sho_1uv, actually Hurley is not wrong. the 1600's were still ripe with slavery in every known country across the globe, it was even used in Africa itself by several rival tribes (even till this day by the militias there). the only countries that were somewhat against slavery, but big on indentured servant-ism were Ireland, Japan, French-ruled districts of what is now known as Canada, Norway, Sweden, and Germany. virtually every other country either used slaves, or was used as a marketing hub for them, grounds for capturing/ kidnapping people for the slave trade, or were conquered in some petty war or conquest and had its populations captured and sold as slaves. like it or not, human trafficking was big during that time-period, and though it's diminished greatly, its still practiced by several underground groups these days within the criminal element.

And a smoke-damaged furniture, you can drive it away today
Act now, act now, and receive as our gift, our gift to you
They come in all colors, one size fits all
No muss, no fuss, no spills, you're tired of kitchen drudgery
Everything must go, going out of business, going out of business
      Going out of business sale
Fifty percent off original retail price, skip the middle man
      Don't settle for less
How do we do it? how do we do it? volume, volume, turn up the volume
Now you've heard it advertised, don't hesitate
Don't be caught with your drawers down,

George left us over 14 years ago. As of today there isn’t anyone close to his observations. All comics have a space in their careers where things come together. George had his low points as well. But when he got it right no comedian has been close. The majority of George’s work didn’t insult us. He did do some pathetic fart jokes. It also seems some comedians have two acts to choose from. People seem to laugh more and easier when you have alcohol in you. This is the reason that many shows enforce a two drink minimum. COME BACK TO THE STAGE GEORGE, WE NEED YOU NOW MORE THEN EVER!

I was raised on the comic genius of George Carlin and in turn, raised my Daughter with the same comic influence and taught her of the legend of "Uncle George". Got to meet the Man twice at shows in San Diego at "Humphreys By The Bay". Super cool dude. I watched as others stepped up to greet him and of course, they all had to say some humorous line that George wrote. I realized how ridiculous it was to do such a thing so I just shook his hand and said, "Hello Mr. Carlin. It's absolute honor to meet you." After a short 4 to 5 minute conversation, he ended with, "Don't ever lose your sense of humor." Words to live by. I have made it my life's goal to be Carlin's ghost and to carry that with me throughout my life in the hope of keeping his memory alive and to distribute his thoughts and ideas as I go along. He was the Master of words and language. RIP, Uncle George. You will always be the Greatest of all time. 😎👍

My dad took me to see George Carlin at a relatively rinky-dink venue, in my tiny state's capitol. I saw the "You're All Diseased" show (still my favorite one of Carlin's) from within the first few rows of the stage, at the age of sixteen or seventeen. He even delivered one quip while conspicuously leaning out and staring at *me.*
Naturally, I had a *blast.* But at the time I didn't even recognize the man from having been on Shining Time Station, much less as a legendary groundbreaking comedian. Only in later years (when I became more culturally aware) did I realize my *sheer good fortune.* I hadn't just had a night of entertainment highly sought after, even in the far more cosmopolitan places where Carlin normally had shows. During his gig that legend of comedy took clear note of my presence, and (if only in the tiniest way) made me part of his act.

I worked with George Carlin in the 1990s. He was a gentle man with a big heart. I'm gay. He couldn't have cared less. He loved everyone... except phonies and liars. (And, unlike Tim Allen who swore at everyone during our photo shoot, George didn't curse at anyone. He treated everyone with respect.) I miss him. Genius comic.

So, in 1998 or 1999 I saw him do his 1st show on this bit, which was a HBO Special, in Las Vegas at Bally’s. Had a trade show out there and as I looked for shows to see in advance, I called my Boss and he said “Let’s Do It, how much?” Tickets were $75. Our table was 2 row from the stage, and I must’ve made eye contact with him a dozen times. It was easy to see he was really checking the audience for feedback. It was a surreal experience, probably the equivalent of a dream you say “You’ll never believe this dream I had…”
I’d love to hear him do some shtick on pronouns & gender. Mercy.

I really like this comment. My take on common sense is that it was common sense a long time ago when there was still some critical thinking in the world. Example, there was a time when people didn't need to be told it was a bad idea to try and take a selfie while trying to teabag a great white shark or piss on an electric fence while doused in petrol. In the time we live in the uncommon sense is where you want to be because then at least you have any kind of remnant of sense as opposed to none at all

Remember Dolly the Sheep, the first genetically cloned living thing?
If I had anything to do with it, I would have ordered a 100 cloned copies of this genius of a comedian, as America needs a 100 George Carlins now. Yessir, I would have his likeness carved out of the mountainside too, and have his statue installed in every townhall of every city in this country. Too, I would make it compulsory for young school-going kids to watch all his comedy episodes as part of their required curriculum. They need to grow up acquiring a healthy rejection and dislike for the kind of things infesting this country, and against which George Carlin had campaigned so beautifully. Juvenile the Satirist from ancient Roman times would have taken his hat off for this great man himself.

I believe he was a "comedian" because this way he would reach more people and he could have the chance of "free speech" think about it. If he was labeled something else, he would have been restricted and held back from his ideologies and opinions. His "speeches/lectures" I'm calling it that. Come across a bit comedic because of his delivery but are 100% true.

Gonçalo Veiga I think Brand's trying to achieve too much, too soon, and he's a charlatan. If he hadn't have even met Kate Moss, he'd be a no one, let alone a living deity ''informing'' anyone about his plans for a ''Socialist Egalitarian Society''. Yeah, it all sounds good, but it'll never happen. He's not an anthropologist, and doesn't take into account the way ANY group of people eventually segregate. As far as his ''delivery'', he just sounds like a cockney chav. So it makes him more popular, not the opposite.

    • @HomerSlated
      @HomerSlated 9 років тому +4

Eric Crawford : Brand was married to Katy *Perry*, not Kate Moss, and nobody had ever even heard of Perry before 2007, whilst Brand has been a successful comedian since 2004, 6 years before he married Perry. The 2 years he was married were largely uneventful, and certainly didn't do anything magical for his career.
As for your sarcastic reference to "Socialist Egalitarian Society", maybe you could explain what's so fucking great about the dystopian _fascist_ society we currently have to endure, especially for the 80% of us who live in abject poverty?
