Australian Army Infantry Obstacle Course will it Beat You

- Australian Infantry Obstacle Course will it beat you is the question, army physical training especially infantry training across the world use the obstacle course as a test of toughness, leadership and teamwork for the simple reason it works, you will go from a standing start to exhaustion in moments and you will then spend the next however long feeling like you are in the last minute of a crucial football game knowing if your section does not perform your doing it again.
Infantry training doesn't care about your feelings it is designed to see where the breaking points are and to test weakness of body as well as mind to see who emerges as a leader under pressure and gets the team going or the character that goes internal and becomes selfish and the weak link.
There is no hiding on the infantry Obstacle course at the School of Infantry and you will be watched the whole time and you must succeed at every single hurdle or you and the section will fail.
You will be wet and you will be weighed down with the equipment you wear into battle this is the ultimate cross fit test and the secret ingredients are muscular endurance, mental and physical toughness and mate ship.
The Infantry Obstacle Course will bring out the weakness in men and if you are only Kapooka fit you will fail this course then good luck looking your team in the eye when they get told to get ready to go through again.
You are tested as a section not just as an individual and we don't car about your feelings.
Every infantry soldier has done this before you now it's your turn to prevail or fail what you do to prepare determines your ability to pass.

Proud to have such well trained, reliable, trustworthy allies as the Aussies 👍🇬🇧
Hey Senor Clive, where are you from Brother I am sure the compliment would be returned straight back to you no one wants to hold the line alone ..
Not our flag :I
It’s this: 🇦🇺
Anyways thanks for the comment, I want to join the army when I finish school, and Allies are a nice thing. Except when the enemy has allies of course 😁
I always hated those bloody knee pads, most the time they would just end up at your ankles lol
I don't believe in wearing knee pads unless your in an urban clearance operation, they are kind of a new thing to save the government money by mitigating knee injuries etc fir and movement your knee shouldn't touch the bound and taking a knee in marching order the same pressure is still put onto the knees either way.
Oliver Corfield I’m pretty sure they did and the pads are attachable to the pants and not strap on making them less likely to fall down
What knee pads?
Lucky to have any padding. We had nothing
I really love the editing on this video 🇦🇺❤️
Loren is Shining my transitions are shit but this gives the idea hey..
How good does it feel when you release a video then get to rest and watch lol
especially for the chipmunk voice
Aussie countryside, there's nothing like it in the world!💞🇦🇺💞
Despite the arse-busting activities, the climate and surroundings look lovely from a UK perspective! Here we associate these things with grey skies, cold mud and frozen testicles.🤷🏾♂️👏🏿👏🏿👍🏿🇬🇧
1:13 that riff breakdown is so awesome
Mate having experience makes the delivery easy to deliver with conviction and confidence..
Thank you for your comment mate
Brings back so many memories watching this
The feel of the Traverse rope in the fatigued shoulders as you were told ready ready GO
@@inthetrencheswithcas1762 yes yesss
been so long since ive done this, waaaaaayyyyy back in 2007, i remember the bayonet assault course seen in this video (on the right at 3:30), it was being constructed when i arrived in singleton ,being in a holding platoon I was first through it (it had figure 11's during our practice runs) which were later replaced with what i assume is still there today, the rubber and tyre figures, which, fun fact, being brand spankin new for the demonstration we had to put on for the chief of defence force (was angus houston at the time) my bayonet got stuck, had to straight up kick the target to get it out, certainly G'd up my SGT at the time lol
ahhh memories!
I was there in 2007 and still remembered the visit by the chief of the army (Peter Leahy) as well.
We were the last to use that old rusty barbwire infested of an obstacle course.
Worst year and the highest injury rates since mid 80s-90s. So many good men got wrecked before they tuned down the level of intensity and now became a pussy as of a joke training school.
@@abccba1119 I wonder..... by chance what platoon were you in at kapooka? I recall them splitting us guys in half on arrival, some started straight away, the other half got put into holding platoon, just wonderin if we know each other? 😂
Good video Cas,I am positive the traverse ropes used to be way higher maybe lowed for WHS issues and I hear they still do exercise hardcore at end of the IET course.
Gav🎲 your right to all the above accept the fact unable to pass Hard CORP’s used to get you back squaded and that maintained the standard with everyone else in the RAR that is not the case anymore sadly
Cas I just marched out of singo and 4 blokes got back squadded for not completing ex hard corps
my section broke the time record for hardcore at Singo. 1993 Bardia platoon👍
About half the height i reckon, and we went across the top of the rope. One guy broke his femur from my intake
@@whocanmakeyourwholeweek7272 I was 1993 SOI also
I love this vid thanks Cas
LEO WANKER STUNTMAN FOR LIFE. My pleasure this amplified the need for team work, toughness and individual fitness I hope the message is heard
That brings back memories Cas it's 46 years ago for me but remember it like yesterday. would do it all over in a heart beat tomorrow ( If I was able to do it )
Lol Jack apparently corona viris effects the old and that has now been defined as 46 and over so there you go mate your safe unlike me.
Do you remember how your arse drops out when they say righto lads get a drink were going through again, last section through always ran out of time and when you saw double session booked for the obs course you just know your about to face terror.
@@inthetrencheswithcas1762 yes mate I do remember that but after a few swear words you got on with it, no regrets at all
Last time I did an Obstacle course was in 2016. Most of it was about 40 meters in the air and I had to pay to have a go. These lucky Blokes get to do it for free😎
Michael Stott mate I am shit scared of heights so I’d rather the fatigue but dude the most I’ve ever done is 3 times through and I looked like I’d had a stroke after it lol
@@inthetrencheswithcas1762 I was part of the 1 brigade Best Male Obstacle course team in 03. Whole team was made up of ex grunts😉 we used to get dirked for every MilSkills events😂

Andrew Small yeah mate I was good at it but either way your gunna feel the trauma when you see it looming.
What was your most hated Obs I think mine was the crawl through pipes no it was the walk over monkey bars I used to shot myself
@Andrew Small oh my gosh, I know its an old comment, but hey andy! Went to high school with this guy!
20 years ago, when i was young and fit, i would have loved to have given this course a red hot crack. Unfortunately i turn 41 on the 18th March, so im probably more suited to the Kapooka Golf Course instead haha.
Loved the Vid Cas. Have a good week Cobber
ADF active app all the way
The first 9 seconds of this clip was my fav part....Cas sitting along side, where he once was many moons ago, giving advice and also subtle encouragement to a new potential Aussie Soldier.
He is exhausted.....

Lol I just got that. Keep your head down.
Jay mate the thought of doing the obs course now gives me mental trauma lol I would be gassed out so fast we age quickly mate that is a fact especially after 40 our body just starts to say no hey.
Jay your kidding me mate at 50 I was running 10km a day with major medical problems, l 60 now and keen to run again but my arthritis is setting in but I still do pushups, burpees and ride my bike 25km a day l will never give up on my health and l was a drop short at lavarack barracks. At 41 l lost me hair and l now look like angry Anderson, when l look in the mirror these days l feel like calling the cops thinking this old bastard is trying to backdoor me. Now drop and give me 20😁😎
I thought for a second they were going to walk on top of the tight rope for a sec
Lol no mate it’s called the traverse rope it’s a real bastard if you do it wrong you can rip your skin to buggery by rope burn
@@inthetrencheswithcas1762 that’s going to be a pain
we used to slide across the top of the rope. not hang upside down underneath. sliding across the top was faster and required less effort.
So excited to give this a crack. just awaiting my medical examination!!
Good luck but i would change your photo looks like it's promoting drugs could cost you a career if it's looked over and they get the wrong idea..
I wish you well let us know how you go matey..
I bet that's not 1/16th as fun as it looks from my arm-chair.
That first Joe Rogan bit got me twice. ha ha, I thought my browser was playing another tab. Nice thrash tunes too.
Catonius your a funny Bugger mate everyone deserves the lessons the Obs course teaches in humility, self awareness and team capability it would be funny as hell watching people suffer through it..
I Went Through The Obstacle Course At Cunangra and the one at singo
missed cunungra cos i was doing an assault pioneer course🤗 from what the rest of the platoon told me i was lucky. many blokes were broken.
I did the over pool obstacle course .height and water what a hoot, but a lot of injuries coming from it
It was a great way to test people while they think they are having fun in a controlled environment and a chance to wash the British soldiers too
Going for my assessment session soon. spewing infantry is full.
What are you going for instead
Artillery operator
But would switch to infantry tomorrow if I could in a heartbeat
Last time I did an obstacle course was 35 years ago.
Back then, we had mud, barbed-wire, smoke, 60's (firing blanks) and whizz-bangs...
At the end of the course, I and 4 others from my Plt asked the DS, if we could go through again, coz it was so much fun.
I do miss those great days.
Love your vids, Cas. BZ mate...
Militum Xpisti yeah mate but our gear honestly weighed 1/4 of the gear these guys carry, the way we did it was also a race remember which made us more motivated to hit the Obs harder...
These guys carry to much and for what worse injuries ...
Duty First mate
@@inthetrencheswithcas1762 I agree mate. Harder now in many ways...
Militum Xpisti but not all the soldering we used to do made sense and we were really held accountable but also felt protected by our leadership Tully, live fires, mil skills, boxing nights and a lot of exchanges with emphasis being on Light Infantry meaning skills over sleeping in the back mobility platforms
@@inthetrencheswithcas1762 haha, "boxing nights"... Mess footy, only one rule, "No swearing"...
Hahaha. We asked the same thing🤣🤣🤣
going through kapooka in 2 months. May 18th, anyone else? I believe its going to be bloody cold
Max Northeast lol right on dude it’s going to be the coldest you’ve ever been due to the exposure to cold relentless activities either drill, fitness or field Kapooka feels like the coldest place on earth and one minute shower never seems like enough..
Great job all the same let us know how it all goes mate..
I remember being at that exact place for cadets few years back
George January yeah there always seems to be cadets around Singo
In The Trenches With Cas too bad singo doesn’t have cadets :(
I wanna see the look on all the faced that think a 40 year cannot keep up with a 20 year. Best thing I like about this is the focus is on teamwork and cooperation. Edit for the spelling.
ha 40 year olds tend to keep up due to physical toughness not fitness everyone suffers on the Obs course the better you are the more you carry like performance based punishment and any extra energy is spent on helping the gunners or communicating with those in reference to technique or strategy to overcome the team based problem ahead.
@@inthetrencheswithcas1762 All I can do is smile to that answer. I just read the description and I am glad I am on the right track by training to exhaustion. 2nd set every time I think I am done and often ask myself in the 3rd set, how do I have extra energy in the 3rd set when I was exhausted in the 2nd?

No one went over the traverse ropes? Easiest way to do it. That said, god I hated the traverse ropes
Most don't go over the top in case they stuff it and blow out their arms on the big day, I am scared of heights and yep although being good at traverse Ropes I hate them all the same.
I'm a dual national of both the United States & the Philippines. I heard sometimes the Aussie Army drill in exercise operations with the Philippines. I wish Australia & Britain would train the Filipino Army in your infantry skills. I have a dream that the Philippines can have the SAS train a new commando unit for the Philippine military. China might attack the Philippines someday & I heard Australia is interested in aiding the Philippines because security in Southeast Asia is important to Australia.
Hey Rob, mate never say never with the US gaining Trump he is fully down with peace through strength you may just get your wish young Lion...
Video nicely put together,is that the F89Minimi they are doing the course with?
Yes mate it is the f89 mate there is no equality on the Obs course hey
Whats the deal with the rope traverse? You're supposed to flip yourself up onto it. At least that was the requirement 20 years ago. Dunno, looks a damn sight easier now days.
Hey mate, it's exactly the same regain method but they also allow you to go under the ropes as long as you complete the obstacle.. What Battalion did you end up at mate I was 2 RAR.
@ ended up at 6. It was a back squading offence if you couldn’t do it in 2002. All good.
Dad went to singleton in 89 reckons it was brutal He reckons compared that this is cakewalk
Mitsubishi good luck with your love life I am a Hyundai guy lol.
I went through Singo in 91 and yes it was brutal to be honest..
The equipment now but is double the weight of everything we carried in those days so its all relative I guess.
Looks fun as hell
RetroGamingRandomness lol it’s not it’s a slow death and makes you face exhaustion before you want to ha
Haha first one. Good video cas
To all those that have done this course it's probably more of a nightmare to behold and each individual obs has it's own stories and skin in the game.
As a man who is applying for infrantry, i look forward to this!
Keen to know when the next slot is for you? Don't give up. If you get through then you've done what most can't.

Best of luck
Ty for this amazing video, been thinking a lot about join the force lately
Li Bo Lin gre as t career mate like being around your best mates every day have a go
Hi Cas, nice video mate. Is that the course at Singleton?
Yes mate this is the Infantry Obs Course use to be compulsory to pass every single obs until ladies came to infantry now the assessors and the PTI's have to look the other way so they don't all get back squaded.
@@inthetrencheswithcas1762 thanks Cas, I see the ABC has lost the plot again
This is what fukes me you have to have yr10 passes no matter what gender you are or they won’t even look in your direction, yet the females only have to do 15psh ups within 2minutes come on man what’s up with this bullshit, even if you are a male who can do 70push ups or more an run a beep test level 12 plus they won’t even look at you
I think it's the same place there's a massive pool obstacle course in doors in this building were there's water
George January you are correct mate the over pool Obs course/ confidence course most of that is gone too but that indoor is where I have run some of my hardest sessions it’s always a scary session
The worst part is that bloody sand pit at the ends.
It’s absolute pus and the PTI’s love their buds worm up is the dame thing.
Yep that sand pit sucks but so do those horrid monkey bars for those scared of heights or untrusting of their wet worn boots
Can you make a video telling us the difference between Active Army VS Reserves, pros and cons... and most importantly, why are the reservists are hated by the Full-Timers 😏 Only just heard that.
I have a mate who is currently a NSW Riot Police officer and even he will tell you the reserves are run by monkeys.
@@user-rz8et4ry3u ah Okay fair enough. We got people transfering from full time to reserves telling us one thing, and those full timers who served 4+ years make fun of reservists. I guess it all comes down to what one actually went through during their service
@@freddyfreds4480 the entire organisation is toxic from the top down. You'd be better of Joining a milita when the time comes and but have to follow bullshit orders from people who hide behind a desk and pen while sending the rest to the slaughter like the British did to our Anzacs with Gallipoli.
@@user-rz8et4ry3u Possibly is true. As I am new to the Army life being " Choco " myself but always have been wondering as to why Reservists being hated for some reason. Do they have hard plates in these plate carriers for the obstacle course?
Grip strength is very important is what I see here
Grip strength is very important we definitely underestimate the value of our hands and feet until we injure them
Hi Fellas, is it initial military training kapooka?
Kapooka is basic recruit training Vikas then you go onto your specific CORP's training which is known as Initial Employment Training Infantry, Artillery, Mechanic etc mate..
Doss the navy-boats-wain do the same course???
Do a video on the Royal Emu Regiment as well😂😂😂
Lets see if these birds are ready for round 2
Singo is long, but it's not that hard. I remember doing the obs course at Holsworthy when climbing a rope and crossing, wasn't some poofy Navy 3 feet off the ground thing. But I'm old and since my day, knowing how to blow bubbles up an officers arse has become more important. Pity.
Hey Charles mate Singo is a lot harder due to the weight of equipment and combat ensemble the lads wear these days mate and there also seems to be way to much to learn but as you say if your prepared it's not as hard, sadly many are not prepared and the back squads are brutal for those that can't cut it.
I think you have been out of the game to long to know what the lads go through now in regards to the modern battlefield and being a Infantry Soldier is as good as it's ever been it's just different.

I will answer such an easy Questions,I was a Reserve Soldier over 35 years ago, but only lasted 3 years, as I had to leave due to work. That is the answer. We were know as the WOW,Weekend Warriors,we did a 2 week camp where the Regs did a Full course to became the Real Soldiers of the Australian Military and All of them deserve a Very Very Very big Salute from all of us.I made it through the March Out.I hate a Mate earlier that went through KAPOOKA,and it nearly destroyed him.He told me what he went through.Every single detail, and it was heartbreaking, its not for the heart fainted,I lost touch with him, so what got me to go as a Reserveist.I was talk into it, the money was great and the guy was a Soldier, and he hounded me til I decided to joint was young and also had young kids at the time and looking for extra money.like I said, i am 62 now.It change my life,I was in my 20's at the timely kids were only little and I went on the camp,At PakaPunyal. We had a Segargent mayor like Gomper Pile did, relentless but had our respect.I learnt heaps, we learnt how to March and that took time, we learnt Salute and how to look after a rife and how to use one and Machine gun and how to deal with gas as well,I could spend nearly a book of my short exprience , in the Armed forces ,I just wanted to drive a trucks will add more next
With your long comments....you should write a Novel
Do they not do regain anymore?

Hey young Johno sadly mate photography and videography was frowned on during most of my career and also my hands were normally taken up by a weapon so there is little to show in the way of either.
On operations OPSEC Operational Security meant and of the photos i did have of at least the Middle East Tour I had 1 camera broken on an Egyptian sand dune and another stolen by an Egyptian worker in the camp on the second last day of the tour.
Sorry mate but the stories are a can do for sure.
So what happens if there is an obstacle that you struggle with and can’t beat?

I JOINED IN 1980 GOT OUT 1992 IT'S SAID TO SEE HOW SOFT THE TRAINING HAS BECOME.
Only Kapooka mate Singo is harder in many ways than when I went in in 1991 but easier in other ways I feel Singo will never be easy however
I agree, the obstacles course looks as clean as a hospital. It's long, but easy and slow. I went through there in 85, and it was barbed wire, mud and dust. Cargo nets, and much higher traverse ropes.
I guess OH&S has turned it into a kid's adventure playground. A lot different to the '90s
I went through in 91 and yep it was tough as hell going through at speed 3 times then instructed multiple times in the last 15 years and it is harder in some ways like wearing the body armour etc but it is always tough even though it’s different..

So the next step as I cut out a heap as its such a long story, when I was in the 7th Transport Squadron as we were known, and based at Coburg which is well and truly gone,We Paraded every Tuesday Night, and did the parade every time, them we had to do a weekend away once every month, some where In the bush with some trucks and in Victoria, and set up our own Hootich,it was a one person tent and you had to put up yourself, and make sure you dug around it in case it rained. So the water went around you and not through the small tent. Also you had to sleep with your rife next to you.So what was next. We had a 2 weeks training course that was yearly, I was posted as the Officers Mess and in charge. No it seemed a cherished position, but it wasn't,So what was I in charge of.So I was in charge of, cleaning all knife forks and spoons of all the Ranking Offiecers Places, making sure they were perfect.i was told and shown how to place them and I was in charge of Serving them, everyone of them.I did that for a week.i was drinking with others one evening, and my sergeant Major accent me of over drinking and told to go to bed.I did what I was told, the next morning's told my Sergeant who was my higher officer that I quite being an billet to an Offiers mess.So I went and became the lowest of all of it.Did I mind,Hell No.I washed pans and I even had to have the key so I could open the kitchen up and start toasting bread and I had 400 slices to toast.
who else is 13 that really wants to join adf
Kapooka obs was harder lol. The old swampy one in Holsworthy is only small but it sucks your balls harder than a Serco cleaner looking for tips

Question. Will the obstacle course beat you? Answer is easy. If you go out there and don't work together then basically you are fucked. It's a team sport ladies and gentlemen. Even still it's still very hard and they make no apologies about it. What happens if your section is taking fire and the only thing between you and a lot of 9liner calls is a 10ft compound wall. Well if you don't work as a team then I'll put a poppy on your name at the Australian War Memorial. I know that's harsh but reality is a bitch. If you can't make the obstacle course join the navy and polish the fabled golden rivet. Live from the loony bin this is Brycey out. Shit don't forget DUTY FIRST.
Last one now, got to wear the full gear that at the time you never wear,Its like a Suit people.but way different. Not Even parade output its a Proud Suit for the Miltatiy. You wear the Full Mality Suit.I only wore it once,I was so Proud yet sad,Why?But then we lost a Lettant yeah the spelling isn't right, we lost a Officer to an accident that cost that Soldier their life,We were shown the vechicle as it washes a warning to us all, yeah it was nasty, it rolled serval times and it crushed. We were asked who would attend the Funeral and I put my hand up,Why?Because I never knew the person that died, but I wanted to respect that person, and honry yeah that is not right spelling .you ge it,At the funeral, and I am Roman Cathliloc, and been an Alter boy as well and went to church, for many years, cause I had to, I know the Our Father and the Hail Mary even tho this day,So a Soldier next to me wanted to know what was gong on, i tried to explain as short as I could and as softly as I could. All the way through. So as not to be dis respectful to dear departed.I was pulled to front the big chief and as I was over heard.I was asked why was I talking through the service. So I said , I am of Cathlolic Faith,i don't follow it now, but I know what goes on, a person next to was going on about the service,so I was trying to say this is what it means the believers, and how Mass works, the person didn't get it and shouldn't have put there their hand up, but I knew it all cause I was a church person.Do I believe now,No.I lost my faith, many years ago,I still know the Our Father, and the Hail Mary, word for word. Now I am done guys.

Hello mate I hope your life is going well and the lord has a place for us all to drink coffee together as we share stories in the afterlife.
Incredible respect to those serving and those who have served, but this video when it speeds up is so funny, with the high pitched voices and them jumping around in 2x speed looks so funny
All good mate I agree with you to be honest so don’t sweat it..
Hope 2025 brings an end to some of the conflicts raging around the world..

Why dose the music keep going off
Alright heavy metal oh shit someone’s groaning gotta stop the music..........errr.........DANANANANADADADADANANANANANA
I knew there was a reason l didn't want to be a grunt in 1980,because that crew sound like girls. I am 60 now and l reckon l could have a crack at that obstacle course and pass if there wasn't a time limit.😁😉
Mate clean skin you probably would have a good crack at this but with the gear on id say no chance i am not a fan at all of doing this course in the body armour with weapons etc it breaks equipment, breaks soldiers and achieves less than it would if they were clean skin and tested on speed, teamwork, toughness and a set time to achieve without the ability to be able to use equipment failure etc on a poor or failed result.
Try it at the end of hard corps....lol
Good footage, annoying music
Lol lucky I took the footage and didn’t play the music then...
You probably don’t know how royalty free music works..
Since this video I have artist now it’s only $400 a year to supply you with free expert advice or entertainment..
Enjoy..
I thought working out was hard
Better at 0.75x speed lol
oh.....that's what inf do .........um.......you know it's not nice yeah?
Gotto stand for something mate and if you have never served with a Regular Infantry Unit on Operations you would have no idea what your talking about or the good that infantry do to help, protect and or give hope to the families on the ground i would be interested in your Bio of achievements for others while judging those that don't live in comments sections.
What do you actually do Senor Darwin not judging just trying to understand your vague message a little clearer.
ok
Fuck I hate leopard crawling

The youth program
What do you mean, that this would be good for the youth ..?
Like in the UK the youth progam army cadets they use rifles out bush the L85 but we Australian army cadets don't do it and were like still apart of the commonwealth I think it be good to teach cadets over here once theyve done there first 3 years from 13 till 16 should then use rifles out bush and get a proper experience on what the army or army reserves will be like we only get to shoot the F-88 austeyr series 2 and F-89 minimi at singleton range or holsworthy or learn red in the shed and backnav were we go back to previouse checkpoint when navigating checkpoints or ratel and drill which is real fun but hard to remember but I like that we can do it at cadets, and rifles clearance drills were you check safe mag out (at clearence barrel) etc it teaches respect of rifle which is a quality of 4 cadet qualitys courage initiative respect and teamwork but we'd feel respected if used rifles out bush and Probaly get respect from general public at school and like its something to do while at school and it teaches good qualities like it should be compulsary instead of partying and stuff but I'm 18 now last year of cadets and hopefully when I'm 30 I join reserves to serve our majesty queen Elizabeth Il like you did Caz your the true heroes of this world cadets have tremendous respect for people in ADF we are inspired and look up too you guys
Wow.
