    Agean low noise cymbals are a great sounding choice for any low volume or hybrid e/a drum kit setup. For this demo, we've set up the Agean R series and the more recent Flat R series "side by side" for a quick sound comparison demo.
    The Flat R series cymbals have no cup as their name indicates, soundwise they have a little less "body", less overtones and a shorter sustain than the regular R series, which makes them even more silent in practice. They are handmade in Turkey from B20 Bronze just like the R series.
    The cymbals were mic'ed up with a pair of studio standard overhead microphones & recorded with a Roland audio interface into Logic Pro Audio without any further mixing/editing.
    You can find all Agean R & Flat R cymbal models, as well as the drum-tec Jam electronic drums and ATV xD3 sound module from the demo setup here in our online shop:

    It'd be super sweet to see more videos of these with other modules, maybe with different mic configurations etc. I'm hooked on this video 😂

    Great ! thanks ! Indeed flats are less aggressive than the classic R, it makes them a good option volume wise between classic R and L80

    Is there really that much of a difference in volume between the R and Flat-R cymbals? I don't hear a drastic difference in the video... maybe only slightly?
    I absolutely love the sound of R's. My biggest concern is ear fatigue... I currently practice with the L80s and Arborea B8 Mutes, and I can easily play those cymbals without having to use hearing protection. Would that be reasonable with the Agean R cymbals? Or are they loud enough that playing them for an hour or so could cause ear fatigue?

    Hello Drumtec, appreciate yours for comparison and the coolest drummer I have ever seen.
    I want to buy partly agean R and agean flat R cymbals, question: Can I mix them together or do you recommend only one series for home usage and recordings as well?
    And as for overhead mics, will it be in proper way to use oktava MK-012-01 pair of stereo mics I mean...

    • @drumtecTV
      @drumtecTV  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Tony, thank you very much! There's no problem mixing regular & flat R series, the flat R series are great for a little more "trashy" crash sounds for example. And the Oktavas should deliver a very good overhead sound, they have a great price/quality ratio :) kind regards!

    Great video, really helped me with making my purchase decisions - on their web sight it says the flat series is extra quiet, is it a noticeable difference between ? Always great videos - thanks from Australia

    • @drumtecTV

      Thank you Brett! The flat R series may be considered a little more silent, as they have less "body/tone" and decay to them than the regular R series. Kind regards!

      @@drumtecTV thank you so much again for your tips and advice, I have another unusual one - thanks to your videos I got a full set of Ageans and am loving them, but mic’ing them I am having a lot of bleed from the mesh drums, how do you adjust the bleed into your overheads? Also, would you recommend mic’ing under the cymbal to compensate? Again thanks from Australia

    How do you record these cymbals with the OH mics, and filter the ambient sound from the silent drums from? Please make a tutorial ;)

    • @drumtecTV
      @drumtecTV  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Jacob, no need to filter out anything, the drum-tec pads are very silent, so the minute you bring in the module sound in the mix, you won't hear the mesh impact anymore. Kind regards!

    I like R better than Flat R in my opinion based on what I watch. But could you advise if I go for R and then my neighbours will still make a fuss about it or the noise difference is not noticable to neighbours at all. Flat R or R noise DB difference won't be the issue?

    • @drumtecTV
      @drumtecTV  3 роки тому +2

      Flat R are a tiny little bit more silent & have less body/sustain, but depends on your neighbours in the end ;-D you can check out this noise level comparison if you like, I think you get quite a nice impression of the different models & noise levels here:

      Hey Jadon, yes absolutely, they make some nice "trash crash" sounds at low volumes :) kind regards!

    • @MrAngryTwinkie
      @MrAngryTwinkie 3 роки тому +3

      I use an 18 flat as a trash crash. It's definitely drier and darker than the 18 natural R -- it comes in around 4 dB lower with the same effort. I use it as a substitute for a China. I also have the 18 R Natural China at it has much more overall frequency width than the 18 flat.

      Hey Bradley, you can hear in the video how these cymbals sound mic'ed up with a pair of overheads :) Low noise cymbals in general are a lot more silent & less "full bodied" than regular cymbals.
