i completed kapooka as a reserve 18 months ago loved every minute of it , i was a 45 year old man and everything this man is telling you is true, enjoy
Lee Littlewood did you find any problems with maturely at Kapooka.
there's a lot of dick measuring with the recruits but its getting softer at Kapooka judging off stories that the new guys coming out are saying
i went through 5 years ago and they were still physically violent with us i said "fuck off corporal" in frustration and i got punched in the face for my back chat now they cant touch you and if they do need to touch you they need to ask permission first
females get a free ride in my opinion they're nowhere near held to the same standards as the men but that's todays modern PC culture there's a big thing about complaints and no one wants to be hard anymore for gear of getting in trouble
He probably did, it is the Army after all. A bigger bunch of immature bastards I've never seen.
I'll probably go in 3 years :)
David I went through a two week Army Reserve recruit training as 17 or 18 year old and a 13 week Kapooka as 20 year old over 20 years ago and I can say that as long you’re a good bloke the younger recruits will look to the older blokes for direction and advice. You dont have to worry about immaturity as dealing with immaturity is what recruit training does best. Good luck and you’ll find your recruit training a life changing experience.
It is essential to have a mindset where you can put aside the yelling and listen to what is being said.
The message is more important than the delivery method which is often ‘yelling’ or delivered in harsh tones.
Remember that Kapooka is designed to test a persons ‘will and determination’ to overcome difficult situations. The yelling, harsh tones and treatment of recruits is designed to intentionally test the resolve of recruits to see if they meet the standards expected of soldiers in tough situations. Kapooka is an exercise in self control! There is no back chatting the instructors unless you are hell bent on having a bad day and potentially setting a path that leads to going home unsuccessful.
All the best to future recruits!
Cheers

How hard is it in terms of yelling? Are they like marines in your face?
@BudgetGainsByJJ not sure how bad it was back then but over the past 2 years they rarely single out and "shark attack" anymore. If you fuck up they'll grill you but they won't scream in your face and swarm you. Kapooka is only 9 weeks now.
Mate if all recruits had your mindset there would be a lot of time saved! I really admire your attitude and you are a great representative of our Army. Good work mate. I’ve got my Psych and DFR for infantryman next week. Fingered crossed 🤞🏼 thanks for the vid
Thatfilmguy how was it mate?
@@ddw-ge1ss Never heard back? He didn't make it?

So glad to hear about the Sunday church services
Second. But really good vid. Well done and keep up the good work.
Thanks mate!
It gets really hot, it gets really cold, it's basically a desert, but with trees and grass
Desert with trees hahah I use that term all the time
Thank you for creating these videos. I’m literally on the bus to Kapooka as I’m writing this and you’re providing me with a ton of preparation.
any advice?
@@exc878 I’m leaving tomorrow
@@samcassidy6834 ahahah have fun with it, big culture shock when u first get there but keep your head down and youll b right
@@exc878what is the shock? The discipline?
@@BudgetGainsByJJ well just the adjustment from civ life to training, that’s a culture shock in itself. Discipline falls into that for sure.
Going to Kapooka on 22nd of this month! thanks for the tips mate.
See you tomorrow mate
@@PS-nh6ct is ur enlistment tomorrow as well?
@@zyriak254 yep just Re-Watching all these videos. Are you in the newcastle area?
@@PS-nh6ct I'm from Adelaide. Will be in Kapooka on Tues morning.
@@zyriak254 yea nice, I'm from NSW Newcastle, staying at a hotel after enlistment ceremony then I'll be heading to kapooka on Tuesday aswell I believe.
Great video man. I'm off in August. One question - do reserves still have to shave their head?
Yep!
Bombardiers are called bombardiers to show respect to a job in artillery where soldiers use to die a lot doing that job. But the main reason a bombardier is called a bombardier is to fuck with recruits
Do bombardiers have the same insignia? How would u tell b/w a bombardier and corporal?
@@ianleung9288 a bombardier has 2 chevrons, and a corporal has 2 chevrons.
pretty sure bombardiers are called bombardier, mainly to fuck with recruits, and a little bit tradition, maybe 80-20 but more likley 90-10
"Psychologists" HAHAHA
Lauchlan Preston I laughed at that too 😂
Lol
At Kapooka, does your belongings get taken off you at training? If so, can you keep some things like medication?
can you make a vid about travelling to kapooka from your enlistment day?
Sure can!
Jump on a bus, everythings cool, then you pass through the gate, the yelling starts, people cry, it's a good time.
Ima become a IT for the navy
Hey mate,
So with being a chocco. Do u go to your unit then go to Kapooka whenever you're ready with ur civilian full time Job or when they tell u to go?
Hey FM, you either go to your unit or to a RIC Recruit Induction Training unit, you only go to Kapooka when it is convenient to both you and the unit/availability at kapooka. When finished Kapooka you go to your Unit for IET.
After all the morning routines and before the night routines is the trainin’ fun?
Hi I’m wanting to join the army as an infantryman.what tests would you do at kapooka and would it be the end of your kapooka training if you were to be pushed back.
is their any support to help you at get through your training at all ?
There are plenty of opportunities for remedial training, but always ask your mates for help. They're the ones who will get you through.
going on the reserve course on the 18th and shitting bricks lol
“We have... psychiatrists” 🤣
Gday mate, flyin down to Kapooka in July, I'll be turning 18 the next month whilst I'm there. Do ya know any tips are anything specific a young fella like myself should know before I head down? Anything I need to watch out for being so young?
You'll get a lot of shit for being the youngest, but you'll also get a lot of support. I was 18 when I was there, but there were two 17 year olds who were kind of treated like younger brothers but a lot of the late 20s early 30s guys. You'll have to have thick skin, but they'll look after you :)
Cheers heaps mate
I have a friend who's currently a corporal who went into kapooka 75kg and marched out weighing 53kg
Lmao wtf??? HOW
Bullshit....
@@TheStrataminor unless they lost a leg
I applied to become a driver I am 47 but in a good shape
weird question! is there any crawling / climbing through small spaces at Kapooka? eg. pipes that are only big enough for you to crawl and such! Cheers :)
For choccos only on the assault course, which you'll spend a whole day at. For ARA, you'll have to get a second opinion mate :)
In the ARA yes..... If you suffer from claustrophobia or vertigo, you are going to have a tough time
Yes, during the obstacle course which is done a few times from memory, practice runs + on the challenge. Memories a bit vague now as it was a few years back however there was one section of piping which we had to crawl through which was half filled with water, and it was a fairly tight fit from memory. Apart from that through I don’t remember too many other times we had to crawl through confined spaces.
Sneaky 2 questions about the chocco course; Does the Reserve course do the Australian War Memorial day thing? , and on weekends is there a slow down, or any break or does the course just continue as standard?
I dont care much about either of these I was just wondering, im not concerned if we get 0 free time what so ever just want to know if we do actually get any ahaha
When I went it was 0 free time, tempo doesn't slow down on weekends (but we did get 2 hours church time); try and get a second opinion from a recent graduate mate :)
no worries, thank for the answers, Zero free times good with me
Yes but does the Bombadier or Corporal wear that badge?
With living arrangements: do you get your own room or you get a roommate/roommates?
4 to a room. Females have there own room, ie no mixed sleeping, minimum 2 females in a room.
Great series mate, just wondering if you are able to use the f88 southpaw, I'm a lefty
Rory James I’m not in the service but I’m in the cadets and have used the f88 and it can be used in both right and left hands but when shooting it’s about what eye you use to shoot it sounds weird but that’s how it works
Thanks mate, your reply is much appreciated... good to know
All good mate, I'm a cacky hander too. You just have to deal with eye rolls is all.
What does JI and "the big pinapple" mean
how many courses go throw in a year at kapooka?
Every 2 weeks there's a new course, if I'm not mistaken
How often can you contact family and friends on your personal mobile?
Wacky Wookie every weekend
Really that depends on what your platoon staff are like and whether you have earned the right to get your mobiles given to you.
if you in the reserves do you still get paid, n how much do you get???
Depends on your corp, qualifications and rank, but I'm sure you'll be able to find some data on the Internet :)
If you do one weekend a mth it’s about $18,000 a yr
do you know the time limit for the 2.4k run and the 3 k run?
content.defencejobs.gov.au/pdf/army/dfa_document_basicfitnessassesment.pdf check it out :)
legend thank you
Is that a requirement before I join?
What is a chocko?
Am working in Ghana now as army forces can I join the ADF
Do I have to go to adfa to join as an infantry soldier or military police
@@paulrice1226you dont have to go to adfa to be an officer either, you can go directly to rmc
yeah fuck another question for the reserve course, PT is it done every morning or just a few times a week if so how many?
Usually every second day mate :)
thanks for the answer, i was previously told it was only twice a week or so but id much rather every second day if it is so.
Does anybody no what the food is like at kapooka
It’s Shit. Good selection but all mass produced and has the same weird taste.
Hey man, what happens if you fail the swim test?
I just started learning swimming and I don't think I have enough time before I leave for kapooka
Sgerrad1995 when are you going?
I've never been great with slang. What's a chokko?
Its a slang name for a reservist.
@@matthewcrowe2225 yeah ‘cos the A.I.F thinks the Reserves will melt in the heat of battle!
do you have to go to church service?
It is mandatory, but just suck it up and go in. I myself am not a believer but it's free time and free biscuits.
I didn’t think it was mandatory - wasn’t for us at least as our seccos gave us the option, but yes you should probably go. It’s a break from the barracks, a much needed break.
dont talk during PT unless you enjoy doing pushups. also dont be a smartarse toward the corporals. i ended up with 3 weeks of loss of pay and CSM's. it totally sucked.
are you allowed the undercut haircut, if its not too long?
Nope! Your head will become a bowling ball :)
@@htsk4898 Do you only get your hair cut once? After Kapooka, you're allowed any reasonable short haircut right?
have no faith? its fine....we have psychologists.
You said 10 min max for meals in the last video? Now you say 30 min??
Wait whats a JI
Why is your flag back to front?
Probably cause of the camera

what the maximum weight a male can be when join the army
Thats not a thing, However if your BMI is over 30 you will struggle to get into the army.
@@Aphony66 what is BMI?
@@joeyphaahla Body mass index, it’s a calculator that measures how fat you are in relation to your height and age
i have a question i am 15 and going to join the Army as soon as i hit 17, when and how do you get deployed?
Zach Perone You can start the application process for the defence force at 16 and 6 months of age. You can not however be sent to training until you are 17
Reubn thanks mate
I work in hospitality. Use of consistant profanity is a way of life. 🤣

Faze Killz reserve solider in aus
If you have no faith we have psychiatrists 🤣
I'll need a psychiatrist being a Buddhist
dude do you have to were speedos swimming?
Tristan Georgiadis Sure do ;)
that is the worst news I have heard all day... can you were board shorts?
Tristan Georgiadis nope. speedos only. if it's the fact you gotta wear dickies that's bothering you, understand that everyone is doing it and more focused on actually passing the swimming test then having a look at ya.
+Avatarbrad How important are the swimming tests? I can swim but i'm really bad at it...
I recommend training for it now if you have a decent amount of time between now and Kapooka, i personally didn't find the swimming test that difficult, but each to their own. From what I remember if you don't pass it there at Kapooka then you just catch up at your unit (reserves).
"kapooka rains even in winter", um ye thats normally when rain comes
Not really it usually comes in Late Winter, Spring and Early Summer.
this will sound stupid but what is a choccos??
Isshell Goorden chocco is army talk for reserve members
^
Soft and squishy... Not real soldiers :)
From the Second World War, it referred to the Militia who were known as "Chocos," short for "Chocolate Soldiers," ie they would melt in the heat of a real battle.
As opposed to the AIF who were "the real soldiers." Initially the Militia could not be deployed overseas, so they were also viciously called "Koalas," ie, not for export.
Smokers... Haha rules plz
Only smoke when you're told you can
^ Spot on!
or just dont
did Kapooka back in 1986 ..... sounds like good advice for the young ones . Sounds similar to the old days . The only difference is we were tougher

I dont want to be a downer here but its a months training. Try 3 months then another 6 months employment training
I've stated before in my videos that there are big differences between choco and reg training, but people have different tolerances and for most, they have careers and family outside of the army.
The HowTo Life How long do you go to employment training for as a reservist
Crying is not normal and is a sign of weakness. Bloody Reos
Hey man is there anyway I can talk to u like on Facebook or instergram about this because I’m joining in a year
