Thank you very much for explaining the whole process. My bathtub had the same problem, I even had to replace the spring and rubber gasket. And luckily it was the same make and model that you used. Although I had my doubts, I did it and everything was perfect. Total repair cost $39.00. Excellent.
Larry, Thanks for the video. Showing that you had to pull up on the valve with pliers to remove it was the info I needed. By the way, my tub filler faucet is from 1998 and it's the exact same replacement valve as you used. I also replaced the spring with the cup washer and noticed it had some calcium buildup in the hole it fits in so I cleaned that off so the rubber cup washer wouldn't get stuck on it. Now everything is leak free.
Thank you so much for sharing your repair! I'm about to attack the same problem on the same faucet (but mine leaks from the spout). After watching your video I am now confident that I got the right parts and that I can make the repair and not get stuck with the water to the house shut off!
This video was a life saver. My tub faucet has been leaking for awhile now and l didn’t know how to fix it. This video was great and the process was simple. Thanks 😊
Thank you and thank you. Plumber wanted to replace the entire faucet, knock a hole in the tiles on side of roman tub....for $2K. Thanks to your video In was able to replace the cartridge but also needed to replace the seat and spring. Thanks again.
I have the exact same faucet. Does anyone know the model number? The screw attaching the spout to the water pipe will not tighten because the the threaded hole is stripped. I would like to replace the spout, but don't know the model number. I've read that the number is located on a tag on the water line, but getting to it would require removing tiles.
After getting everything replaced, one handle is now at a right angle to where it should be because it appears that the bracket in the process of removing the old cartridge managed to get turned 45°. I've tried a couple different ways to see if I could get it to rotate back 45° and so far everything just feels like I want to break something inside so I think we're going to have one handle north south and one handle east west.
Larry how do I line up the knobs after replacing them? I replaced the valve and marked where it should line up but the mark came off when the water came out and now the handle/knob is in the wrong direction.
bryan jones Shut off the water and remove the valve. Rotate it 180 degrees, either direction and re-insert it. It should seat properly. Test the handle to make sure it is going in the correct direction and then tighten the valve assembly. That should take care of it. If you look in the hole you should be able to see how the valve assembly fits down in there. Good Luck.
I believe the stops on the valve allow for four - 1/4 turns. Shut off the water and pull the valve and rotate 1/4 turn, left or right and that should align it the way you want.
my problem is when I have the cold water turned on and then turn it off water drips from the faucet, could it just be the spring and seat need to be replaced but not the valve? Or should all 3 be replaced? Thanks
Jim Lord If you look at the reply given by ratliff2006, he/she states which part is responsible. I am not sure if you can get replacement springs and seals, mine came with the valve. But he/she states that Delta will send them to you if you can wait for them. Good luck.
Sorry for the late reply. Yes, it very probably is the small seal at the bottom of the valve that I mentioned. You can buy those parts separately and they are quite inexpensive when compared to the actual valve. To get the water out, I use a turkey blaster to suck out the water around the seal. Make sure to insert the small end of the spring into the rubber seal and place it into the hole, spring side down. Replace the valve and tighten and you should be drip free.
I have the same Delta Roman tub deck mount. My leak is happening under the facet handles. When I pull the tub panel off, there are black cartridges under each knob. Then there is a solid piece of copper and a flexible piece of copper that comes out the bottom of the cartridge. That is where my leak is on both faucets. the leak is coming from the bottom of the cartridge and dripping down the solid and flex copper. Will this valve replacement repair that or is the housing cartridge the issue? Delta just sent me the whole new rough in kit for free. But if I can just pull the new valve out of the new rough in and reset it in the existing housing, that should stop my leak if I put the new spring and seat the rubber boot over top then drop the cartridge in, will I be good?
The rough-in kit is a lot of work. I would try the valve replacement first. Take a plumber’s 3/4” wire brush and make sure there is no scale built up in the cartridge chamber. Put in a new, matching, spring and rubber piece. Before inserting the new cartridge use your finger to make sure the spring and gasket are fully seated in its hole. Once I take off the large nut that secures the cartridge, I take a photo with your phone so I can make sure I re-insert the new valve correctly with the proper plastic piece inserted correctly. Then snug the locking cap down securely, not gorilla tight, but snug. Good luck.

Larry, I have the exact same faucet set in a newly purchased home. Can you help to identify the Delta series or model number or part number or something that will help me. I have searched the Delta site, but to no avail. Thank you.
Paula Jacoby - I am sorry I didn’t see your question. I had the same problem with my search. Our house was built in 2004 and I cannot find the model in the Delta catalog either. I took the valve out and went to the hardware store and matched it up to solve the issue. Good luck.
There is no identifying model # on my Roman Delta Faucet either. I called Delta and they sent me a free rough in kit that normally cost $328.00 Now I'm hoping I can take the valves out of the new one and put in the existing one so I don't have to sweat all that in again. My water is leaking from the bottom of the cartridge where the solid and flex copper pipe comes out the bottom of the cartridge. Water is dripping down the flex and solid copper pipe to the sub floor.
Sorry, Larry. I didn't mean the RP number. I saw that on your video, which I watched three times. I am referring to the actual spout and/or handle trim numbers. If I can identify the trim package, I can try to identify the rough-in. I'm thinking it may be R2707, but that is only a guess. If you can shed any light on the spout-trim number, that could help. Thanks again.
Paula Jacoby You can always carefully take apart the other valve assembly to verify the correct position. The black gasket is a seal that goes against the ball.
I wish you would addressed how the spring and black seat gasket stack up. My spring popped out and I can’t tell whether or not the spring stacks with the black seat gasket or if it drops into an opening beside it
Same issue - I have no idea if the spring sits on top of the black gasket or under. Also there are two (2) holes in the faucet; one straight down and one at an angle. I'm guessing the install is straight down and the spring goes in first to push the gasket UP against the valve. And thanks for taking the time to record and post video's like this to help others out - it is much appreciated!
