George Carlin - Little Moments

  • ....so in the midst of stirring up the shit myself a little bit from time to time, which I enjoy, I do like knowing I can always come back to those little things that make us all the same, little moments we share, universal moments, things that are so unimportant to us we hardly ever mention them to each other.
Did you ever look at your watch and then you don't know what time it is?
So you look again, and you still don't know the time.
And you look at a third time, and somebody says what time is it?
and you say I don't know!
Did you ever notice how sometimes all day Wednesday, you keep thinking it's Thursday?
And it happens over and over all day long.
And then the next day, you're all right again.....

part of his genius is that he never really had any jokes. He just made comedy out of everyday life/events, with near perfect delivery.

Yes, the most funny people don't try to be funny or try to make people laugh, they embody humor itself. It comes naturally.

    • @gothcat54

Exactly! He was the absolute king of what is still referred to as "observational humor." He would look at everyday events, occurrences, situations, etc., and merely point out to us in his ingenious fashion how absurd and ridiculous these things were, or at the very least-could be. R.I.P., Mr. Carlin-you are sorely missed!

😆😆! Maybe that's George's strategy all along: die, & when he comes back to do another show in N.Y.C., charge two or three times as much for tickets. Sounds exactly like something he'd do, right before surprising everyone again, the moment they come to pay for their tickets: "Gotcha! Actually my price for admission is the same. You didn't *reeely* think I'd charge hard working people $100 each, did ya?!"

With how fucking childish society has become and petty. people are so fucking offended at any and everything you say the worlds a fucking mess today. The sad part is it has a lot to do with how most people today think the fucking world owes them something its sad. Fucking people fight whenever they think something is being taken away from them its a fucking mess. Like this whole coronavirus bullshit and the riots. I grew up watching George Carlin he's the greatest standup comedian of all time. I bought all his records, saw all his shows and a school classmate of mine and I did dueling Carlins in class. Dueling Carlins was us taking turns repeating a Carlin routine in his voice without messing up, that was in 1971-1973 and I'll never forget it.

A true genius of the human condition, society, and a master of language. A philosopher with perfect comedic timing, who broke things down to show the idiocy and madness behind the workings of politics, consumerism, capitalism, propaganda, greed, corruption and the mob mentality that has slowly decayed this country since it's founding. Entropy. He saw where it was all going long before it happened. I think he had a deep understanding of humans and society that comes around once in a century if people are lucky. He was a prophet for lack of a better term. That's why I think no matter when you watch it, it's all still true in every way. His observations were always DEAD ON. The only person I can think of comparable to Carlin is Mark Twain. And Carlin was even better in many ways. I doubt we will see anyone like him again in our lifetimes.

He had an incredible way with words, but the way he used his body and face to generate laughter was amazing. If you're just listening to the audio of his concerts, it's funny enough. But to see him perform had you falling all over yourself. You know how a natural phenomenon like an earthquake or tornado can cause fear, awe, humility, or a recognition of your own humanity and mortality? Well, George was a natural phenomenon that caused relatability and laughter.

I am taking the opportunity here to say "Chapeau" to the late George Carlin.
A dazzling and insightful fellow who knew how to convey, while putting his ideas forth and make you laugh in the process. Mr. Carlin zealously delivered his controversial and spirited presentations without looking at notes which demonstrated a remarkable knowledge of history, cultures, and capability to memorize an enormous amount of information, facts, and stories old and recent. George Carlin was simply "one of a kind" Thanks to the Internet; we can today appreciate and value his work as he brightens up the globe with laughter. George; the world misses you and will never be the same without you!
