LFR FAMILY I have to say man, I really like your style - flamboyant, yet not arrogant. Enthusiastic, yet not over-the-top exaggeration. Good stuff, keep it up my dude!
Munk Hammer THANK YOU KINDLY SIR!!! Nice of you to say those things.
LFR FAMILY my pleasure! The tube is filled with reaction vids nowadays, some of them stand out in a good way and some of them stand out in a bad way. Yours most definitely stand out in a good way. Peace!
Bro you need to make dope LFR hats
He goes LARRY LEGEND ON THE DRUMS LIKE BIRD FROM TOP OF THE KEY JACK
With Neil's passing, the throne is now Danny's until further notice.
Yep, and RIP Neil.
I totally agree bro
Agreed, coming in almost a year later on this video. Who do you think will be next after Danny?
@@Endless-River Lars Ulr-- ...Jokes aside, Danny does have something 'all-encompassing'. After him, it'll be tough to crown someone without "picking" them from a certain genre (after all, TooL is its own genre). I highly respect Kawaguchi Senri and Evgeniy Nivokov for different reasons, for example.
Between the two, I would put Senri forth as a suggestion.
Was still Danny's before it happened
This video could have been categorized in "nature/wildlife: as we have just witnessed an octopus in his natural environment.
Jupp. Most of the time, a band that can play polyrhythmic tight is impressive. While this guy is sitting there alone when all 4 limbs are literally moving by their own beat, seemingly recognizing each other and smiling only when they come together at common "1" as pairs, triplets and all four at varying times while the body throws in some swiss triplets etc. And while that shit is already going on, his right arm just goes on and visits India, making an excursion to where rhythm patterns vary in length throughout a cycle.
Complete utter bonkers. Some of us can happily wiggle our toe in four over four while we tap a good old fashioned waltz in 3/4 on our thigh without our nervous system just brakes down and surrender to one beat-solution. What is going on here is clearly octopus evolution in humans. 5 brains and nervous systems for this quadpod is evident.
I would love to see a neuron-scan of his brain as he "think" or tap this song. Because his rhythmic centre is clearly branched out all over the place. It would be cool to see his brain-parts blink in A) quarters, B) 5/4, C) 12/8 (dropping down to 11/8 and up to 13/8) and D, an underlying Indian polymorph (?) rhythm pattern
yep :D
@@glacieractivity He could've played a 5th rhythm, but he'd have to be naked...
If you think Danny Carey isn't impressive.
He's nearly my age and I could throw my back out scratching my own ass ....
Next level alien Drummer
I wonder if you have heard Neil Peart Rush. I strongly recommend he was one of Dany Carney heros. He passed away in January. They called him the professor for good reason
yep he is the best
😂😂😂hahaha comment of all these comments Robbie👏👏
🤣👾👾👾👾👾
Just two weeks ago I pulled my back getting off the shitter
"How about these Hawaiian sweet rolls with buttah? Extra sweet buttah." Damn, I just love that line
Imagine being able to maintain 4 different rhythms in each limb like this man can, JESUS.
DIY The North seriously. Pretty crazy to even think about that let alone do it
I was going to correct your grammar, because you make it sound like 4 rhythms per limb; but that is also correct....
Imagine being able to imagine
They dont call him the octopus for nothing
And still having the nuance to change the pressure in each limb independently while using a different pressure for the others.
Don't forget... Danny is almost 60 years old. He has always played those skins like they owed him money. He is a beast!!!
Whenever you do a tool song, each reaction will be at least 20 minutes or close enough to it. Don't fret though, the tool army will have your back!
yep I just found out the Tool this week. I am from Finland and damn they so good.
we're not a fucking Green Day!
Tool family 💪🏻🤙🏻😎❤
I've been on a rampage of watching people react to tool to show support. As rabid as the tool army is we are the most wholesome.
He's smilin cause he loves his craft. The man is a true professional.
yeah he knows when he is doing something great.
He's smiling because he loves his craft AND he knows the entire band came together just killed a very hard song. He knows when it sounds amazing and when it's just normal. This is an amazing performance of this song.
Hes prolly the best drummer alive. I played for 15 yrs. The level of difficulty this dude plays at with his poly rhythms and weird time signatures is outrageous
One of the coolest things about tool live is that the singer actually stays back in the shadows behind the drummer. He’s the person who walked by with the mohawk. He does that for a couple of reasons, one of which is so that the other three members of the band can really get the credit for playing the music. It’s not all about him, he’s just 1/4 of the band
Maynard started doing that during the 10,000 days tour iirc in 2006. Prior to that he was front and center. I miss being able to see Maynard as he has a stage presence like no other.
I’ve seen them several times but I saw TOOL in San Antonio Texas back in 1998 in their Ænima tour. Maynard was in his boxers and his body was painted half white and half blue with polka dots that illuminated when the black lights hit. In Denver, Colorado during the 10,000 days tour he was wearing an “urban cowboy” outfit with sunglasses and he stayed in the shadows. There’s nothing quite like a TOOL concert.
@ToothGrinder I saw TooL live in Montreal and in New Hampshire. Maynard had painted himself is something that when the black light shined on him, he glowed. It was awesome.
@@toothgrinder2760 and couldn't agree more. There really is nothing like a TooL concert....it's a experience for sure
dont worry about the videos being long if its good we'll watch
Tool Army will watch someone react to an entire album. No worries here.
Tool takes as long as Tool takes and is time well spent.
Its not good though. His commentary is distracting and absolutely void of substance. There is a Austin Burcham on the other hand who analysed the polyrhytmic e-pad mid section part.
Time doesn’t exist when Tool is playing
@@NotSure876 Take it back.
"He's giving all the drums in the back a little love because he doesn't want them to feel left out." LMAO
He’s one of the greatest of all time and maybe the best drummer alive
schjonicus given the recent passing of Peart he’s definitely the best one alive. It was debatable before that.
I can ......agree with that. Lol
He’s as good at drums as any human has ever been at anything ever. An undisputed master of his craft and we’ll never see anything like him again.
i don't think there is such a thing as "the" best.. but if there were a contest he'd be up there together with jojo mayer and gavin harrison.. my personal top three.
Agreed, best drummer alive
Maynard sings in the dark behind his band mates..thats respect
In one interview, joke maybe, he said that he did it just so he could watch Danny drum.
His eyes, the lights bother him now.
they call him the octopus btw haha dude is insane
Yeah , don't worry about time. we Tool fans are use to it
Anyway- time stops when u listen to Tool. Keep listening.
Time stops, indeed.
No truer words have ever been spoken.
@@kirkgarcia4896 This man, spitting facts!
And for their next trick, you need to experience Tool - Invincible. Strap in for one hell of a musical experience.
he seems ready if he can take 11 minutes of tool he might be able to handle 13... don't push him to 7empest too earily though, or his head might explode 😂
the album on acid... THAT is a musical experience.. and emotional
Yes, Tool - Invincible please. Will be no regrets!
7emptest
Thats definitely my favorite Tool song
I get a headache watching him, but in a good way. He's an odd time beast! 5/8, 7/8...16/8!!🤯
Guys like him and Neil Peart make it look so frickin easy when it's so incredibly hard.
Take care ✌
And, the whole band stays on time!!
The timing in the verses is in 33/16 my friend.
@@gSWG3R
Right on. I suck at counting odd times. I just picked up the times from an article my friend showed me.
Thanks again!
Yeah, I've seen a few different people's efforts at transcribing this song, and it always includes a ton of time changes and makes it look like a mess on paper. The time doesn't change for the first time until over a minute in. The guitar intro is 33/16, the mandala pad section is 33/16, the wave drum is 33/16... Then there's a shift there until the lyrics come in, then its right back to 33/16, etc. Then, of course there's that poly section where he's playing triplets while he hi-hats in quarter notes and kick drums with the bass line... just crazy shit lol. The band is really good at masking the timing and making it feel less odd.
Yessss, I’ve watched this video so many times since it came out a couple of weeks ago, I can’t get enough of the octopus. Danny usually wears a jersey to rep the team for the city they are in, except he wore yellow for Kobe when I saw them in Nashville in Jan. Tool fans will watch no matter the length, don’t fret it. Try Aenema or Right in Two
Danny Carey, the 58 yr old real life Animal from the Muppets! The master of polyrhythms.
He plays a rhythm with each limb. Left arm 1 rhythm, right arm another, right leg on the bass another & left on the high hat a 4th (or 2nd bass).
Animal was not from or ever on Sesame Street. He's on The Muppet Show. Kermit was the only one from sesame street on the muppet show.
@@e.jamesshepard7183 LoL edited that. thx. I'm old, got my 80s cartoons mixed
I appreciate the comparison to Animal from the Muppets but “he” was actually based on John Bonham. No disrespect to you or Carey intended.
59 years old and amazing. This song showcases how he can have 4 different beats going, one on each limb. He is my favorite living drummer, now that Neil Peart (Rush) passed. I believe that Neil and Danny were friends and had fond appreciation for each other.
That little sound is an Indian drum called a tabla.
tim purcell
Yep but in that case it’s called a mandala drum
@@triffle69 mandala is just the brand name of the the electronic drum pads that danny uses. and the mandala drum pads are the ones with the cool designs on them. the pad that he had the tabla sound assigned too wasn't one of his mandala pads, its a korg wavedrum.
Electronic drum pads with tabla sounds
@@creepy_assassin6234 Yep it's a Korg waveform.
All those pads with the stars on them are electric synth pads. They have zones as well depending where you hit it will give you different sounds
They're also pressure sensitive so depending on where and how hard Danny hits the pads it can make a different sound.
@@the_impossible_kid ya i noticed that after watching a few times
I didn't know this. It makes something already so impressive seem impossible and yet he can do it with such presicion
Man I have mad respect for every member of that band. Danny on the drums is just incredible. Individually they are all just different from the norm in their own way, and it all comes together somehow even if the time signatures don't lol. Just an amazing band. I was supposed to see them live at a festival and they close the festival down 20 minutes after I got there because of bad weather and then I got stuck in a traffic jam for 4 hours in the field they made us park in, even though I had VIP parking pass... I have never been so let down in my life because that is a once-in-a-lifetime experience in my opinion
🤬
If you ever have the opp. to see them live, DO ALL YOU CAN TO GET YOURSELF THERE. Your jaw will drop to the floor, chills will run toes to top of your head. Album perfect Live. This video here? Just gives you a small taste. So glad you see what Tool Does. so good that we have music to bring us all together. Just listen to music and to each other and hear the music that is inside of us all.
At about the 12:30 mark, Danny Carey ceases to be human 🙌🏻😂
He blew his cover
He never was human... he's not even a drummer... he's four drummers assembled like Voltron.
@@JesterNR1 the three kids in a trench coat reached their final form.
Trust us, you dont have to worry about having long videos for Tool. Tool fans are Patient enough.
Many years of 13 min songs...we aint no green day
"How about these Hawaiian sweet rolls..." Had me dying. 😆 🤣 😂 😹
Tool uses time signatures that make me look like i didn't grow up playing musical instruments and have absolutely no rythym trying to nod along 😳
Idk the time sigs, I just know that if I ask somebody what it is I can say no and be right.
6:40 exactly how i was the first time i watched this!! hahaha
He's 58 and drums like that for 2 hours straight at the gigs, including his own solo. He is a good. I adore him, your reaction was so great to watch, definitely never cut short a Danny video, take all the time you need, we're right here with you 🤘😁
Danny Carey is the 🐐. Masterful performance.
Danny Carey is indeed nasty. Among the nastiest of the nasty. As a former member of a multiple time national championship college drumline, in music school some of us studied Danny Carey's work as far back as 2001. He was, is, and always will be one of THE all-time greatest of the greats. The fact that he hits with the power that he does on top of how intricate everything he plays is just another dimension of perfection.
each limb is playing something special and in it's own time sig or polly.. unreal, even the pattern in which he's hitting the toms/snare in itself is another polly. it's insane.
As a hip-hop head and a metal head I love seeing people opening up their minds and giving new music a chance. We can tell your reaction, that smile on your face, is genuine and that's fucking awesome; That's what music is supposed to do.
Btw, Hawaiian sweet rolls with butter was hysterical. = Subbed.
He is the most technical drummer alive. He can play a different time signature with each hand and foot simultaneously.
Danny helped to create the electronic drum pads and holds several patents on them. Dude's not only the best drummer in the world, he is friggin smart as hell. Welcome to Tool and good luck!
He is truly a god amongst drummers. I feel like you can add him to any band and he fits in. Can’t really replace him for Tool too easily. Whatever city they’re in he will wear the teams jersey that night for the show. He wears a suns jersey every time in phx.
He's got jersey to rep every city they play in. He's 6'5" I believe .
He also had the opportunity to potentially play in the NBA. I think he used to play for Kansas in college ball
@@MegaMatth If his drumming is indicative of his hard work and dedication, then he's gotta be pretty darn good at basketball.
and also 58 years old lol
That's dope!
@@MegaMatth actually he went to UMKC. He is just a KU fan. He grew up here in the little town of Paola KS. Great guy too 👍🏻
He's a Zen master, that's how.
The absolute G.O.A.T.
Awww. You finally step into the world of Tool young grasshoppa. Congratulations. It's quite an experience.
A master at his craft!!! Tool songs are long and incredible!! Danny wears different basketball jerseys all the time. He’s insane as are the rest of the band!! Each one is incredible at what they do!! Enjoy!!!
Yesssss 👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 haven’t watched yet, noti got me too gassed. Let’s gooo 🥁
Great reaction ...For drum rolls give Tool ..ticks and leeches and rosetta stoned a whirl ..amazing songs
He's not ready for Rosetta Stoned!
Yeah Rosetta Stoned is something else.. Might be a better idea to get familiar with the band first. Also, it needs to be heard together with Lost Keys. And you really do need lyrics for that one
Jambi
Yes, Ticks and Leeches plz!
The grudge the grudge the grudge the grudge. Best Tool song (got dammit I can’t even say that, cause they’re all so damn epic and different, yet TOOL) and Danny Carey showcase
Can u imagine Danny is 58!! Great to watch the greatest drummer and the greatest band ever get reacted to by you. 🤘🤘
He gets those sounds by using “triggers” that can be assigned unique sounds for the rim, edge, middle, etc. Feel of acoustic drums, perfect crisp sounds of electronic drums. He is crazy talented, but also dedicated and works SOOO hard. His timing is second to none!
Great reaction. This video got me back into working out. Gotta get shoulders like Danny
was waiting for this reaction!
Oh, man... no doubt about it. The dynamic between the whole band is almost supernatural. Those timings.... wtf alright!
Also, he's going on 59 years old. One of the GOAT's.
Man you have to go down the rabbit hole with TOOL and react to all their music they mind blowing
What a great first experience to pneuma! Peace
9:27 Yes he has the mandala drums (the one with the pentagrams) and and a korg wavedrum to their left. both incredible instruments.
Septagram*
Unicursal Hexagram
As above, so below.
Man your reactions give new joy to these songs for me!!
He is by far one of the greatest ever. Keep watching and keep going down that rabbit hole.
From what I've heard, most Tool songs start with a drum pattern laid out by Danny and the rest build on it, with the vocals being the final touch. Maynard, the vocalist, likes to hang out in the back with him to keep time and generally make it more about the music. You can catch him a couple times in the background here. As for the uniform, I heard Danny wears a different jersey for each town they go to. This one was shot in Boston. He's a huge NBA fan.
They're a really interesting band. Started in '92, take an average span of 7 years between albums (14 for this last one, damn was that a wait) but it's always worth the wait. You should check out more for sure. If you wanna start from earlier stuff and keep it in the live vein, try Tool - Sober "Live Pro Shot -REMASTERED" Crazy vocal performance by Maynard. But really, all of their stuff is worth checking out. For studio stuff, check out "Rosetta Stoned" and "Vicarious".
Project Matt I saw a recent interview with him and he says he finishes all of his tracks for an entire album in less than week usually, well before everyone else.
Unreal.
“Ticks and leeches”, “Jambi”, and “Right in Two” by Tool all have awesome drums too.
Welcome to the world of the greatest drummer alive. Danny has always been a great technical drummer and is constantly improving his technique. A lot of his pads are Mandala sensor controlled pads, you see the control monitor to his left. He also uses rotary toms and some other electronic pads as well. There are videos of him explaining his set up. His kit and ability to man handle it are truly Hawaiian sweet bread with extra sweet butter and honey.
Hawaiian sweet rolls with sweet butter! Beautiful dude!
I love how much you loved this!!
You are a rocker & drummer bro!!
Love your reaction, man. I can tell you're really enjoying it. To answer your question, yes, Danny is using some kind of electronic drum that can be loaded with different sounds. He happens to use a sweet Tabla sound in this one. Using the drum with an Eastern sound gives it more of a world music sound to me. That's awesome because this song is about the oneness of human spirits. Something like that. lol.
Dude I was cryin with the rolls. You’re crazy!
How good is this beast?
4 limbs
4 different time signatures.
All played at the same time.
Ya he's a beast.
Excellent reaction. Your appreciation and attention to detail... subed!
Danny is seriously on of the best of all time
Wow! I see you are very detailed and caught that drumstick flip. Not anyone who reacted to this has caught that. Bravo! My friend. Please do more Tool songs they have alot, and yess when Danny makes love to those drums they kiss himm back 👌
Ok man, new sub. Going to checking glad to see that you are checking out Tool. I love music, all kinds. Not a huge fan of quite a bit of new rap, but always appreciated the great ones for the artistry. Danny Carrey and all of Tool are true artists. The rhythms that Change to different beat patterns back and forth aren’t very easy and he makes it look like a walk in the park. Much love from NC. Looking forward to more videos.
Danny is to drums as Larry Bird was to basketball. Which makes his outfit all the more poignant. The best WITH the best. GOATs together!
LFR FAMILY has open minds that open doors no man can close and close doors no man can open !
I saw and heard what you heard my man!! Thanks for giving props to my fav drummer!! ✌️
"I wanna see drums"
😂😂😂😂
You've come to the right place.
Top 5 Tool song of all-time, and my personal favorite, but not just because of Danny, but because Adam was amazing. His guitar and keyboard in this is untouchable. It's an evolution from Eddie Van Halen. If you listen to this version more than once and listen for the bass, and the lead guitar, you pick up so much more.
'drums got feelings too!....... love that
LFR love you're reactions! You do the artists others won't! In flames or children of Bodom brother!
I love these reaction vids. Sharing something cool is what the internet is all about.
Sweet roll and cornbread comment had me ROLLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Neil Peart, the late drummer of Rush, has a drum solo video that is amazing to watch. He’s really a percussionist disguised as a drummer in a prog rock band.
One of my favorites by Tool
I had to have watched this literally over 30/40 times and each time I watch it my heart still races. Danny Carey is amazing. This will go in history as one of the greatest drum performances of all times. To me this is comparable to Rush, Tom Sawyer.
Crazy to watch old videos of yours and see where you've gotten. Congrats my guy
You are friggin’ hilarious, bro! Thank you!
Cuz drums got feelings too... omg.. that was the best🙃😁😁😁😁 you had me smiling with that man!!😁😁😁
Love watching your videos my friend!!!
Absolute beast!!! Danny Carey is the greatest drummer alive and I dont care who argues it because you're wrong. You must go to a show and let this man rattle the heart out of your chest. Nice reaction Van and welcome to the Tool experience!
Whenever they reschedule their tour, it will be my 4th time seeing them! Fuckin stoked!
@@l.ronhubbard5445 I was fortunate and saw them in Memphis this tour for my 3rd time. Best show I've ever seen! I hope they reschedule soon so you can get that 4th show. ✌
"Drums have feelings too."
Much love!!
“CORNBREAD ROLLS”😂😂😂
This song rips. Everyone in Tool is amazing individually and as a collective just incredible.
LOLZ!! "Rolls??!! You want some rolls??!!" hahaha....gotta love it. nice work bro
Serving up a whole tray of Hawaiian sweet rolls, my man! I was nodding my head and laughing to myself a bit when you said in the beginning how nasty Danny's drumming is. I was just thinking, "Man, wait until the later part of the song when Danny goes off the charts with his drumming mastery!" His drumming on this album is just sublime, savage, and gorgeous!
He makes it look so effortless. I could live 1,000 lives and never get close to Danny's skill level.
Just a masterpiece.
worth every damn second. Master Danny Carey a God.
I see you've jumped in the tool end of the pool. You are going to get hooked, quickly. It's not a bad thing man. Take the journey through their music. You'll get roll's, muffins, biscuits, and a whole dam cake, at the same time when Danny's servers you on drums.
My Man... I'm A Huge Drum Fan As Well! Can't Go Wrong With Danny Carey Bro!
Danny Carey is the best drummer out there. Take care and be safe out there. Love from Finland.
yeah.....man, glad you got into Tool. I know you review a lot of different things. I was wondering and now I know. Thanks man! oh.......and I am ordering that T shirt ;-)
🤯🥂 so bad ass! Loved your reactions to probably the greatest drummer of all time 🔥🔥
Best video reaction of this performance video!!!! 👍👌🤘🤘
Much love Vic.
Congrats, you just got introduced to the best band on planet Earth. Keep reacting to tool and not only will you love the music, but you're channel will explode!
