probably by the looks of things, add flux, use hot air station to heat the chip. delicately wriggle it until it is loose. remove it and replace with the replacement. wriggle that into place nicely. add more flux and hot air and then you should be done.
Thanks for this, I cloned my xbox 1 X's hard drive, installed it and then nothing, blank screen...then you said that a common issue can be caused by the HD. So, I opened it back up only to find the sata cable wasn't seated properly, clicked it in closed it up and blammo! Fixed.

Changhed back to known working original 1TB Seagate HDD and still no output. Scary thing? The console has been used a handful of times since purchase. I won't have the skills to fix based on the miniature nature of the chip on the motherboard. Did you buy a replacement chip or source from another console?
1) I was a couple months beyond the 1 year warranty so called a repair shop and the dude said he could take a look but he won’t solder. Basically he said it sounded like my xbox was screwed. 2) Looked into getting it repaired by xbox for $259 + shipping 3) Took it apart myself, got frustrated, and smashed it to pieces. Will just wait and get a Series X whenever they are back in stock. Good day
@TronicsFix, are you using an IR preheat plate under the board? I bought a replacement tip and have been holding hot air on the chip at about 800F and it will not come off. I think the heat is wicking away on the ground plane but wasn't sure if the components on the bottom side of the board would fall off.
Thanks for the video, man. My wife's console had this no signal issue. She took into a shop and they tried a different hard drive and replaced the HDMI ports. I think they tried something else but I can't remember what it was. I found your video on this and thought it was great, so I went back to the shop and had them replace that retiming chip. However this didn't fix my issue. I'm wondering if they used the right chip as they game me a different price than what I found online. I also had to wait a couple of weeks for them to get it. The chip that they installed does not appear to be clearly marked like the original. Anyway, is there any other possible issue other than the HDMI port, a different hard drive or this retiming chip that you can think of? Thanks in advance.
Hey, mine doesn't show anything in the screen, but the tv actually recognizes it when I turn it on, it says that there is a signal but nothing happens And I changed the hard drive and still nothing
Hi, I ´ve got the same problem...which chip do you replace? I mean is it the same one or a new chip? And where have you got it??? I can not see your link for your shop...
@@ivelsoup Indeed, but i think they want to know the brand. lol... it's probably SRA Fast Chip or Quick Chip, there are a few other brands... but this is what you're looking for not just a generic flux.
Am I right in saying he just used liquid flux and a heat gun to remove and replace the timer chip? So no actual soldering is required? Just keep the heat on the leftover solder and the flux will hold it in place until the new chip is placed on the board?
Another really easy way to check if it is the Hard drive is boot it up and then use console companion to stream your xbox. It won't stream with a bad hard drive.
Great video. Very informative. My xbox one X doesnt have this exact issue. Mine has started screen flickering which I can only fix by restarting the console. Have you heard/seen this issue before?
I would really like to do this project myself. I contacted Microsoft and they're saying itll take a month or two to fix and minimum $250. I would rather learn my self. What is the liquid or gel, that you placed on the microchip? Is that to remove the seal and do place a different gel to create a new seal when you replace the chip? That was basically the only part I didn't understand. And it seems pretty important.
Thanks tronics for sharing the tips and tricks to repair the display issue. My xbox has a similar problem and when i boot it with the power button and eject button it does show up display at the 640x480 resolution and when i try changing to higher resolution, the display is blank. can you advise what could be the problem
I also used putting my XBOX ONE X hard drive into my PC to see if it still worked. It did. Then I put another hard drive into the XBOX so it appears I may have the same type of problem. Unfortunately, being so bad at it, I've grown to absolutely detest soldering. I used to relatively enjoy it using my stepdad's , but then I got gifted a cheap iron and using it drives me up the wall.
how to repair black screen of death for 'repair men' cause i sure as hell can't do this. I just ran into this problem and i think i'm gonna have to just buy a new one unless theirs an easier way.
If you kids at home attempt to solder on a board like this watch your heat. If you have a iron you can regulate your temp start low. Stuff modern days is wave soldered which is a lower temp solder and one of the reasons the red ring happened on the 360 that and bad cooling working togther.
you just saw a step by step video on how to do it. go slow, and give it a try. your Xbox likely doesn’t work anyway (like mine, currently), so why not try to learn and/or fail? you can do it.
Display Interface IC 6 Gbps AC Coupled to TMDS/HDMI Redriver 40-WQFN 0 to 85 TDP158 by texas instruments is a redriver for hdmi or display port is a "controller" that detects your screen then it control the outpout resolution means 4k /1080p etc if the chip dies the xbox dont know what type of screen are you conecting
Console makers LOVE their screws. Wait till you see the Wii U, it's so small yet has about as many screws as this. There's one like Evey inch of the perimeter of the board it's ridiculous lol
longtime viewer and enjoy watching your repair videos. I have a gears of war 5 Xbox one x that is suffering from this issue. is there a way I can send it in for repair? what's the best way to get in touch with you? id like to get it repaired for my son to use. thanks :)
I have an Xbox One S and I'm hearing beeps and chimes and controller is pairing and LEDs and fan are working but I'm getting no video. I checked HDMI port and it looks pristine. I checked filters for continuity, no problems there. I replaced the HDMI Retimer IC and I feel like I did a pretty good job. Carefully inspected all pins under microscope and the chip is well aligned for the most part (2 sides seem perfectly aligned and two sides are ever so slightly offset but there a no bridges and all pins are making contact with their respective pads. Before I did this, I replaced one of the VRM MOSFETs which was causing a short and no power. I tried holding down both the eject and power buttons until I heard a beep after 10-15 seconds still no video. I suspect that uBGA ESD chip that you mentioned might be bad. I'm getting 1.8v on R8B3, 0V on C8B1, 5v on either C8B2, 3.3V on C8B3, 3.3V on R8B8, R8B7, R8B6 & R8B5. This is after I reflowed this chip last night. Before I could have sworn I was getting only 0.36v on R8B3 and sometimes I'm getting an intermittent short to ground on C8B2. On my last round of testing I didn't get it though. I've searched for this IC part number it looks like PXD 809. It seems like there's an ST logo on the top. I can't find this part. Can you assist me? Am I getting the correct voltages when the unit is plugged in on standby?

Great video! I am actually trying to diagnose the same issues on my buddies' one X. Quick question, what is the clear solution you put on before and after replacing the "retimer" chip, I didn't see a link, was it flux?
Was that flux you were using before taking off the chip? I plan on doing this to my xbox but thats the only part I wasn't sure about is what you were using there.

2) Looked into getting it repaired by xbox for $259 + shipping
3) Took it apart myself, got frustrated, and smashed it to pieces. Will just wait and get a Series X whenever they are back in stock.
Good day
shanefix.com can fix these much cheaper
@@Tronicsfix I smashed it. POS xbox dies after a year. Maybe I needed a better HDMI cable as I hear
@TronicsFix, are you using an IR preheat plate under the board? I bought a replacement tip and have been holding hot air on the chip at about 800F and it will not come off. I think the heat is wicking away on the ground plane but wasn't sure if the components on the bottom side of the board would fall off.
Mines done this a few times after reboots, If the troubleshoot menu won't come up try just turning it on and leaving it for some time. Fixes mine.
@tronicsfix what temp do you set your heat gun for this? I am thinking about fixing mine.
I dont see in your sponsored parts list the retimer chip itself. Do you know where I can get one? Do you have a part number
Hey, mine doesn't show anything in the screen, but the tv actually recognizes it when I turn it on, it says that there is a signal but nothing happens
And I changed the hard drive and still nothing
Same any look repairing ?
Hi, I ´ve got the same problem...which chip do you replace? I mean is it the same one or a new chip? And where have you got it??? I can not see your link for your shop...
Very nice video. Helped me a lot. Can I ask one thing tho, is fixing it like it will permanently fix this?
What kind of solution are you using on the re-timing chip to get it loose and reattach and is it heat your applying to it both to remove and reapply
Yeah I was really hoping he’d tell us
It's called flux.
@@ivelsoup Indeed, but i think they want to know the brand. lol... it's probably SRA Fast Chip or Quick Chip, there are a few other brands... but this is what you're looking for not just a generic flux.
another awesome video from steve
Hey thanks!
Never understood hdmi issues. As long as I've had hdmi connected consoles or PCs, I've never had an issue with ports or chips. Just lucky I guess.
Three Xbox One X over time all failed with HDMI
Nice one! Congratz!
You dont have the chips you replace / CPU listed on your sale shop. Or where did you buy them?
Good job! Keep it up pal
Thanks!
Am I right in saying he just used liquid flux and a heat gun to remove and replace the timer chip? So no actual soldering is required? Just keep the heat on the leftover solder and the flux will hold it in place until the new chip is placed on the board?
Thats exactly what I’m thinking!
Another really easy way to check if it is the Hard drive is boot it up and then use console companion to stream your xbox. It won't stream with a bad hard drive.
Soooo, you’re telling me I just need to buy a fourth Xbox one X? This things are so crappy.
Obvious trolling from a Sony Pony
@RICAN TRUMPER he probably keeps throwing it around and thinks thats normal lmao
@BRUTAL HOOLIGAN187 I don't know what's sadder, your grammar or the fact you have 6 xbox's
I have two Xbox one x’s both have the same problem. I’m just gonna buy a pc.
Sylus Hursh I knew I wasn’t the only one. Still going for the series x, but it is frustrating when they go out so quickly.
It's called flux, it's to clean metal parts so that the solder (the tin looking stuff) can bond to the metal.
Great video 👍
Thanks tronics for sharing the tips and tricks to repair the display issue. My xbox has a similar problem and when i boot it with the power button and eject button it does show up display at the 640x480 resolution and when i try changing to higher resolution, the display is blank. can you advise what could be the problem
I have the exact same problem. Did you ever find a solution?
Hey quick question, the hard drive you used to test it, was that a brand new, blank drive or was it formatted a certain way
What temp on the soldering iron did you use? Thanks
Paper Cut2U Gaming same just got this problem today as well
LILKROOKZ me too I’ve not even had my Xbox for a year
If you kids at home attempt to solder on a board like this watch your heat. If you have a iron you can regulate your temp start low. Stuff modern days is wave soldered which is a lower temp solder and one of the reasons the red ring happened on the 360 that and bad cooling working togther.
How I'm suppose to do that I have no skill at fixing stuff and I have no replacement items
Thats a "you" problem. Sucks to be you.
you just saw a step by step video on how to do it. go slow, and give it a try. your Xbox likely doesn’t work anyway (like mine, currently), so why not try to learn and/or fail? you can do it.
@@pball4lyf good way to look at things +
i love this videos men! Could you explain the function and why that chip do not work?
Display Interface IC 6 Gbps AC Coupled to TMDS/HDMI Redriver 40-WQFN 0 to 85 TDP158 by texas instruments is a redriver for hdmi or display port is a "controller" that detects your screen then it control the outpout resolution means 4k /1080p etc if the chip dies the xbox dont know what type of screen are you conecting
What he said ^^^ What do you even need me for?! Ha, ha
thanks men!
@@Tronicsfix for the awesome videos!
Damn that a lot of screws lol
Console makers LOVE their screws. Wait till you see the Wii U, it's so small yet has about as many screws as this. There's one like Evey inch of the perimeter of the board it's ridiculous lol
longtime viewer and enjoy watching your repair videos. I have a gears of war 5 Xbox one x that is suffering from this issue. is there a way I can send it in for repair? what's the best way to get in touch with you? id like to get it repaired for my son to use. thanks :)
Could i pay you to fix mines I have the same issue, I’ve already had a shop look at it and they can’t fix it.
Same
I have an Xbox One S and I'm hearing beeps and chimes and controller is pairing and LEDs and fan are working but I'm getting no video.
Where do you get the chips like the retimer chip? Do you get them from broken consoles?
Sometimes. If I can buy them from my supplier in China then I do. If not then I get them from spare parts boards.
@@Tronicsfix Thanks for the reply. Would you mind naming the supplier? I understand if you don't want to. I own a LAN center and MANY consoles. It would be nice to be able to fix them fast using your videos. Thanks for all the effort you put in, can't wait to see more.
You can buy them off digikey. 🙄
@@PenceFamilyGaming mouser has them too
My hero, lol, good video, Steve, where did you get the chip, donor board?
From my parts supplier in China
@@Tronicsfix Which chip do you use? Im seeing two available from mouser TDP158RSBT and
TDP158RSBR
NVM same chip just different buying options.
@@Tronicsfix you get Texas instruments chips from China?
Just a quick question, why don't you clean off the old solder and apply some new stuff before you replace the chip?
Because it's no necessary...it just takes longer.
Ok doke was just wondering :)
Hi man, how are you, I follow all your videos and I love them, thanks for sharing your experience. I would like to ask you a question, if there is the possibility that you would share an information or make a video of the components that surround the tdp158 since I bought an xbox one x with the same problem but it is seen that they used a lot of air and flew the resistors and capacitors that surround. the missing components are c17, c18, c20, c50, c43, c44, c45, c56. It would be very helpful if you shared it.
I apologize for my English. I am from Argentina. thank you. I hope you can help me.
what is the name of the liquid you use for taking out the chip
flux
@@kylecutler5317 Thank you.
Damn, this guy is good.
how do i get my hands on one of these timing chips?
What is a fair price to get this repair done. I'm having this same issue but don't think I can do this fix. Microsoft wants almost $300 and another shop near my quoted around $80 and I don't want to get ripped off. Love the channel and going to keep watching now because of this video
This guy charges 100 so looks like ur local shop is better

Wtf
Great video! I am actually trying to diagnose the same issues on my buddies' one X. Quick question, what is the clear solution you put on before and after replacing the "retimer" chip, I didn't see a link, was it flux?
If I buy the part well u fix mine to if not that's Kool what would u charge
Was that flux you were using before taking off the chip? I plan on doing this to my xbox but thats the only part I wasn't sure about is what you were using there.
What kind of flux would you recommend for this application?
I use this flux for everything: amzn.to/2LPlqiF
This video is awesome. I love it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@Tronicsfix how do you know how to fix all that stuff?
Experience. I've fixed thousands of PS4's and Xbox's and I've just learned over time how they work and the most likely causes of failures. Also, lots of experimentation!
@@Tronicsfix that is awesome. I wish I could do that.
Why can't you?
What temperature do you use?
Its a visual cue. No1 holds up a temp probe while soldering.
amazing brains-no more
thanks a lot doctor fix!!!
Well FML!! I have no idea how I’m glue or get that piece if it’s even what I need. But I’m still having this issue for sure! Haaha!!
Mine died too ...did u get yours fixed ?
Well. Hello :). Love your videos :)
Hi! Glad you're enjoying them.
@@Tronicsfix :)
Why is everything of death
Good point
Because Xbox is kill.
I’ve a one X here that beeps on then beeps off. Retimer chip has been changed still no luck. Voltages are all present no short circuits. Thinking a ceramic cap or resistor somwhere.
where can you buy the chip you replaced?
Amazon
Mouser or digikey or Google the correct ic part number for your model
I have this issue, tried 3 HDMI cables and I hear the hdd working so should I get another Xbox as it would be cheaper?
