When you open up youtube hoping there's a bladeguard veteran tutorial for Blood Angels and the first thing in your recommended is that very thing from Duncan Rhodes. The God Emperor blesses me!
And with this highlight this model is nearly complete..... 28 minutes out of a 42 minutes video... 14 more minutes of details and highlights. I love this man.
I am reminded how much I missed Duncan's painting video - even though they are all on UA-cam.. Thank you so much, and this, even though is new, is just just just so nostalgic for me.
Hey Duncan, a million people have probably asked this already, but since you've featured a wet palette in this video, I think it would be helpful for people if you were to make a tutorial explaining their advantages, and how one could make one at home, or what types to look out for when shopping. But great video as usual! It's really relaxing to listen to your processes.
I'll chime in, while you wait for Duncan ;) Regarding the reasoning behind a wet palette and how to make one of your own, check out Uncle Atom's vid: ua-cam.com/video/96mjmqWTPfM/v-deo.html I've been using his home recipe for a while. Recently I've switched to the Redgrass Everlasting wet palette - it's a purpose made palette with paper sheets. It saved me a lot of trouble especially when looking for proper baking paper. In Poland you can't find a single one with info on the box regarding the paper being waxed or not (it shouldn't be waxed.) I've got a stockpile of waxed baking paper for a lifetime from buying different brands looking for non-waxed version :D
@@MaxZRider wax paper will literally not work, it won't let any moisture come through like unwaxed baking paper will, and depending on the region it may be next to impossible to find non waxed baking paper.
Mr. Duncan Rhodes! Thank you for putting this painting scheme and tutorial up! I wanted to paint these guys as Blood Angels and this is the perfect color scheme. Additionally, thank you for getting me into 40k in the first place!
I was so wanting this, building my box now, wanted to do Blood Angels, was surprised that no one had done a video on BA Bladeguard yet. Thank you Lord Duncan.
He has a video where he shows his very first mini. It's his things I wish I knew starting off vid. Go watch it, even just to see the mini, if you need some confidence.
Shamanic Rites What’s the difference between them? I’m seeing Iron Hands Steel in many of the newer vids while Leadbelcher was the standard before. Does it have a warmer tone?
If it wasn't for Duncan I would have never been able to get into Warhammer. I'm half blind, colorblind, half deaf, and dyslexic and between the Citadel app and Mr. Two Thin Coats himself I was able to actually progress and paint and I will always be eternally thankful.
Wow, thank you for the kind words Jeff but we can't take all the credit. You did all the hard work yourself and we just helped nudge you in the right direction. Keep painting and keep our hobby strong 😊
I love all this Indomitus content, because it means *someone* is going to be doing a tutorial on the exact chapter I'm looking to make my marines. Turns out that someone was you! Thanks, Duncan!
I agree to the foregoing comment. I often fall asleep, while listening to your calm, describing voice. Lovely! But I also appreciate your craftsmanship. Very, very nice work!
Re: tainted water (Mephiston Red in this case), I always have two water pots - one jar for rinsing the brush and a smaller one for taking water to thin the paint. Helps when using metallics too. It's a habit a lot of watercolourists use to keep their colours clean.
I made myself a dropper bottle of 10:1 distil water to windsors and newton matt medium and i use it to thin out most of my paints. Really keeps the paint doing what's its meant to do, it's cheap and fantastic for glazes.
That's what I do (and a third for metallics). Take a beginner pottery class, attempt to make coffee mugs. Neglect the fact that they'll shrink some when cooking them. End up with perfectly sized mini-painting water cups with enough heft to them to stay sturdy.
Going to be honest... this guy is an awesome painter. You can tell he has been doing it for a long time and really knows his stuff. The problem is the sheer number of paints and steps. I do know of course that nobody will make you buy all this stuff.. but for someone like myself I don't have these paints.. and unless someone told me differently I wouldn't know where to start or stop when it comes to actually painting it. It would be helpful to have you stop and be like, ok! This ones done its tabletop ready and this is a great model for normal gameplay now you can set the model down and move to the next. The steps just keep going and going.. endlessly.. its very daunting and intimidating. What I see when I look at the massive list of paints in the description is cost.
Hey i just want to let you know that i appreciate these long in depth videos. I enjoyed the videos you were in back at Warhammer TV, but i always thought they were way too short. Keep up the good work!

Question: Couldn't you just chop the arm off, then glue it back on when your done? Push fit. What does that mean? Maybe it's just me, cuz I'm so used to kit bashing.
Matt Cryptonic Depends on the tool you use or where you do it, but there would be a bit of a gap. Ex. Clippers tend to fold the plastic a little, so a saw might be better. Push fit means that the pieces come off the sprue with little pegs and holes that you literally push the models into place with as opposed to gluing. Advantage is not having to use glue. Disadvantage is there can sometimes be gaps between pieces after everything goes together. Oh, and sometimes the model has a weird way it goes together and something like a pauldron is actually in two pieces instead of one easy to clip piece
I can picture Nick Bayton shaking his head in sadness, and wondering where he went wrong. Wondering how you could bring yourself to willingly paint a Marine in anything other than Ultramarine colours (Though if I'm being honest, Sanguinius' Sons are the bestest)

Dear our lord and savour Duncan can I use normal spray paint on my miniatures than the standard games workshop paint I do not want to commit Hersey to thy emperor is our meaning
I would suggest experimenting with your normal spray before using it as primer. You really want a thin even coat as your primer and I've found most "normal" sprays come out fairly thick. Some normal sprays will allow you to achieve this, but not all. Also be wary of matte vs gloss sprays, as the gloss generally do not hold acrylic paints as much as you want.
Lol. I always use cheap spray for priming. Or I have Mephiston Red paint too, mainly cuz I paint word bearers. Yah. I know. Why don't I use word bearers red? Uniqueness. So many little tricks! Thanks for the video🔥🎸🔥
This brings back memories, I remember watching Duncan's painting Blood Angels Tactical Marines video after I bought my first box of minis years ago. Those were the days. Before the dark times. Before Primaris
Just fantastic. Absolutely fantastic
Now I can’t wait to get on to my Blood Angels successors with the Indomitus set, thank you so much for being an inspiration and I look forward to everything you have in store for the future.
Wow, thanks for the kind words Cody.
I'm just about to make my first Warhammer purchase. This video puts me at ease with the painting!
You can do it! And best of all, have fun painting :-)
