Put some adhesive spray into a syringe, insert the syringe through the headlining and give a good spray and let the glue dry slightly before pressing headlining together

Again, the advantage of using a test light over a voltmeter! A testlight draws current causing a voltage drop, if you'd have connected a voltmeter and then a test light you'd have seen the voltage collapse and the testlight would stay out. If it can't light a testlight it certainly can't run a pump motor. Lastly, if you hadn't connected a test light you'd have (and did) see 12 volts. It's a slam dunk!

Awesome series! Loving how honest it is, even when you make mistakes. I would definitely recommend treating the car with an ozon-generator. It will not only kill every living organism in it, but will also neutralise smells. Had a car with leaky doors that eventually resulted in a rather unpleasant smell even after fixing the water leak and wet-vacuuming it, but 1 hour with an ozon-generator in it and the smell was sort of reset to nothing and it has been fine ever since.

    • @FenderTele
      @FenderTele Рік тому +3

Wow £60 for a relay!!!!!!!!!! I can remember getting them for the change in my pocket at one of those garages that are nearly now extinct! They had parts going back to the 60s. The place had been a fiat dealership during the 60s and 70s and it was a sight to behold genuine fiat parts. They had wings and doors rust free, covered in dust, for the likes of the original fiat 500,124,126 and 128.

I owned a Green 97 R reg Mondeo Ghia X which was the best car i've ever had. It was owned by a mate of mine who was leaving the UK to go live in Malta, so he sold it me for £3k in 2001 which was an absolute steal as he'd paid £30k for it and only had it 4 years and done 18k miles. The car had everything on it like CD multichanger, leather heated seats, traction control, heated front windscreen, and even a private number plate. It was a car I could drive and drive and drive, and not get bored of it. It was rock solid, never had a problem, and I still regret getting rid of it to this day.

I have been cleaning carpets and upholstery for many years now, it's what i do as a business, For better results dilute some of the upholstery solution in a spray bottle, spray the fabric then agitate it in with either a hand brush or a drill brush, then use the bissel with only clean water in to extract it out making sure you don't over wet it or you could possibly be fighting damp and mold issues. doing it this way also means your extracting the solution out leaving no residue,
Loving the progress on the mondy, i had one many years ago although it was the V6 one but still had some great times in that car...👍

Sympathise with the headlining, with age the thin sponge and glue degrades and becomes dry and turns to dust, any disruption will with cause finger “dents” where the sponge disintegrates or the fabric comes away and sags. I have several Cherokee XJ’s and they have all suffered. The only solution is new headlining fabric (once all the old glue and detritus has been removed from the fibre board. Love the series, Happy Christmas, kindest Steve!

Your right about the MK2 becoming a classic, apart from my own I have not seen another on the road in a very long time now. And 3 or 4 times over the last year people have commented such when i have been at petrol stations etc. Have had my one for 16 years now, never meant to keep it so long, but over the last few years when all the rest have disappeared I have made it my mission to keep her going. The fabric on the door cards of the 90s is a nice change to the plastic or leather you get on there these days. That Mondeo has aged surprisingly well. The startup sound reminds me of the mark 1 focus I owned. On the button and quite a fast idle at first. Nearly everybody will have an experience of some kind of travelling in a Mondeo or owned one. So it's good to see it restored.

Good to see you have revived this car, and done a great job and doing so!
However, I don't know who told you the immobiliser is that blanking panel. It's not. It's around the key barrel. When you put the key into the ignition barrel, that's when it recognises it. The immobiliser will kill the starter, fuel, and spark. This is why, if the alarm goes off on many cars (well, Fords and BMWs), firing the ignition key will normally kill it, as the immobiliser will see a signal.
If you don't believe me, get a key cut but not coded (i.e leave the immobiliser chip dead), and try starting the car. It won't do a thing. You can guess how I found out! Well, a chip went walkies from a key of mine long before I owned the car (mk1 Focus), and I had to do chip switching between two keys I had on a 1998 Ford Ka (same vintage as your Mondeo).
Coincidentally, I remember this happening to an AM V8 Vantage owner about 10 years ago when he was a little annoyed about a car meet going on, but in the process, he inadvertently broke his key and lost the chip inside. Low, and behold, his car would not start. Not turn over, or anything until the spare key turned up
Older/aftermarket immobilisers admittedly do need the doors locking mind you, and opening, as that will provide a 'window' (normally 30 seconds) in which to start the car. W124 Mercs with the Scorpian alarm worked this way, since Scorpian dealer fitted these alarms, as they did for Fiat, BMW and a few others back in the day :).

That is really weird but the outcome is so positive you must be overjoyed! Relays are funny things, had front wiper motor parking issues on my mk1 focus so I swapped the front wiper relay for the back one (thinking it'll make the rear play up the same way) and it did'nt, both worked fine and its been that way since! Crazy. Matt I'm afraid anyone who has dealt with headlinings will say it needs replacing, you simply can't just glue it back on, once the foam backing between the board and material lets go... its a bin and new headlining job! I've been watchung since almost 3 years now and I'm loving the episodes as always :)

Honestly you could have done a 3 hour video of cleaning the seats and I would have watched it - it's one of the most satisfying things ever. That's a huge downside of leather seats - they're not as easy to clean like good old velour. They look brand new when cleaned. Great video Matt!

I like the modern faux leather aka vinyl. Needs only a damp cloth to clean.

Superb Matt. Fascinating to see this Mondeo's journey, having owned two mk 2's myself, a 1.8(verona) similar this, followed by an R reg 2.5Si. She was a beast 🙂Thank you for such interesting viewing.

In a true soap opera style, the twist with the relay surprised us all. I'm still waiting, though, for the evil twin brother to show up and state that he's the father!

I'm sure I read in the manual for my 1980s Jag that you should clean the headliner with neat alcohol, which kills the germs and lifts stains without wetting

Would you think about removing the seats and cleaning all the carpets? It should be a lot easier than the Volvo's headlining. A little Christmas project. At least it's much warmer now. ;)

I've had to deal with Ford relay issues a few times. My dad had an N-reg Mk1 Mondeo that kept flattening the battery, it turned out the relay for the radiator fan had blackened and pitted contacts inside that were sticking together, leaving the fan running all the time.
On my Mk1 Focus, the windscreen wipers wouldn't park automatically on the one-shot wipe or on the normal and fast settings, but worked fine on the intermittent setting and when washing the screen. So I swapped the wiper control relay with the one for the rear wiper - and now it works perfectly both front and rear.

Great job, Matt! That vacuum is amazing! Very worth its money if you have that many cars and are slightly disgusted by old bum stains 😅😂
I hope you will succeed with the headliner, might be better to do that inside your home because glue works a lot better at room temperature.

Better than Wheeler Dealers - the tension mounts as we wonder whether the Mondeo will be sold at the end. Keep up the suspense!

I love the fact I found your first Mondeo video earlier this evening, subscribed halfway though the first video and now already caught up. Such a bonus to get another video *this evening*! Brings back so many memories of my Dad having the V6 version Ford did of this car so Mondeos of this era have a wee special place in my heart. Love the content/style of the videos. Thanks!

I fixed my headliner with a syringe on a trim adhesive aerosol can. Worked perfectly and has lasted 5 years. However some areas need to be glued twice or even 3 times. In my case brake cleaner cleaned up glue stains in the fabric.

ASAP will sort that out. brilliant cars really reliable, can't wait for the headlining as we keep putting that off and if anyone can enlighten me on how easy it is to fix vacumn switch for heater Enjoying the series, don't want to cause you problems but I would keep it,hide it in the barn

If not commented already, always put the bad part back in to see if the fault returns, granted if the suspect part is intermittent it can confuse matters but always worth a shot.

Super as always Matt! I may well have a selection of relays that I grabbed from the scrapyard over the years. All will be Ford parts as well 🙂. I'm pretty sure it's exactly the same colour as my last Mondeo which is "State Blue"......I had trouble getting hold of the paint so grab it if you see it! Hycote was the best.....but use sparingly! Merry Christmas fellow Mondeo fans!

I was screaming at the screen when I was watching you that headlining. Lightly spray with APC and wipe with a microfibre. Any detailer will tell you that, especially on older cars.
