I really hate Glimmer. She’s extremely annoying, and is one of the worst examples of a “strong female character” that I’ve ever seen. It sucks that the writers are more worried about the characters’ ethnicities and sexual orientations than their personalities and overall likability.

Kam3man For real. I’m surprised that anyone likes this show, to be honest. 90% of the characters are either bland or annoying, and the so-called “war” that’s going on between like 10 people in The Rebellion and around 7 people in The Horde is more low-stakes than PJ Masks, Paw Patrol, and Henry Danger combined. I feel like the fans of this show only care about the LGBT representation, because I see a lot more stuff about shipping than the actual plot. I can’t really blame them though, since LGBT characters are rare and there’s not a whole lot of plot to write about in the first place.

@@nunya786 I have seen complilations of Catra doing weird and "cute" cat noises, so it seems to me that the fans of this show like it not only for the shipping but also the akward teenager humor, but i think that theres shows that do that kind of stuff far better because thats the main focus of it instead of wasting time on a forced fantasy war setting, those shows are also far better written too.
Its almost like taking a old 80's action fantasy cartoon and remaking it into a poorly written teenage drama show was a really bad idea.

But, if I had been kidnapped and my life threatened and i just narrowly get out thanks to my friends, i would be super grateful to see my mom again and happy to be back home. But not her. She feels like this is just going to lead to her mom nagging at her more, which leads to her mistreating her mom in an attempt to keep from getting told off. It's just really terrible to watch!

Presumably she finds the embarrasment of being coddled by her mom over her kidnapping and torture (which her mom knows nothing about) more painful to go through than the kidnapping and torture she already went through. I mean I get it, teenagers hate their parents because they emberras them by being stifling and overbearing but here's the thing, this wasn't a ruined prom or a messed up slumber party. Glimmer was kidnapped and tortured presumably for a few hours at least, noelle stevenson cannot into drama and she certainly cannot into family matters.

Of course, Glimmer is in charge, she's Noelle Stevenson's self-inserted D&D character. She's said so. And you ladies have set your expectations way to high. I'm really sorry that you had to watch this.
And I think I need to point this out for everyone, She-Ra's season was split in two. This is why the pacing seems slow and/or off, because everything is working out towards episode 26 (I think that's how many they made? Or was it 24? I forget.) This is why, in this case, Adora wants to go training on Episode 10, because in reality, they haven't even hit mid season yet. And before I forget, they completed the entire season, so we're not going to see anything change.

On another video analyzing this episode there was something I pointed out so I'll do it here, too:
Angelica is both a MOTHER and a QUEEN. Her GENERAL and DAUGHTER was captured and tortured in an enemy base. Her and her team are seen visibly injured. What is the first response?
TAKE THEM TO THE INFIRMARY. There are no exceptions. Glimmer should have been manhandled there by nurses and doctors - she wouldn't have escpaed because she can't use her powers - ANOTHER RED FLAG to her queen and mother. Plot A SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.
Again, multiple great points are made here. Bow needs to stand up for himself and Glimmer needs to focus up while Adora should have been training from the start - her military-mentality is not consistent.
Also I saw a comment that I agree with: they can't show weakness - yet Kyle exists?
Also HOW DID THE ROBOT GET CAUGHT BY A PLUG?! I've never seen that happen before!!! Also how did Entrapta survive and WHY WAS THAT ROOM MADE IN THE FIRST PLACE?! WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE???
I am peeved that the stairs were gone in the next episode, they were pretty cool.
That alternative you presented about how this could have been the mysticore episode is genius. It goes further b/c after Catra does this and fail THEN Shadow weaver tries to do it herself. Thinkinh about it makes it seem better by the minute.

If it were therapy then many of the situations would call for them to actually look into their own faults and how to forgive themselves and become stronger but from what I'm seeing, it's just self validation, self validation and more self validation. It's not therapy more so than their own way of telling themselves that they're always right in their ways and its everyone else's fault. It's why we see so much apologizing in situations where there's no need for it. Bow doesn't need to apologize to Glimmer for jack shit. She's the one who has been the possessive, creepy little shit who acted like he owed her but he doesn't owe her ANYTHING.
As the video said, most of the shit that happened only did so because Glimmer was so far up her own ass and so immature about Bow getting along with other people she didn't watch out when Catra and Scorpia were planting the bombs. She was turning everything about HER the whole time and as a result the prom got wrecked, she and Bow got captured and her powers were fucked up.

Yeah, okay, whatever. Being sick is wrong, but being an outright weakling is perfectly fine...
Also, the Queen discovers what happened to Entrapta before Glimmer, Adora, and Bow arrived, but somehow doesn't know the details of what happened during the teams rescue mission? I'm sorry, but how? Who blew the whistle? More so, why didn't the queen just ask the person who told her about Entrapta what happened during the rescue mission?
And congratulations, Bow, for apologizing to a whiny brat over something you didn't even know she was angry about. I'm so glad everyone is whiling to take responsibility for Glimmer's mistakes. It stops all that pesky "character development" from standing in the way of character shipping moments.
*EDIT:* Oh, wow, great plan, Entrapta. Yeah, just stay behind in the enemy base so that your friends can rescue you rather than escaping on your own. Ironically, the show writers, who keep telling us how progressive they are, made a princess into a damsel in distress... *on purpose!* Yeah, real progressive, writers. And no, I don't care that she can get out or her bindings. She is choosing to stay with the enemy for the sake of being rescued. That's stupid.

That's one of the major problems I have with this show because it creates the stigma that girl shows NEED to do this; constant 'emotional support' that are just long bouts of whinging than long, drawn out conversations where everyone apologizes to each other, say the problem isn't their fault and then they all hug and make up. Even SHOJO, a genre which a lot of these creates take HEAVY influence from, doesn't even move to this beat, at least the good series anyway.

@@SuperCosmicMutantSquid my thoughts exactly. This is the exact opposite of what girls should be learning. They shouldn't expect people to always be there to emotionally comfort them because the world doesn't care about your problems or your feelings; its a harsh truth that the writers don't seem to understand themselves. Since they weren't given constant coddling at the age of 18 up through their 20s they feel hurt so this show is them getting their fantasy of just being told they're wonderful for nothing.
Noelle Stevenson has a lot of growing up to do and she's doing it through a series she was given which she had no interest in to begin with. I think if she had spent a few years working in retail or any other occupation where its guaranteed that people are going to be assholes to you that she would understand this. The entirety of this show comes off as her crying for help because she wasn't hugged enough as a kid. From all the hugging and crying scenes to the lack of positive family relations, this show is one massive projection of all of Noel's problems and insecurities. That's up to Noelle and her crew on how they're going to conduct themselves in the future but given she HAS been around for a while, I'm getting the feeling even in a professional setting she's always been coddle and she comes off as that type of person who before she was given these jobs, even if she worked in retail she would still blame the customers for their actions and not her own REaction towards them.
It honestly feels like all these shows and movies touted as being good for girls are just massive coddle-thons. It actually reminds me of an episode of the Simpsons where the school splits the kids up by gender only for Lisa to discover, to her horror, that the girls aren't really being taught anything. They're massivly coddled and told how wonderfu they are but there's no actual education going on but in the meantime, the boys are treated like savages and inmates but they're getting an actual EDUCATION and Lisa has to disguise herself in order to learn the things she actually has an interest in.
In animation it feels like the same thing is going on, with girl shows being those 22 minuet long validation-a-thons where nothing actually happens but boy shows can be rough, tough, and be fun. Its just AMAZING how these people make such a big deal about breaking 'gender norms' when they're the ones who are enforcing them.

I was REALLY annoyed at Glimmer in this episode. I mean this is not "I went out with friends and got drunk and now I don't want my mum to find out" situation. This is serious stuff. Of course her mum would be worried. I also didn't get why Adora, who untill now seemed somewhat more mature than Glimmer goes along with her plan.
Again, I don't know anything about the original show. Will watch it when my finals are over. But this show is deffinitely not one of my favourites. I'm not a salty fan of the original, I'm not an angry adult male who hates all things feminist. I'm a 21 year old who likes a good story and, more importantly to me, good characters. And while this show seems to have POTENTIAL for both, it currently has neither. There are some good, even great, concepts showing, but that's just that. They are concepts, and even if you have the greatest concept in the world and do nothing with it, you did nothing. The story is all over the place, the charecters are decent at best and the animation is often unpolished. When I started to watch I oped for another show that will fight for a place on my Top 10 list. Right now, all ten shows on that list are secure.
EDIT: In tje right mindset, I find this series kind of funny. Stupid funny. I watched a couple of episodes with my cousin and we laughed our socks off making fun of art incostitencies, weird plot points and stupid character decisions. Soo...yeah in that sort of way I can kind of recommend it.

Im starting to think only Adora was fed that crap about princesses being evil. Think about it, Catra in the very first episode or second i think, already said she knew the horde was lying about most everything, but didn't care. Sorpion Girl girl is a princess, and no one seems to know this because only Force Captains and up are taught this, and Catra ditches class on the regular. Entrapta just kind of joins the horde and no one seems to A.) Recognize that she's a princess or B.) Doesn't care.. I'm leaning toward B because everyone else from the horde who was at the prom must have seen the attendees and noticed Entrapta was there, so seeing her in the Fright Zone now apparently on their side isn't bothering them. Adora is apparently very gullible, and if thats true I love it! XD

    • @SuperCosmicMutantSquid
      @SuperCosmicMutantSquid 5 років тому +17

As a whole, the entire Princess Propaganda doesn't make sense, especially when they DO have Scorpia and now Entrapta on their side. Wouldn't it have just been easier to say that Glimmer's kingdom were the evil ones since it basically feels like the main hub of the entire show? And that their kingdom actually enslaved smaller ones and the Horde is made up of people from said fallen kingdoms, along with their banished rulers, to rise up against Glimmer and her mother?
Hell, Hordak could say that he was from a smaller kingdom or a banished Prince or something and that his actions are reclaiming the lost rites of his people and he wants to do the same for other lesser respected kingdoms for 'honor' or some shit. Something that would make the whole lie of the Horde indeed sound virtuous and give Adora a more sense of belonging and a bigger shock when she finds out that the Horde has lied to her all these years and her actions have HURT kingdoms instead of save them.

    • @Selvokaz
      @Selvokaz 5 років тому +9

@@SuperCosmicMutantSquid The thing is, is that they've established that the Horde and the Princesses have been fighting each other since at least before Glimmer herself was born. Scorpia's Kingdom was given to the Horde and her family didn't mind because and this is partially my opinion, Scorpia and her family were already on the outs with the other princesses/kingdoms. MJ talked about it before, but Scorpia points out that the other princesses didn't like Scorpia according to her. Whether this is true or not we can't tell, but looking at the various kingdoms, it doesn't seem all that implausible. Frosta and her kingdom seem to be highly isolated in both their region and their view of the conflict. Mermista who is the saddest of them all is pretty much a princess in name only as she is basically all alone in her kingdom, Entrapta was in a similar situation, but of her own making as she's more of a inventor than a ruler, and im pretty sure she'd never decreed a single thing since she became the ruler of Drill. I could go on, but the point is this whole seperate kingdoms thing is dumb. Some stupid special crystals gave a select group of people magical powers, and those people then used those powers to be worshipped and revered as royality and if Glimmer's mother is any indication became immortal god beings (is Glimmer going to get old and die before her mother's very eyes?). What im getting at is that there may be some other underlining reasons why the Kingdoms aren't exactly great for the common folk either. The Horde is definitely worse as if it's in anyway connected to the older She-Ra series, the horde army on Etheria is just the branch of it that Hordak controls, and Horde Prime has a much bigger and more powerful force off doing other stuff.

On the Scorpia thing; they didn't like her...was it because her powers were scary? As mentioned, the POW'AH CRYSTAL things gave a select few powers so...everyone in Scorpia's kingdom got BUG powers???
Okay, now I'm getting even more confused because it seems to be overcomplicating things AGAIN a feels like ANOTHER page lifted from Avatar. The warring nations but in this case rather than ONE NATION (Fire) going after all because it's armies were stronger, we have a (really badly organized) 'collection' from SUPPOSED larger branch (that hasn't been mentioned at all) that hasn't been doing much because in the meantime they've been (badly) training child soldiers that are supposed to be used to take over the other kingdoms but even at their weakest, they keep getting defeated and even with She-Ra, when you go back and LOOK at the fights and attacks, it's not really that threatening.
And given Glimmer's powers, I would expect that she would have an extended lifespan and her connection to her mother's kingdom COULD give her more but again, hardly anything is explained as it should be so it comes off as pointless sometimes. Also, for a kingdom that is RAVAGED in war since Glimmer was a baby, it seems very....lax. You'd think there would be more but....this doesn't feel like war at all.
Also the show just messed up in its own plot if they wanted to give Hordak a bit of an example of an actual evil princess. They SHOULD have kept Entrapta evil and I don't mean, she was LEAD to evil. I mean, if they wanted to give weight to Adora's delusion and Hordak's lies, Entrapta should have been one of the major baddies they fought and she SHOULD have been evil, using her hair powers and love of tech to entrap helpless people in her mazes. Her castle staff could have been suffering some Stolkhom Syndrom where in they thought that Entrapta was PROTECTING them because they couldn't protect themselves because they DIDN'T have powers, leading back to Bow teaching them how to defend themselves and Adora and Glimmer learning that even with their powers they can still be outsmarted and sometimes going without something for the baddie to target is the best thing they could do. They could defeat Entrapta but she becomes sort of a reoccuring baddie before actually JOINING the Horde and becoming friends with Catra as they share the similar hatred for Adora and Catra eventually realizes that Adora is not coming back or going to change to bring power back to the Horde but Entrapa is willing to do so, even if she was one of those 'evil princesses' they hated. So long as she gets to enslave and torture She-Ra, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I think you know what episode i'm talking about "Tales of Ban Sing Sei" (sorry if i butchered the title name). What i like about this episode is that, the main kid character's were traveling a lot to finally going to Ban Sing Sei, with fire nation are on their tail, Asula and her team are hunting them and her brother Zuko and Uncle Ihro And they deserve some breaks from all the running and fighting, and we got several story about our favorite character's! Katara and Toph going out as girl pals and learn a lot from each other, Aang being nice and kind for helping the Zoo owner for making bigger Zoo for Animals, Sakka being funny as always, Ihro's sad story, hech we even get a Momo moment where he misses Appa, and thats kinda sad when an animal sidekick has more development than this She-Ra Reboot character's.
What i'm trying to say is that if this show had more time, pacing, concistent and better development, than they could have made a filer episode a bit later when theres a lot of action.
Anyway that's what i'm saying and thinking, great video as always. ^^

First, because it's not at all what happened, they were pretty effective when they worked together and most importantly, HOW COULD THEY COME TO THAT KIND OF CONCLUSION ? Either the princesses or the writers ? Have they never heard about the "united we stand, divided we fall" idiom ?
Besides, if it sufficient to them to split up, it makes their alliance very weak and fragile.
Also, about Entrapa being a prisoner, that also annoys me when you have a character who has the possibility - even the ability of getting him/herself out of a bad situation but never takes it to their advantage and makes instead the most counterintuitive decision for the sake of playing damsel in distress only to be astonished that they're in distress.

Man you two always nail this so well! It's kinda the main reason I stop watching. I know when it comes to shows where it's the kids saving the world that the adults tend to act stupid. This show?...it's odd! I mean you have the adults who don't act stupid per say...but seem to have this whole, "Yeah a very bad thing happened 10 years or so and broke us all apart....AH we ain't really worried...anyone want to go to Applebees?" Meanwhile you have the kids/teens who for the most part are even WORSE! They are all about fighting he horde by I think I have seen the horde more so doing stuff and all of our Princess just happen to be there or around when it happens! I mean it's so bad that as I said in another video, how have the horde not taken over LONG ago?
Best answer that seems to be when you take a step back is that most areas have magic or tech protection that was up WAY LONG before or Princesses now took up the "fight" and might be just now becoming weak enough for the horde to attack...but then looking at the whole Prom/Ball Dance episode...maybe the Horde ain't in that much of a rush? Even they seem to have a "EH....we will get to it whenever we get to it." feel. I tell ya if these guys where facing the old school Horde they would have been taken over darn near the whole world before episode 1 or into said episode and still made ya laugh!

I have two theories on how Entrapta survived: One hinges on the Horde robot; whether there was a cockpit or space within, she could have accessed quickly. Then the 2nd; there was an exhaust duct she got into the and way they written her character to be distracted by technology{believe me I am stretching their really bad continuity of this show which has more holes than Swiss cheese again} that she got lost in the vent systems implied by this episode. Survival while trapped: This is easier to explain her hair can be sent out throughout the ducts, mainly avoiding fans, poison gas, fire, Shadow Weaver{she received one of the worst power downgrades she wouldn't survive a duel with original Shadow Weaver Filmation}, making a map{which again she could have accessed a way out, flaw techhappy} finding the kitchen in the Fright Zone stealing food. Catra found her via smell for I assume she had been in the ducts for several weeks, b.o. That's just my take on this two episodes of a clusterfrag of a series.

OMG THATS WHY I WAS SO BORED THRU THE WHOLE SEASON!!! It’s cuz there was no sense of tension or real stakes!!! Honestly, on my first and only viewing of this show, I’m not even joking, it literally just felt like such a drag. I didn’t wanna be watching it, and by the end, my mind had not been changed.
A good cartoon is something I don’t necessarily care enough to check out initially, or even one that I’m reluctant to watch/don’t wanna watch, and by the end of it, i found that i actually really enjoyed it. They prove my initial doubts and preconceptions about it wrong.
This show just solidified my opinion. It’s boring, there are no stakes, nothing makes sense, it’s not funny, entertaining or clever, the characters are easily distractible, and often times just act plain stupid. I don’t find the characters to be likable, except maybe Kyle cuz I can actually empathize with his character, but he’s literally being bullied by everyone and his very real problems (things that real people DO face) are played off as a joke, so that’s not a good sign.
Overall, 2/10 for this series. You tried, but I’d never watch it again.

What worries me more than the continuity errors is that I didn't even notice them until they were pointed out; I was just riding along with the story and caring about the characters. I suspect goodwill towards this show requires not relinquishing such sentimentality, both towards the show and the fandom's enjoyment thereof.
Personally, I liked this episode, but only because of Entrapta who shows herself to be more resource and hopeful than the entire Princess Alliance put together. Why did nobody notice her capability before? Given how they were talking about her making weapons I guess they just ditched her in an armory and waited for her to solve their problems for them.

I’m suddenly realizing why the Avatar Airbender series was alright with “filler” compared to Adora and zi think it has to do with technology. In ATLA, since theyre more medieval ancient ish, the speed of war is looming but not as quick and they can judge sometimes how long stuff can be - like the eclipse in the final season which is why Zuko had to tell them the timing is better a day before xoz that when the blood moon - I forgot but anyways teah
Comparing this to She Ra - things snow ball coz there was no stakes to Adora being found she escaped and technically the rebellion and towns seem relatively horde free/un invaded so it seemed like there wasnt a time limit/approaching threat. Which is why it felt kinda draggy. Like Hordak barely does anything to send people or make actions and it’s mostly Shadow Weaver and Catra - the latter just a force captain.
