So I'm a drummer going on 20 years now. I've studied all od the greats! Niel Peart undoubtedly was a revolutionary drummer and deserves the utmost respect for bringing drumming to where it is today!! However, there are many drummers that outclass him in just about every way, musicality, creativity, mastery of theory, execution and speed. Honor the greats, but don't think that new blood can't match up!! Love your content, keep it up!!
In this video specifically you're witnessing one of the greatest drummijg feats of theory mastery and execution. This guy had to basically relearn how to play the drums to be able to play this song.

This song is actually about what it would be like to have an aneurysm! Every member of this band is extremely talented but what makes the drummer so impressive in this song is his stamina and his footwork. To be able to offset poly rhythms with either foot while maintaining a beat on the hands is just not easy even for a pro. Like you said its like he has five brains. Hes a living breathing metronome. A lot of what happens is easy to be overlooked since the "hertas" hes doing with his feet follow through the whole song but they are slightly different segment to segment. I have a few musician friends and I show them this and tell them to count out the time and they sit there scratching their heads lol But since you enjoyed this, check out clockwork drum cam, its a bit more flashy with the hand work.
Also i'll throw in another drummer since you're on a drum train. His name is matt garstka he plays for animals as leaders and is an extremely accomplished drummer. He won multiple drumming competitions in his youth and went to berklee for drumming. Check out his ectogenesis or tooth and claw drum play through.

Meshuggah is a Yiddish word for ‘crazy’. The song itself is about a man having an aneurysm. The double kick technique he’s using isn’t the difficult thing about the song. It’s the ever changing pattern, all while maintaining the back beat with the hi hat. Ambidexterity level cyborg… It’s all about being RELAXED, and years of muscle memory. This actually requires your entire lower extremity. When I’ve played this song, I put down a banana and a power gel, during the bridge, to a avoid cramping.

Haake is one of my favorite drummers, but I’ve just recently came across Mgla and their drummer Darkside, check him out in their song Exercises in Futility.
But being 55 and a RUSH fan since the late 70’s Mr Peart is tops

The drums and the rhythm guitar are playing 32nds in unison for over 7 minutes! Unheard of! What he’s doing with his feet most can’t maintain for one minute! This is pure Math Rock brother. Poly rhythms and poly meters are amazing!! Now.. there is one better than Neil.. sorry.. react to Cuntcrusher drum cam by Infant Annihilator.. GOD LEVEL SKILLS.. I promise. Mad love from an O.G in Oklahoma! Gang gang

I like you man! I love seeing people appreciate metal. Not many give it a chance esspecially black people. Gotta be honest. This is why I can't get into rap. The rhythm is boring and I don't care for the message. But when you get into music solely for the craftsmanship of music, rather than just how dope something sounds, you realize nothing else does what metal does. Thank you for taking the time to hear our world!!

Since it’s two different drummers on those two songs. Apparently Anton (The one drumming on Crowned & Conquered) would be noticeable off when they played live that Alex ended up getting angry and kicking him from the band. It’s on his Instagram page when he announced the new drummer.
