- Xbox One with Damaged HDMI Port | LEARNING to Solder
I purchased a faulty Xbox One original on Ebay for £32.99. It had a broken HDMI port, and looked like somebody had bitten it?! Can we fix it? :)

Thanks for watching! Did you enjoy this style of content? 😊
Loved it man. nice work
Absolutely filthy! Meaning yes
I like it. It was very entertaining as well.
Yes, great video
love that you pointed out the issues and what caused it.
Cant learn if you don't see other peoples mistakes and how they fix them.
Good to see that all you experts struggle with ports. Well done for leaving it in the video. Keep up the good work.
Haha Nigel I would consider myself FAR from an expert, but I really appreciate the kind words, thankyou :)
GG on fixing this Xbox, plus learning from your UA-cam videos help me learn how to fix stuff like Xbox or PlayStation
Good to hear Isaiah, I hope you have a good day :)
I liked this style of video. Commentary was great. Thanks for your efforts.
Thanks for the feedback Michael! Its appreciated 👍
Thumbs up to you for fixing that - the new style of video is okay, and I wouldn't mind seeing more. Also, what kind of slob lets their stuff even get close to that condition?
I'd love to agree KP, but if I'm being honest, I never really cleaned my Xbox One haha. When I took it apart though it wasn't as dirty as this, but I think that's because I don't smoke etc.
Great fix joey im going to get a atten ST-862D hot air station for christmas so i can replace the hdmi port on a trash picked xbox one i found with a faulty hdmi port but i was always not confident in replacing a hdmi port it looks really hard but you really inspire me and after this video i think ill be able to fix it i cant wait to try and fix it keep up the amazing work
Good to hear Daniel! Let me know how it goes :)
@@JoeyDoesTech will do :)
I’m very glad to watch this close-up! I recently got two Xbox one S consuls where one is going to be parts and the other will be the working Xbox. I’m probably going to watch this video a couple of times due to the fact that I’m going to screw something up and I can watch somebody else screw up first and hopefully I can learn from the mistake!
Exactly! I try and show every mistake I make, so that hopefully it helps other people :)
Excellent repair. Was fun to watch.
Thanks Mikee 😊
loved the new style and great fix ;)
Thanks Roy! 😎😊
Great video joey it’s great when you fix stuff makes me feel good too thanks again
Thanks Dean! Yeah was a good one :)
Good comment over your soldering! Good fix! Man you are getting micro surgeon level good!! 👍
Thanks Jason! Yeah we're slowly getting there, long way to go though!
@@JoeyDoesTech you are learning a lot and showing us your journey. Great content!
Nice fix Joey! :)
Thanks Kiki!
Incredible job!) Doing great!
Thanks Nick :)
Awesome job mate!
Thanks mate :)
great stuff mate
Thanks Steve :)
Good video, good job replacing port. Glad to see you using a soldering iron, it's a skill that requires practice. As far as video format is concerned, it was good for port replacement, would not use it for in depth troubleshooting. Like I said, good job. Thank You...
Thanks Warren, appreciate the feedback :)
Looks awesome mate great progress. If you want a really good affordable hot air station look atvthe atten st-862d i believe, its what ill be purchasing as my first smd station.
Thanks Blue. Yeah that's actually what I'm looking at getting soon 😊
Damn. It's insane how people treat their consoles. A little dust is fair enough but all the other junk and residue is crazy.
Agreed Abdul!
Got wood Joey? Lol great job mate, you got there in the end... Next time maybe give the drop method a try (heat up from the bottom and drop the new port in) just to get a bit of experience with different methods?
P.S I prefer the old style but still enjoyed this ;)
😂😂 A small piece of wood at that! Yeah would like to try the heat up and drop, just to play about and see which one I prefer :)
@@JoeyDoesTech not something to brag about mate 😂 yeah the drop method works pretty well to be honest
Chisel tip & draw the solder towards the pin ends to clear bridges 👌
Excellent!
Great video. Better tool easier fix 😉😉
Thanks Froz :)
Hi Joey, thanks for the great vdeos, getting better and better rall the time. I'm wondering if you can help me mate. I'm trying to identify the little 6 pin chip to the back left of the hdmi port. Its marked jb2 7, but i cant figure out the part to find a replacement. Had a bit of a shaky day and managed to knock it off the board lol. Any help you could give in identifying it would be greatly appreciated
Good video :D I also have problem with replace damaged HDMI port :/ I've tried to put some new tin on pins and unsolder them, but didn't have any result... I don't know what I'm doing wrong but have only soldering iron set on 440 C but nothing happend... I'm not sure if I need heat gun to unsolder this port?
Should send that ceral to Phil that way he don't need to eat dust....great fix mate progress is good.
Haha love that Danny. Thanks for watching :)
where did you get the hdmi port from?!
Great job didn't get it the first time but didn't give up and fixed it loved the video
Thankyou Dak :)
@@JoeyDoesTech your welcome
In my honest opinion Joey, THIS is The Best video you made yet! And it was good idea to eat my KFC before watching 🐢 DISGUSTIN
I really enjoeyd that "format" with commentary and work done in background!
And ofc mistakes has been made but without mistakes we would never learn :)
Really good job Joey ❤
Ahh Krus man thankyou for the kind words! Appreciate it :) Want to mix it up where and when I can to make it entertaining for you 😊
No matter what it is, as long as You do it , it is entertaining :)
Amazing tekkers again Mr Does Tech. That soldering iron seems to be way easier to handle than the Yihua. Definitely worth the upgrade. 👍
Thanks Steve! Yeah it makes life easier :)
Does anybody know where to get the hdmi port for the xbox one 2013 model I can’t find it it’s all for Xbox one X and S
Next time use hot air with the soldering iron. Hot air around 250C and really low air speed. Soldering iron around 280C. You will be able to pick up the drag soldering real quick.
Hey again Jesus 😁 Yeah I failed on this one. Are the temperature's you suggested with low melt solder?
@@JoeyDoesTech No. I have never used low melt solder. Just make sure you are using some good flux and solder.
Good flux brands: amtech and chipquik (try amtech first, chipquik is a pain to clean.)
For solder I have always use 60/40 made by Kester. (Simply never cared of trying anything new, it has worked great so far.)
The next bit will be you practicing and finding your own way to do things. I can only teach you how I have found success with my tools. You are starting out and it seems like you are at it alone. You are going to screw stuff up but always remember to learn a bit more every time you try. Respectfully, use your brain as much as you can and don’t make the same mistakes twice. Understand the mechanics by which your tools are adding heat. That will help you control the heat within the board. The reason you couldn’t drag solder is because the board was not hot enough.
And never forget flux is your friend. Always use it, don’t just blow it away and don’t just burn it with the soldering iron. I use both hotair and soldering iron at the same time all the time.
@@JoeyDoesTech your soldering iron looks dirty. Dirty tips don’t allow you to manipulate solder. It basically pushes the solder away instead of holding it. I recommend cleaning with a weller wpb1 cleaning bar. However I went years scraping it with a dull exacto knife and never had to much trouble. I just don’t recommend sandpaper, files or stones. You will lose your tip real fast.
If you do get the weller bar its best to use it while the tip is cold.
Do you have fume extractor?
Yes :)
Gotta love getting a great deal on a gross console, lol.
Yeah cool video, do you think you will ever invest in an amscope microscope?
Very tempting John. Might be an upgrade later down the line to be honest, what I have at the moment works :)
@@JoeyDoesTech I have gone down the same route as you and now wondering if its worth investing..
Anothet disgusting Xbox One saved. Great job!
Thanks Leon :)
LoL that crud is mostley human skin' & hair , & for some reason all the consoles that i had done like that smell minty' weird !
Hey
Hey Lopikss 😊😊
