Love this video. The reason I end up on this channel to be honest I am one of those Fijian who will stop at the bean cart beside the bus stand just to buy 1 bag of sweet crunchy Lakri Mithai - Fiji styles. Love Fiji and miss my home island Fiji Too. Thanks for sharing your video.
Tried it, and thought of keeping the leftovers in a container. It was crunchy, the sweetness was just right, and nothing was left. Cooked with this recipe 4 times now, and still no leftovers lol.
Thank you for the recipe. The texture was amazing. I did not have white sugar so I uses brown sugar. My husband family and friends love it. Will make again but with ginger as that is how its is flavored in Trinidad.
I've saved your video to my email. I will definitely try to make it in the near future. I think I will add cinnamon powder to it after stirring the syrup.
I hope they turn out fabulous for you! I know some people like to sprinkle sey milk powder on them after the sugar syrup is harden so I’m sure cinnamon would work well!
Thank you for sharing your recipe. I'm making this now... your YT channel is so handy... it's 10pm now .. 1 day away from Diwali 😊 .. love from Sydney..
Ahhh the late night Diwali cooking sessions 😂 I do it too! I am so happy that my channel is coming handy this Diwali season! Makes me feel like I am a part of all your Diwali festivities! And it’s truly an honor. So thank you for trusting me! Lots of love! And happy Diwali ♥️♥️♥️
Definitely one of the best and most popular sweets! love your recipe! Is this how most Fijian people make it? I like how you added Kesor/saffron since we typically didnt use that in any cooking. I make mine as per my Trini family and their recipes :)
Thank you Navin! Yes, this is typically how its made in Fiji, but some people do add milk powder to their mix. We've always made it like this going back to my great-grandmother :) I LOVE saffron strands. It lends such a great flavor in sweets. Its expensive, and rightfully so, given how they're grown and harvested, but the flavor is so nice!
Let it cool down but even if it’s a little warm, just make sure you keep stirring the lakdi pieces after you put the syrup. That’ll make sure it dries up nicely and keeps it crispy.
Sis if I don't warm ghee up it is all jamm up n its hard it will be very hard to mix in flour n also wat are the other in grey tat will make lakeree ke mitai more delicious as in spices pls Tnkd n kind rgds Luv Pompeii
When you mix it in with the flour, it will melt on its own. It won’t be hard. You can add some nutmeg, cardamom, and even ginger powder to the mix if you want to spice it up a little.
Measurements and an accurate description of what kind of other spices you used would have been better. Nevertheless, I will try the butter trick. Thanks!

In Suriname we call this mithai sew, the syrup made from sugar is also called paq.
thanks for the recipe....did you measure the temperature of the sugar syrup?
It’s the same as barfi so 235-240 deg Fahrenheit

Yes you can use ghee. Don’t warm it the ghee and it should work just fine. The taste will be similar if not better ❤️

I'm dairy free too. Can I use margarine? Which brand vegan butter did you use?
Earth balance works well in this!
