For specifically volume control = Zildjian L80. For lovely sound but not very quiet = Agean "R".
wow, Arborea actually sounded like real cymbals, just lower volume, best option for live jazz performance, thanks for the comparison!
Great vid. Would like to hear the ageans with regular louder cymbals to get an idea of how quiet they are.
This is definitely the best LV cymbals comparison video on UA-cam at this moment, greatly appreciated.
For lowest volume I am going with L80s because IMO and in the opinion of some others, it wins hands down.
Thank you for your kind feedback! :)
@@drumtecTV Hey, drumtec do you know of any companies that make any 22" and 24" low volume cymbals? I've been searching and searching I can't seem to find any. The reason I want the bigger cymbals is first, they're heavier and feel closer to regular cymbals. And second, if you listen the 20" cymbals, they sound like 16" regular cymbals. I believe this is because of their higher speed of sound with the steel cymbals. So I currently play with Obera 16" crshes for hits, 18" and 20" for crashes, and a silver Zildjian 20" for my ride.
Great comparison!
Thanks Justin!
Hey Justin you've got great stuff too
Arborea mute B8 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏
I really like the range of the Agean cymbals. I have the Gen 16 7 piece kit without the splash, and i like how i can adjust the different tones in the DSP. Another thing I did (which i could do in all the perforated cymbals) was added sizzler rivets to them. Definitely an added bonus, especially for jazz music in a small setting.
Thanks again for this video... It helps a lot ! Already got the L80 which I'll keep for most silent practice, but the agean definitely seems awesome... More wash / decay and less proeminent ping. This open new perspective for drumming practice, I would love to play those ageans with an acoustic kit + silent pads like aquarians super pads... I still hope for a "low/mid volume" solution which sounds pretty good without triggers, then, by adding/blending a bit of triggered sound, it could be perfect.
It seems that the companies are getting away from the low volume concept by focusing too much on sound quality...The Zildjians are definitely the quietest
For me, the L80's serve the purpose of being quiet, yet still sounding like cymbals. The Ageans sounded great, but I'm thinking cocktail kit or open mic night rather than practice time, you know? Anyway, thanks for this. It was super informative!
Well I got some of the Sabians and used them for a cocktail kit a couple of times. They're TOO quite and sound the same no matter where you hit them (except the bell). I put strips of masking tape under them, which plugs some of the holes and makes them louder, but they're still not QUITE loud enough. I'm thinking of getting some Ageans instead. The Zildjian LVs are just horrible all around IMO, and this is from a guy that's been playing regular Zildjians for 25 years.
Thank you sir, great work.
Agean!!!
Those Agean sound so good.
Totally agree but they shouldn't label them as low volume. They are still considerably loud and I dont think they would be any more suitable for practice than any standard cymbal. Maybe they should label them as frequency reduce instead.
The naturals are quieter IMO. Get the hats and ride . Then get the agean R for bling. They would sound great with an Ekit
@@johnburkhalter3880 If something has lower volume compared to any regular ones then no reason not to call it as low volume. Maybe you need to check x-tra silent flat R range which have the lowest volume within the R line.
such a great video. thank you
Terrific drummer! I think the Agean Natural sounded by far the best, and then Agean "R". They may have a higher sound level, but they sound much more like real cymbals.
Thank you very much! You can find more drumming/music & sound demos over on my personal channel too if you like:

Amazing playing!

I think I bought the last action-set of Arborea mute cymbals from the Dutch distributor. A set comprising of a hihat, 16”, 18” and 20” for €139,- euros.
So price wise I had a pretty good deal.
They might be not the best sounding, but I like how the play. Especially the hihat.
The 18” played hard sounds pretty good for a LV crash. It sounds way better than the 16”. So I just ordered another 18” on the Drum-tec website to complete my set. So far, I’m pretty happy with them.
But with this comparison a like the Zildjian L80 for best LV cymbals. But the Ageans really sound the best. Pretty useful for a small session with a real kit.
Agean R.
I'll be ordering the arborea bronze ones tomorrow along with some real feel mesh heads.
Hey Stephen, great to hear! Have fun drumming & kind regards!
@@drumtecTV ordered. I'll give feedback after Christmas but I'm sure they'll be superb....
Agean ❤️❤️🤘
Agean 😍
The sound of the sticks hitting the cymbals is louder on the final pair of Zildjian.
Hi, just to double check, is the loudness Agean > Sabian > Arborea > Zildjian?
@drumtecTV: Im curious: Do you know, what kind of material/alloy the Gen16s are made of? Agean is a B20 alloy, Arborea is available in B8 version - is anything known about the Gen16s? Thanks
steel...
gen 16s are mabde of b8
Great video! Thank you! What are you using to mute the rest of the drums?
Thank you Adam, the kit is a drum-tec electronic drum kit with silent mesh heads :) you can find more info here:
www.drum-tec.com/edrums
Kind regards!
Agean Natural its simple Awesome!
Thanks for this . I love the Aegean models . Can these be used electronically ?
No, the Ageans are acoustic low noise cymbals, that need to be miced up with a pair of overhead mics. Kind regards!
As part of a hybrid kit. I use these with an EAD10 module, which records the cymbals, so no need for overhead mics. The EAD10 has many applications for acoustic kits as well.
Any mic can be used as a trigger. Setting the gate in the drum machine, like the Pearl Mimic Pro and adjusting all the settings will give you the best of both worlds. No sticking noise with the Aegean Naturals and you can trigger any sounds you want.
I can't tell if the arboreal b8's are louder or just filler and sound more natural????
Have you tried Centent Whisper RVCs...
Is it possible you can give a dB comparison?
Are agean low noise cymbals compatible with rtoms black in terms of volume?
Does it sounds good for an acoustic concert? With an acoustic guitar?
Hi, can´t comment on the rtoms sadly. The Agean low noise cymbals much sound just like in the demo video, that´s why we tried to deliver a neutral sound demo :) in terms of volume, they are way more silent than any "regular" cymbal, but do have an authentic cymbal sound nonetheless. You can mic them up with a pair of overheads (as we did in the video) without any problems. Kind regards!
L80s. And again R looks.was gret
*great

wasn't expecting arborea to sound better than the l80s but they do sound better. Are the agean too loud compared to the other brands?
Hi Camilo, the Ageans are a little louder than the others possibly, but still a LOT more silent than any regular acoustic cymbals. Kind regards!
How do the Agean R series compare to the Zildjian Gen16 in terms of volume?
Hi Erykah, they might be just a tad louder (especially the bigger sizes), but do sound significantly more natural like a "real" cymbal in my opinion. Kind regards!
@@drumtecTV Thank you for the response! It's the first I hear of them and they sound amazing :)
Hello. I a am french metal drummer. I play in a very small room with my band. I have a roland td-6 module with real drum and mesh head like you. i would buy the agean cymbals or arborea. My guitarist make some noise...
do you think this type of cymbals woould be suitable for me?
Sorry for my bad translate.. 😂
Definitely the agean cymbals even though they are more expensive. They sound much better. :)
Thank you for making the decision easy. Agean kills it.
Avesome advert video for Agean “R”😂!
Yeah, I mean the sound just speaks for itself :) Kind regards!
Can we use mush heads on an acoustic kit for a lower sound?
Sure you can use mesh heads on any acoustic kit, you might want to check out & compare the different drum-tec mesh head models over here, as all of them will sound different & have different rebound/feel depending on their material/thickness:

So... the drum-tec website is blocked by safari, and listed as potential rip-off site with expired certificate.
And as far as I can tell, there is no such thing as Agean Natural Jazz cymbals available ANYWHERE! Even the Agean home page doesn't list them. Only the "R" cymbals. Did they quit making them? Can anybody tell where the heck to actually buy the suckers? They sound great in this demo. Wish I could find some. I'm in the USA.
Hi Phoenix, no problems here neither with Firefox nor Safari actually, maybe you need to update your browser/OSX? You'll find all info on the different Agean low noise cymbals here:

Hi man! What cymbal set you like the most? Thanks :-)
I just brought 5 Arborea cymbals, I'll update the results (read reply).🤘
UPDATE :
First off, they don't have all pieces you saw on video.
DrumTec sent me an email about extra shipping charges, I ended paying €105 ($124) only for shipping of a set of: 14"hihat, 18"crash and 20"ride. Also, a 16" crash and 16"china. The order of all 5 pieces was: €248.74 ($295.69)....for a total of $419 w/shipping.
Long story short, I cancel the order.
*Brought a set on Amazon and the 18"crach hole is too narrow that doesn't pass the plastic sleeve (made a video and pictures in the review section), asked for a replacement and came the same way and also the ride. I returned the initial order and replacement today.
Would these zildjian l80’s be to loud to use in an apartment?
Probably yes, but it depends on your individual appartment situation. Over here you can hear the low noise cymbals in comparison with electronic cymbal pads:

@@drumtecTV thanks for the kind reply. i guess rubber cymbals would be the most fitting to the current situation rn.
How sturdy are the Zildjian Lv80? Can you pound on them good without them bending or breaking?
yes, very durable.

@@sasikumargark399 :-D
Is there a difference in volume betwixt the Arbora mute and Arbora B8? I seen the price difference on your website and I'm assuming the difference is due to materials used. Just curious if you noticed a difference in volume while playing them. I have the Agean R and they are just a tad loud for the apt life but do sound like a real cymbal. Just curious of really any difference you can think of between those 2 makes of that brand. Thank you.
Solid playing too btw. Your video was what made me purchase the Ageans in the first place. Thanks for the great comparisons, really helps with the online purchasing of things.
Hi & thanks for your kind feedback! :) As far as I can remember, there was no real volume difference between the two arborea series. But there is a considerable difference in sound though. The B8 have more high frequencies, which makes them sound a little more like Zildjian Gen16, while the "regular" Arborea Mute sound a little more like the Sabian Quiet Tones (in my opinion). If you really want to cut down on volume for practicing, the most silent solution would be the Zildjian L80. Kind regards!
Quiet tone ride was my favourite
Ahead crashes was good
Quality is everything..do you want the eggo waffles or the Walmart waffles...volume wise it’s all about the l80s or sabian...some of those shit brands don’t really mute at all it seems
The Ageans definitely sound the best, but they have way fewer holes than the other brands... are they significantly louder?
Hey Steve, the Ageans are a little louder than the others indeed, but the difference is not as significant. Actually I couldn't imagine a situation, where the Ageans would be too loud while other metal low noise cymbals wouldn't, it's all wood stick on metal in the end :) only the L80 which have a special surface coating are significantly more silent, but also lack a "real cymbal sound".

@@drumtecTV Thanks! I will indeed check it out!!
The Agean cymbals seem a lot louder than the other cymbals
Hey Lars, yes the Ageans are a little louder than the other brands but have a very open & natural sound. They still are considerably more silent, than "regular" cymbals though. Kind regards!
Yes but also Ageans offering great tones. Others are far from what Agean offers as musicality. One thing to remind: Agean’s both R and natural jazz cymbals are the only ones made of out B.20, hand hammered and lathed. Other ones are press made cymbals according to what I have obtained from my searches.
@@drumtecTV how much louder are they? L80s are supposed to be 80% quieter... Gen16s are a bit louder than that... Is it possible you can give a dB comparison?
I need quiet....!!!!!! My neighbors called the cops on me...1.Zildjan.....2.Sabian....3.Arborea.....Agean...(quiet to loudest) drums were sweetly silent....I was forced to go to a quieter instrument.....wish these were around back in the day day.
I can't stop listening to the Arborea Mute blow them all away for ALL NEEDED FEATURES! Low Volume! Amazing Tone, Swell, Bell and Sustain! Striking Looks! Extremely Well Balanced Sounding! One could easily do a small room venue with these on an E-Kit either Acoustically or Triggered with a Piezo Trigger, etc... At any rate, the others ALL have their qualities BUT the aforementioned imho ARE THE WINNER HANDS DOWN and DEFINTELY BEAT THE SABIANS with WAY BETTER NICKEL CONTENT in their Alloys! Arborea is a Hand Made Cymbal in a VERY GOOD FACTORY, not that the others aren't. However they use the same techniques as the Cymbal Makers in Turkey! These are the OLDEST METHODS, as well, they produce such Boutique Quality Low Volume Cymbals such as these, which should cost THREE TIMES what they do, just as Sabians should cost TWICE AS MUCH and Agean, in a class of their own, while LOWER VOLUME, missed the mark ONLY for that fact alone! Not quite LOW VOLUME imho but still amazing! LIKE LOUDER ARBOREAS if you listen very carefully! Otherwise, I can afford to buy whatever I want to and I am an AUDIOPHILE! Therefore, my opinion is very valuable to me and possibly to someone else that this might help! If anyone needs help making their own Custom Electronic Cymbals from Low Volume Cymbals, I have some excellent tips and advice that should save you lots of hassles! They sound AMAZING! Thank you Drum-Tec so much! What a GREAT EXPERIENCE discovering them!! Wonderful people actually to deal with!! I loved the Arborea Bronze as well but the Nickel Mutes are more for me! These Cymbals ARE ALL MADE for E-Drumming and THEY SOUND LIKE IT IN EVERY WAY, each with something all their own and ALL, while merging the Gap for Hybrid Kit Players who want to BLEND their tone with Accurate Cymbal Types while using Triggers!! My DREAM KIT IS BEING BUILT AS WE SPEAK, AND ALL THANKS TO DRUM-TEC!! AWESOME!!
Arborea cymbals are handmade and others not? Mistake here :) Agean cymbals are both hand hammered and they even perforate each hole one by one by hand drilling not press made system like Arborea and others :) while supporting a claim, you should be accurately right and sure of it. Agean cymbals are the only ones in this video that are both handcrafted and hand drilled ones . Cheers!
Zil gen!
Shame you didn't have the L80 splash and china, but I think the clear winner for the quietest is the Zildjian L80's.
but they sound terrible no matter how low volume they are. Okay, they have less decay, due to the finish, but if you can improve an instrument by muting it, it is not so good at first place. I'd be most annoyed by a bad sound, not by volume. As matter of fact, the better you sound, the louder you can be without pissing off other people. Like, playing edrums on rubber pads will drive all others crazy because there is no tone to the noise, just plock plock plock, no matter how low volume, this is driving people mad. And on stages, sure you want more control on the sound, but always better to start with a good sound, which you have to tweak less...
I would pick Zildjian or Arboera.
what's wrong with your ears?
IMO the zildjian gen16 sound terrible, especially considering the price. The arborea b8 have an annoying hiss overtone that seems like it could fatigue the ears. Maybe I'm alone but overall I like the sabian for practice. Agean is definitely the best sounding.
🎼 agean Natural jazz ..ride20"& charleston13".. invece per quanto riguarda crash14" china16" splash12"&10" agean classico 🎼
Why don't you guys get normal cymbals instead of quiet ones?
Normally my motto is "there are no stupid questions -- only stupid answers." But for you, I will make an exception
Ageans sound the best but are hardly quiet... I also advise you to check the price tag... Jesus
