    Hi Shane, I actually managed to replace the IC chip myself, cost a small fortune getting all the parts etc but was pretty proud of myself, put it all together and absolutely ballsed up the bind board screwing down to the motherboard - one of the final steps!!!! The pins on the ribbon connector all look fine, but the connector it attaches to on what I can only presume is the main motherboard are bent to hell... can't find any mention online of how to fix this nor the part anywhere. Fear it may be ruined???

      Temps are fairly arbitrary. I use hotter temps than some for most things, but it's more about gun control, distance, nozzle size, etc. I use 500°c / 100 air on the Quick 861DW and use AMTECH NC-559-V2-TF Flux 10ml.

      I tend to use a high temp. But all temps are relative to the machine you're using and even two machines that are the same make and model will have differing temps at the same setting. It's all very dependent on your technique; how far away you have the nozzle, etc.

    really considering sending in my one x. not sure if its the retimer ic or not. it worked perfectly one day and the next day it started glitching a little bit. and now it won't even show a display in low res mode. i dissembled it thinking it might have been needing new thermal paste but that didn't change anything. Its my baby though and would really love to see it fully functional again. I spent tons of money buying chalupa boxes from taco bell to win it. My family loved the free food though! haha

    • @ShaneFix

      Hi Trenton, usually there are two issues that will prevent a signal going to your tv: 1- HDMI 2- Hard Drive. 90% of the time I find it's the HDMI circuit (usually the redriver IC chip) and about 10% of the time it's the hard drive. Hey Tyler, I'd be happy to help and thank you for the kind words! Well, considering my hot air stations are $300 for each and soldering station around $600, it's not cheaper to buy the equipment. Temps/flow are fairly arbitrary. What's more important is the technique used (like distance to the board, nozzle size and how long you leave it in one spot). The One X has a much higher failure rate for the HDMI redriver ic than the One S does with the retimer ic. However, it's fairly common on either. FYI, a bad hard drive will also cause display issues, so the first step we take on both the S/X is to check the hard drive health.

So i ordered 100$ of equiment on ebay and amazon: Amtech NC-559-V2-TF (the flux) , a heat gun, and the chip (i already got the rest). Right no I nerver do soldering but i gonna try it for the first time soon as the deliver man give me my kit ! Feel's really fooled by that stupid short warranty. I mean, did i spend 650$ for a machine that already not working anymore? I mean I really love playing on Xbox, that's a good console but damn I've already kill 4 Xbox 360, 1 Xbox One and 1 Xbox One X. That shit really start to pissing me off.
      By the way im concerned too by the part ''Tin IC chip'' .
      Hope you gonna solve your problem buddy!

    • @ShaneFix
      @ShaneFix  4 роки тому +2

      Hey guys, sorry for the confusion! "Tin" just means to add solder to whatever contacts need to be soldered to another contact. Over time, even brand new parts still in their original packaging, can oxidate which means they won't like to take solder and make a solid connection. The way to solve that is to simply apply flux and then solder each pin on the chip before you place it on the board, that way you know all those pins will actually connect.

      I've actually been planning to do a UA-cam series on the "cheaper" Amazon devices out there like heat stations, soldering irons, etc. to see if I could actually use them to get these sorts of jobs done. I've already bought some of the more popular "cheap" devices on Amazon, I just haven't had the time to do the video. It seems that all of America is stuck at home right now and now need their consoles fixed haha.... yeah, I'm a bit busy. Ugh.

      Yessir! As long as the mail is running, we will be also. And with everyone stuck at home with broken consoles, we're very busy. :) Here's our process: Once you order a repair from our website, you'll receive an email with instructions on how to package the console and where to send it using whichever mail service you prefer. The prices on our website include return shipping. I normally quote a 5 business day turnaround, from the time I receive the console to the time I ship it back to you. However, all packages are being held in quarantine for 2 days in response to COVID-19. Our normal quote of 5 business days for a repair is now 7 business days. We want to make sure we're taking the proper steps to keep both us and our customers safe. Once the console is out of quarantine, I send an email with the scheduled repair date.
      If the console is not repairable, you have two options- I can send the console back to you and refund your card, minus the cost of shipping, or I can refund your card entirely and recycle the console here locally for you.
      Let me know if you have other questions, thanks and stay safe!

    Hi there,I have one question I hope you can help me out,this is on a Xbox one X motherboard.I have successfully installed the retimer chip,but lost the tiny resister at C50 close to the retimer chip? Do I need this? If so where can I get this C50 tiny resister,or can I replace it with something? Please Help,I appreciate it deeply.Thank you.P.S. Nice Work.

      That is a 0.1uF capacitor supplying 3.3v to TDP158 (redriver IC). You can harvest any 0.1uF cap from another board that is the same package size and it should work.

      These boards take a lot of heat so you'll probably need to turn it up. It also depends on the model of hot air station you're using.

    I woke up today and my Xbox just pooped itself my Xbox turns on and everything but I get no signal I was thinking it was the hard drive because of the click click then nothing then click click the nothing sound it makes but now seeing about the retimer chip and stuff would make more sense ig because I literally get no signal like nothing pops up

    • @ShaneFix
      @ShaneFix  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Rob, there are two things that can cause "no signal" on a One X. The HDMI circuit (usually the redriver ic) or the hard drive. We find that the redriver (retimer is in the One S) is the culprit and about 10% of the time it's the hard drive.
