This was really informative. This is exactly the kind of information I need. I would love even more info about how to create outfits for theatrical romantics - especially for when we want to look modern.
This was wonderful! I binged on your videos this weekend. Then I decided to look at some others on the same topic. Then tried to do some research on Kibbe himself. I think critics have it all wrong and they do not fully listen. These are not rules. As you stated in this wonderful video, it will depend on job, time in life and personal style. Let's face it budget too. But that is why I like all the explanation. So it had to be a long video. There are so many things a person can adjust. This was so helpful. Freeing.
Alys version of Kibbe is not the exact same as when you join the official Kibbe group. That's probably why it is slightly more freeing maybe. There are rules in the real strictly Kibbe system that aren't mentioned here on her channel. Some rules I don't agree with in the group. I'm a SD who used to be in the official Facebook group and remember disagreeing with Kibbe himself on shoes vs trainers for outfits. I completely understand where he was coming from in his reply, just different opinions on certain points based on culture and subcultures in fashion, that made me realise the real Kibbe system is narrow. But he is great at what he does, it's his system and he has the right to say how he wants the system to be.
@@thechronicreative I guess I will have to go to the library and get his book. The very little I read did not present it that way. This will be fun to go and read it. Man, I have not been to the library since pandemic. Woo HOO!
@@thechronicreative Having been in the group, can you share any important insights on SD? I am always left with questions after viewing the SD section of videos. I find some body types are always well covered and in-depth but something always seems less with SD and SC.. For example, why SD hair colour should be intense and the impact on the overall look if it's not. How does it affect facial structure? What's is optimal sleek or voluminous hair.... shoulder length or longer? In terms of ornate earrings. Do they have to be large or can earrings be small to medium but have an ornate look? Most times I find elaborate hair plus elaborate earrings too much. And don't mention if you add shoulder emphasis to that....All three combined just seems like a circus. What exactly is Kibbe's idea of large jewelry? Can it simply be something that's not dainty or is it always on the extreme extravagant side? Sometimes it's said waist emphasis is very important, other times the opposite is stated or presented as optional. I think waist emphasis is non negotiable but which is correct?
@@Cekatu I'm no Kibbe expert and again I don't love this system of styling. but there were things I noticed. He is the best one to go to if you like this sort of thing. I can say this, watch programmes and films with SDs in them? That may help, don't compare yourself, just observe.
1. Colour. It impacts features first, then a bit of structure.Rich, saturated pigments are exotic in his system. I guess to Kibbe we are a little more intense, rich, exotic in our features, in our presence. In the group he gets you to analyse your whole body silhouette for yourself and then look at the lines. Mine were longer than I realised, curvy and yet not very rounded like a romantic. My height isn't small at all but not as tall and long as a runaway model. When I was super slim I still wasn't as sharp as a dramatic.Yet all These features stand out a little too much as asymmetric to be a classic. So if I add to my facial features, hair colours that are not well pigmented, you notice the hair first. Every, single time. Almost like a bad wig that is not complimenting my face. But a rich black, vibrant deep red, a rich strong brown, a strong blonde means there is harmony between our eye's , full lips etc. For Kibbe what's on your head should not fight for attention. I have had so many hairstyles because I'm an mixed media artist, so when I look at pictures where my hair is a pale shade of a colour, rather than the primary colour, my features become hidden or boring. Watch the film or Google pictures of the film 'Malena' with Monica Bellucci, do you prefer the red or black when it comes to her facial features. Do think both of them work well?
I always loved to pair up my dr. martens or even the regular bulky hiking boots with flouncy skirts. It's such a fun and weird contrast. And then I figured out I'm (probably) Soft Gamine, and it's just nice to feel I was doing something 'right' all this time :D
Your outfit tips for each body types are helpful and we appreciate that. I thought that wider silhouettes and oversized clothes are too overwhelming on me despite of being 5ft9 tall, so what I do is I look for clothes that are narrower in shape but not to clingy because if I wear something lightweight and fitted like bodycon dresses it makes me look bloated. Waist emphasis do a great job if my shirt or jacket looks wide on my waist although I don't have any curves to show. Something that sits nicely on my waist to my upper hips. Platforms and chunky ethnic pieces are also a big no for me
I just love your voice Aly and hearing you speak. Your stuff is always soooo well researched- thank you. I would love you to do a video dressing all the Types with all different sizes of women not just Size 2 Romantics... or whatever type everyone is. An in depth look or even a real life shopping trip with a Size 2, 8, 16
The only thing that makes sense to me since she used to be SG is that she is purely G now, like her mom - meaning she got "rid" of some roundness/flesh. It makes sense if you look at her here: the sweater is quite Gamine in cut and pattern, and looks fantastic on her. Her cheekbones seem to be popping more, in general her facial features seem more sharp/chiseled
@@kthy31 Idk because this year she has been talking about essence and I think her view of Kibbe is changing. Her sweater is gamine this time, but in past videos she has adopted a very serious DC look instead of a Gamine style. She said "I'm not SG anymore, I am something else" and she put a lot of emphasis on "something else", she didn't say "I'm just Gamine", so I assume there's more behind. I sadly don't remember which video it was, but it was some months ago.
Your advice is gold! that is one of the best explanations of style in general that i've ever come across. Just know that your work is much appreciated❤️
I loved this! All of the pictures were so helpful! As another viewer commented, I’d love to see a deeper focus on classics. For example- what is “normal” clothing exactly? I feel I have such a good understanding of the other body types from watching your videos but not so much my own classic body type. It feels boring and plain and I would love to be able to see how to make it feel more special and more “me”. Thanks!
Well "normal" classic clothes are plain, simple and timeless, so I understand it can feel a bit boring sometimes. Pay attention to texture to add some interest, could be tweed or nice knit (but not overly chunky), a silk scarf is a nice way to dress an outfit up. Generally, adding jewellery is a nice way to add personality to an otherwise simple outfit.
can you do a video on business formal wear? as a romantic it is difficult to find formal clothes because a lot of the shapes and colours are more sharp and severe!
As someone who was in college from 1983-1987 on the east coast, the design rules about matching styles did not apply for the collegiate age range. We combined preppy with punk, romantic boho with biker, so it really did depend on your age and location. I also remember that my favorite outfits in high school (1979-1983) were composed of mu favorite jeans and sneakers with a dress blouse and blazer stolen from my mother’s closet.
Omg thank you for this Aly! I have been struggling to figure oui what an FG outfit is like for MY body. I see so many FG’s that pull off SG or G outfits, whereas I feel like a boy in girls clothing. 🤭
Im SG and i have always adapted my clothes to my body type with crops ,waist emphasis, high necklines , layering, fittedness and exposing my wrists and ankles and adding contrast, a symmetry and quirky elements. I would also manipulate oversized clothing to fit my frame. This video has made me realise how really well i was dressing and no wonder why i would vet so many compliments , get photographed by street photographers and have many trying to copy at me 😂 i was quite the trend setter. Now unknowingly i find myself slowly going back to the hair, makeup and style i had.
Wow wow wow best video yet, I love the info on balancing because you are bang on, knowing just some things to do that balance your look make dressing much easier to tailor or work for your own body. Great video!
Love this, but I am a little disappointed with the sn n part... it was so short! As a soft? Natural I often feel a little bit frumpy and would love more tips.
As a romantic working for a company that puts us in a stiff uniform I roll my sleeves up between wrist and elbow, which takes off a bit of elongation. That's also why in the picture the black and white top worked for Beyonce, because the sleeves were short and it looked like a smaller square on top of rounded, but longer "rectangle" of her legs. If you know what I mean.
Hello! 🌻I love your videos. I watched many, still trying to understand who I am. I think that I am "classic" type and in the real life. Always loved classic clothes, suits, skirts and dresses. Not a big fan of pants, I always choose femininity: high heels and dresses, instead of jeans and sneakers. 💃I am wearing classic and elegance clothes as long as I remembered myself. Already 16 years old I was wearing blazers and dresses as I am working in the office somewhere. 💁I did not care that people called me "a little lady", because that kind of clothes I always loved and felt most comfortable with. I guess pear shaped body dictated my style a little bit as well. I always was the same size 1.64 tall and 58-60 kg.If you could tell me what you think about it, would be great, so I would have a confirmation. Thanks in advance!🌺
Great video! (FN) It makes so much sense now why dressing in separates is so much more difficult than in dresses or jumpsuits (less opportunity for a disturbed vertical!), and why I find belts difficult to incorporate without it looking off. I'm realising that it is better if my belt matches the colour/value of my pants, shirt or dress.
This is so interesting because when you start learning about your kibbe body type, it's hard to see how you can integrate stuff you like from other types to your outfit. But this video showed how to and it was super helpful. Thank you!
42 minutes, a summary? Oh can these be in chapters so we can handle the information? You are brilliant but I can’t take it in in a large 42 minutes dose. Fascinating. Love you.
SD- Grooming brows and lashes, add volume to hair, structure around face, side fringes, big patterns in clothes, waist belts, use interesting contrasting colours, ornate earrings, some heels, longer clothes, bold hair colours
19:00 I discovered that a long scarf would also work well there. I have a dark violett dress which is over the knee and with long sleeves and it’s very high around the neck (like Aly) and very tight and have a pullover material. So it’s very Heavy. Without a scarf I look a little bit puffy. A belt doesn’t work well there because of the material and my little stomach. So I put a dark red, woolly, small, but long scarf on it. It creates a vertical line and balanced it out.
A lot of the looks remind me of the French style of adding something masculine to a very feminine outfit. The French love something that breaks the predictable look. A famine tiny print sundress with masculine jacket popped over it.
As a Soft Natural I like dressing all natural lines. If I want boldness and drama I dress like Flamboyant Natural. I think if I stay Natural overall, I can wear all 3 types and it looks right 😎
I love your observations I observe a similar thing in interior design with analogous and complementary colors. For example most people will try to do the most basic (and incorrect) form of decorating by employing a “matching” strategy using analogous colors on the color wheel like for example pink and purple and matching everything to each other , however when you look at the exact definite meaning of the word analogous you will find it is meaning opposite. Which is true by employing “matching” through analogous colors they’re actually simultaneously disrupting a true matching. A true matching in terms of definition would be complementary. Complementary being obviously more similar to matching then analogous like I just stated. So in essence using complementary colors like pink and green will “match” so to speak much better then analogous color wheels and stereotypical matching in most common/80s interiors. You will also observe in nature most of the coloration is complementary (“matching” lol) like bright pink flowers and green stems, orange sands and blue beaches etc. nature always holds the truth and this is the truth of a beautiful interior (imo)
I really love the content you provide. It’s so helpful. Can I make a video request? I’d be really interested in a video for those of us who are minimalists. As a Natural, I really struggle with taking those concepts and translating them to a more minimal style. For example, jewelry for naturals always seems to be big, colorful, with a lot going on. That’s way to “busy” for me. The simpler items I am drawn to would, generally, be considered to small or delicate according to kibbe. Please help ☺️
Dear Aly, I don’t feel that you gave enough at all about SN! You did FN and N, please include a video for the SN gals, maybe an addition to this video?
19:20 your advice isn't only relevant to busty SDs - a lot of flatter SDs get their curve from a waspish waist, and the straight line from the ribcage to the hip makes them look boxy. A matching belt is the ultimate solution for accommodating curve, I find.
It would be interesting and useful if you could make a video about how to wrap a head scarf (hijab) that Muslim women wear daily, for different body types and how to link it harmoniously with the appropriate clothe lines for the body type.
I relate to Taylor Swifts style because I am elongated and sharp and have a similar personal style. Love girly, cute clothes with ruffles, short flared skirts, empire waist… but can easily look awkward or like a grade school girl. But long, monochromatic and structured clothes look very elegant on me. But T Swift rocks both looks and so do I!
Man I’m learning so much about my body type and why I feel so uncomfortable in EVERYTHING that’s on trend. The most common (or most shown on social media at least) body type that dictates fashion the last few years is tall, thin, and attractive natural curves and I am zero of those things.
My face and my body are complete opposites: wide, mature and more masculine bone structure on face but very feminine, soft, slender, youthful and petite hourglass body. My body looks great in romantic, elegant, and feminine clothes so I try and soften my face as much as possible. I don't know if anyone else has this issue and found a better solution.

Thank you for mentioning how an SD with a cropped cut can styles their hair, I rarely see anything other than long styles.
Would you do a video about your body type? You said you're not soft gamine anymore.
She did?!
@@garlicgirl3149 Yes, I don't remember which video but it was a while ago.
I learn something valuable in every one of your videos. Thank you so much. For the first I am starting to feel secure about my style.
Oh Aly, where would we be without you 💖
I love Ally and I also love Mirriam Style. She's great also.
I’d love you to include time stamps for the different body types 😍🙈
I keep skipping through your videos searching for my type, it’s so hard to find 🙈
The top comment put time stamps for everything! The good thing is if she doesn’t time stamp it someone in her comments usually will 😂
This series is incredibly useful
Omg thank you for this Aly! I have been struggling to figure oui what an FG outfit is like for MY body. I see so many FG’s that pull off SG or G outfits, whereas I feel like a boy in girls clothing. 🤭
Me too, but i'm learning!
Loved! Loved! Loved! Your video helped interpret modern style with Kibbe for me. One of your best for this platform.
Thank you for giving a modern perspective on HTT outfits! Very helpful ☺️
It was a good lesson. I never realized any of that before.
Please do more on natural/soft naturals🤍
this is literally what I 'needed'. Thank you Aly!
Love you.
You have put so much work into this video! Bravo! A real professional!
Nice tip 😀 thanks
How do we handle a short waist? I "think" I am a soft classic but not sure. Thank you Aly. I love your work.
What a video!! Well done, Aly 🙌👏👏 Thank you for doing this!
The old FN, great video! I love to chill and watch your videos! Blessings Maggie
A lot of the looks remind me of the French style of adding something masculine to a very feminine outfit. The French love something that breaks the predictable look. A famine tiny print sundress with masculine jacket popped over it.
Aly, I'm addicted to your videos 🙂Love your sense of style and perfection in everything you do. Thanks for everything
As a Soft Natural I like dressing all natural lines. If I want boldness and drama I dress like Flamboyant Natural. I think if I stay Natural overall, I can wear all 3 types and it looks right 😎
this video was such a treat! thank you.
I agree!
Looong video - I love! So funny to hear you say 'sorry for that' Also, I tried your Patreon link and not sure it works in the UK?
Thank you! Should work - many from UK are subscribed!
Woohoo
Can't wait to relax and watch this video
Thanks aly yet again for so the amazing content you produce.
Thank you very interesting and very educational
Thank you so much for pointing out hijabis,I think we get forgotten or putted to the side alot even tho our hijab effects our outfits so much
I love that you include all ages. Thank you 😊
Aly, could you do a video for the body types specific for pregnancy? Like flattering clothes, hair, and accessories for the baby bump :)
I think I am a soft classic even if I am 160 cm in hight. Classic clothing has always looked stunning on me and the body type test said it too 🙂

I'm a clear/bright winter soft classic. Can you do a video on it? Apparently only 5% are that combo.
I recently discovered asmr and realized you would be a lovely person for that art form
Ozzy walking his dog!!!
@8:51 The center photo is of a man..Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath.
You are such a great teacher!!!
Thanks ☺️
Ps I love your glasses 🤓
Thank you so much for this Aly 🥺
Dear Aly, I don’t feel that you gave enough at all about SN! You did FN and N, please include a video for the SN gals, maybe an addition to this video?
Aly...i think a great perk would be timed one on one consultation, paid per level.
Your Input is fantastic Aly.
Would have appreciated more than just one minute for naturals / soft naturals
be a patrion and ask her to do it
That was my thought as well. She spent several minutes on some of the other body types, but barely discussed us Naturals.
I understand but most clothes are made for natural bodies, naturals can basically wear sweats and look good which is unfair haha
@@Alvyonzo pay her then on patrion. ask her to do it
@@SandraHof pay her then on patrion. ask her to do it
I relate to Taylor Swifts style because I am elongated and sharp and have a similar personal style. Love girly, cute clothes with ruffles, short flared skirts, empire waist… but can easily look awkward or like a grade school girl. But long, monochromatic and structured clothes look very elegant on me. But T Swift rocks both looks and so do I!
For gamines, if you wear a top with a loose collar (esp in neutral/pastel colour)...you can add a bold/dark colour outer to balance it too.
Man I’m learning so much about my body type and why I feel so uncomfortable in EVERYTHING that’s on trend. The most common (or most shown on social media at least) body type that dictates fashion the last few years is tall, thin, and attractive natural curves and I am zero of those things.
Great descriptions and options
love this as always, thank you!
Please do a video about inverted triangle body type. It's really like a curse
You are a genius
I love this! I follow both tr and sg rules!
best video of yours so far!!

What a treat!
This makes so much sense because I look awful in dusty/pale colors. I look good in bright and dark colors.
I love how Ozzie Osbourne made it in there!
