I love playing with makeup and fashion, but at the same time, I’m quite a minimalistic person. I don't like the idea of being fixated on the body too much. I have an alternative and unconventional viewpoint on beauty, the body types and face shapes. I love helping other women find their "it" and finally discover their beauty and boost their confidence.

    As a TR I find that if I have my eyebrows done and my hair and nails looking healthy, I can just slap on some lip gloss and walk out the door and still look like a beautiful goddess. My skin is by no means clear, but for some reason having neat eyebrows and glossy lips draws enough attention to themselves that my acne just fades to the background.

      My only big problem with eyebrows is their shape. They go naturally downwards, and with my droopy eyes and chubby cheeks (fat TRs can have very chubby cheeks) I look constantly bored or sad. TRs look good with arched or straight neet. So I have to brush them upwards and fix them with gel if possible but I still wished I had arched eyebrows...

    This is so funny because as a TR I found over the years to have learned how to do my makeup exactly as you’ve explained, just by experimenting on what looks good and what doesn’t on myself. A very low smudged under eye is so bad you are right. Great video!

      Same here, I use to think that I just was really bad at applying make-up until one day it hit me, I just don't look that good with a heavy under eye, specifically if it is a natural or natural glam look (I can kinda get away with an over-the-top Instagram look w/lots of color -especially warm tones for me orange/red, purples, and copper are best). Glad to I was right and that there are others like me lol.

    I have finally accepted that I am a TR. I have had so much resistance to this type because I felt like there was no way I was the "sexy" one; however I have been able to research it more and have realized that is just a stereotype. My TR two cents:
    Stay away from matte lipsticks. They look gorgeous in other people but on us it looks as if something died on our lips.
    Nothing on the lower lid, no shadow, not even mascara. I think that because our face bone structure trends to be smaller and there is no much space between our eyes and lips, we need to add light in that area and avoid any darkness.

    • @vl2663
      @vl2663 4 роки тому +82

      Agreed! It’s funny because I have never liked how putting mascara on my bottom lashes looks. I always felt it made my eyes look heavy even though all the makeup tutorials I would watch would encourage it because it’s supposed to make your eyes “brighter and more open” lol. Finally now I have some closure as to why I could never pull off bottom mascara. I only use mascara on my top lashes and prefer to focus it more on the outer lashes because I like how that looks on me, which is also another TR thing as Aly did that but with false lashes. Funny how it all makes perfect sense now.

    • @elektrakomplexet
      @elektrakomplexet 4 роки тому +18

      nicg g Satin or shiny lipsticks works wonders if you don’t want ultra glossy lips. I think metallic would be too bold for the delicate bone structure of a TR.

    • @chucksareforshmucks5520
      @chucksareforshmucks5520 4 роки тому +35

      I agree, and the mascara always smudges just a little bit. On others the subtle smidge would look sexy and natural, but on us it makes us look depressed and rough.
      People are starting to move away from big lashes, but HUGE top lashes are still our #1 thing. I think falsies or curling ours and adding black mascara is beautiful, even for blondes.
      This vid actually helps me solidify that I'm a TR and not a Gamine, because gamine staccato makeup looks awful, but this is all lovely.

  • @erin6448
    @erin6448 4 роки тому +197

    This was totally spot-on. A matte face makes us kinda look dead inside and heavy bottom lid eyeliner/mascara just isn't flattering at all. As for blush, we need something that is luminous (e.g., nars orgasm, milani luminoso) - matte blushes don't really do any favors to emphasize our cheekbone structure, and only light contouring is necessary. Matte lips just look awful as well, satin or glossy finishes work better. Shimmer looks really good on the eyelids in combination with either a darker matte or another darker shimmer in the crease (depends on how hooded our eyes are, however) with either a sharp or smudged out wing on the top lid. Personally, I like to brighten the undereye with a light-colored shadow. Monochromatic eye looks don't look that good on us as we need some dimension (if that makes sense).

    • @vl2663
      @vl2663 4 роки тому +8

      Agreed! And I especially love the last sentence. I feel like we as TRs need contrast not only in our face but in our clothes too. I feel that it’s because being monochromatic can have the same effect that matte powder does on our face and I think using contrast can bring out the slight sharpness/contours in our bone structure. I hope that makes sense. It’s very interesting because I myself have been trying to figure out my style, makeup, etc. for years and noticed a lot of things you mentioned before I ever knew what being a TR was.

      Okay after centuries I come to the conclusion I’m a theatrical romantic. I was denying it cause I didn’t think others saw me this sexy way but that is so dumb! I’m definitely a theatrical romantic recommendation wise. Also I always do my makeup this way even before this video and I knew kibbe I knew super matte makeup was not my friend and I couldn’t do heavy lashes or anything heavy on my face because it’s so small and close together and under eye makeup unless it’s super clean is a big no no I haven’t worn mascara under my eyes in forever because every time I try it ruins the look drags my face and I look tired or too old. I also go to glamorous looks stereotypical way when I want to look good quickly and it always works in simple things I can look boring or sad-ish lol and gamine lines hide my curves make me feel like a mom trying to be trendy and I’m 20. I thought I was soft dramatic cause I’m not super short and ppl notice my height but I only look long in photo in person everyone can tell I’m average height not small or tall so my vertical is moderate however classic lines also hides my curves and makes me look boring not chic… closest celebrities to my bodytype are Selena Gomez and marylin Monroe. Plus the tall types fn d and sd all make me look childish like a baby hiding in clothes because it’s much longer and heavy… so that’s when I realized even tho I’m not super short ( I’m 5’5) I’m still a theatrical romantic.

    I make this suggestion because I believe exploring styles is the main reason we end up wearing clothes that don't suit our bone structure, yet I also believe we can rock any style if we stick to our lines.

    TRs look very good with contrasted eyes and lips. Like, light lips/dark eyes, or darker lips/light eyeshadow or colours that create a contrast. Same colours for eyeshadow and lips is a no. I obtain a smokey eyes by simply smudging a lot dark brown shimmer eyeshadow. For eyebrows they always need to be very tidy. Meaning you need to brush them (I use a clean mascara brush, it's better), upwards, never downwards, pencil looks a bit too heavy, so I use transparent gel to keep them in position. Mat lips honestly are a no for me, so go for gloss, lips need to be very tidy though, use a pencil. I think I'll try a mat lipstick with metal finish. I feel like TRs can use almost any colour, as long as it has some shimmer. Glitter eyeliner looks fantastic. Blush is often a must for me personally. No foundation/mat powder would be better as it takes away the natural shine of the skin, it looks too heavy. BB creams are good, shimmer powers too, liquid light foundations with luminizer.

      I think it depends on their individual facial balance...I have small-ish eyes and small-ish lips on a fleshy Yin face, so I need to make them both equally intense or vivid, I can’t do pale colors anywhere, not even for daytime. I agree on the shimmer though, looks very flattering and makes me look fresh. Dark and matte color around the eyes (with no shimmer, frost or lighter color to contrast) looks like death on me. I highly recommend frost finishes in eyeshadow as a highlight, or for inner corners...they say frosty eyeshadow is dated, but it brings out my eyes like nothing else. I had a frosty orange-red lipstick and that looks gorgeous too, I used to wear it in the daytime with winged liner (those lips can look super gaudy and ‘too much’ on other types but TRs can pull it off!), nobody even noticed the frostiness, what they saw was how much it complemented my face.

      Veneris MAC ‘Nylon’ has been a firm favorite for a few years now (for upper lids, inner corners, a touch on the brow bone)...it’s a frosty white shade with a warm yellow undertone. If you are pale-skinned, it can also double as a face highlight. MAC has quite a few frosty shades you can check out. I use it on it’s own, dabbed lightly with my finger, and without other eyeshadows (just liner and mascara, I’m too lazy to apply and blend shadows for everyday). I also use it with my Naked or Naked 3 palettes when I want to go all the way for evenings. I think those Naked palettes are pretty good, the colors are universal and easy to match, plus most of the shades are shimmery with a few mattes to contour the eyelid.

    @nimedhel09 4 роки тому +28

    Thank you for the tutorial!
    TR tips? Well, for me, it's emphasis on the eye and lip shape!
    For the eyes, a shimmery champagne is all I need as a shadow, add a soft brown or green (because it looks delightful on dark irises) eyeliner, smudging a bit of the colour, but reaaaally lightly on the lower lashline, and voilà! Oh yeah, cat eyes. Flick that liner to create a cat eye, add a bit of shadow in the same colour, but to soften it, and you look gorgeous.
    Shimmers and metallics are perfect for our eyes. And using satin finishes on the outer corner and crease is something we can get away with (even more so if, like me, your have hooded eyes, lol).
    Lips. Just using a lip-liner a tone darker than the colour of your lips to follow the contours of your lips (no need to overdraw), a bit of gloss and you're set.
    Also, for the face, shimmery blush is the way to go. I never use contour, it just doesn't look good, sharpens the face too much, but a peachy blush with golden shimmer on the cheekbones is perfection for my skintone.

    Yay finally! Thanks Aly. Here are my own tips: I’m a 5’5 theatrical romantic with dark hair, dark eyes, and very fleshy oval/heart-shape face with puffy apple cheeks, thin rounded lips (like Aly), and my eyes are upturned, hooded and almond shaped. I had been mistaken for soft gamine because of my face, but my body is narrow hourglass, very fleshy everywhere, but with very prominent sharp collarbones. This make up suits me, but even for daytime I need to add more eyeliner (Matte, applied exactly like Aly did for all the gamines) and slightly more vivid color on my lips (can be matte or slightly glossy in the center), nude color looks very tiring on me, and vivid lipstick and liner must be applied sharp and precise in a rounded shape (again, exactly as Aly does it for gamine). Even when I do bare minimum make-up, I can actually skip blush and everything else, but I still need eyeliner (+ loads of mascara and maybe a touch of shimmer in inner corner) and lipstick (+lip liner), and of course groomed, neat brows. My eyes and lips are the only two dramatic features I have on my face, so I need to bring them out their drama, or they will fade into the fleshiness of my face and make me look quite plain. As for foundation, I feel like semi-matte or natural finish looks best and is so versatile. I also love bronzer, I skip contouring because it’s tricky on my fleshy face and can look dirty...bronzer sculpts my face and makes me look healthy, so I love it, especially when it has a satiny finish and a pinkish undertone (Guerlain Teracotta In Sun Blondes, my fave), so it doubles as a blusher. Highlighter all over my face ( especially on high points) looks beautiful still (I use Becca Moonstone, it’s subtle and natural looking on my NC15-NC20 complexion), never too much, makes me look fresh and younger. For night-time I love the ‘halo’ Or tulip eyeshadow placement with a pale frosty color in the center of lids and inner corner of eyes...Matte, dark, smokey eyes actually look quite bad on me and make me look aged...I definitely need some sparkle and brightness, with darkness only in the crease, and added for definition on the upper + lower lash lines.

    As a TR, you're 100% correct about looking bad with the bottom lid too smudged! I like how it looks on other kind of faces, but on me, it just makes me look super tired.
    I also try to do my eyeliner as thin as possible! Once I've had a Dramatic body type friend do my make-up, and she did the eyeliner the way she does it on herself, super sharp, super elongated, and too thick for my bone structure - on her, it looked amazing, while on me, it looked pretty bad(although she's GREAT at make-up. Our bone structures are just super different, and require different make-up).
    Another tip is that as a TR, I feel like I can just throw on some minimal make-up(that follows our rules) and put some glitter or gemstones in eye-catching areas, and then I look good and glamorous in just a few minutes!

    I'm so happy this video is finally here! Thank you so much Aly!
    I'm glad I've been doing my makeup right all along, I've always done smokey eyes in a sort of sultry brown color scheme that go with my eye color with shimmer and sometimes lightness in the middle and inner corner. I keep the eyeshadow on the lower lid very close to the eye and not smudged down (also focused on the outer corner and fade it inwards, that doesn't close the eye off and keeps you looking fresh and awake). Light beige on the water line. I also "pull" the shadow out and up on the sides and put more mascara on the outer corners than on the inside/middle. I also don't go too heavy and strong on the contouring. And I like a glossy finish to my lips, so I do that quite often too. I don't do nude lipsticks, always some tint at least. Usually not too bright of a color either since I like focus on my eyes.
    This is my everyday type of makeup. For special occasions I go for more contrast in the smokey eyes, even darker on the outer edges, a pop of color on the lid sometimes and sometimes a glittery shimmer instead of a lightly shimmery one. And more drama on the lashes and lash line.

    • @leechun996

      99% I do absolutely the same. And I do it also everyday. And I do not know anyone else of all my friends and relatives that they do it my way. But here you are kinda describing it exactly.
      I just do not do my lips, but eyes in the same way 100%.
      The only thing I also do is: press my lashes (after putting on mascara) against my fingers so they look up and so they look really long eventhough they are medium.
      here it can happen that the upper waterline loses a bit of the dark color. I just put some eyeliner there and it looks again much better, the lashes fuller ❤️

    • @mariannek6735
      @mariannek6735 4 роки тому

      @@leechun996 That's so cool! I also don't know anyone who does it this way, so this was unusual! As for the lashes, I bend them upwards for special occasions. But I bend with a lash curler before putting my mascara on, that way you won't loose any product and the hold is very good. I reccomend it if you haven't tried!

    Wow. I cannot believe how accurate this is! I have noticed that as long as my eyebrows and lips are done, I can pretty much pull off a minimal makeup look. I can't pull off the bushy soap brow trend that has been in style, mine need structure and color. And although I have ash blonde highlights on my dark brown hair, dark brown eyebrows still look best on me! Anytime I do anything on my bottom lashes, I feel like it drags down my whole face. I also stopped bringing my contour and blush to the middle of my face, and focused more on highlighting my cheekbones and bringing them up. Less is more! My color season is Bright Spring, so I have focused on brightening my complexion and having a more dewy look vs a matte one, and I totally see the difference! I would also suggest to other TR's to look into color correcting if you have dark under-eye bags like myself. What I have been doing is correcting my gray under-eye bags with pink corrector and concealer, and adding a very light pink shimmery shadow all over my eyelids, and delicately on my lower lashes, and I look wide awake and refreshed!

    I'm in the R /TR range, and I usually do glossy lips, colorful eyeliner (emerald, teal, plum, sapphire, etc), and shimmery shadows as my go to for going out. I often find blush is too much for me, no matter the color, type, or application because I'm naturally on the rosy side. I don't always line the bottom lid, but when I do, it's smudged and about 3/4... and I often add a soft shimmery color over it or even overlay two different liners.
    I definitely keep my eyebrows neat, and do lip gloss as a minimum.
    Because my body leans more R, and face, more TR, but also have ethereal and ingénue elements, it's been difficult to discern which is more me. After watching this, and some recent conversations with a friend, I think that I would describe myself as TR, but with the angelic type of drama more than a traditional Kibbe dramatic undertone.

      To update, now that I will be wearing glasses, I will be using my favorite Becca red to balance out my face. Still with the layered eyeliners, and still with glossiness. Maybe less eyeshadow as a general rule. The glasses will be red, to play up the R to TR side of things.

      Yes I'm the same, I have little to no dramatic essence and am a romantic ingenue ethereal TR. I'm focusing on the suggested Roccoco, Baroque style for outfit influence (like cottagecore but a little more aristocratic- like Marie Antoinette). It has a combination of glamorous detail with lightness, as opposed to the somewhat vampy siren darkness a lot of TRs lean more towards.

    I was wondering if I could give any tip and actually I have one. I'm just not sure if it looks just nice on me, on all TR or all women. I like to use a warm-shade bronzer for my cheekbones (not under) and also on a lower part of my nose's tip and on my chin. Just like a bronze-blush, blended well, without any sharp edges :) It gives some interesting and soft contrast to the face.

I put mascara on my lower lid but rarely use eye shadow down there. My problem is that my makeup runs and ends up smudging on my lower lid! Any tips for preventing this?

    I thought I was romantic body type, but gravitate a bit towards liking theatrical romantic styles. I watched this and everything you said made sense and this was the first time I've ever put blush on that it looked right for my face. Spot on that matte flattens and deadens our features and smudged under eye make-up makes me look like a hot mess. I'm almost 50 and wish I had this information 35 years ago! Much love to you for making these videos. It's wonderful to be learning things about ourselves at every age. 💖

    I'm a theatrical romantic. I discovered that because of your channel :) All those makeups would look great on me and somehow I always subconsciously followed the rules that you mentioned in this video ^^
    And yes, it is true. When I have the lower eyelid too blended it looks terrible, as if it was smudged by mistake and not blended on purpose :D
    I also have a bit upturned eyes as you mentioned. Light colors and shimmers look great on them + crayon line or eyeliner looks great on me.

    Yaayyy!! Even in the early 00s, as a pre-emo, post-grunge baby I was the only one of my friends who didn't do big smudgey eyeliner, just tightlining and so much mascara!
    I love using MAC face and body foundation - I almost never use it all over my face though. I mix it with my concealer to help the concealer look softer and more skinlike, and apply where I need it. I also mix it with lipstick for a shiny cream blush effect, and sometimes even with a shimmer for my highlight! I feel like it just helps tone down everything a little bit and allow me to focus everything on my eyes or my lips! I just recently learned to do a puppy liner instead of a cat eye and I LOVE the shape and attention that brings to my outer eye. I'm still struggling to keep my eyebrows neat but I absolutely agree with everyone that that is the most key thing to pay attention to. I currently like dark rose tones for lipstick but really go all over. Whatever kind of lipstick it is, I always apply with a lipbrush and not the applicator or the tube - I don't like to buy liners and that really helps give a similar definition and precision!

    As an Asian TR the same makeup tips also applied on me well. I was trying to do lots of contour but it ended up was just too much 😂 By the time I realized if my skin condition is good, I can just put a simple primer, neat eyebrow (thanks to mom and dad my eyebrow shape is quite complete just need to make it neat)and a lipstick that closed to my original lip color because my lip color was a little pale at most of time.
    If I doing TOO THOROUGH like those makeup videos it turned out to be so weird on my face🥹

  • @leechun996

    Great video and yes, as if you knew that the waiting was so hard 😁
    I do my make up almost exactly like this.
    and everything you mentioned regarding the under lid and matt/dry thing is so true.
    I never do my lips though.
    When I want them to be red, I eat slaty and or spicy food. My lips go bright, dark red an look better than with lipstick.
    Or if I am somewhere and want my lips do their charming job.. I brush my lips slightly (for I.e.a handcadechief.. It's best when it has structure, if nothing handy.. You can do it with your sleeve. Since my lips are clean, the sleeve will not get dirty).. This helps the blood circulation.. And i press them once strongly together.
    Works very well for me.
    Regarding the eye make up. I do it like UA-cam alexandragirlytalk her blended eyeshadow. After blending and stuff, I just add some eyeliner and the corner again..and do not blend it anymore. Always winged eyeliner of course ❤️
    For the lashes.. After applying my mascara.. I press them with my fingers upwards and wait a few seconds for them to dry.
    I of course do not press AL the way up.. Rather only a little so they do not tough the lid. You can imagine I have open eyes, and press my lashes against my fingers (rather than the other way around).
    TR cannot afford top clumpy eyelashes.. So I put mascara on a few times but wait in between to dry a little.
