  • In this video we show you how to paint a Lumineth Realm-lords Vanari Dawnrider in the colours of Iliatha. These are gorgeous miniatures albeit a little tough to paint but this video guides you every step of the way with great tips on painting the white armour as well as painting a few different tones of metal.

    I've never painted a miniature in my life and yesterday I subbed to the DRPA.

      I really like that he can use the army painter stuff now, especially the wet palette in other videos, much better habits for ppl than just using gw/citadel stuff... not that they’re bad products, but it just lets new painters know they can use whatever is available to them

      @@JakeDogg-RIP GW/Citadel products are not bad, just overpriced and some lack the convenience of other brands (like, say, the pot the paints come in) to make you spend more.

Trying to figure it all out without a good guide when I got into it made me buy too much unneeded stuff that's just collecting dust. Either way, love your work and keep on rocking man.

      Goobertown hobbies has a really good intro to painting video that I used. It is a bit outdated though, so a new one from Duncan would be nice.

    I have no words to describe how magnificent this tutorial was, and how awesome looks the Vanari Rider after his finish. I'm using the Syar colours for my army, but this is asthonishing as well.

    I’m a pretty experienced painter at this point, Duncan’s vids helped me get back into the hobby years ago. I now regularly paint in more advanced styles, but I always come back to Duncan (and sub to DPRA) because when I want to get minis onto the Battlefield fairly quickly and looking good, Duncan always has the best tips!

    Well Duncan, I've watched a lot of how to paint for Lumineth and I liked your scheme and guide most by far.
    I'm still undecided which of the schemes to go for, but this one is close to the top.

      @@DuncanRhodesDRPA Yea, I appreciate the help with the white especially. I apply a lot of what I learn here to other miniatures (I don't play AOS. It's not my bag). I also really appreciate how good you are at showing the consistency of the paint when its at the correct levels.
      I also hadn't seen that Bronze on display, and it's definitely making me switch from using Balthasar Gold in my mixup to get the Bronze I want for them. That's not anything involving painting technique, it's just the right colour of Bronze damn it. lol

    Looks fantastic! How would you varnish this mini for use on the tabletop? I typically use a matt spray, but it really dulls down the metallic shine, which wouldn't be great for this armor.

    I love your Warhammer tutorials ever since I started watching WarhammerTV to help paint my Imperial Guard army. Do you think you can do more historical figures like the legionary? Something like a dark age cavalry from Gripping Beast range or any from the Byzantine range? I think your style of painting can really bring to life the vibrant use of colour for Byzantine troops.

    @Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy Have You considered doing a video on to how to paint some older minatures. I mean new ones are fantastic and have lots of details, but older edditons of Warhammer and WH40k are a bit "rougher", so how to enhance them with painting? Keep up a good work and 2 thin coats :)

    Hey Duncan. I absolutely loved this video and the colour scheme is fantastic. I'm going to use it on a Stormcast Eternal hero which will hopefully look good! I was wondering how long does a model like this take you to paint? It takes me hours to paint a single model to a respectable standard. I'm wondering if I'm just incredibly slow!

    I tried this white armour recipe on a Stormcast but they're quite round and fiddly in certain parts and it doesn't look as good as on flat surfaces. What's a good way to get this same cold result but on Stormcast?

    Hey Duncan! I've noticed that my Nuln oil dries excessively shiny, almost as shiny as my Nuln oil gloss. Is this normal? It's gotten to the point where I'd rather thin down abbadon black or black templar rather than use Nuln oil.

      Apply a thin coat of matt varnish afterwards 👌

      Not sure if you've sorted this yourself but this also happened to me with my Nuln oil and I've found that an extreme shaking does the job. I'm talking paint mixer level here.

      @@kampfeule5486 Don't open the lid fully wide, there's no need to bend the lid right back. That way you don't get it dripping onto the rim or the hinge of the lid. I've never had the clogging thing that others complain of and, as the lids continue to close properly, the paint doesn't dry out..... or create a spectacular mess when you shake the pot!

      @@kampfeule5486 A good shake (with the lid closed tight) or a stir with an old brush for paints with thick pigment. Sometimes, a ball bearing (416 stainless steel ). These have worked for me for many, many years 😊
