlier. Its what really got me loving the show.
Fun fact: Melendy Britt the original voice of She-Ra was Supposed to be the voice of light hope in this version

YAAAAAAAHP. It feels since Avatar was a massive success a lot of shows have been trying to ape on the series and here's the thing. Being INSPIRED by Avatar ISN'T the problem. I was inspired by Avatar, everyone and their grandmother was inspired by Avatar. You get the pattern. There's just a difference between being INSPIRED by something and then taking everything beat-by-beat and presenting it as something people should we reward you for.
I really wish the villains were fleshed out better & that they didn't try to stack Catra's 'reason why you suck' conflict on this moment. Hordak hasn't really shown his motivations. Your observation that he pretty much comes out to support Catra made me realize my disappointment in his characterization. We don't see him do anything else, so with no scale of how bad he truly is, the planet messing up is the biggest thing at stake.
Plot twist, lighthope is shadow weaver in disguise :)

The main problem with this chapter is that it's supposed that adora must learn something aside history, she need morality, but the only one thing that she learned is "I'm right", even the idea seems very similar to a chapter of Avatar.
And Shadow Weaver is a complete disappointment, every one of her fights in the show were decided with a single hit.
This show hates consistency or maybe they just expect the audience to have the memory of a goldfish... Didn't Catra toss the sword into the chasm ahead of Adora? Why is it on her back when she's having the flashback scene? (for that matter how does it stay there?? Nothing is holding it.)
Is Swift Wind's horn adjustable? Why does it change angles every scene depending on convenience? Why in one scene his wings are tri-colored 3:13 , then the next, just plain pink 3:34 ? LAZY! 15:49 The LIZARD got multi-color wings... 21:20 (also...so no character model sheets huh...)
Each princess supposedly equals Runestone right? For the balance? What about Entrapta, is she even magical? They're subtle hinting Catra's a princess... where's her Runestone. Do Angela and Glimmer just share one?
They basically made Synergy from Jem and the Holograms into a female Light Hope (for reasons, I guess just because they couldn't have LH be male).
The encouraging of kids to lie to their parents and sneak out is disturbing.... especially after how much they've hashed how this show is "for children..." I'm disappointed how this show bragged about superior art...and Glimmer's fingers look like claws... 4:16 ...
Why did they not explain why there was no She-Ra for 1000 years. You'd think that'd be vital information here... 7:37 ...

But why is Adora She-ra if the ability for She-ra to exist, doesn't exist anymore? Unless that specific (family?) line was broken, so it has the go to someone/thing new entirely.
Is this the main plot of the show(along with the CatraDora relationship), and hopefully they'll answer that as episodes go on? :D ...
Also is She-ra & LightHope an alien? If so, the reason it picked Adora could be she's a part of that ancient alien race, as well as any candidates before her. (But they never knew!)

I think swiftwind was not around because the transformation happened over time. His body was changed suddendly, his brain gained entirely new processes and he had a myriad of thoughts and new situations to grasp and understand, like a newborn. So him not understanding his new perspective of reality may have led him offtrack until a week ago when he did understood what had happened to him and started "forming complex thoughts" like "saving the other horses" and going back to the last place he remembers where he could find Adora or information about her wereabouts and help. And so, his personality is shitty, as most of us are when younger, idealists who claim to understand the world and being able to change it, despite barely having any knowledge of it. That's just my rationalization of (and excuse for the existance of) the shitty characther, i'm certain the writers just missed that train and made him like that for ze diverzity und incluzion agenda and the chuckles.

It's almost as if they only hired amateur Tumblr fan fiction writers to write this show!
I also wish that Shadow would have stayed in the series. Unless she does more on Season 2 (AKA Season 1 part 2) I'm kinda disappointed that now we have bargain bin Team Rocket as our main bad guys. Yeah, we have Hordak, but looks like they want to have him as an Overlord type of character so I don't see him doing much, and with what we saw before I'm not confident on it.
Are those red patches around the eyes and nose supposed to be shadings caused by light? They are ALWAYS there, no matter the angle, even when light directly hits that area of the characters' faces -- so it always ends up looking like a patch of sunburn to me..
I showed my 71 year old co-worker, who has no knowledge of She-Ra, no emotional ties & is therefore totally unbiased, pictures of She-Ra characters next to the Fake-Ra versions & she asked me why they look so ugly now & who the Hell designed them. 😅
She also said the new Scorpia looks like a man & couldn't understand why they made Castaspella look totally different & how could you possibly know it's the same character when they look totally different like that. She also said new She-Ra looks like a man, she didn't like new Catra's design, but loved the original & the only one she liked was Hordak because he looks like a vampire. 😂
So much for the nostalgia goggles excuse (she doesn't have nostalgia for She-Ra to begin with) or only middle-aged men dislike it because new She-Ra doesn't have boobs or whatever (she's a straight golden-aged woman). These kinds of reactions from people who don't know She-Ra from a bar of soap are the ones I find the most honest. Yet, interestingly they have the same thoughts I & many others have. 🤔
This reboot simply comes off as poorly thought-out. The writing is so terrible.
So this is really just the catra show.Why even have she-ra when catra gets the most development.

Actually, domestic cats can survive in the wild--they're the only cats that kill for fun--they rarely eat what they kill, but if they have to, if abandoned in the wild, they will. A domestic cat is basically a tiny tiger that can live outdoors or indoors. True, there are a lot of variables to take into consideration, but point being: a domestic cat has better odds at surviving in the wild than a domesticated dog.

Hmmm....Swift Wind being irresponsible for nearly 10 episodes freeing his own kind from man.
Still not as grating as Hiccup insisting dragons need saving from mankind for nearly 8 seasons.

As for sending bad messages to kids this show already did that with Adora leaving her clearly not
evil friends for dead upon realizing The Hoards true nature.
Adora's entire thing is constantly suffering from guilt (projected or deserved) and having a major martyr complex. Yes, she's needlessly blaming herself, but that's pretty much what she does.

First of, just beacuse the proportions and background design were bad, dosen't mean a scene is completley bad animated, beggining with the movement or character design are stable (yes, there is a diference between design and proportion).
2: What do you mean with Swift wind is bad animated? I haven't seen a better animated horse since spirit: the stale of the cimarrón.
3: What do you mean with regressed characterization? I get that you think that glimmer is being hypocrital trying to sneak out behind her mother's back even when they were finally gettin along but, here's the thing, let's say they told the queen about their mission and she says no, then they wouldn't be able to rescue adora (aka, their best friend and she ra (aka, their only chance to win the war.)). See my point?
4: It's too soon to have any answers about Drill. Remember that the last 4 episodes (10-13) happened in a time lapse of 3 days, so it's too soon to make that kind of questions, remembering that entrapta is not yet in the Hord sistem. About what would happened between the war it's probable that in the second season it's under Hord dictatorship.
5: In light hope's eyes bright moon isn't in danger (at least not yet) so there's really no rush to “heal" glimmer. It's not like the disconnection with her ruinstone is gona kill her.
6: Do you really think that they did Shadow Weaver weak? Beacuse I agree, but probably is to make her a great return as a great antagonist. So criticicing it now is too hasty.
In the End...Weaver didn't really come back as a great Antagonist. She spent most of her Time in different Prisons and was pretty much forced to work with the Rebellion after Prime appeared.
