    Easily one of the best episodes. Love the guests, love the vehicles, and Jay didn't interrupt like he often does. Seriously, those vehicles are so sweet!

    So it's ridiculously priced, ridiculously low gas millage, all steel body, and yet not bulletproof.

    • @Adierit
      @Adierit 7 років тому +8

      Nothing is bullet proof but with an all steel body even without the additional armor package they offer with it, it'd still have a chance of bouncing some low caliber rounds.

    • @johntechwriter
      @johntechwriter 7 років тому +8

      Actually a few rich people really get cars. But they are a tiny minority. Most trust fund assholes just want the latest fad to impress their friends when they pull up at the golf club. The result is mobile caricatures like the wanna-be armored vehicles in this episode. The big one must be almost undriveable. No doubt the owner will relegate it to the back row of his fleet before it's got more than a thousand miles on the clock.

    I like how they didn't really go into details about it being bulletproof. It's only suppose to be for "looks" and "comfort". Count me out. If that thing doesn't stop bullets at $249,995 , I'd put my money elsewhere.

      The windows are stock Ford. They're not bullet proof. The headlights and mirrors are Ford. It's a rebodied F550.

    20:53 The fault was not Hummer's. It was GM HQ's. In the current operational structure at GM, the brands are NOT ever truly at fault. They don't get to make all their own decisions. In fact, surprisingly few. This is why GM has ONE guy who calls all the product shots, and other all the design shots FOR THE ENTIRE COMPANY, and the list goes on. This is not a General delegating to lower officers the work of to be done. "I don't care how you get it done, just get it done on time, on target, and in full possible effect." THAT would be far more effective. As it is, it is literally one guy who is the direct boss of each division for major parts of the process.
    As a result, Hummer, like Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Saturn, were not able to call their own shots according to what they were tasked with doing. Further GM HQ did not like the divisions competing with each other. Chevy with Pontiac, Buick with Oldsmobile. This put artificial limits on what each brand could do according to what their division mission was.
    The USAF may not like that the USN has planes, but they do. Differing planes for the most part but they have planes. If every division had, for example, a Corvette of their own, Pontiac and Oldsmobile wanted theirs, back in the day, they would be similar but different, if Pontiac wanted to go whole hog with the Fiero, why should GM HQ stop them? Isn't the goal to make money? If the divisions are competing with each other making better cars, making them better to compete against each other, the only limiting factor being their using the same platforms, then would GM HQ win in the end? Yes and they did not want to.
    Because Hummer was not able to call their own shots, they could not respond quickly enough and adequately to China's interest. Plus they were about to go straight after JEEP's Wrangler with H4 (Basically that smaller vehicle featured in Jay's Garage this week, just with a different grill.). The H3 was making huge in roads, and all GM HQ had to do was let Hummer hold the course and set sites on China.
    But GM HQ got scared, due to their 2008/9 Bankruptcy, and axed Pontiac, Saturn, and Hummer, pretty much out of hand, instead maybe putting them on hiatus.
    It was never Hummer's fault because they had no real say on the matter.
    They need to go back to Alfred P Sloan's structure for the company, and let the divisions compete more directly and frequently across more criteria, with each other, than they do now. Stop acting like a big company that forgot it was a big company.
    Also they should really STOP letting the SAME team do performance work on the Cadillac V-series cars, the Corvette and the Camaro. This one team figures out how to a thing in one car, they do it again but better in the another car and better again in the third car. And they don't go back and update those previous cars quickly or at all. At the very least, Cadillac should have their own performance team, so they are not beholden to the limits of one set of hands, eyes, and brains, providing basically the same style of performance. It may be easier to do the same thing over again but better. But it is better for that luxury division to do things in a way more in line with market expectations.
    *Long is long. But I said what I'm going to say.

    So they take a balanced stock SUV and make it four to five times heavier, making the power to weight ratio and therefore the acceleration, maneuverability and fuel efficiency a quarter of what it was, all this for aesthetics ? Won't stop small arms fire, or even weak explosives, but will make the car a dangerously underpowered and overweight dog which will wear down much faster... Oh, and three times as expensive. No wonder only the Chinese are sufficiently culturally immature about cars to buy such a thing. It's basically the Beats by Dre of it's category, the very worst performing for the money, basically anything else is superior, I mean for the love of god you can get a beautiful G55 made small arms fire proof for that kind of money.
    It's like the "Hummer" H2, it has nothing of the actual performance, reliability and capabilities of the H1 to the point that it would be a much better vehicle if you replaced all the added steel by plastic or carbon fiber. No wonder the Chinese are buying the H2 and this dumpster on wheels, for they are the only people sufficiently uncultivated and ignorant about cars not to be ashamed of driving this. Never watched a fast movie and never will for the same reason I think this thing is pathetic. But loved to see Jay looking full of life again despite all that.

    A $249k kit car, lol. You can buy a legit ex military Unimpg for one third the cost and still have enough left over to buy an armored vehicle. The guy cam clean though...this is a for Asians who want something that looks super American and now that it's in one of the populat movies in China...they will sell as many as they can make.

      It's the same sort of thing when you see an old man driving a Corvette, a fat guy driving a Ford Tempo, even Asians gravitating to German cars, it's wanting to be what you are not, to escape what you really are, in the case of Hummer, it's small size. You don't believe me? You can easily find videos on UA-cam of men recording girls who are admiring their........trucks.......and how they're so big they can't even get in them......it's an interesting psychological observation. Like body builders teen pics are always skinny little guys, and ugly women's hatred of beautiful women in video games, why be jealous of women who aren't real? it's all psychological manifestations of self perceived inadequacy presenting themselves in silly ways if you look at it objectively.
      In other words, don't worry about it ugly girl, your dream man can't cheat on you with a video game character, you're problem is bigger then that, YOU'RE UGLY. Don't worry about it little man, your dream girl can't be satisfied with a big truck, you're problem is.....smaller then that. It's futile, but they still try it, it shows just how desperate these people are.

    off topic but what he was saying about the N.w.a. movie crossing over into main stream is true--rich kids in Scottsdale Arizona were all into N.W.A. when the movie came out. I never thought that would happen or an old rap group like n.w.a could be brought back to life.

    Such an odd car. Heavy as hell, but not bulletproof. Why not use much lighter materials if what they go for is a cool look, and not actual protection? Very odd.
