Thank you Jay Leno's Garage and your fantastic crew for allowing us to shoot a video on one of the greatest SUVS's made, the "LM002." We cannot thank you enough from Franco's European Sports Cars!!! We want to wish many more years of success on your UA-cam channel, and CNBC show.
one of many things i appreciate about Jay Lenos garage is that they really try to capture the true noise of each car jay drives, its never just exhaust note. it always sounds as if you hear every part of the engine's operation.
There's two things you can count on in every video featuring an Italian V12...1) Jay mentioning something about an Italian opera, and 2) Jay driving with the blinker on. Love it!
When my uncle visited New York in 1993 he saw one of these parked and he took a picture of it that he gave to me, still have it and its's still an awesome car
Was it in Brooklyn cause iron mike tyson was the only person in nyc to own 2 of them in nyc area ... n the urban legend is he gave one away to some1 in his hood "do or die bedsty!
I did run my Blazer (back in the day) on german Autobahn and it did about 100mph . I felt like champ, when a LM002 passed me (about 130mph?). It felt like i was standing and the air shook my car and some sand landed on my windscreen. i think he had sand for the kids in back of the Lambo. I will never forget ...
"I believe it was called the Cheetah, something of that nature.." you're not fooling us, Jay. We know you have an encyclopedic knowledge of every car ever.
First vehicle I ever helped detail. At twelve years old I made $75 for waxing the driver side doors and got a ride home in it. That is one memory I know will last the rest of my life. Thank you to the guys at Pennsylvania Motorsports for making that happen.
@@fishkings423 believe it or not, the mclaren f1 had three luggage compartments for a total of 8 cubic feet of space. not that bad (if you're crazy enough to drive a $20 million+ car on public roadways)

This car gets better everytime i look at it. And thanks to Jay Leno I finally get good moving images of it. A very cool fact about this car is that the body and parts of the interior where manufactured by Irizar in Spain, lamborghni sent them the drawings and they had to design the machinery and manufacturing for it. My father was an auto journalist and got invited to see the factory. There where alo stories and pictures of a man in a very very small village in Granada, Spain who had a large farming company and owned a purple Countach and a purple LM002. Think about the image for a second, a modest village with tractors and seat 600 and then these two spaceships.
That thing is pretty crazy. I'd drive one for sure. I wish you showed us underneath it because of that four wheel drive system. Great video as always, Jay!
Bring it back, i guarantee you it would be a hit! Probably mostly in the hills of Hollywood, but nevertheless a hit... Put some luxury features in it, modernize it, face-lift it a bit, and give the G-Wagon a run for it's money!
Indeed, the new SUV is wimpy compared to the real deal from the video, and basically the same thing as Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche and Bentley -- along with Lamborghini, these all are the same thing: Volkswagen.

Tina Turner had an LM002 but changed the engine and auto gearbox to that from a Mercedes E500 to make it more reliable and easier to drive. Cost her double what it would have otherwise cost.
On the test drive I felt like I was watching a movie with a terrible sound editor, because the sound of that engine doesn't make sense with what I'm seeing on screen. Great video - thanks for featuring this icon.
There was one of these at the Salon de 4x4 in Val D'Isere in 1987. I was working in a bar across the main strip and got to - got a short ride in it. It was destined for Saudi and had a mount on the floor for a large caliber weapon, or so I was told! Seemed enormous compared to everything else on display. Made a major impression on me... Great to see one again!
25 years ago I saw a black LM002 with German reg plates in Armação de Pera (Portugal) with grey leather seating and 4x additional grey leather seats on the back (as mentioned on the video). That was the ultimate Batman beach toy!
It's weird how the soundtrack doesn't seem to belong to the video... I mean, it's totally unexpected to hear a V12 scream in a military VUS. Cool car, and great video!!
I always wanted one of these! I live in Dubai and so far I've only seen one of them, so this is a rare car in Dubai. Fuel consumption is not an issue here. I had a Hummer and I also had an ex-factory owned race tuned BMW X5 that on occasions did 8mpg. Gotta love that.
I love the encouraging howl of a Lamborghini as you rev it followed by the disappointed sigh when you come off the throttle YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS - hmph
Just cruising down La Tuna Canyon in your Lamborghini SUV. I drove that road almost everyday for 12 years and I've never used that on-ramp, only the off-ramp and on-ramp going the other way.
I remember reading an interview in Sports Car Illustrated in the 90's with a car collector who was talking about the reactions he got on the road with some of his cars. Roll Royce and Ferrari got the most negative reactions, but EVERYBODY loved the LM002.
I was a security advisor in Riyadh, SA. That truck was popular in the Middle East. The royals would put 4 guys in the back for protection and the truck was fast for a getaway on the road or dirt. The ones we had were protected by bullet proof windows. They all had air conditioning problems.
In the 70s some "Jeep-type Lamnorghini" were made and r-old to Lybia and South-Arabia. The vehicles looked huge, impressive. I recently found a French Car-Magazine from the 70s featuring a long, well documented article about that interesting vehicle.
Yep, the first I've ever seen and heard on this car...I knew Lamborghini makes Tractors, but that they also at one time made the mother of all SUVs was news to me 🤘
The fuel mileage is not so bad. My wife and I had an 88 Town Car that got about 12 mpg. Could only go about 200 miles or so on $90 worth of gas. Gas was over 4 dollars then though. Awesome review Jay as usual!! One of my dream cars as a kid.
I have to admit, this was my favorite car in a video game from 1990 (Stunts), but I liked the wood trim interior, if only the car could sound like this trough the PC speaker!
With the aero dynamics and the rolling resistance of those oil drum wide tires, I bet it would feel almost like applying the breaks just shifting it into neutral and "coasting".
I saw one of these slogging through Greenwich Village once back in 90-91. The dude must have been struggling with the clutch in first gear, because the sound this fucking thing made was just unfathomable. I read recently that it has basically the same V-12 as the Miura or Countach, so now it makes more sense to me.. imagine an African lion slowly being lowered into a vat of hot frying oil. That's what it sounded like. I was reading about it somewhere not long ago, and the author described it as "the most unholy vehicle ever made". From what I witnessed that night, I wholeheartedly agree.
That has to be the REDDEST car I have ever seen!! It's not just red, it's RED! with added RED! Over a RED basecoat, with RED laquer! Love it. Always have, always will. There's a full estate/station wagon version as well, that would be a dream car.
