Thanks for the "several days later". My wife was wondering why this took me so long with a wall-mount. The special tool didn't work, but the principle of it told me what to do. I took the philips screw that originally was mounted in the cartridge and screwed it back in all the way, then pulled it with pliers. FINALLY came out.
fastest way to remove old cartridges is a hot air gun, I use a blow torch for 5-10 seconds , then a lil wiggle pull with vice grips and bam !! slides out fast keep a lil spray bottle to spray and cool afterwards
Yeah I got one just like it tysm for posting, unraveled the mystery for me! parts was clean and serviceable, just needed new O-ring. My escutcheons so frozen to pipe after 24 years they won't come off, I saw another post where some desperado sawed em off with a dremel cutter, lol.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for your wonderful video! In my case, I have a 24 year old installation but it took only an hour to replace the hot water cartridge. I cheated by using a little bit of WD40 to make it possible to twist and pull the old cartridge out (we don't really use the tub and definitely not drinking from it). My faucet looks exactly like yours and the cartridge number is 1248B and the Moen tool model number is #14272 like everyone pointed out.
Thank you for video Sir got the same Moen Roman tub faucet. Mine just started leaking we’re been here 10 yrs when we first bought new. Word of advice homeowners don’t wait 20 years to change faucets cartridge do it every 6 years that way it doesn’t get hard to get it out like in the video
Thanks for the video bud!!! I’m ordering the tool now and thanks for cartridge info to the guy above as well, saved me migraine, I’ll take the headache.

I'm in the same situation you have. Coming close to 20 years since my tub was installed. The only difference between our tubs is that my taps/spout have a few polished brass accents. I now see why I'm stumped with changing out the cold water side cartridge. I don't have the retaining nut removal tool. I'm not looking forward to tackling this change out now. Wish me luck....
@@MegaHowtoMan Greetings again. I called Moen Canada and they sent me a removal tool free of charge. Removing the cartridge was uneventful but installing the replacement was a little frustrating. I did eventually get it back together........ Your post did help alot. 👍👍
Good video. I had a challenge in that the new retainer nuts had about a 0.01" larger OD than the old ones. Fortunately, I was able to reuse the old nuts. The new ones were the black parts shown in the video.
I have the same arrangement and problems as you. Your video was good except you did not show how you removed the old valve, which is deep inside. Mine is stuck and I was looking for suggestions. I did try reattaching the screw with a washer and used a coat hanger for tugging. I am not successful yet. Next I'll try some Zep first and remove the washer, less angle. Update, the hanger without the washer worked.
I had to take a hacksaw blade and slowly cut into the plastic nut on opposite sides. I had to be very careful so that I wouldn’t cut into the metal threads that the nut screws into.
This little ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxVoi3B4CB6Oygq1-vo4OTL1M_M5JkrXif tub works perfect in our 6 x 6 shower and is easy to get in and out. Also easy to drain.
lol. i have the same setup and im in Arizona too. i am changing the whole faucet because the plastic that holds the handle inside broke on both of them.
I am also a staff member of an Amazon store that sells products such as hot tub thermostats. I wanted to inquire if you would be interested in testing our product.
Exactly what I need for fixing my hot tub Moen roman faucet. What size of hacksaw blade did you use to cut the plastic retaining nut? It is such tiny space. Mine is also over 20 years, can not get it out. Thanks

I have the same system as you. I confronted with the same problem as you, regarding the plastic retainer. While removing the plastic retainer with the tool, it was destroyed. You said that you had to cut the plastic retainer out, but you didn’t show how to cut it out? Did you use cutter knife?
I got to the point of using the tool to remove the retaining nut and it came out about 20 or so turns then it stopped. I sprayed some CLR foam spray into it and that helped a little but at this point the nut is gnarled to the point that it's stuck where it is. How did you end up cutting the retaining nut?
Super helpful video, thanks! Having the exact same issue as you and came to the conclusion I probably need to replace cartridge on our tub. Would you mind sharing the model # of the faucet and cartridge # you ended up buying? What did you use to cut that piece. I drilled holes in the "wrench" to get more torque, the wrench wore down the notches wheh the piece was less than a quarter inch from coming out at the top😢
My wife banged the handle the wrong way with her knee and now it turns too far back and water drips out. I’m trying to see how much of a headache this repair is going to be. It looks pretty bad…

Hi! Thanks a lot for the video! It helped me a lot. I could take out all of the parts except the cartridge. How did you pull out? Did you just pull it straight up with a vise grips? I think that is the most important part you didn't show in this video.

Nov 14/23, wow thank you for this, so helpful. I called Moen and they sent me new cartridges and handles all for free and my tub is 18 years old.

Great video. For the "several days later", how did you turn the water off to your tub without impacting the rest of the house?
I wasn’t able to do that as there are no shut off valves for the tub unlike the sinks.

You just twist them counter clockwise

I think that’s right
